This quest lets you get back your newbie robe/weapon in case you lost it so that you can do the quests that require it. Hail your Guild Master to start the quest. Each class starts a little different, but the phrases are pretty obvious.

Toilmaster Path. This part is the same for everyone.

Then you get a Ragged Book. Read it (it is quite interesting). Then go to East Cabilis and find The Toilmaster. Give him the book and...

The Toilmaster looks at the tome and speaks to you, scowling, 'Very well Broodling, I have a task for you. I should make you work at the feet of my Froglok Slaves, crushing granite, but the lore of the Brood has a specific rite for this situation. Take this book and learn the will of Cazic-Thule. Read it and ask me any questions that you may have before you start your penance. It would be a shame for you to fail at this task as well... though I wouldn't mind destroying you.'

You receive a book called Rites of Exoneration. Read the book, it tells you to ask him for the hammer and a bag.

    You say, 'Hail The Toilmaster'

The Toilmaster says 'Do not bother me unless you wish to join the chain gang. Now go away or I shall have my slaves chop you as they chop this granite!'

You say, 'I need the Hammer of Exoneration'

The Toilmaster hands you a massive hammer and says, 'So, you can read. Good for you. Don't think that you're going to make an impression on me with that rubbish. Let's see if you can handle this hammer like you can that book, whelp.'

The Toilmaster hands you the Hammer of Exoneration, 4/60, effect: Bone Shatter, wt. 25.0. You have to make this hammer proc 54 times.

You say, 'I need the bag'

The Toilmaster turns his head to focus on you and hands you a dusty bag. He then returns to looking into the distance, just over your left shoulder.

He hands you Penance Bag, an 8 slot bag, in which you will later combine 7 Powdered Bones and 1 Flask of Bloodwater.

For now, go back to West Cabilis. In the building near the necro guild on the wall, there's a mortician. He's a skelly, but he won't hurt you.

    You say, 'Hail a mortician'

a mortician stares at you with hollow eye sockets. As he opens his jaw to speak, you are overcome by the foul smell of a thousand rotted corpses. 'What is your desire, master?'

You say, 'I desire a mortar and pestle'

a mortician moves with a mixture of creaks and clicks and produces a grotesque looking mortar and pestle set. He places the items in your hands and motions indicating you dismissal. You can feel the vile power of your god moving throughout the material that makes up the two items.

The Grotesque Mortar and Pestle is what you combine the bone fragments in that you get. It's an 8 slot container. Here's the part where it gets BORING. I went to Lake of Ill Omen, there's lots of mobs there that you can fight for a long time without causing too much harm. If you get low on life, cast leach or something.

When you do get 8 Bone Fragments, you combine them in the mortar and pestle and you get a white Powdered Bone. Put that in the bag. You need 7 of them. When you have 7 Powdered Bones, put one Flask of Bloodwater in there and hit combine to get a Filled Penance Bag. Then turn that bag and the book you have into your guild master.

    Necromancer version:

    You say, 'Hail Nihilist Zeegarn'

Nihilist Zeegarn says 'Mind yourself within Cabilis. We will not tolerate any mischief. If you don't heed my warnings, you may be sentenced to the pit of the Crusaders of Greenmist. You don't want that! Also, you should always wear your robe when entering these walls. You do have your Drape of the Brood, correct?

You say, 'I do not have my drape of the brood'

Nihilist Zeegarn says 'What is this?' the Nihilist barks in disbelief. 'You have lost your drape? This is unacceptable! Take this note and report to the Toilmaster at once. Read it on the way and praise Cazic-Thule for any mercy that you may be granted!'

    Shaman version:

    You say, 'Hail, Hierophant Zand'

Hierophant Zand raises his hand and looks up. 'May the wisdom of the ancients lead your soul to suffering and everlasting pain. Such is the will of Cazic-Thule. I see something in your eyes, Grizzer. Have you lost something... your cudgel perhaps?'

    You say, 'yes'

Hierophant Zand says 'That is most unfortunate for you. Your suffering will be extended on this plane, until you find your way back to us. Take this and read it on your way to speak with the Toilmaster. He will guide you. Yesssss...' You feel as if something is peering at you from behind the speaker's soulless eyes as the last letter he speaks transforms into a sigh.'

He then hands you the book.

Nihilist Zeegarn takes the bag and tome from you and in return gives you the item that you have been thinking of all of this time. Lucky, you... you have earned a second chance. Praise Cazic-Thule! You get your Newbie Robe back.

