  • 1. Pickpocket a Stained Parchment Bottom from Tani N'Mar

  • 2. Find Founy Jestands outside the bank in North Kaladim. Pickpocket a Stained Parchment Top.

  • 3. Go to High Pass hold and find Anson McBale

Tell him you "need to see Stanos"

    Stanos will spawn.

  • 4. Give Stanos both stained parchments you pickpocketed. Receive a note from Stanos.

  • 5. Give some stuff to Eldreth in Lake Rathe

Get 2 bottles of milk, and a 100PP. Give Eldreth him the milk, 100PP and the note from Stanos.

    You're Given: Scribbled Parchment

  • 6. Go to PoHate and get the Book of Souls (ground spawn at +178, -320 the top of a dresser)

  • 7. Go To Steamfont Mountains and find Yendar Starpyre.

Give him the Scribbled Parchment from Eldreth and receive Tattered Parchment. Then give him the Tattered Parchment and the Book of Souls. Beware Renux Herkanor spawns when you do the hand in.

  • 12. Hand General V`ghera the head of Stanos and he will give you the mask.

General V`ghera says 'Life is indeed sweet! Thank you, ______, you have done me a great service this day. Take this, Stanos was kind enough to return it to me, and I have no use for it now. Know that you have the blessing of Innoruuk for this deed! But of course, I leave it to you to leave here alive. A leader has to feed his minions, you know.'

If Stanos will spawn just by telling Anson McBale you "need to see Stanos" why do I have to do any of the other parts? Can't I just kill Stanos?

The general will only spawn if you give the box to one of the dark elves.

Did a video guide showing the quest. Was a lvl 70 bard on Mangler during Depths of Darkhollow Expansion. Followed the 11 steps from the post below. Was able to lull V’ghera with the PoP lvl 65 song to be able to turn in the head. https://youtu.be/EJVnHKvFCvk

So today I attempted this quest on my level 50 bard and I ran into an inconvenience, turns out that it's impossible to hand in Stano's Head to the General. I couldn't turn it in while invisible, and I discovered that he ignores Sneak. I ended up having to get an enchanter to cast memory blur on him while a tank kept him busy, I had to give him the item immediately after the memory blur and then wait for another memory blur to hit the trade button, if he targets you or aggros while the trade window is open he will just give back the head, so you need to trade when he is in a neutral state.

I just did this quest and your comment helped me with the final 2 turn ins to the dark elves. I'm a bard so I was struggling with it. I found that you could get the trade box open while invis, but they would just give the item back. The solution? Fading Memories. Once you get the trade box up hit fading memories and immediately hit the trade button and the quest will complete.

For killing Stanos, you take the following faction hits:

Your faction standing with Highpass Guards has been adjusted by -400.
Your faction standing with Carson McCabe has been adjusted by -60.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Highpass has been adjusted by -60.
Your faction standing with Corrupt Qeynos Guards has been adjusted by -20.
Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by -20.

I was max ally with Highpass Guards and the other factions above, and even after killing Stanos, they con'd as ally.
Also, at 76, Anson and Stanos were both lt blue con to me. I dispatched Stanos without much trouble, but be warned, the *entire zone* makes it's way to the fight and aids Stanos. I Escaped as soon as he dropped and I looted his head, and everyone reset. After that, they were all still ally, as I mentioned.

    GL getting your mask!

    Barding it!!!
    # Nov 19 2015 at 11:56 AM Rating: Decent
FOR BARDS< BARDS< BARDS!!! To save you time on this quest.

So if you are a bard like me or rogue and you find yourself at high lvl you can kill both mobs instead of trying to pickpocket shrouded for hours on end:

    1. Find Tani N`Mar in the Hall of the Ebon Mask (rogue's guild) in Neriak Third Gate. Pickpocket a Stained Parchment Bottom

    2. Find Founy Jestands outside the bank in North Kaladim. Pickpocket a Stained Parchment Top.

    These two mentioned up above.

Other than that, the rest of the quest is quite simple just a lot of running around. Had to kill Tani about 15 or 20 times before he dropped parchment but he is insta spawn so all you have to do is knock off the 2 mil hp he has. Took me about 5 minutes each time to kill him with merc.

Founy droped the note the first time i killed him but he takes about 20 min to respawn.

I would advise when you go to turn in box to Advisor to get the general to spawn kill all the undead plus the all the named dark elf except for Advisor and either Fade if you are a bard or Escape if you are a Rogue. Come back, sneak behind Advisor, hand in box to him to pop General. Then I just killed off the advisor, faded again, sneak behind General, and turned in the head and got the mask.

He will despawn once you hand in Stanos' head, so be prepared for this. I just made this mistake trying to help a rogue friend with his epic, and thought we could do that and get us both (me being a bard) the illusion item. Of course I tell my friend to hand the General the head first thinking we could both do that, and then kill him for the epic. WRONG! I see no one mention that he will despawn, so I thought I would post it.

