You must do the Investigator's Badge Quest before doing this one. Before you go on with this one, be sure to get an extra unsigned confession off 'an investigator'.

You say, 'Hail, Vegalys Keldrane'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Greetings to you, citizen. By order of the Council of Qeynos I have been given the duty of apprehending the individuals [responsible] for unleashing this terrible plague upon the people and the lands of Antonius Bayle. The more I look into this matter, the more I come to find that this will be no easy task.

You say, 'How can I advance further?'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Interested in advancing further are you? Excellent, we are ready to begin the next phase of our operation. We have gathered a great deal of information as a result of the latest series of arrests. What we require most now are [interrogators] that are able to pry the information we require out those less then willing to talk.

You say, 'What interrogators?'

Vegalys Keldrane says 'If you are interested in joining the ranks of our interrogators and helping Qeynos further as we bring these fiends and murderers to justice, turn in your investigator's Badge and I will give you the briefing document you need. I already know I can trust my investigator's, so there is no need to further test you.

Vegalys Keldrane says 'Very well, here is the briefing document. Please read it very carefully. I wish you luck friend, this mission could prove to be dangerous.

The document leads you to an interrogator in South Karana.

You say, 'Hail, an interrogator'

an interrogator says 'I see you wish to become an interrogator. This is not a duty for the weak of heart you know. This job sometimes requires. .. an interrogator coughs, 'a little muscle I guess you would say.'

an interrogator says 'Nevertheless, we have an important job to do. There is a man by the name of Theodore Exanthem who is a known member of the Bloodsaber cult. He fled from Qeynos some time ago and we have been hot on his tail ever since.

an interrogator says 'We have tracked this man down and we now know his whereabouts. However, we have bigger fish to fry today then just this low life. Theodore knows the location of two other individuals also suspected of hiding out here in the plains.

an interrogator says 'Sadly, these fiends were the two that slipped into Surefall Glade and poisoned the waters there. Though the druids were able to quickly combine their efforts and neutralize the toxins with their magicks, grievous damage was done none the less. Two of the great protectors of the hills and the glade, Holly Windstalker and Cros Treewind, became seriously ill as did one of the glade's sacred bears.

an interrogator says 'Holly and Cros, sickened as they were, removed themselves from the Hills to weather out their illness and to keep the disease from spreading further. During their absence, the Bloodsabers were easily able to traffic in the materials needed to complete their terrible work.

an interrogator shakes his head sadly and says, 'Tragically, Cros Treewind was attacked by one of the sacred bears which was maddened by its illness. In his weakened state Cros was unable to defend himself and was killed by this defiled grizzly, one of the very creatures he was sworn to protect.'

an interrogator says 'So our goal is to pry the information we need from Theodore Exanthem so that we may bring these two fugitives to justice. After getting him to comply, you are to collect a confession from Theodore and have him lead us to the two fugitives. Give me Theodore's confession and the heads of these two fugitives and you shall have your badge.

an interrogator says 'I believe I know where we can find him. Follow me please.'

Follow the interrogator.

an interrogator says 'Theodore Exanthem by order of the Council of Qeynos and his lordship Antonius Bayle, I order you to come out of there immediately!

an interrogator says 'Theodore Exanthem, you will [take us to the location] of Marcus Cachexia and Morley Murrain immediately.

Theodore Exanthem says 'I think you've been breathing the air in the Northern Plains of Karana for too long. I will most certainly not tell you anything about their whereabouts, much less lead you right to them. You are not right in the head.

an interrogator says 'Vile beast! You are withholding information on two men guilty of terrible atrocities, not the least of which was causing the death of one of Qeynos' most respected and well known citizens, Cros Treewind! As an Interrogator I am authorized to use physical force if necessary.

Theodore Exanthem says 'What a joke! I'm not telling you a thing. You don't look like you could scare a moss snake. I'm not afraid of you!

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem reels back, his eyes wide with shock. Ow, he says nervously.

an interrogator says '[Take us to the location] of Markus Cachexia and Morley Murrain!

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem winces and says, Oh. Yeah right. Like I'm afraid of that moron or something. Theodore glances nervously over at you.

an interrogator says 'Take us to Markus Chachexia and Morley Murrain this instant or I'll turn you over to my friend here who appears to be much stronger then I am!

an interrogator smiles and says, 'Well, I'm getting tired. Why don't you hit him for a while. Maybe you will be more convincing then I have been.'

Attack him one time without a weapon. After a short time, he'll respond.

