Note: Unless you're an enchanter with the benefit of faction spells and illusions, this quest may be a bit time consuming.

Clurg, the Ogre bartender in Ogguk, has lost his bartender's compendium and wants it back badly. It is currently held by Bartender Gregor, in the Seafarer's Roost in East Freeport. Fortunately, Gregor has a lust for exotic drinks, and lacks only the ingredients to make his dream concoctions. He will give you the compendium for those ingredients.

You say, 'Hail, Gregor Nasin'

Gregor Nasin says, 'Sit down and name your poison! I know we are lacking in originality, but I intend to create some [exotic drinks].'

You say, 'What exotic drinks?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'Interested in exotic drinks, are we? I am attempting to create some of these drinks I read about in this book I found. It was called the [Barkeep's Compendium]. I will first need to get my hands on a few [exotic ingredients].'

You say, 'What Barkeep's Compendium?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I found the book amongst some garbage littering the ground in Freeport East. It appears to have been created by an ogre named [Clurg]. I am sure he wants it returned, but I will never part with it. That is... unless I get a few [exotic ingredients] I need to experiment with.'

You say, 'Who is Clurg?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I do not know. Ask an ogre. Maybe they have heard of him.'

You say, 'What exotic ingredients?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I desire a [kiola nut], [Erud's Tonic], [honey jum] and a [Koalindl fish]. If I could get those, I would no longer need to hold on to the [Barkeep's Compendium]. Whoever returned the ingredients to me could have it!'

Gregor wants you to get him the following items:

- Kiola Nut (purchased on the island of Erollisi in the Ocean of Tears for 2 gold pieces)

- Erud's Tonic (NO TRADE item that results from a quick quest; see the link to the left)

- Honey Jum from Rivervale (droppable item that results from the Honey Jum quest; see the link to the left)

- Koalindl Fish from the lake in the Temple of Life in Qeynos (NO TRADE item). You can get this fish one of a few ways: You can do the Regurgatonic quest in Ak'Anon and give the tonic to Frostbite the dog in West Karana (who coughs up a fish). You can also kill Frostbite (at the expense of your Halas faction). Or you can kill koalindl fish below the Temple of Life in Qeynos (major faction hits with the Priests of Life).

Give these items to Bartender Gregor in East Freeport. It's suggested you do the turn-ins one at a time to prevent it from getting bugged. You'll receive some platinum and the Bartender's Compendium (NO TRADE).

Hand in all four ingredients -- the nut, the NO-TRADE version of the tonic, the honey jum, and the fish.

Gregor Nasin says, 'Now I have every ingredient mentioned in the Barkeep Compendium. Here. You take it. <..click!..> Whoops! I just closed it. It's magically sealed. I never closed it before. It's useless to you. I have no need for it any longer. Maybe you can return it to [Clurg] for some type of reward.'

Take the Compendium to Clurg. If you're KOS in Oggok, you'll need to do faction work beforehand. Ogre or Dark Elf illusions coupled with a faction spell will also work, provided your faction isn't too low.

Upon doing the turn-in, Clurg gives you the Stein of Moggok.

[Thu Feb 11 16:01:35 2016] Clurg says 'Ahhh! My Barkeep Compendium has been returned! I am in your debt. I do not like to be in any man's debt. Let me offer you this as payment for your great service. Obtaining my book could not have been a simple task.'

Running Through the Quest...

You say, 'Hail, Clurg'

Clurg says 'Hello, friend. Have a drink. I have some [unique drinks]. Try one. And remember. You get rowdy, the [Bouncers] crush you.'

You say, 'What unique drinks?'

Clurg says 'I have been all over Norrath and even served with some very great [barkeeps in Freeport]. I am the creator of both [Flaming Clurg] and Ogre Swill.'

You say, 'What barkeeps in Freeport?'

Clurg says 'Yes. I have journeyed to many taverns, but it was in Freeport that I acquired most of my art. I compiled all my drink recipes in a [special book].'

You say, 'What Flaming Clurg?'

Clurg says 'The Flaming Clurg was my greatest creation. It brought me great respect in Oggok. Unfortunately, I have heard tales of an [imposter drink].'

He won't say any more unless your faction is high enough.

