At the end of the previous quest, Rexx Frostweaver told you to speak to his wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl.

You say, 'Hail, Betti Frostweaver'

Betti Frostweaver says 'Well, hello there, dear, it sure gets cold here, doesn't it? Perhaps I can interest you in a sewing pattern to pass the time and keep you warm.'

You say, 'I am here regarding the embroidered shawl.'

You receive an Embroided Shawl Pattern.

Betti Frostweaver says 'It will be an honor to assist you in fashioning an embroidered shawl. It is a very demanding product and I can see from the look in your eyes that you desire to burn your sewing kit in our furnace, but if you persevere, your efforts will be richly rewarded. When you are ready you must carefully weave a spool of sacred Coldain thread. Take the thread, this pattern, and the silk shawl and carefully embroider the pattern. The result will be most exquisite. Please show me if you manage to create one.'

You say, 'What sacred Coldain thread?'

Betti Frostweaver says 'Take a woven frost giant beard, two siren's hairs, two manticore manes and two Drakkel dire wolf whiskers, and combine them in a sewing kit. The resulting thread will enhance your shawl's power when embroidered in a special pattern.'

The Woven Frost Giant Beard is an uncommon drop from various frost giants across Velious. It is droppable, so you may find it on vendors in Thurgadin.

The NO DROP Siren Hair drops from sirens in Cobalt Scar and Siren's Grotto. This should not be confused with Lock of Siren Hair, which is used for a different quest.

The Manticore Manes are a common drop from A Manticore in Eastern Wastes. These are also droppable and may be found on Thurgadin vendors.

The NO DROP Drakkel Wolf Whiskers drop from A Drakkel Dire Wolf in the Great Divide. They're often left to rot by players killing for faction, so a quick zonewide /shout may net you one or more rather quickly.

Once you have all the components, combine 1 Woven Frost Giant Beard, 2 Siren Hairs, 2 Manticore Manes, and 2 Drakkel Wolf Whiskers in a sewing kit to craft a Spool of Sacred Coldain Thread (trivial 148). Combine the thread with the Embroidered Shawl Pattern and Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit to craft an Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 208). If you fail the final combine, you get the shawl back. If necessary, follow the initial dialogue to get another pattern.

Give Betti the Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Betti Frostweaver says 'Spectacular artistry! I doubt I could have done better myself. You'll have to forgive me, I know time is short and I tend to carry on. This is the pattern for the making of a rune sacred to our people. It will be our final test of your craftsmanship and will put many of your skills to the test, but I trust you'll find the finished product to be more than worth the effort. Show Gilthan the silk shawl, he will set you on the path. May Brell always be with you outlander.'

TADA!! Im very happy that on my secon attempt i made this fine pc of work. A little info for Wiz who might want to try soloing a siren. First time i tried i got ate up. Well live and learn. I hunted at Tower cuz was tired of People training me with sirens. I would target one, go on top of hill, Pull with Ice commet run a little way, stun, Draught, stun, IC, DEAD. Of the four hairs i got they drop from all 3 or 4 sirens. First try i got 2 in bout an hour and half, sencond try i got 2 in arow in bout an hour. I have 159 Tailoring 255int and failed first try. Sencond try i was still at 159 tailoring but decided to try Dex with my intel. I got a brillance and Boon froma 60 chanter, 175Dex 255INT 135Wis, and succeded in my second attemt. No on to Number 7 and EXP for the mobs this time WOOT.

141 Tailoring (OMFG tailoring is a serious time consumer, DO NOT do this quest if you have little patience, I took almost 100 hours to get it to 141 from scratch)
111 WIS
213 INT

Succeeded first time on thread and shawl, neither was trivial. 2 tough parts to this quest, tailoring (just have a ton of patience) and the sirens.

