This quest was changed after the plague affecting the Karanas was resolved. The following is the current version of the quest. There is a lot of missing information currently regarding rewards from the various possible turnin NPCs so we appreciate any data people can share.

Bag of Bread Loaves is a very rare drop from Sporali-type creatures found in Runnyeye. Returning the Bag of Bread Loaves to various food-related vendors in most cities will result in some minor coin and faction gain with a variety of factions related to that city.

Upon giving the Bread to Karn Tassen in South Qeynos

Karn Tassen says 'Ah finally, fresh bread! All right let me get this on the shelves right away. Here is your payment.

Your faction standing with MerchantsofQeynos has been adjusted by 4.

Your faction standing with GuardsofQeynos has been adjusted by 1.

Upon giving the Bread to Innkeep Morpa in The Feerott

Upon giving the Bread to Innkeep Rislarn in West Karana
Need information on faction/reward gained

Upon giving the Bread to Gretta Mottle in South Kaladim
Gretta Mottle says, 'Well now, what do we have here? You actually went out of your way to fetch bread for me? Thank ye so kindly. Please accept this payment for your service.'

Your faction standing with MerchantsofKaladim has been adjusted by 4.

Your faction standing with MinersGuild249 has been adjusted by 1.

There are likely Innkeepers around every major city that the Bag of Bread Loaves can be turned into for factions in the surrounding areas, if anyone happens to turn it into these NPCs please let us know and we can add them to the quest.

This quest was changed after the plague affecting the Karanas was resolved. Below is what the original quest looked like maintained for historical reference.

The current edition of the Qeynos newspaper suggested speaking with Qeynos Merchants and the Coalition of Tradefold about how we can help in the current famine.

Speak to Karn or Voleen Tassan in Voleen's Bakery in South Qeynos.

The conversation with Karn:

You say, 'Hail Karn Tassen'

Karn Tassen says 'Bah, I told Voleen it would happen and it finally did! Food is becoming so scarce that I'm starting to run out of stock. You wouldn't happen to [be a baker] yourself or maybe you [know] someone who bakes?

You say, 'I am a baker'

Karn Tassen says 'Well good! Maybe you can help me restock. If you are a baker you could help me out by restocking my [muffin supply]. Or if you don't mind a little travel, you can pick up a [shipment of bread] for me.

You say, 'I will pick up a shipment of bread'
[note that responding to muffin supply gives you a different quest]

Karn Tassen says 'There is a guy that lives in the plains to the south. I guess the plague hasn't hit that area too bad. Anyway, he's one heck of a baker and makes some quality bread. Go look him up and tell him you want a bag of bread loaves. He's one of those fellas that goes by the name of Meadowgreen.

Voleen gives almost the same information, and identifies the person as Jarlen Meadowgreen. He is with the group of centaurs that hands out the crafted armor quests and circulates between standing near his brothers and checking his bread rising by the large fire pit (the text while he is checking this is rather amusing.)

Hail him and say, 'I am here to pick up some bread loaves.'

Jarlen Meadowgreen says 'So, ya want some of my bread is that it? Well, you've come to the right place I'd say. My brothers told me the market was ripe for that sort of thing so I decided to move on over here. Anyway, hand over two gold pieces and I'll give ya a sack of bread made by me own two hands.'

Give him 2 gold (I don't know if some combination of gold, silver and copper would work) and you get a Bag of Bread Loves (LORE NO DROP.) Return and give to Karn (or, presumably, Voleen)

Karn Tassen says 'Ah finally, fresh bread! All right let me get this on the shelves right away. Here is your payment.

Your faction standing with MerchantsofQeynos got better.
Your faction standing with CircleOfUnseenHands got worse.
Your faction standing with AntoniusBayle got better.
Your faction standing with CoalitionofTradefolk got better.
Your faction standing with GuardsofQeynos got better.

You gain experience!!
You receive 3 gold from Karn Tassen.
You receive 1 platinum from Karn Tassen.

While Jarlen Meadowgreen is no more, this quest does still work. The "quest" itself is much shorter now though, kill sporalis inside of Runnyeye until you get the Bag of Bread Loaves then return it back to whatever city you are looking to gain faction on. Confirmed to still be working in Qeynos and I will attempt to test other cities such as Oggok/Grobb/Neriak to see if their respective turnin NPCs will still take it.

Bag of Bread Loaves
# Jun 07 2003 at 5:27 AM Rating: Decent
I looted a Bag of Bread Loaves off a goblin in Runnyeye the other day. First time I had ever seen this item drop anywhere, let alone in Runnyeye, which I practically live in.
STILL NO JARLEN
# Nov 03 2002 at 4:11 PM Rating: Decent
As of this date NO JARLEN. Was wondering if the PLAGUE needs to be started again. I was goofing around as a Human Necro in the sewers of Qeynos and there were several quests to do that would get the PLAGUE started again. Also, there was something about how the Skeleton minions of Bertoxxilous were acting funny since the <?-event, ??something??> happened.

# Dec 08 2001 at 9:27 PM Rating: Default
I remembered picking up the crated months ago and getting the quest in freeport somewhere. Now that i've finally gotten around to finishing it, i can no longer find the merchant who originally gave me the quest. Does anyone know which merchant in freeport offers this? Is it even offered anymore? i know i didnt get it in qeynos because i got this quest when i was around level 15, and at that time i had never been outside of freeport and rivervale. Can i get some help pls.

