You say, 'Hail, Tiam Khonsir'

Tiam Khonsir says 'Greetings, ______. Are you a follower of our order, the Deepwater Knights, servants of the Ocean Lord, Prexus?'

You say, 'Yes.'

Tiam Khonsir says 'That is good, ______. Our followers are few but our faith is strong. With the efforts of those few, our destiny may be reached in time. We must walk with perseverence and devotion, much like the tides that, over time, can destroy a mighty stone cliff. Have you [come to serve our Lord], ______?'

You say, 'I have come to serve our lord.'

Tiam Khonsir says 'Then I shall send you on a quest to prove your devotion. No doubt you have seen the vermin kobolds scuttling about the land as fleas upon a mangy dog. The kobolds have a lair on our continent from which they launch their wantonly destructive raids. You are to enter that lair and destroy as many of these dogs as you can. For each molar you bring me, you will receive praise, admiration, and perhaps some coin.'

Head to the Warrens and kill kobolds. Any kobold in the zone has a chance to drop a Kobold Molar. Return to Erudin and hand them in to Tiam.

Tiam Khonsir says 'Wonderful work, friend ______. One less land dwelling, flea ridden, primitive for our wondrous lord to sweep aside when the apocalypse is upon us. Here is your reward. Perhaps if you gather enough molars, we can offer you a [quest of greater importance].'

Go to the Warrens, bring with you 7 empty 10 slot bags (hand made back packs) and get 70 Kobold Molars, turn them in and then buy 220 zombie skins and turn them in and you will get very close to Ally faction. =) I am high elf pally and I went from Indifferent to Ally with 70 molars, and 220 zombie skins. You can get the skins in the bazaar. Things might be different for different races and such, but this worked perfectly for me =) Good luck all.

after 48 molars i am indiff without invis.

went to warrens, brought 50 molars with me back,

bah 50 more molars handed in, 148 molars in total will take you as a dwarf paladin from dubiously to warmly. Remeber tho that u need to open trade when dubious and have someone invis u before pushing trade.

There are two versions of this quest, one in Erudin, the other in Paineel. You gain faction with whomever you give the molars to, and lose it with the other.

Can the Kobold Molars be found in Toxulia Forest?
And if so, do the molars work with the quest still?

This would be really easy, so i don't have to pass through stupid paineel and necro that does 160dd damage spell.

It would helped if all of your responses are emailed to:

I have yet to see a molar drop in Toxxulia. But most of the time, you can get through Paineel without incident. Unless someone pulled one of the NPCs out of place. Straight out between the 2 skeleton guards in the newbie area, then turn right about 60 degrees after you've almost reached the hill in the middle, and you should be golden.
A different reward

I didn't see this one listed, so thought I would post it here. I turned in what must have been my 600th or so molar today to Tiam. I've been ally for a bit, but apparently today did the trick on making my faction as good as it could get. (Got the "Your faction could not possibly get any better" message.) When this happened, instead of getting a piece of ringmail, Tiam gave me "a gold tooth". It's lore and no-drop, weighs 0.1 and is Tiny, class all, race all. I haven't ever even heard of getting this. Anyone have any idea what it's for?

Hail, Tiam Khonsir

Greetings, Sliders. Are you a follower of our order, the Deepwater Knights, Servants of the Ocean Lord, Prexus ?

Yes

That is good, Sliders. Our followers are a few but our faith is strong. With the efforts of those few, our destiny may be reached in time. We must walk with perseverence and devotion, much like the tides that, over time, can destroy a mighty stone cliff. Have you [come to serve our Lord], Sliders ?

I have come to serve our lord

Then i shall send you on a quest to prove your devotion. No doubt you have seen the vermin Kobolds scuttling about the land as fleas upon a mangy dog. The kobolds have a lair on our continent from which they launch their wantonly destructive raids. You are to enter that lair and destroy as many of these dogs as you can. For each molar you bring me, you will recieve praise, admiration, and perhaps some coin.