You say, 'What special book?'

Clurg says 'Find ways to help all in Oggok. Then we will have conversation.'

You say, 'What imposter drink?'

Clurg says 'Find ways to help all in Oggok. Then we will have conversation.'

On Ragefire Alliance works on this guy even though he is a merchant. As a lvl 18 human enchanter that IS NOT agnostic I had no problem doing this. Used illusion ogre and alliance to get amiable with him.

+50 to all factions, -50 to Kazon Stormhammer.

For faction junkies, this quest is pretty easy. The only "hard" part is getting the Honey Jum ingredients to turn in. Kiola nut is easiest. Erud's Tonic is simple unless someone was dumb enough to kill erudites to be enemies with the rare citizens of Erudin faction. Koalindl takes time, unless brash enough to just kill the poor dog/fish for it.

Many posts below complaining about the (now old) nerfs to enchanter's alliance spells.

Sometimes you can find a non-quest npc in the same zone to cast alliance on that shares the faction you need boosted.

So unless they nerfed that as well...

This quest still works as of 02/16/2010

Completed with Gnome Enchanter, agnostic. Using the method below by Rhynn Bowdreamer. I turned in about 100 lizard tails to Horgus and 40 meats to Kogna. I also turned in about 30-40 lizard tails to Grevak. Clurg finally responded to the phrase "What Special Book?" by telling me about the compendium.

He would not respond the the phrase after amiable faction with the warrior guild after turning in the tails to them alone. He finally responded afte turning in the tails to Grevak. Both Shadowknight and Warrior guilds were amiable to my chanter when Clurg responded about the compendium.

Collecting the items for the quest itself worked without any probelms. The only issue is how the alliance spell has been nerfed.

What is a Gnome Enchanter to do about Clurg faction?

I put on my Dark Elf illusion and tried to hand 3 pickled froglok and money to Chef Dooga, but she gave them back. When hailed, she gave no mention of wanting pickled froloks but talked about delivering something and HEHE meat.

Help.

Without Alliance
# Apr 17 2008 at 1:17 AM Rating: Decent
Wow, I too was bummed to find the Alliance spell completely nerfed like this! I did all the componants, got the book and handed it to Clurg... and he hands it back to me. Wha??

So, I being an Erudite Enchanter, worked on my Clurg faction the hard way. The only quest I could do initially (because of indifferent faction) was Exterminate the Vermin. The husks are rare drops, so you just have to wail on every armadillo you can find in Oggok.

After a bunch of turn-in's (6-10 times?) my faction was good enough to do Lizard Tails with Horgus. After a dozen turn-in's on tails, you should be able to do the Lizard Meat quest with Kogna as well.

I kept trying to turn in book every so often, and I must have turned in 2 dozen sets of meats, and the same for tails. (Craknak Warrios were kind to me) So, wondering if I needed Green Blood Knights faction too, I turned in the tails with Grevak for the Lizard Tails 2 quest.

BTW, I found the Lizard camp in Rathe Mountains at loc #22 on eqatlas map (approx. 0,-700) to be a fast source of tails, meats & mystic dolls!

Most have turned in a dozen of Tails to Grevak, and finally apporached Clurg with the 'What special book?" phrase (which was previously being admonished to seek other ways to help Oggok).. Yeah, he finally told me about the book! So, I handed him the dusty old book I've had for a week and I have my new Stein of Moggok! :)

So it is possible, and I'm sure I might have some small problem with dwarves in Kaladim for being such buds with the Craknek Warriors & Green Bloods. However, who is the quest now meant for???? Not the enchanter fun quest it used to be...
Who does Regurgatonic?
# Jul 20 2006 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
What person in his right mind does the regurgatonic sub-quest to get the Koalindl fish? Doing that is, well, sub-optimal. Simply park your chanter (or other fish-wanting character) at poolside in north Qeynos. Camp. Make a human noobie that starts in Qeynos. My favorite is an agnostic monk. Avoid druids and rangers, they start in Surefall, not Qeynos. You can use a half-elf as long as it's a class that starts in Qeynos. Make sure you don't go into the tutorial or this will take a LOT longer. The tutorial is great if you're starting a real character, but for disposables it's a PITA. Train your main weapon skill and get your noob chest armor. Go to the Temple of Life, where your main is parked, remember?