    Monk version:

    You say, 'Hail, Master Niska'

Master Niska bows with elegance and grace. You can see her arms rippling with muscles. 'Greetings. We are the Swifttails. We are the harnessers of the elements. We are the tails of discipline. To achieve rebirth into our castle is a great honor indeed. We can be identified by our adornments. You should display that which we have given you to adorn your arms with pride. You do have your bracer, correct?

You say, 'I do not have my bracer'

Master Niska says, 'You dare disgrace us?' She hisses at you. 'If you have truly lost the marking of our caste, you will need to take this note and speak to the Toilmaster immediately. Read it on the way and praise the will of Cazic-Thule.'

Your faction standing with Swift tails has been adjusted by 100.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by 25.

    Shadownight version:

    Human Shadowknight

    You say, 'Hail, Squire Gristle'

Squire Gristle says, 'Hail, Broodling! When you walk the halls of this tower, you should always display the status that you have earned within our ranks. It brings me pride to see the might of the brood displayed by one such as you while I reflect here in the tower. Do you have the tool of your caste with you at this time?'

You say, 'I do not have my kukri'

Squire Gristle shakes his head and growls. That is not good, broodling... Not good at all. You will need to take this note and seek out the Toilmaster immediately. Read it on the way and hope that your incompetence can be overcome. We do have a pit for you, should this prove to be impossible.

The Toilmaster looks at the tome and speaks to you, scowling, 'Very well, broodling, I have a task for you. I should make you work at the feet of my froglok slaves, crushing granite, but the lore of the brood has a specific rite for this situation. Take this book and learn the will of Cazic-Thule. Read it and ask me any questions you may have before you start your penance. It would be a shame for you to fail at this task as well... though I wouldn't mind destroying you.'

    You say, 'hammer of exoneration'

The Toilmaster hands you a massive hammer and says, 'So, you can read. Good for you. Don't think that you're going to make an impression on me with that rubbish. Let's see if you can handle this hammer like you can that book, whelp.'

You say, 'i need the bag'

The Toilmaster turns his head to focus on you and hands you a dusty bag. He then returns to looking into the distance, just over your left shoulder.

    You say, 'Hail, a mortician'

A mortician stares at you with hollow eye sockets. As he opens his jaw to speak, you are overcome by the foul smell of a thousand rotted corpses. 'What is your desire, master?'

You say, 'i desire a mortar and pestle'

A mortician moves with a mixture of creaks and clicks and produces a grotesque looking mortar and pestle set. He places the items in your hands and motions indicating you dismissal. You can feel the vile power of your god moving throughout the material that makes up the two items.

    Turn in completed:
Squire Gristle takes the bag and tome from you and in return gives you the item that you have been thinking of all of this time. Lucky, you... you have earned a second chance. Praise Cazic-Thule!
Your faction standing with Cabilis Residents has been adjusted by 100.
Your faction standing with Legion of Cabilis has been adjusted by 25.
You receive 1 copper from Squire Gristle.
You receive 1 silver from Squire Gristle.

    Warrior version:

Crusader Zixo is the NPC warriors have to speak to get the Ragged Book for The Penance. He roams in the watery area in front of War Baron Eator between Smithy Krikt & Weaponsmith Grugl. Hail him and he says:

'Do you come to me empty handed, knave? Did you lose your pike?'

Just say 'Yes' to him and you get this message when he hands you the ragged book:

Crusader Zixo roars at you, heat pouring into his dead eyes. 'Do you know what this means, wretch? I will give you one chance to prevent your floating near my feet. Take this tome and go speak to the Toilmaster. MOVE, while you still have breath.'

    Doesn't work?
    # May 25 2001 at 3:26 PM Rating: Good
I tried this quest, the monk version. Right now I have the 2nd shackle and the 3rd shackle. I was trying to get a the first shackle (again) so I could use it to get the third shackle (again) after I got the fourth shackle (you need the first + the second + 2 bandit masks to get the third). I know that this seems confusing, but the shackles are LORE NODROP, but I was trying to always have the N and N-1 shackles. Anyway, when I gave the filled bag to the Naska woman monk, she said nothing and did nothing (no experience, no thank you for giving me the wrong stuff) and yes, I hailed her beforehand. I /petitioned, but nobody answered in the remaining hour that I was online. Any ideas? In case it matters this happened to me on 3/24/01.

You forgot to turn in the book as well. You have to read the instructions in the book (or copy them from a website) very carefully.

And to answer the other anonymous replier, yes Master Naska is the correct place to turn the items back in. You don't turn them in to the guildmaster, you turn them in to the master that started you on the quest.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 25 2001 at 6:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sounds like you have to turn it in to your guildmaster and I'm pretty sure the female monk ISNT the iksar monk guildmaster.