As you give molars, the priest or paly says :

Wonderful work, friend Sliders. One less land dwelling, flea ridden, primitive for our wondrous lord to sweep aside when the apocalypse is upon us. Here is your reward. Perhaps if you gather enough molars, we can offer you a [quest of greater importance].
Your faction standing with Deepwater Knights could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with High Council of Erudin could not possibly get any better.
Your faction standing with Heretics got worse.
You gain Experience ! !

PS: this mob can be founded in its temple of Prexus, in the courtyard.

Elial Brooks can be found in Toxx forest. As you leave Erudin, head west to the water, then head south to a tiny dock. If you hit the river, you are too far south.

To get in good with either the Erudins or Heretics, you must kill 100 kobols. After you have done this then you can do their quests and gain the key to Paineel.

I am a 34 level Barbarian Warrior and I looted a Kobold Molar in Stonebrunt Mtns. off a high-green kobold right outside the zone entrance to Stonebrunt from The Warrens. Haven't turned it in to Tiam yet, but this could solve the problem for higher level characters getting faction from this quest.

After killing Kobolds in the Warrens for three levels with my half elf bard, I took the molars to Erudin. I turned in 22 molars, and each one gave the following faction hits:

DeepwaterKnights got better.
HighCouncilofErudin got better.
Heretics got worse.

Tiam was dubious to start with, but apprehensive after 6 molars. After 14 more, he was indifferent.

The faction hit with the Heretics is apparently not that big, because the guards in Paineel were dubious both before and after so many molars.

Also, I got about a bubble of experience at level eight, and got two pieces of ringmail that I was able to sell for about 2 plat each.

I am a Dwarven cleric and even after killing Kobolds for 2 levels Tiam is still dubious.

He will not give me the quest. What am I do to? Is there a faster way to raise faction with this guy so I can do the quest. I have many bags of molars in the bank that I would like to use.

Thanks.

If you can kill Elial Brook down by the dock, you will get good faction with the three Erudite int casters guilds, and also with the Erudite Paladins, down with Heretics. He is a six minute spawn and is always level 7. between 80 and 92 hps (two fire bolts will take him out). Hope this helps
RE: Faction
# Sep 04 2001 at 3:18 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to do the quest while he was still dubious. I don't remember completely, but I don't think he would talk to me to give me the quest. I gave him a molar anyway, and it worked.

Lately, I've been giving him molars four at a time, and I get faction and experience for each one (along with some coin and an occasional piece of ringmail).

I'm level 12 now -- Tiam is amiable, and the Paineel guards are still dubious.

# Jun 21 2001 at 3:39 PM Rating: Default
The guards near the newbie zone in Paineel has a very small aggro radius. Run through the middle of the entrance and you will have no problem.

My SK has been able to do this quest with Tiam w/o problem after killing Elial about 15 times (mostly in groups). She went from dubious to indifferent within that time which is quite amazing since I've done plenty of faction farming. The Heretics were apprehensive after the 15 kills but that easily fixed to amiable after more time in the Warrens. So, you do NOT have to be amiable to do this quest.

The guards are an oddity all to themselves. They are not like any other mob I have found. First of all they will con light blue to a 15. but 3 hits will kill you. I stood there, throwing my daggers at them, and they did not come after me. I also, however, did not gain skill. Its as if they are perma-rooted like the nexus scion. Now, if a rat or bat gets close enough they will move from there spot, and in turn if you are near that rat or bat, they will kill you. if you come within melee range at their post and attack, they will leave their post to kill you.

In a weird way its like they are part of the wall, or part of the zone. Only broken free by certain things or triggers. Sneak and hide does work on them. I had a sow, but I ran straight out between the 2 ever so slightly askew to the right to avoid the necro guy. I guess thats what he is.

There are very few mobs in the game that are perma rooted, but they seem to be so but CAN move.

First post, so bear with me...