This quest is easy, and you dont need to do the whole of the epic:

    3. Go to High Pass hold and fin Anson McBale and tell him you 'need to see Stanos'

    4. Give Stanos both stained parchments you pickpocketed. Receive a note from Stanos.

    5. Get 2 bottles of milk, and a 100PP and go to Lake Rathe and find Eldreth, give him the milk, 100PP and the note, receive a Scribbled Parchment

    6. Go to PoHate and get the Book of Souls (ground spawn)

    7. Go To Steamfont Mountains and find Yendar Starpyre. Give him the Scribbled Parchment from Eldreth and receive Tattered Parchment. Then give him the Tattered Parchment and the Book of Souls.

    8. Renux spawns, kill her and loot the Translated Parchment.

    9. Take the Translated Parchment back to Stanos (Talk to McBale to get Stanos to spawn) he will give you the Sealed Box. Make sure you have your box before you kill Stanos as you will take a faction hit)

    10. Talk so McBale again to get Stanos to repop and kill him, loot his head (you may need to kill him more then once as he doesnt always have the head. (Kill him, check, if he hasnt got the head quickly zone into the Keep to lose aggro)

From what I know he is about Vindi level difficulty.

Getting him without adds seems to be the issue.

Was thinking that having Anson pulled to HK zone, puller zones.. Then Have somone Hail anson and give him the trigger line. But, Not sure if you will get the " cant you see I'm busy " reply like that.

I'm sure he can be zerged and split tank and take him down sloppy like, loot and gtfo. But I dont like CR even if its easy.

And Hand in is easy. can do this part alone.

    1) Hide sneak. get behind a mob close to where the General pops. Turn off hide, hand in and immeiatly turn hide back ok.

    2) waddle over to behind the general. same peocces. Turn off Hide, hand in, immediatly hide.

    3) get to safety, use mask, look like a sissy HEF.

Bring a raiding party if ya want to clear all but one Darky if ya wanna do it the paranoid careful way.

If any of this is wrong pick away at it all ya want.

Completed this today as a lvl 80 bard. Basically did the whole rogue epic. For the pick pocket parts I shrouded to lvl 70 Globin Rogue.

Ran up in Hate and grabbed book. was easy, nothing could kill me or damage me really there.

Killed Stanos solo. was hard, pulled him to the ledge where you can jump down to HighKeep, took a few tries to get him solo without Anson or the GM rogue lady. Killed the little "a smugglers" that came with him, killed him. Was hard, had to use pots.

Pulled one of the named DE's in Kithcor out solo and faded, sneaked, ran up and handed in Sealed box and spawned the Gen. Pulled Gen out across zone until I had him solo, faded, sneaked, ran up handed in head got mask. I think sneak failed both these times but I ran up so fast and handed in i did it before I got agro i believe.

    Questions, ask, I'm on tribunal.

I have the box and the head, just wondering does the general spawn at the location of the DE when you hand in the book? Does the DE despawn? and should I be playing invis song, faded, sneaking? When I sneak and hide, after moving i become unhidden. I have read all the posts about the mask but still am unsure. I would be grateful for some info on exactly how to do the turn in as i dont want to have to get the box again.

Im not sure what is going on when you try to kill him now. But if you aggro him now you aggro almost every NPC on that faction in the zone. 2-30 mobs

I tagged him and ran passed teh water tunnel to some dry land . .ended up getting the 2 GM rogues with him. Soloed him there - 75 SK

75 Warrior and 75 Cleric, our tactic was to pull him woth hate agro from combat abilities so we wouldnt summon while bringing him to Kith ZL. Once we got there Warrior let his Hps drop to Furious and ate up Stanos. Afterwards i patched a heal. Was way to easy. He dropped head on first go. Logged Rogue..

*note* Loot time was 30 mins :)

Completed this today (aka after revamp).

It is def still doable, but the one thing I did notice differently is that after you turn in the head, the General despawns. We used to do multiple turn ins at once in our guild for this.. go kill Stanos 10 times, get 10 heads, spawn General and have each person turn in head, then kill General.. but you can't do this anymore... 1 sealed box = 1 turn in or 1 kill... i have to go make like 8 more boxes now.. (great)

can anyone that knows for a FACT confirm/deny this to be clickable from inventory for classes other then those listed on the item. I have a Guise of the Deceiver on my halfling ranger (so I get sneak and hide) and i'm assuming since this is part of the "Guise of the X" like my DE mask I will be able to use it from inventory, but would like someone to confirm or deny it working from someone that has actually completed it before I go shrouding to a rogue and going through the motions. Thank you.. FYI if I dont get a response on this post I will do it myself and lay this issue to bed.

Killed him five times today before the head finally dropped. Group was

    70 Rogue (me, tanking)
    68 Shaman
70 Chanter (pulling to kith zl single)
    70 Cleric
    61 Monk (he was bored)

Was a challenging fight with that group, but the biggest challenge was for the chanter to pull single.

Got my High Elf mask last night. (Heh, I look like a pansy in it, but I'm glad to have it.) Spawning the General wasn't too terribly difficult. I brought an enchanter and paladin friend along with me for this bit. We started at 8 A.M. game time, right as the undead despawned. I followed the Rohane's Ultimate Rogue Epic Guide for this bit.

