Royal Guard Lilkus says 'There are many campaigns we administer from within our city, Paineel. Some of these campaigns are threatened or hindered by annoyances. Thus I would avoid this quest if you care about faction and turn in molars in Eruidin instead. The only faction this raises can be easily maxed by killing in Warrens. The Erudin version gives other faction increases that are hard to get.

Besides faction...
# May 13 2006 at 7:19 AM Rating: Decent
Besides doing this or the Erudin version of the quest for faction, it is very significant to note that this is also an excellent way to get ringmail items. Ringmail is needed for spell research practice runes https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/recipe.html?recipe=5456 .This stuff is hard to find otherwise...FYI

it raised my royal guard faction AND heretic faction by killing kobolds in warrens . prhaps i misunderstood factions but erudin and heretic are opposing factions right?why is it raising both?
RE: faction
# Sep 28 2005 at 6:32 PM Rating: Decent
Kobolds are a common enemy of erudin and paineel. that's why you get +faction in both cities for killing them.

Raising faction with Heretics may no longer be enough to get into Paineel. There is now a dark elf NPC inside who will KOS you if you do not appease whatever the heck faction he is on before you go inside. I do not know if he passes through the teleporter that is between the Fell Blade and Sinfully Handsome or if he has 2 respawn points and randomly pops on one side of the teleporter or the other once he is killed, but I have been killed by him in the area down the stairs after you enter the city, and saw him standing in the area on the other side of the teleporter in the place where the table and chairs are outside Sinfully Handsome.

Um, Jerith IS on Heretics faction. I've been fighting in the Warrens with my 36 DE SK for a day or two now, and watched my Heretic faction go from Threatening to Dubious the firstr time, and managed to hide out in front of the door until an unsuspecting noob let me in... I did the kobold molar quest (which, by the way, doesn't work at dubious faction unless you hide yourself or get invizzed) and now have apprehensive faction. Jerith was dubious (like everyone else) when I came in, and was apprehensive when I left. I did the whole cycle again and got to indifferent with all the guards/merchants/etc., and Jerith cons indifferent too. Also, indifferent is no longer enough to get you a key... The two guards just inside the lift and the two guards at the zone entrance all tell me I must "prove my dedication to their cause before we will discuss such things." Argh. One more run on the Warrens, I guess.

As has been explained quite well in other posts below, you do need to get to Indifferent faction with Heretic (the faction that all of Paineel is on, including the guards) in order to get a key to Paineel from the guards in the newbie area.

Also, it is true that you need apprehensive or higher faction with Heretic in order to be able to turn in molars to Royal Guard Lilkus.

Some posts here seem to be frustrated at the number of kobolds needed to be killed in order to rise up a notch on the /con scale. One person in particular mentioned that after killing 20 kobolds, they went from 'threateningly' to 'dubious', then killed hundreds and didn't budge from 'dubious'. Here's how faction hits work:

500 faction hits moves you up (or down, if you're doing things that lowers your faction) ONE notch on the /con scale... from 'scowls at' to 'threateningly' to 'dubious' to 'apprehensive' to 'indifferent' to 'kindly' to 'amiably' to 'ally'.

Now, if you happen to be in the high end of a given range, you may need to only kill a few mobs to ratchet up to the next notch. But, from there, you need 500 adjustments to get to the next level.

With this said, some mobs give more equivalent faction hits than others. For example, killing the named kobolds in the Warrens (e.g., King Gragnar, High Shaman Drogik, Huntmaster Furgrl, etc.) gives you more positive faction with Heritics each time you kill them than it does when you kill "normal" kobolds. Exactly how much more, I do not know.

In any event, yes.... it can be slow and arduous. But, if you're like me and have need to access a given city, it's well worth it in the long run. At least Paineel gives you a quick way to increase your faction with Heretic once you get inside and get to at least Apprehensive status (i.e., the Kobold Molars quest).

Happy hunting.

My human paladin of Mithaniel Marr started with his Heretics faction bottomed out ("could not possibly get any worse") before I decided to work on gaining access to Paineel. I logged the process of fixing the faction in order to determine how many kobolds I'd killed to gain access to the city. To go from the bottom of "scowling" up to "amiable" (the point at which I was able to get a key) took just over 4000 kobold kills (those being a mixture of Warrens kobolds, both named and unnamed, and Stonebrunt kobolds). After getting to amiable, I was able to max out the faction (max happens to be "warmly" for my particular race/class combination) with another 500 or so kobold kills (again, a mixture of named an unnamed kills in Warrens and Stonebrunt).