These skellies con LB to a lvl 15?!? I was a 49 pal and was killing the necro for faction with deepwater (real easy, 4 hits and he goes away), when I noticed the skelly guards conned green to me. I decided to kill them because they were scowling at me. At level 49, with Virtue and KEI (about 3300 HP 1110 or so AC, about 50% haste with a comparable weapon and shield, AND using Dismiss undead and Instrument of Nife, which proc'ed about 5 times), I was down to 30% health from this guy, and I never got him below 90%. I ran inside the tunnel, he didn't follow and didn't attack when I went back out and tried it again. I used cancel magic on him the 2nd attempt, to no avail. No idea what the deal is, but he is not one to play with and I am glad he stays put.

I killed one of these Paineel newbie guards with my level 57 necro the other day, and it was quite challenging for such a green MOB. They have a good regen rate and are highly magic-resistant. I used my level 56 pet, along with splurt which always stuck, and vexing mordinia and deflux which resisted about half the time. I think it was hitting for 130 or so, I had to tank for my pet quite a lot. I had a virtue and burned most of my mana to kill it. I would have failed except that it ran at 50%, ping-ponging back and forth between its spawnpoint and a place on the far side of the newbie area, and my pet beat it down from behind. It took a few minutes for the entire fight, about 3 cycles of splurt.

If you need this faction increase more quickly, what works for me is to kill the guards inside of Paineel. Your mileage may vary. Since I am lvl 57 and max ally with heretics I can kill most of them without any adds. It's easy to repair the heretic faction afterwards by cleaning out the warrens for a few minutes.

Is there anyway of stopping the skeleton guards at the entrance to the newbie area of paineel attacking you, will the faction hit for the darkside make these guys like you. Also what level is the necro in this area as he hit me with a 175 dd poison bolt.
RE: balancing factions
# Jun 21 2001 at 2:37 PM Rating: Default
I'm a Lv 8 Bard and I've found that with Selo's on and your hand drum, getting past those guards is no problem. So the key to the problem would be a need for speed. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.
RE: balancing factions
# Jul 11 2001 at 8:16 PM Rating: Default
Invis to undead works well against the guards. Get a higher level to help you get past the guards and Azzar Habbib, and then kill as many kobalds as you can. They all give Heretic faction, so eventually you won't be kos in Paineel anymore. Good luck! =)

Well, i have ran past the guards several times with the druid's camo spell active and haven't been attacked by them. I know that skeles can see through camo (not sure about these guards), but camo also raised my faction with them from them scowling at me to either indifferent or dubious. If the guards can see through camo, then i guess it's the faction boost that stops them from attacking.

As far as getting my faction up with these guys, I have been hunting in warrens for 2 days now (and 2 lvls) and they still scowl at me. But I've also turned in about 40-50 molars which isn't helping me out any.
not bad!

After stocking up on a bunch of molars by killing Runts and Guards, i was able to go back and do the quest about 15 times. The FIRST time i got a ringmail mantle! After that I only got some decent gold and nice exp (at level 6). I'm going back for another run today... now only if Halflings could wear that ringmail :(

The other adavantage of doing this quest as an erudite paladin or cleric of Prexus is that once you have given him several molars (I think 4 or so but I'm not sure) he directs you to go to Breya (who is located upstairs in the guild) for a more advanced quest.

Tell her that Tiam sent you and she gives you the midnight sea mail leggings quest. The reward for which is a great erudite Pal/Cleric only set of cool looking leggings.

It took my human bard about 4 full packs of molars before he would send me to Breya. I don't know if it's worth it because apparently they are cleric/paladin only, but I do happen to have a Lv 14 dwarf cleric camped right there in Erudin, and if I should be able to score these fine leggings, it'll be a fine day for little ole Balderoc. Wish me luck.

I am an Erudin Necro, and after killing many Kobalds, I had saved up around 60 teeth. I went to Erudin, and conned the guards, and I was amniable, that surprized me.

I then went to turn in the teeth, and was Dubius. I gave him 1 tooth, and he kept it, no reward. I then handed him another but did not press trade yet. I then had my friend cast inv on me. Then I pressed trade and the quest worked. So if you have someone willing to cast invis on you over and over you can turn in the teeth, even if you are dub to him.

Turning in 60 teeth did not improve my faction with him enough to do it by myself yet.

Thanks,
David
