After finishing the first three quests, ask Loremaster Borannin 'What is brewing?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh yes, good to see you again Maeve . I wish it were under better circumstances that we meet today. For some time now we have sent teams of our finest rogues to gather intelligence for the Dain. Tanik Greskil is one of our best. He was recently sent into the heart of Kael Drakkel on a very important mission and has not returned. He is now long overdue, and fearing the worst, our wise council has asked me to dispatch a rescue party to determine what has become of him and return him to safety. I have decided to give you this opportunity to build upon the trust you have earned from the council. Will you accept this mission?'

You say, 'I will accept this mission'

Loremaster Borannin says 'The council will be pleased to hear of your acceptance. Scour the regions surrounding the city of the Giants. Discover what happened to Tanik and, if possible, return him to Thurgadin. If you are successful, remember to hand me your woven shawl. We seem to be running low on them, but I must say Mordin has never had so much help in the kitchen. Anyway, I will eagerly await word of your findings. Good luck, and may Brell protect you.'

If you wander around the Eastern Wastes near NEG 6644 POS 4337 you will eventually see a message "the snow crumbles away revealing an injured coldain." This reveals Tanik Greskil.

You say, 'Hail, Tanik Greskil'

Tanik Greskil says 'Outlander! Thank Brell you've found me! I am the last surviving member of my unit. Our mission was somehow compromised, the bloody Kromrif knew just where to find us... I can't imagine how they knew. I was barely able to escape with my life and wandered into a trap here. I am badly hurt and need your help.'

You say, 'I will help'

Tanik Greskil says 'Quickly, give me a vial of Veluim Vapors so I can return home, I am in desperate need of some attention from our clerics.'

You say, 'What are velium vapors?'

Tanik Greskil says 'Drat! Are you telling me you don't have one with you? Run back to Thurgadin at once and speak with Frundle, she can make you one. I will do what I can to stay alive. I may need to move about a bit to keep from being discovered. Hurry now outlander, you're my only hope.'

Once back in Thurgadin, find Frundle.

You say, 'Hail, Frundle Frenklar'

You say, 'What velium vapors?'

Frundle Frenklar says 'Ahh, you come seeking my family recipe? After all you've done for our people it's the least I can do. First you must fashion a velium vial, then combine the vial with two small pieces of velium in this jar. That's all there is to it. Please keep the recipe a secret.'

You say, 'What velium vial?'

Frundle Frenklar says 'I'm no potter mind you, but if I remember correctly it's a small brick of velium, three crystalline silks, and two glass shards. Then you'll have to finish up by firing it in a kiln with a high quality firing sheet.'

You receive a Velium Purifier.

Small Pieces of Velium and Small Blocks of Velium can be looted on Ry`Gorr Miners in Crystal Caverns or off spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth.

Crystalline Silk can be found on spiders in both zones.

1) Combine a small (7 lb) brick of velium, three unstacked crystalline silks and two glass shards in a pottery wheel. You will receive an Unfired Velium Vial.

2) Combine the Unfired Velium Vial and a HQ firing sheet in the kiln and receive a Velium Vial.

3) Combine the Velium Vial and two unstacked small pieces of Velium in the Velium purifier. The Velium Purifier disappears and you are left with a Vial of Velium Vapors. The vial is a lore item and has one charge of gate to Thurgadin.

The vial is trivial at skill 122.

Do not camp the spot where Tanik Greskil is, because I did it, and got a message: You have been ambushed by frost giants! And two Kromrif Death Squad will spawn, and try to kill you.

When you get Tanik Greskil to spawn again, just hand him the vial.

Tanik Greskil says 'Thank you. I shall be eternally grateful to you. Should you ever require my assistance I pledge to you my aid. Please deliver this to Borannin, it is imperative that he deliver this to the Dain at once. Farewell for now outlander...'

You gain experience!!

Then head back to Thurgadin and hand Boradinn the note and your old shawl, for the new shawl.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Words cannot express our gratitude for your deeds outlander, you have saved a hero of our people from certain death. Please accept this, the Fur-lined shawl, as a token of our sincere appreciation. You are indeed among the most highly regarded Humans to set foot in Thurgadin. The next time we meet be sure to ask me how to further advance your reputation with the coldain.'

