To Royal Guard Sheltuin, you say, 'I wish an audience with the Overlord'

Royal Guard Sheltuin says 'The Overlord is not seeing anyone at this time, however I may have work for you. You seem to have some experience with the Kobold annoyance in the region. Are you [interested] Salamar ?

You say, 'I am interested.'

Royal Guard Sheltuin says 'Then I shall give you a task. I assume you are aware of the Kobold lair near by. Many of our adventurous knights and priests crusade to destroy those pests so seeing many Erudites frequent the area is normal. However it is not normal to see someone carry large crates into the lair and return empty handed. This person's movements also show he is attempting to remain unseen.....the [fool].

You say, 'What fool?'

Royal Guard Sheltuin says 'Whoever it is, obviously is not an Erudite, even though he appears to be. Only an outsider would take us to be such idiots as to fall for their pitiful attempt at disquise. Or perhaps .... well, nevermind that. I want you to enter the Kobold lair and find these crates. Return one to me and we'll decide what to do from there.

The Large Empty Crate is found on Smithy Rrarrgin in the Warrens (it doesn't always drop). Reward for turning in the crate to Sheltuin is experience.

Royal Guard Sheltuin says "Hmmm. Very odd. The dust in the crate implies some sort of stone was transported in it. Perhaps our brothers of the Arcane will be able to find out where this dust came from and what it's used for. Take this dust sample and note to Keletha Nightweaver. She will examine the dust and send you back with a report. Make haste."

Royal Guard Sheltuin gives you experience and a "note with dust sample" to take to Keletha.

Keletha Nightweaver takes the note, dumps the dust into her hand and examines it for a moment. She looks up and chuckles, then says, "It's amuzing how one of our Royal Guards cannot identify this substance. Do you feel how it's slightly cooler than other metals? It's called Permafrost Iron, also known as Cold Iron to laymen. Miragul wrote of it's properties in his memoirs. There are much better metals at our disposal now, so it's use is rare except in more primitive cultures. Here is my report."

Keletha gives you experience and a note to take back to Sheltuin.

Royal Guard Sheltuin 's eyes redden with intense anger after reading the report. When he speaks, his voice is suprisingly calm and measured. He says, 'Listen close Erudite. When you leave this building, you will find the courier who is bringing the ore. You will kill him, and collect his head and a box of the ore. You will then find the supplier, and collect his head and any other information you find on him. Bring me these four things and you will be rewarded. Do not fail.

You get experience for handing in the report/note to Sheltuin. Head over to Qeynos Hills and seek out the Erudite Courier by the lake. If you kill him, he drops a head and a note that leads you to Eichvul, a dark elf in a tower in Everforst near the entrance to Permafrost. Killing Eichvul gets you another head and note. Turn in all four items to get your reward.

Royal Guard Sheltuin says 'Is this it? I asked for the head of the courier, the head of the supplier, a full box of ore, and evidence from the supplier. Do not return until you have all of these!'

Royal Guard Sheltuin says 'Honestly, ______, I thought you would not return. Such strength and intelligence in a Knight of Fear I have not seen for quite some time. Wear this armor in pride of the ancient Ridossan. Perhaps when you are ready, I will give you a more important task. This conspiracy must be stopped.'

After you do that quest you can assist him more by saying "I will be that knight" he then gives you a box and tells you to meet up with Lyris Moonbane under Qeynos and to help her

I killed the Erudite Traveler the other night and he was blue to my level 20 druid. I was able to kill him pretty easily.

I haven't checked out Eichvul yet, but the erudite traveller is a level 20 enchanter with a level 17 pet.
First part can be skipped
# Mar 19 2001 at 4:34 AM Rating: Decent
Did the quest yesterday but I started from the Erudite traveller. Killed him then headed out to Everfrost to get the suppliers head. Killed him, headed back to Paineel and handed the bits in and recieved the leggings. Didnt need to do the first part with the Crates from the Smithy.

Well, some cold iron piece of armor seems to drop from the King Kobold himself. Today i stepped in the Throne room, willing to offer some newbie friend, bronze katana and green leather which seem to drop more frequently from elder packs. As i was 45 i didnt expect any good loot from the named kobold and wanted the king to be fighted by low group but since i have killed many kobolds to raise faction, king aggroed me. Pet killed him easily and he dropped a cold iron gauntlet which is nothing special except it is ac9, save magic +1 and icon looks like plate. I am not sure it is related with quest, but kobolds seems to be linked with those. Maybe their cultural armor ? ;)
Well???