Theodore Exanthem says 'Sweet father of rot, alright already! Stop hitting me and tell me what you want me to do!

Give him the unsigned confession document you got from the investigator. (This step may no longer be valid, I was unable to get a confession document from an interrogator but received a signed document once arriving at the abandoned druid ring)

an interrogator says '[Take us to the location] of Markus Cachexia and Morley Murrain!'

You say, 'Take us to the location'

Theodore Exanthem says 'Fine follow me creeps.

At this point you follow Theodore Exanthem to the south to the abandoned druid ring. The culprits spawn along with some skeletal servants and ghouls. They are Morley Murrain and Markus Chachexia.

Theodore Exanthem says 'There... They are hiding out just down the hill here... Now release me!'

An interrogator says 'Not so fast. If you want your freedom back, sign this confession immediately.'

Theodore Exanthem makes a big X at the bottom of the document and hands it back saying, 'A bunch of worthless thugs is all you folks are!' (Note a signed confession appeared on my cursor)

An interrogator says 'You are on your own for now, Elina. You know what to do -- return to me when the deed is done.

Markus Cachexia says 'Undead legions assist me!'

Bring back their heads along with the signed confession to an interrogator at the tree where you first found him. (Note about a 12 minute spawn)

an interrogator says 'Excellent work, you did just fine today. You'll make a fine interrogator. Talk to Vegalys about advancing further.

You receive your Interrogator's Badge.

I did this quest but in my impatience started hitting Theodore before the investigator had spoken for ages and become tired. I hit him a few times with my weapon and kept stopping and saying "show us the location" when he got to about 75% health he started to run so I chased him, continuing to hit him and menace him (my weapon was only doing damage in the 20s) eventually he said the "Theodore Exanthem reels back, his eyes wide with shock. Ow, he says nervously. " as he ran and then when he got to about 24% health he suddenly vanished. I wandered back to the interogator where he was stood again, not saying anything. I tried to give him the confession but he wouldn't take it, so I stood for a bit hoping they would start up the conversation again, but they didn't, I really thought I'd screwed up, however in dispair I decided to hit him one last time. This time however he reacted properly bu dying and respawning instantly and the mission was back on track. It could be that this is a way of avoiding the 10minute conversation.

Anyone tried this?

I'd like to do this quest for my level 40 monk and don't think he is quite good enough to handle the battle himself. I'm wondering if I can have him start the quest, get to the part where he gets the signed confession, then log, switch to a higher level character, kill the guys, and log back monk to loot heads and turn it all in...

Anyone know whether this will work? Honestly the only problems I can see are - logging the character that starts the quest might end dialogue and stop the sequence, and whether the interrogator stays spawned long enough for the extra time I'll need to switch back and wait for the corpses to open up so monk can loot.

Just curious.. I guess it wouldn't be that big of a deal to do #1 again if it didn't work, but thought someone might have tried this already.

Just did this tonight, agreed on the slowness. I just wanted to post and update on the HP of the 2 sks at the druid rings. They have less than 1120 each, because 1 Ice Comet was enough to waste 'em each easily. The undead that spawn with them have less than 495 hp each because 1 jyll's static pulse took them out.

Good luck to you with this fun quest. = )

I completed this quest on 11/25/02 and found that for the most part, everything above is true.

A couple things to keep in mind when doing this:

1. Plan for at least 20-30 min. to complete the quest. Not that it is Hard just SLOW... There is a 1 1/2 - 2 min pause between each phrase that everyone speaks. Very Boring to have to wait through.

2. IMPORTANT !!! You only have to hit Theodore ONCE !!! You'll get a message saying you killed him and he immediately re-spawns. DO NOT keep attacking him. Just wait 1 1/2 - 2 Minutes and he'll say the phrase about "Sweet father of rot..."

3. Remember to get an EXTRA unsigned confession document from the Inspector in the first quest. Do this before handing in the other documents and head to get the Inspectors badge. You will need a document to give to Theodore. Give it to him after he says "Sweet father of rot..."

Then just follow the rest of the directions. Took me 3 times to do this correctly before I figured it out.

Hope this helps some of you...

1. Yeah! I know, i found out the hard way :)

2. This was the bottleneck in my attempt yesterday. I killed the respawn too :(

3. That i did do, it's also on the last page of the book you are handed :)

Going to do the quest again tonight.

Thanks again.