I got the potion elsewhere...

My guild took down the new cazic thule in fear 2 nights ago and he dropped 2 of these thurgadin gate potions... bug maybe? Seems kind of strange for them to drop there especially when they're so easy to make.

1 - You can get the crystline silk from Vek's Lab as well as from Crystal Cavs.
2 - The vial is trivial with a 122 pottery skill level(ie. trivial medium bowls) but like anything you can fail! (I did once) So I would suggest getting 2 sets of supplies and save yourself another run to CC/VL
3 - You can find Frundle Frenkler at the second, unmarked, building across from the Paladin's guild. (between The Holy Harbinger and Garash's Boots)
4 - He does NOT just spawn at night. I found him at 3pm.
5 - He might spawn in slightly differnet locations. I found him at n6293,p4388

I love this series of quests... This one is much easier then the baking one. And yes like many other people I fell for the red herring and I made myself a master brewer.

I was already a master brewer with a skill at about 168 as I recall, so I was ready. The good news is that you can raise your pottery skill to the needed level in just a few hours.

Oh, and think about this -- so far we've used baking and pottery, with perhaps a bit of smithing as well depending on how you acquired your cooking gear for the third quest. We may still see brewing as well as some significant tailoring and serious smithing in the rest of the quests in this series. Keep in mind that this is the caster's version of the Garadain's rings series of quests out in Eastern Wastes and that series has 8 parts so far. We're only up to 4.

:)

Imagine a shoulder slot item with AC 8, 8 wis, 8 int, and +8 save versus cold. Not too bad for a Vox run, eh?

:)

Heh, I love these quests too. But keep in mind that here you run the risk of near instant death if you are ambushed. So potentially this is an easier quest but if you get ambushed you could very likely end up dead. The third quest was just time consuming and with 2 ranger friends to track griffins for me, it was a piece of cake.

Just a warning to the unwary.

Bleah, checked him right after patch.. ranger found the guy.. got the stuff, failed. Gotta get more. Funny thing is I was competing with the same 4 or 5 druids EVERY STEP OF THE WAY, while trying to get ores, then silks, then at the potter's wheel in thurg (I went to rivervale insteadl ; ) )

A guy told me thing to do is make a small bowl to over 100 or something.

When other people are not trying to do the quest its easy to stock up on this stuff. I got 3 silks off one spider now, they drop a lot more.

What about brewing indeed though.. Funny thing is when he said "brewing " before they added this.. I figured "wow cool, since my brewing is 145 already!" Then they spring pottery on me for brewing.. ahahah.

It looks like it's trivial between 121 and 130, if I remember from eqtraders.

Well, there's whatever the Avalanche Ale will turn out to be for...

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 15 2001 at 10:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, here's EXACTLY where to find Tanik. Tanik tends to show up at night in the valley to Kael Drakkel just outside the gate guarded by the kromriff guardsmen. He will show up outside the aggro range, so you can approach him safely.
whoah... my druid is going to make money selling potions too

Oops disregard. I'm a moron.

I just realized that of course the potion you make is no drop.. AHAHHAHAHA
But of course any tank with the materials and pottery skill bound in thurg could continuously make and use these potions himself (them being lore of course having to use before he makes another) as a way to gate out of danger or from the planes or what not.

omg.. I wonder if that is intentional from verant? Cause once I build pottery it will be trivial for me to stock up and make one of these potions at a time then sell them, gate back get the thing and make another, etc.
I need the silks and small pieces of ore for tailoring anyway.

With shaman gate potions going for 1 k, this would have some market with non gaters.

Potion is nodrop. You have to make them yourself.
Where to find Tanik & about the potion you give him

Ok, here's EXACTLY where to find Tanik. Tanik tends to show up at night in the valley to Kael Drakkel just outside the gate guarded by the kromriff guardsmen. He will show up outside the aggro range, so you can approach him safely.

Now, the potion you give him will gate him back to Thurgadin and make him depop, so only one person can do it. Also, the potion IS usable by players and will take you to the bridge in Thurgadin. Hope it helps.

wow!

Is it me, or does this seem to be a lot easier than the feed the coldain quest?

The hardest part may be if you have a low pottery skill, as I'm betting the items are nodrop after they are made.