Okay...finally did the quest! First you must kill the Erudite courier in Qeynos Hills..he gives you a head, box of ore and a note. The note leads you to Eichvul, a dark elf in a tower near the entrance to Permafrost in Everfrost. As you kill him, a goblin lackey and goblin miner will spawn. Kill Eichvul and he will drop his head and a note. Take the note, both heads, and the crate of ore to Guard Sheltuin. For the reward he gave me the Leggings of Riddosan: 9ac +2Agi +10mana +2vs fire +1vs mana weight 4.2...erudite sk only. *sigh* i'm a necro and the leggings are no drop...hope you enjoy!
RE: Did the quest!
# Mar 16 2001 at 5:10 AM Rating: Decent
I did the quest too! Got the same leggings as well. Im an Erudite SK though, so at least i can use them. The whole point of the quest though, was to be able to talk to the overlord. But when i handed all four items in he just gave me the pants and said something about me coming back when i am more experienced. Im lv 26. When i was killing the second guy, he mentioned a "house X'Lottl, anyone know of a DE group that goes by this name? Im going to try this quest a second time and see what happens. wish me luck.
X'Lottl
# Mar 16 2001 at 7:36 PM Rating: Default
I believe that is one of the Houses in Neriak's 3rd gate (not 100% familiar with the town, i think thats where it is). And by House i mean family, not a building. Might be worth a try to check there, maybe there's more to it...
RE: X'Lottl
# Mar 18 2001 at 3:43 AM Rating: Default
Actually it's both. There are 2 level 40 wizards by that name and also a level 15 dancer in the Maiden's Fancy. And out in Nektulous is a Dragoon X`Lottl. At the very back of the Third Gate is a lake with two private estates (two story houses basically--they aren't that sprawling). One is the J`Narus private mansion, and the other is the X`Lottl private mansion.

There's a few Guards and Dragoons in Nektulos Forest (And I think in Neriak) That are X'Lottl's...about 5-6 I think...

RE: Courier and Supplier Found
# Mar 15 2001 at 2:10 PM Rating: Default
The courier is the Erudite Traveller in Qeynos Hills and the supplier is Eichvul in Everfrost Peaks at the tower north of the Permafrost entrance. Ok what's next?
RE: Courier and Supplier Found
# Mar 15 2001 at 4:22 PM Rating: Default
What's next you ask? Isn't it obvious? Kill the traveller and Eichvul, get the 2 heads, note, and crate they drop, and bring the items to Royal Guard Sheltuin. Then, send and E-Mail to Allakhazam with the details missing from the quest description.
could it be habib?

could the courier be habib. I believe a new char in the newbie zone?

Azzar Habib is unrelated, he's a normal Paineel mob. Usually he is found in the observatory over the gate to the newbie yard; somebody must have run by and agroed him, and he remained there afterwards.
Odd Cold Iron Medallion
# Mar 15 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
I picked up an Odd Cold Iron Medallion (or Necklace) from the named High Shaman who spawns with the King. Maybe used for this quest....Its Lore, No-Drop.

Doesn't sound unlikely.
Just a thought
# Mar 15 2001 at 10:57 AM Rating: Default
I always admire an individual's ability to look past what the man giving the quest is saying. He says "When you leave this building." He doesn't say "Somewhere far off" or anything to that affect. Therefore, it's VERY safe to assume that the courier spawns either when you do the beginning parts of the quest, or has already spawned, and that it is somewhere close to the Royal Guard.

But then, maybe that would make too much sense.

Check Rogues?
# Mar 15 2001 at 10:53 AM Rating: Decent
An Erudite in appearance only, trying to remain hidden... There is an illusion Mask for Bard/Rogues in game that has an Erudite illusion, sounds like you are looking for a NPC from the rogue guild either in Halas or Qeynos. Since it appears the supplier has been found in Everfrost, and Paineel faction should work in Qeynos sewers (not sure on this, but it seems logical) that's where I would look. One question, does the DE mask let a rogue into Paineel or are they a completely separate evil city? If it works. maybe this quest could be done by the many L20-30 rogues with their Guise.
RE: Check Rogues?
# Mar 17 2001 at 2:05 PM Rating: Default
A few answers;

Dark elves are KOS in Paineel anyway. As far as I can tell, the only thing not KOS in Paineel is a Heretic, unless you've been working on faction.