    (1) The enchanter cast runes and a magic resist on us.
    (2) I sneak/hid and targetted Brigadier G'Tav. The enchanter /assisted off of me and pacified him.
    (3) The paladin ran into the house to get agro on everything. He also did a lap around the house, then ran around the zone keeping the dark elves (aside from the brigadier) occupied.
    (4) I stood as best as I could behind the Brigadier G'Tav, broke hide (but did not break sneak), gave him the Sealed Box, rehid, and hit the trade button.
    (5) General V'Ghera spawned, happily unaware of my presence.
    (6) I sneak/hid behind him, following the same process of breaking hid, giving him the head, rehiding, and hitting the trade button. Blamo kablamo, he gave me the mask, thanked me, and despawned.

Killed tonight for me (70 bard), group was:

    70 bard
    70 zerker (tank)
    70 cleric
    70 necro
    70 monk

Pulled and killed smugglers, then pulled Anson, started killing him but ended up getting bored around 75%, so the cleric just pulled Stanos and zerker tanked both... went down in about two minutes, dropped the head first time, and we continued smashing Anson until about 25%, and the cleric had to go afk for a bit... so we just mezzed & gated out and all that fun stuff. Zerker had no problem tanking, but then he's also just under 10k unbuffed and #3 serverwide, which helps a bit... we had a pally on the way to tank, but we got impatient and just started killing. Cleric only dropped as low as 60m, and that was after we pulled Stanos and the zerker was double-tanking, then she got back up to about 95m while Anson was the focus of our fun. Now to do the rogue epic, and my bard's gonna have another fun mask to add to her collection!

Stanos isn't really all that difficult to kill. To do it I 5 boxed using a 65 war, 65 dru, 65 rog, 58 brd, and a 62 clr.
The first time I killed him I made the mistake of killing Stanos right where he spawns when you say, "I need to see Stanos" to Anson. That got about every mob that is on his faction to his spawn spot. I still managed to kill him regardless it just made it a bit more difficult to do with all the stupid green adds smacking my healers and such. No head also on first try.
The second try I spawned him as above then pulled him around the corner a bit near the oven. When I did that the only mobs I had to worry about were Stanos, Anson, and some stupid smuggler (who died to my DS regardless). Here I had the war tank both Stanos and Anson and the rest do damage to Stanos. Occasionally I needed to taunt him off of the cleric after a few CHs but otherwise it went smoothly. After Stanos' death I would loot his corpse and then succor to lose agro from Anson. Overall it took me 4 kills to get 2 heads (one for the rogue and one for the bard).
Not too hard and it doesn't require any FD splits or anything else fancy. The war has 5k HPs unbuffed so he isn't anything super really. Both Stanos and Anson are unslowable so don't waste your time bringing a slower. Also both have high resists to FR and CR so nukers didn't seem to help me too much either.
    Good luck all.

This is a remarkably simpler fight than everyone is making it out to be. We had 8 people, one of which was the rogue who held Anson at the zoneline away from the fight.

Pull took a few tries, fought Stanos near the cave he spawns in just out of aggro range of the folk who wander up to aid him. Had a cleric, 2 warriors, bard, ranger, and two others. One healer was plenty on a defensive tank. Tank, of course, died with Stanos at 10% or so as defensive dropped. Second warrior picked it up and we finished him off. So with virtually no DPS the fight only took about three minutes. All in all, he's about as tough as a named in BoT if the named were unslowable and almost completely MR.

Killed him twice today. no head on either occasion. We pulled him to the other side of the smuggler area outside the cave by the oven and pottery wheel. We harmo'd Cyri and she didnt come although Anson came regardless of harmo or lull. We were able to mez Anson using Rapture. Our chanter who was holding is lvl 65. Puller was me (65 rogue) and I let Stanos kill me on pull so as to save faction. Didnt take him long. Our tank (65 ogre war) used defensive and Stanos dies easily. Have 2 65 clerics and a druid for heals. 3 rogues, bard, war, pally, monk, wiz, 2 chanters, ranger, bard, and a mage was our force...avg lvl 64. Think thats all we had. Stanos was not slowable nor did spells hit with much effectiveness. Need fast heals.

Make sure you pull Stanos out of cave as other mobs do come to his aide from within zone. They come to the cave and upon finding nothing begin to walk back to their spawns. They didnt aggro us over by stove area.

Once dead you can tell Anson you need to see Stanos while he is mezzed in camp and repeat cycle once warrior has defensive up again. this will allow zone mobs time to get back to their spawns.

We killed Stanos twice tonight for a rogue in my guild. His head didn't drop either time. How rare is the drop? I thought it dropped every time.

    Thank ye,

Being a little bored last night I managed to get a get a few friends and a few friends of my wife over to High Pass to ruin some faction... I mean kill Stanos. It was pretty much overkill but I got his head on the 4th or 5th Stanos and of course my wife got his head the very next try. So no, he does not drop his head every time though he does seem to be more willing to give head to the ladies... wait that came out wrong...

Stanos himself doesnt have a timer, he's triggered when someone says the phrase "I need to see Stanos" to Anson McBale. As such, it is possible to spawn him as many times as you need upon demand so long as a friendly chanter mezzes and memblurs Anson for you.