Myself and a Bard Friend came to lovingly call this quest, "The Neverending Story". :)

They're not kiddin, my friends. The dialogue between You and the Interrogator, and the Interrogator and Theodore takes for-ev-er. :)

Even when you first hand him the book, you won't get a reply for at least 45 seconds. Don't worry, he didn't eat your book, he's just a bit slow. :)

Quest Completed
# Nov 23 2002 at 6:49 PM Rating: Good
I completed this quest today (11/23/02) and it did work just as the text above shows, if somewhat weird.

When I first found the interrogator (far east wall in SK just north of the abandonded druid ring) He would not respond to Hail's. I gave him my book and he still didn't respond... imediately. He was very slow in saying things, between each paragraph of text he would just stand there for up to 1.5 mins, this continued up untill theodore led us over to the abandonded druid ring to kill Markus and Morely.

Other than being slow the quest went EXACTLY as it is shown above, just took about 15 mins. As for hitting theodore, when the investigator said to I took my weapons out of my hands and hit him with my fists 1 time, when an actuall hit landed the text read I killed him but he respawned as the version you give the confession doc to.

Again it went exactly as shown above. Here is something I found interesting, several skells and ghouls (mini spectres) spawned at the ruins but not all at once. I ran ahead of theodore and pulled Markus and Morley away from the ruins and rooted them apart from one another. I then killed the 2 undead that came with them. And proceeded to work my way back to the druid ring 1 mob at a time untill I had both heads. When I got back to the ring several more undead had spawned apparently later than the rest, which I then moped up. The investigator was standing on the hill just above the druid ring, handed in my stuff and got my interrogators badge.

BTW i'm a lvl 40 Human Ranger and I did it solo, things went badly untill I decided to pull Markus and Morley out of the druid ring and separated them. After that I did the rest of the mobs with 1/2 life and had no problems

This is so messed up...

I also tried to complete this for the second time yesterday. the first time theodore fought until he said, "fine, follow me creeps" but never the "Sweet..." line that signals when you give him the confession. the mobs sprung at the rings and i looted the two heads, but had no confession. the second time i tried it theodore died after one punch, respawned, then fought to the death without saying anything. PLEASE any help from someone who has done this????

After the Interrogator says something like "Why don't you hit him for awhile.", punch him once, and once only.

He will die, and respawn.

Then you just need to take a seat, and wait for two minutes before he actually replies with the "sweet father of rot!".

How long do you have to hit Theodore Exanthem for?
When I hit him he depopped and repopped and i handed him the document and he said something like he wouldnt sign it so i hit him again? I ended up killing him again and he didnt repop
Should you just wait and not hit him anymore?
Can some one who has done this please describe exactly what needs to be done

I read through the quest above quite carefully and also the posts below the quest description. I read "get the unsigned confession document from the investigator before going to SK".

In my folly I beleived that SK in this case was short for "Shadow Knights" not South Karana. After I had given the Interrogator the book from Vegalys Keldrane, he started talking and I started asking for the document but never got it. Then I read the quest description above and cursed... "Get the document from the INVESTIGATOR" it says... NOT the INTERROGATOR. There are no investigators in South Karana...

So if you attempt to do this quest, go to South Qeynos even BEFORE you start the quest and get a confession document from the same Investigator you played with in the first badge quest. Me being a Druid I could quickly port to Surefall, run to South Qeynos, get a confession document, port to North Karana and run to South Karana and still find the Interrogator standing there with the suspect and I could continue the quest. I reckon if you dont have porting ability and SoW this might be difficult.

Being a lvl 51 druid, doing this quest was easy as pie. The mobs are all green and wont aggro on you until you attack and they wont help each other. I rooted mob one, he sicked his pet on me. I rooted the pet and dotted mob 1 with Drifting death and his pet with my ES Vambs. I then I did the same on mob 2. In all there were three pets, two "ghouls" that looked like small spectres and one skeleton. Just root all mobs and dot them. They die quickly. As a precaution I was buffed with Skin like Nature, Thorncoat, Resist Magic, Disease and Poison. I resisted all attacks.

This quest worked fine for me last weekend, but if you're going to try it, you should be aware that it moves at a snails pace. The Interrigator has the slowest response time of any NPC I've dealt with. It's not a problem, but I thought at first he'd eaten my briefing and was going to ignore me. The 2 baddies beside the Druid ring had a total of 4 pets-2 skellies and 2 "ghouls" that looked like little specters. Necros were dark blue to me (29th lvl) and pets were light blue. Would have killed me, but the 40 Paladin helping me out LOHed me and pretty much wiped the floor with the baddies. Thanks, Dexsteir ).

