This task is received at the conclusion of the previous task: Spiritual Corruption"

Tarson Lonewolf says, 'That is disturbing. I expect that the explosive fungal growth is caused by the spiritual corruption. I may have an inkling of the cause, but I don't want to believe it. I need some confirmation but getting it might be somewhat dangerous. Are you [interested]?'

You say, 'I am interested'
You have been assigned the task 'Power Corrupts'.

Tarson Lonewolf says, 'Great. I'll need you to kill some of the spirit-touched and animated rocks to release the spirits and get them away from whatever is consuming them. Then I'll want you to follow Commander Yaminshavraylin without letting her know you are following her.'

Destroy spirit-touched and animated debris, rubble, and scrap.
Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin, but don't allow yourself to be seen.

  • 1. Kill 5 spirit-touched debris, rubble, and scrap 0/5 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 2. Kill 5 animated debris, rubble, and scrap 0/5 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 3. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 4. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 5. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 6. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 7. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 8. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 9. Follow Commander Yaminshavraylin 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

  • 10. Converse with Tarson Lonewolf 0/1 (Ruins of Shadow Haven)

    You say, 'Hail, Tarson Lonewolf'

    Tarson Lonewolf says, 'So what was the Commander [doing]?'

    You say, 'It started simple. She wasn't doing anything weird. The Commander started fairly mundanely. She walked to the library and looked about the room as usual for someone doing a patrol.'

    Tarson Lonewolf says, 'That is [normal]. Continue; I'll interrupt again when you speak about something abnormal.'

    You say, 'Yes, it was normal. She left the library and spent a minute observing goings on from the bridge nearby. She then went to the banker and asked if anyone had been acting suspiciously. When she received a negative answer, she studied the room, then moved on. She walked around a bit, then out into the city center where the fungal creatures have taken over. Then, as she moved east towards the wall where the stone creatures are, she turned herself invisible.'

    Tarson Lonewolf says, 'Invisible? Really? That's weird... By all reports she is a warrior, so she should not know how to cast spells. Did she drink a [potion]? And what did she do next?'

    You say, 'No. She didn't drink a potion. She used some sort of magic. I can't rule out that she had an item she could activate with concentration. Once she was invisible, she moved up to the piles of rubble. She spent about five minutes at the three largest piles against the outer wall. She would look for people observing her, and after a pause, her hands glowed purple for a minute or so.'

    Tarson Lonewolf says, 'You say her hands [glowed]?'

    You say, ' Yes, they glowed purple. Once she did that at all three, she walked back. At about the same point, she cleared the invisibility and then returned to her patrol of this area. The weirdest thing of all is when she got to the door. She did absolutely nothing but stare at it. But I swear that, out of the corner of my eye, almost out of sight, the door winked at her. But, no matter how long I looked, I could not find eyes or anything like that on the door. Nothing that makes the door unusual. It's just a door. I think I'm only being paranoid and the stress of following her made me imagine things.'

    Your task 'Power Corrupts' has been updated.

    Commander Yaminshavraylin is acting suspiciously, and something is very odd about the door.

    You receive 5 copper .
    You receive 2 silver .
    You receive 6 gold .
    You receive 265 platinum .

    You have gained 36 ability point(s)! You now have 78 ability point(s).

    Tarson Lonewolf says, 'That is disturbing. I'll be sure that this is looked into, but at this point, I don't have the power to gainsay her, and I don't wish for you to harm her. I would instead like for you to see Animist Khalan. Tell him about the door.'

    You have gained 18 ability point(s)! You now have 96 ability point(s).
    You have gained 1 mercenary ability point(s)! You now have 17 mercenary ability point(s).

    For those not wanting to add even more clutter to their maps and not confident in their map file to /waypoint translation skills on the fly:

    1= /way 1075, -1013, -50
    2= /way 832, -837, -50
    3= /way 1075, -638, -50
    4= /way 69, -775, -33
    5= /way -133, -1132, -28
    6= /way -412, -1129, -24
    7= /way 1151, -872, -50

    I did them in that order but you can probably start at 7 then work through 1-6 because 7 is actually very close to 1 and all the way across the zone from 6. I don't know how long the wait between 7 and 1 would be though and I had plenty of time to get from 6 to 7 before she got there.
    How to do this

    This mission is a pain if you don't know what you're doing.

    Commander Yaminshavraylin will cycle through 7 positions endlessly (whether or not you have the quest). Each time she stops, a check occurs to see if you are too close to her. If you are, you are "seen" and punted to Paludal Depths. If you are the right distance away, you will get an update. While she is walking it does not matter if you are too close - she can literally walk clean through you without problem. The best strategy is to move to spot 1, stay there until you get an update, then immediately move to position 2, then rinse and repeat.

    A few different sources have the wrong location #7. Also some of the locations happen to be in the right range for more than update - meaning you could technically stand there for 2 updates. This isn't as helpful as it sounds as you will lose track of which update is which. Each time you successfully get an update, she will give one of 7 emotes, correlating to which of the position updates you successfully completed. If you mess up, you can use these to figure which you need to repeat.

    Paste these to your map file (shadowhaventwo.txt):
    P 776.1183, -1208.5741, -102.6620, 0, 0, 127, 2, Commander_Yaminshavraylin_(start/end_here)
    P 1013.8750, -1075.6259, -49.2828, 0, 0, 127, 3, 1 (upstairs)
    P 837.0930, -832.2413, -50.8167, 0, 0, 127, 3, 2 (downstairs)
    P 638.7029, -1075.1732, -49.2800, 0, 0, 127, 3, 3 (upstairs)
    P 775.4451, -69.8325, -33.6870, 0, 0, 127, 3, 4
    P 975.5840, 50.1921, -29.6845, 0, 0, 127, 3, 5
    P 1132.1935, 133.9052, -28.8064, 0, 0, 127, 3, 6
    P 817.8580, -1107.8689, -101.2903, 0, 0, 0, 2, 7

    These are the emote for each location (credit to SORAIA on EQR):
    1 = The commander seems to be vigilant
    2 = The commander seems to be enjoying the view
    3 = The interaction between the commander and the banker is odd, but it could be a personal issue, so nothing is necessarily suspicious
    4 = You notice the commander's hands twitch a tiny amount
    5 = The pelt down the commander's spine ripples in a single wave downwards
    6 = Are the commander's hands glowing?
    7 = While you are studying Commander Yaminshavraylin you think you see something impossible. The door winked at her. You must be imagining things because you stare a while longer and it is nothing but a door. There is no eye on it anywhere. The stress of following the commander is getting to you.

    When seen: Commander Yaminshavraylin notices you following her and waves her hand in your direction. You feel yourself teleport.

    Stand at location (/loc in game) 1153.18, -873.34
    Animist Soren is down stairs, go up the stairs, make a right go up stairs.. make a right, on the left wall... stand.
    As you go up the second stairs, you see npc Incantator Lizerian. In the corner count 20 tiles to the right and /location. Stand there, when the npc comes back from roaming, it travels under you and you get the update.

    I got the update for 7 in the south east part of the zone
    I stayed behind the big rock a little north of the Mace pop location I followed her there and then stayed still behind the rock.

    For number 7 it seems you do have to follow the commander staying 100 or so away, if she is looking at you and you are close she will port you out.
    My group got the updates by following everywhere, if she comes at you hide until she passes but continue to stay the 100 away. When she stops stop and wait.