My sirens guide...firstly, strip off everything in favour of MR gear, this is the key. When your MR is around 150 hardly anything will stick. I solo root dotted them as a 60 necro, killed around 15 before i got both hairs. They are babies if they can't cast or charm you, they only have about 2-3khps.

btw as a 60 necro I have soloed everything up to and including 6th shawl. I have soloed most of 7th items but the will need a group for the tooth, blood and seashell.

i WANT to CRY
# Jul 26 2001 at 8:06 PM Rating: Decent
ok .. I am going to Cry..

So far 9 (thats right) 9 attempts at the shawl

frist 5 attempts Failed the thread (first five in a row)

Last 4 attempts Failed the final combine

Ok now for the sick stats

Int has been from 220-255
Wis has been from 140-210
Dex has been from 104-210

Tailoring skill has been (when i started) 158-173

I am really getting tired of this quest what makes it worse is a SK on my server just made the 7th shawl with 132 tailoring arrrggg... and he loves to show it to me :(

want to hear a giggle?

im a 50 magician and decided to see if i could solo the sirens in front of the sg zone (giggle giggles) in case you dont know a mage is nothing but a mushy clump of glue on the ground against an enchanter. luckily they never charmed my pet.

i some how managed to live all 3 encounters which both sent me running for the zone. one i made out with only 85 hp.

im probably never going to get this shawl because there is no way anyone is going to want to join a group to kill these things for an hour. they are just too damn tough for their level. they nuke CONSTANTLY for as much as 290 and they charm they are insanely hard.

same here. i went to the tower, pulled an enticer with ice comet and brought it to half life just like that. ran back to the tower ramp, stunned it, and launched another ice comet, and got a hair on my very first kill. was kinda nerve racking after just hitting 49 and testing ic out on a siren, but im glad i did.

Mage Pet

We (53 druid and 54 mage) used an air pet. His earth pet got charmed and went after us right away, but the air pet's stuns kept interruping the siren's spells and worked really good. None of us, pet included, got charmed once we got his air pet up.

I've got a bad feeling about this...

I've been hunting sirens since the last patch about a week ago. Not a single hair has dropped. I have killed over 30 sirens, the vast majority of which have been enticers. I'd say this was about 5 hours worth of siren killing over two nights. I have filled backpacks with horns, necklaces and siren 'parts', but no hair.

Can someone post who has gotten a couple of hairs in the last few days? I hope the drop rate hasn't been nerfed.

At 156 thread was trivial. Shawl failed :(

Back to the grind.

Is there _anything_ to tailor between 158 -> 2XX that goes trivial ?? All the Velious stuff like Pantherskin, etc. is so tremdously involved.

Unfortunately, short of doing the velious leathers, you can probably do the cultural tailoring up to the 18x's (not sure on trivial cuz I'm too lazy to check right now). Good luck, as if you are stuck doing the velious leathers, it's gonna be expensive to get even 1 skillup, but that's comparable to skilling at the upper levels of JC too (up to 1k per point so far doing the velious stuff). Stick to cultural til trivial, then switch over, unless you have plenty of cash and time to sit around gathering the components (foraging Drake Eggs in SS, getting approximately 1 per hour, if you're killing them at the same time, might do better). Not to mention the cost of making the velium studs or boning, depending on what type of leather you're working with (averaged so far 1 skillup per 20 attempts = 12-1500pp per skillup - it's the damn coldain velium temper that adds up the cost quick).

Haven't tried the 6th yet, just trying to get my skills up as much as possible before I try.

hiya fiz! i will have to give you a tell. I made mine last night at 15 skill. thread was trivial at 151 shawl was not tho...I closed my eyes on both combines. :) I am a 54 shammie so buffed up all stats and got an insight from Soreen ( bless her!) so had about 131 dex 141 agi 204 wis and 88 int. I know i am lucky to so don't flame I was praying for this one seriously :P good luck to you all on yours!

Made Thread at skill 127 (Even got an increase to 128 off the thread hehehehe)...