Now, kill the koalindl fish. They're only level 1. Yes, your noob will take nasty faction hits. Yes, your noob might die a couple times doing this. Who cares? Your noob is a disposable toon. Keep killing the fishes until you find the drop. LEAVE IT ON THE CORPSE!

Now camp and re-log your main. Wait a minute or so until the corpse unlocks and loot the fish. Tada! No nasty faction hit and no running to Surefall or Ak'Anon or West Karana.

You can keep your fish mule as long as you like, or delete him every time you don't need him anymore. The only difference really is that once he's KOS the fish will attack him, making it easier to gain aggro. But if he dies, he's unlikely to make it back to the temple alive, since he's KOS. Once that happens, delete him and start over.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Alliance doesn't work anymore. You'll need to do some factioning in Oggok prior to turning in the book. Click on the "Clurg" faction link on the left of the quest for info on that.

"Note. You really need to be an enchanter to do this quest. It is not impossible for other classes to do it, but it is impractical"

I'll assume that the above not was written by an enchanter who assumed that only they had the required range of skills. Monks and rogues can possibly do this quest as noted in other comments, but they do lack the Alliance spell.

However, bards can use:
Sneak - level 17
Cinda's Charismatic Carillon (Alliance) - level 13
Shauri's Sonorous Clouding (Invis) - level 19
Mask of Deception (Illusion Dark Elf) - drop from level 35 mob

Without the mask, the quest is dangerous and may result in a few deaths. With the mask, the quest is a piece of cake.

Kimble's Disappearance
# Apr 14 2004 at 3:05 AM Rating: Good
I did this quest a few days ago on Venril, but when I came to give Kimble the Flask of Nitrates I initially couldn't find him. I eventually did find him hiding in the big metal boiler thing at the end of his corridor. The only way I could hand him the nitrates was to /target kimble with the targeting ring turned on in options, I could then just about see the targeting ring under the boiler and hand Kimble the flask.

Hope this helps anyone else who might be baffled at Kimble's disappearance.

Thank you for posting that Mubaris. I just went yesterday to restock my Moggok components and couldn't find Kimble. I already had the Koalindl fish so didn't need the 'tonic right then, so shrugged and went on about my business. Today he still wasn't there, and before I went to find a tracker to see if he now spawns somewhere else in the zone, I read your post. Lo and behold, Kimble is hiding in the boiler on Tholuxe Paells too. F8 won't work, only /tar command like you say, and I only found one tiny area of the targeting ring that would bring up the trade window. Very annoying, I submitted a bug.

first off to the post below, and all the other folks asking, if frostbite refuses the regurge, its gone bad get a new one. you should be level 12 to do this (generally, since most illusions are available by then), you should nearly have identify, which helps to discern the correct regurgitonic (from what somebody below posted). its much easier to make an alt to kill fish in qeynos, what you do is time it so you kill the fish when it just turns around, so youre fighting in the middle away from trouble, eventually the fish will just come up to you and start attacking, you will become KOS very quickly, in less than 10 stein runs im basically kos, when you get a fish (dont forget to loot to make sure it dropped corpse), run to the ramp and camp there, i never see npcs wander by there. then log in and loot the fish.

as far as factions go, it took about 12 stein runs to get dubious in oggok (erudite enchanter worshiping quellious) and KINDLY to clurg. im also indifferent to the freeport turn in npc by now, so most of the quest i dont have to use illusions or alliance. i only have to alliance the halfling in rivervale to get jum, but with some RV questing i should fix that easily as well.
Quest Changed?
# Oct 23 2003 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
Has the quest changed? I tried to give the regurgitronic to Frostbite and he just gives it back saying I can't use this. I have done this quest many times and now he won't take it. What happened??
RE: Quest Changed?
# Nov 02 2003 at 12:26 AM Rating: Decent
RE: Quest Changed?

I also had this problem about a week ago. I logged in again today and tried to give it to him again: no sucess. ArcaneRide gave a good suggestion, and I'll go give it a try.

Update:
The suggestion from ArcaneRide works. I may start the habit of casting identify before I run to the Barbarians in West Karana. I wonder if the bad regurgitonic has a use.