An Erudite Heretic (Necro/SK) is allowed into the sewers... But this is because as an Erudite Necro/SK, they start with a high Bloodsabers faction anyway. Raising your Heretic faction won't help in the sewers; They're on the Bloodsabers.
warren level
# Mar 15 2001 at 7:37 AM Rating: Default
warrens is level rated 5 to 35 far from being a newbie zone. erud already has that in tox the warrens is an extension to tox so erudians dont have to leave for bb at level 5 and higher. the warrens ois a low to mid level dungeon.a level 20 quest is appropiate for the area and probabbly geared to get those twenties out into qeynos. the quest shows a lot of forethought on verants part. The warrens will be watched very closely as medium from the test server to going live acrooss the bored this should cut down on downtimes to fix patches implemented across the system. Its nice to see verant doing something right.by the way what level is the npc who drops the empty crate?
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 15 2001 at 2:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) What the crap are you people talking about? The Warrens are a newbie zone...i don't think a quest is going to require a level 20 character to trapse to Permafrost or Lower Guk to try to kill something, that would just be insane...
RE: Wtc?
# Mar 15 2001 at 7:56 AM Rating: Decent
The warrens is for levels 5 to 35, making it roughly the same difficulty as Runnyeye.

There's certainly room for quests that start in or around the Warrens to require killing level 20 monsters, as those are right smack in the middle of the level range the Warrens supports.

I've had him con even at 14. It appears that the Foodmaster spawns level 12-13, and the Smith spawns 14-15.
erudite traveller
# Mar 15 2001 at 1:43 AM Rating: Default
I just killed the erudite traveller and his pet (level 20 enchanter) in Qeynos Hills, at the lake where Hadden spawns. Got the head, note, and crate.
Supplier
# Mar 15 2001 at 1:33 AM Rating: Default
Actually, I'm not sure if it was the supplier or courier, because I hadn't heard of the quest till just now. I was at the south end of the lake in the Qeynos Hills with a friend and we saw a new spawn called an erudite traveller. He was a chanter, and my friend killed him. He dropped a crate and a note, may have dropped a head, I didn't check. I couldn't read the note because my friend looted it and it was no drop. But there's one of them for ya.

Doing a search of existing "courier"s in Illia's, there are only 2 entries that come up. A Sarnak Courier in the Lake of Ill Omen and a Spectral Courier in the City of Mist. Sheltuin did say that they at least looked like an Erudite though....
Sounds like a job for a Ranger
# Mar 14 2001 at 7:08 PM Rating: Default
Looks like we need a Ranger to scout around the area for any new mobs that might be wandering around. I'm definately not the one though - I've been trying to track down that orc runner in the Butcherblocks for the past three levels and haven't even seen a hint of him.

The Orc Runner is a night spawn between the GF/BB zone and runs to the Crossroad (where the road fork split to DC and Kala.) he also has PH between 8pm and 8am.
Cold Iron Quest
# Mar 14 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Default
Just a thought The Ice Goblin Preacher in Permafrost drops a cold-iron morningstar only other reference to cold iron I have seen.

They (the ice goblins) definitely qualify as a primitive culture. Plus Keletha refers to the dust as Permafrost Iron, so I would say looking for the courier and supplier in Permafrost or Everfrost Peaks would be a first step to completeing this quest.
RE: Cold Iron Quest
# Mar 14 2001 at 10:20 PM Rating: Default
This is very possibly so, considering its called permafrost iron as well, but there is no known supplier and courier in Permafrost. Could there be a new spawn we dont know about? Also there could be an ice goblin courier or supplier in the Warrens or the courier and supplier may not be ice goblins and its all a coincidence, so check for non ice goblins as well. He says after u leave this building u will find the courier and supplier etc... Maybe they are in the city or just outside the city. We should all jsut take a little time to just check the possibilities
RE: Cold Iron Quest
# Mar 15 2001 at 1:59 PM Rating: Default
Eureka! Yes there is a new spawn in Everfrost related to this quest! A Dark Elf by the name of Eichvul is now located in the tower just North of the Permafrost entrance. He says nothing when you hail him. He cons high blue to a 29th level warrior. He is a caster I believe cleric.

When you attack Eichvul a goblin supplier and goblin courier spawn in the tower as well, both are green to a 29th level warrior. The supplier is a caster and will buff and heal Eichvul.

I was able to kill all 3 once and died once. When you loot Eichvul you receive his head and a sealed note. When I looted the goblins they had nothing but a small amount of cash.

Did not see what the faction hits were. Eichvul does say something when you first attack him. "How dare you attack a member of the X'lottl Family!"

Thanks Verant for giving us Barbs some payback for the dark elves who hunt the Barbs in WK and Everfrost!