Failed shawl twice so far, once at 128 (had to try) and again at 138.

Playing with sirens is rough, but I've found its easier to solo them than kill with tanks. A charmed paladin with a FD hurts like heck.

For Druids, You have 2 stun spells that will actually hit them 90% of the time, and one of them is more mana efficient than something like Scoriae.

Mages, don't use pets ;) A charmed Epic pet is really bad on the Master/Party.

Other than that, its just a lesson in monotonus collection of silks/pelts and really boring days.

the trivial on the thread is high, i tried frist at a skill of 149 fail then again on a skill of 170 failed : P, currently on my third try with a skill of 178 will let you know
RE: trivial on thread
# Jun 28 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Excellent
I made the thread at (135) and then at (158) i received the message "you can no longer advance from this combination". So the thread is definitely trivial between 135-158.

I failed the shawl both at 135 and 158 tho. :/

Hair...
# Jun 23 2001 at 10:38 PM Rating: Decent
I would suggest getting the hair first and more than just the two needed. Odds are you'll fail on the first try and this is the most difficult piece to get.
RE: Hair...
# Jun 26 2001 at 3:38 PM Rating: Excellent
I would have to disagree...from what I have been told, the sirens will charm you even with very high MR and cha. This IS the hardest part, and I am told the hair is also a rare drop. Thus, you don't want to spend anymore time killing these things than you need to! Get everything else, duplicates are good (have a friend carry an extra FG beard) and try the combine once you get the hairs. If you succeed, you laugh your *** off and leave and start working on jewelcraft for the 7th shawl. If you fail the combine, get more hair, try again. If you still fail, then worry about getting extra hair for the road ;)
RE: Hair...
# Jul 13 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Default
i DISAGREE WITH YOUR DISAGREEMENT!

Caps lock now off ) heres why: getting the siren hair is much easier with a group(read only necros druids and wizards will solo, and them at their own risk), and it isnt a picnic getting a group together and there, (such a group could get xp and much better loot elsewhere) so pile up on the hard to get hairs if ya fail your first combine because the rest of the critters are chumps (regardless of your class, if yer 45 and have a similar level partner, the other stuff is easy to get to and easy to kill)
I made it!
# Jun 18 2001 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
Ok, I just made the thread and shawl on first attempts at tailoring skill 132. Neither was trivial, from what I have been told by someone else on my server, the 6th shawl isnt trivial until skill 190. But I figured getting the things needed for the 6th is easier than raising tailoring so I was gonna keep trying until I did it. What boggles me is, if the trivial for the 6th is 190, why is it higher than the trivial for the 7th which is only 163....oh well that's Verant for ya hehe. But that is my news, passed both thread and shawl at 132 neither was trivial. Good luck to the rest.

From posts on eqtraders, it apparently won't work - only the No Drop "Siren Hair" from CS will work.

I spent a few hours killing sirens there the other day, got 1 hair from 22 sirens. Enticers seem to drop the most stuff, but I've heard of hairs dropping off other types too.
Dire wolf whiskers
# Jun 11 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Good
There are 2 types of drakkel dire wolves in GD. One form takes 2 retributions and 1 sound of force to kill. I killed hundreds of these, never got a single whisker. Second type are much larger in physical size. These take 3 retributions(516 damage) and a sound of force(220 damage) to kill. Got whiskers off both I killed. These larger variety are not very common. I kill wolves for faction and avoid the larger ones due to taking more mana. If i fail the 6th shawl, will be back to killing them and will post some more accurate numbers on large wolf whisker drop rate.
Siren hair
# Jun 11 2001 at 1:58 AM Rating: Default
FYI - After several hours of hunting sirens in Cobalt Scar the only ones that dropped Sirens Hair seemed to be the Siren Enticers - which conveniently are the lower level ones. Very rare drop. Got four in many hours of hunting - made thread and failed shawl on first attempt at 120 skill. Gonna get skill higher and try again.