The merchants in the last building before you get to the Gate in East freeport (Zone with the docks in it) Used to give this quest out but they say they have enuff stuff now..I used this quest for one lvl in couple hours of running around lvl 19 (Tping and running)
Broken quest
# Nov 28 2001 at 1:47 PM Rating: Decent
This quest is definatly not working. When hailed, Karn does not give the prompt: You wouldn't happen to [be a baker] anymore. Has anyone asked a GM?

Since the GM event to remove the plague from the Karanas, the quest is broken. The food supply is unhindered, and no further deliveries are necessary.

Which is a shame because this was a nice quest to do.
No more plague, no more quest
# Nov 17 2001 at 5:12 PM Rating: Default
It would appear that this quest existed only due to the plague in the Karanas. Since the plague is gone, the merchants no longer need help getting their goods, hence no more quests. I've noticed that the bread shipment quest (and in some cases the muffin quest) is no longer given out by merchants who used to during the plague. It's a darn shame because it was no-brainer way to raise faction with the guards of Oggok and Clurg so that anyone could do the stein of moggok quest.
Jarlen is AWOL
# Nov 13 2001 at 5:36 PM Rating: Default
I've been searching for him too. He's not the only NPC to turn up missing since the last patch. The druid in WC who sells the gate spells has disappeared, also.

I also have been unable to find Jarlen since the last patch and have looked several times for him. This was a good way to pick up a couple of pp fairly quickly and kill some stuff along the way for exp.
Sure hope EQ didn't nerf this one....ack.
Quest Removed????
# Nov 09 2001 at 9:23 AM Rating: Default
Has this quest been removed? I have been unable to find Jarlen Meadowgreen since the patch. I am hoping that I have been very unlucky in that higher level characters have killed him everytime I went looking in his barn. Or does he not spawn at the Centaur Stables in SK any longer?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This quest was a great way to raise faction without any negatives, plus a nice little exp boost as well.
Oggok
# Sep 29 2001 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
Didnt there used to be a way to do this quest in Oggok? I remember it having Clurg and guard faction but cant remember who you went to there. Anyone remember?
RE: Oggok
# Oct 03 2001 at 5:14 AM Rating: Default
The merchant for the Oggok faction version of this quest is Innkeep Morpa, who is actually in the Feerott, not Oggok itself. You only need to be dubious to do the quest (wolf form gets you to indifferent). She's in one of the huts on the road that leads to the city. It gives faction boosts for Clurg, the merchants of Oggok, and the guards of Oggok.

BTW, I've noticed that most bread merchants in several zones give the same bread/muffin quests. Different factions raised, of course.
kelethin quest

um.. btw.. i was in wolf form which adjusted my faction to indif in kelethin when i actually did the quest :)
Bread Quest
# Sep 21 2001 at 2:14 AM Rating: Default
I, as a agnostic dark elf wizard did this quest 3 or 4 times in kelethin (merchant is the innkeeper just up from newbie lift, on same platform as the forge) and I got my faction from "scowls" to "threatening" I will do it a few more times so I can actually bank/shop in kelethin. The factions in kelethin are all positive, they were as follows :
kelethin merchants
feydark's champions
anti-mage
and something else i cant remember.

I was wondering if there is similar quests in felwithe and erud. I really want to do mystic cloak quest.

Exp nerfed
# Jul 24 2001 at 7:53 PM Rating: Default
7/24/01 patch nerfed the exp (at least for Innkeep James in NK) from half a yellow to almost nothing at level 12.

hehe, oh well, it was an easy and profitable 4 levels... now time to work on catching up the lagging skills :-)
RE: Exp nerfed
# Oct 24 2001 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
It is still profitable at lvl 28. Just don't get jack crap for EXP anymore. I have been making atleast 1 to 2 pp off the quest each time..and that is pretty helpful since lvl 29 spells are DAMN expensive as a druid.
Vendor respawns
# Jul 21 2001 at 12:43 AM Rating: Default
Note that the quest will cause the vendor to respawn immediately (now with bread items). Make sure he's not selling some player item you want first, because he'll respawn with the "standard" Innkeep stock only.
Cheap exp and profit
# Jul 21 2001 at 12:40 AM Rating: Default
Pay 2gp and make 1-4pp. At level 10, you make over half a yellow bub of exp (make a level doing the quest 10 times). Get SoWed, and you can do the cycle between the Centaurs and Innkeep James in 10 minutes roundtrip running, or a full level in about an hour and a half.

The centaur accepts 20sp too, although his emote still says he accepted 2gp.

# Jun 28 2001 at 11:41 AM Rating: Default
The exp is great even at lvl 26 i still get the same exp as killing something 3 lvls higher than me, and then all my mana is wasted, no this quest is great i have done it since i was lvl 19 and now im 26 just bound myself next to jarlen in s karena and ported and gated back and forth to ferrot, Innkeep Gub takes the bread and gives 1-4pp plus lots of nice exp and faction with guards and clurg and merchants in oggok, i can now do the stein of moggok quest also thanks to this quest. Im still dubios to innkeep gub, but that doesnt seem to matter it works anyway, in wolf form however he looks warmly upon me... guards in oggok are indiff to me. Im a wood elf druid btw...