Update 2:
I used identify after the Gnome handed me the regurgitonic. It was BAD! I handed the stuff back think he might give me a refund or something, but he said he has no use for it and gave it back. Maybe having no use for it is why he gave it to me in the first place, Smiley: grin

Create a mule in Qeynos after you have camped the character actually doing the quest by the pool then use the mule to kill the koalindl fish (sk with HT up is excellent choice for this). Camp the mule, relog your main and collect the dead koalindl from the pool. You don't die, you lose no xp, get no negative faction hits!

Can you still do this quest following the Illusion changes of last week ?

Yes, the patch only changed the factions for non-player character forms. Since this quest requires player-character illusions, it works fine.
Recharge it?

Important Safety Tip
# Apr 07 2003 at 12:47 AM Rating: Good
Okay, not so much a safety tip as a "Damn, now I have to do that all again" prevention tip.

I made level 12 tonight and decided to run the quest.

Made a trip to OOT and bought a dozen or so Kiola Nuts (Yes, I plan on doing this one several times)
They were just over 1 gold each, and there was no price difference between Indifferent and Amiable faction. Illusion: Wood Elf

The Eruds Tonic was easiest of all of 'em. No negative faction hits, and a positive for EruditeCitizens or some such.
less than a gold for the Kiss of Death. No Illusion, as I am an Erudite.

HoneyComb was probably the most annoying, since I couldn't find a bixie with one to save my life. I was using my ranger to track 'em. Finally managed to get enough, though. Also found what may be a bixie spawn point in E Commons and got lucky buying 6 off the vendor nearby. About a gold each.
Illusion: Halfling and an Alliance (which probably wasn't needed)

The Fish: Chose the No Negative Faction method. Lotta running, but what the hell.
A time saver for other who will be doing this repeatedly- After you get teh Regurgitonic and head back for W Karana, swing by Surefall on your way and get a new Nitrate. One less run next time.
No cost. Illusion: Gnome for Regurgitonic and Illusion: Human with an Alliance for the Nitrates and Frostbite.

Handed them all in to the SeaFarer's Roost (Illusion: Human + Alliance. Probably necessary, but didn't feel like testing to find out)

Headed off to Ogguk. Illusion: Dark Elf works fine to get in. The Bartender is way the hell in the back of the zone. Don't forget to reapply Illuson if you aren't really a Dark Elf
Here's that Tip I mentioned....
Alliance only works on one NPC at a time (I tested after the fact)
First time out, I allianced him, then the bouncer...and didn't recheck him. He ate my book.

Second time, I just Allianced him...no problem, and my faction at turn in was Indifferent.

I think I can probably do the whole thing in under 30 minutes at this point...assuming I have the Honeycomb and Kiola Nut to start out with.

Total cost (even buying the honeycomb from Vendors): around 4 plat.

Have fun, enjoy all the healthy running!

Alliance works on FACTIONS not indiviuals and not whole zones. Guards and merchants are generally on different factions.

Yup, the Alliance line changes your standing with a faction temporarily. I don't think you can have Alliance up on two different factions. From what was related above, probably the second cast overwrites the first one.

But yes, it's zone-wide, until you zone. That's in the nature of how it works. It's on you, not them. Any other approach would be messy to implement, and this way is so simple. It just ups your faction for awhile.

Clurg has his own faction, named "Clurg" faction for some reason. :) I believe Clurg is initially indifferent to all except maybe iksar. An iksar who managed to finish this quest somehow would be damn impressive and need a life.

The bouncer is on another faction...I forget. Crakneks probably.

I would think an iksar monk, with a gnomish vanishing device, would have very little trouble doing this.

A monk can sneak behind an NPC, and if they are still indifferent at that point, open a trade window. Once the window is open, FD ensures that they don't notice you're there, and start disliking you.

So, if indifferent is really good enough faction, an iksar could easily do this, as long as they were a monk.

The vanishing device is to make getign through the zone easier, it would be Possible, with just FD/sneak, but a lot slower.

"...and if they are still indifferent at that point..."

Sneak always make you indifferent assuming you're behind the mob. Just a quick note.