Just attempted for the 3rd time since aug 14 patch to complete this quest with same result each time. When I get to the part where I attack Theodore Exanthem "without a weapon" he fights to the death, never getting to the part where he is suppose to say "Enough already, etc." and leads you to the two you need for heads to commplete the quest. He dies, falls to the ground, and thus ends the quest before the two can spawn. I sent a bug report on this yesterday and today the same problem is still in effect.
What a waste of a lot of time I could have been using gaining experience fighting.

Due to Jagged pine opening up and the 5th Qeynos badge being introduced... this badge quest has become VERY popular in recent days. I'm finding that the Interrogator that spawns near the tree on the East zone wall is rarely up.
Sometimes he's in the zone but not at his spawn point. If he's not where he's supposed to be, check over by the two bards at the well near the top of the zone. He likes to hang out in that area too. You must kill him if he's at the well as he's bugged. The wait time for respawn is 75 minutes (give or take 15 minutes). good luck all

AOE?
# Jul 10 2002 at 1:59 PM Rating: Decent
Can I pull these mobs away from the Interrigator, so that I can take advantage of my AOE spells? Or can I just aoe next to the Interrigator not having to worry about him aggroing?

4 mobs for a cleric is tuff, but if they are of low enough lvl (lvl51 here) I can ussually manage to get 3 or 4 AOE off taking down many low level mobs.
How Tough?

My experience with the second badge...
# Jun 15 2002 at 5:08 PM Rating: Default
This is as of June 14, 2002.

Tracked down the investigator, handed in the book, waited the 10 minutes it took him to go through his dialog and start walking torwards the hermits hut ( had enough time while he was slowly going through the dialog to med from 20m to fm )

he walks over, calls out the npc. another 10 minutes of diolog slowly scroll past, I hit the guy, he attacks me, I killed him barefisted, he spawns again, targeted the new npc, said "take us to the location" he starts walking torwards the hill, handed over the confession document, he gives it back, continues walking, despawns BEFORE getting to the top of the hill, saying something like "woah, its up to you guys from here, i'm out of here!" The two SK's pop, but instead of just one "Ghoul"( which look like mini-spectre's ) and one "Skeletal Servant" popping, somewhere close to 10 Ghouls and 2 skeletal servants popped, and would then repop if I got too close to the rings while trying to deal w/ the SK's. The Ghouls and the skeletal servants don't have alot of hit points,450 or so max, one lightning blast would kill them, but having 12 mobs beating on you while trying to systematicly snare them to quad makes it difficult to do so. The sk's where never much of a problem, don't even remember getting HT'd during the whole ordeal. both had roughly 1500hp or so,hit for 30 - 40 damage melee, used a stun attack often.
Not sure if the multiple spawning of Ghouls and Skeletal Servants is a bug, or if its how VI decided to make this portion of the quest since fixing it. Would go alot smoother if you bring an extra person along. just my 2cp, hope this helps.

Great they fixed this quest.

One word of advice. When you walk with the interrogator and Theodore Exanthem to the next spot, be prepared for action. I'm a cleric 45 and I ended up with suddenly having 4 mobs on me. The two guys you have to kill for their heads and a couple of undead mobs too. As a cleric I can't do much solo, but I managed anyway. I killed the two guys and gated out of the battle to the wiz spires in NK where I had bound myself. When I returned I saw that nothing had happened to the interrogator and Theodore Exanthem. I could now just hand in my items.

Also, if you forgot to get an unsigned confession document before doing this quest (I did) you can just go back to Qeynos and get one from the investigator there. When you return you can continue the quest. The interrogator and Theodore Exanthem will still be there waiting for you to complete your "discussion" with Theodore Exanthem.

Quest Works fine

Even after a struggle to get the quest done I finally finished it. My suggestion to anyone tryin to do this quest is once you have finished the Investigator's quest and have both Confession Documents and the one head before you hand them to Investigator be sure to ask for another confession document by saying "give me another confession document". This saves you from having to wait for him to respawn after you start the Interrogator Badge quest hich requires you to get a blank confession document from an investigator. I completed the quest in the hardest sort of way. When I went to Theodore Exaltum I hit him like Interrogator asked but my weapon proc AoE on him an hit interrogator. My friend killed the two named guys and I ran around then looted head I ran bak to Theodore and gave him confession document all the while the interr. was hitting me. But all I did was zone out and back in gave the guy the heads and document and still got my badge.

Good Luck on this quest,
Two guys that spawn are casters and have pets but not too hard to kill.