Hello ALL,

I have recently started a SK on FV (role-playing) server. This quest is easy and nice as after my 10th molar hand in I got a nice piece of ringmail armor. On this server for a level 6 character that was a pretty nice surprise. Also gives exp through level 7...If you want a server where their aren't many twinks come on over to FV

The ringmail reward is given out after the 10th molar EVERY time for both the good (Erudin) and evil (Paineel) versions of this quest. Each piece can be sold to vendors for a couple platinum or provides decent protection, for those that can wear it.

I'm still getting 1% XP per dozen or so molars that I hand in as 29th enchanter. Fun and easy way to earn faction and money.

Easy way to gain Heretic faction, easy way to blow your Erudin faction. The quests in Erudin and Paineel seem to be factioned out in such a way that completing a quest in one city raises your faction in that city, but lowers it in the other and vice-versa. Complete enough quests in one, and you'll be KOS in the other before you know it no matter how many kobolds you kill. These quests (Kobold Molars, good and evil) are basically the Erudite equivalent to the Gnoll Fangs quest in Qeynos where turning in the fangs raises your light factions, but screws your dark ones.

Yes, but it is incredibly easy to re-raise your heretic faction (the faction lowered doing the "good" turnin) while gathering up molars. if you can do the "good" version, I recommend it, so you will be accepted in both cities
Easy, but long

Ok...this is how i got from scowling to amiably with all my characters. First go slaughter kobalds in the warrens untill you are dubious. (Note: killing the named mobs in the Warrens helps a lot.) Then when i was dubious i kill the Cave Bat Lord...found going towars Sonbrunt (i think). If he drop the hat called Azzar's Dreadful Hat go turn it into Azzar. He is found in the tower above the 2 noob garden guards. Rinse and repeat till you are apprehensive. Then have someone let you into the city and go find Lilkus. Turn in a lot of molars to him and your amiably in no time. I had about 8, 10 slot boxes of molars, and i was amiably in no time.

Lilkus is in Darkglow Palace, through the third portal thingy. It took me a bit to find him as well.

Enter the building from either side, and instead of going in the door right in front of you, there's one immediately to the left (if you came in from the left; if you came in from the right, it's on the right). Open it and go up the stairs, to some double doors on the south wall. Lilkus is standing on a balcony type thing overlooking the bottom floor of the palace.

This is a damn good quest if you really need the evil faction (though i cant see why you would), in one day i went from glareing to regarded as an ally, of course i killed my share of kobolds, somewhere int he area of 250+, and i turned in around 150 molars, so if you want the heretics to love you, do it, but if you dont, STAY AWAY LIKE THE PLAGUE

Could I just cast invis on myself and hand him the Molars instead of having a friend do it? If so, couldn't I just get a newbie to open the door while im threatening and cast invis and hand them in by the back pack full to get my faction up?

Nope. Invis drops when you initiate a trade, so at threatening, you'll be killed when you begin the trade.

You can do this quest at apprehensive and it is a huge faction boost. If you have someone let you into paineel and bring a friend that can cast invis on you you can do this quest as soon as you hit dubious.
Hand in 4 molars but do not hit trade. Get invis cast on you do /con to verify faction is now indiff. complete the trade.
Doing this shaves a huge amount of time off killing in the warrens. 4 hours from just barely Kos to kindly approaching ally. You can also kill guards in Erudin near the docks for paineel faction.

I noticed there is a teleport pad in the bottom of the pit which leads into Paneel. Id like to ask someone with levetate or involnerability that cant get the key to try and jump. There appears to be water on one side, maybe we could land in that and not get killed.
Please post results ASAP.

I have not been able to try levitating, nor any form of invulnerability, but I have made attempts to leap to the water you speak of. (I took a chance, I was bound nearby and low enough level that I couldn't lose anything.) Unfortunately, it appears to be a deathtrap for anyone without protection. SOW might help, but I found that I always fell short of the water and landed on rocks, or wound up falling into 'The Hole'
RE: Teleport pad

Doesn't matter where you jump in, you land in the same place every time. As for levitate, it cannot be cast in the hole and cancels when you zone in.

Cleric spell "Divine Aura" does work, have known guilds that would send the cleric down (w/ DA cast) and the rest of the guild jumps to their death to have the cleric res stick'em. Saves time.
Faction and Keys
# Mar 19 2002 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
Iksar SK - started out as scowling with the guards in the Paineel newbie area and the guards outside Erudin. Am now kindly with the Paineel guards and dubious with Erudin guards. Got my Paineel key from the newbie area guards at amiable - just hail and say "I need keyz".

I will continue killing in the warrens until I am ally w/ Heretics. Then will kill Elial Brooks until I am indiff in Erudin.

So far I've spent 5 days, 3 hours a day killing Kobolds in the Warrens.
geting inside Panieel
# Feb 15 2002 at 8:35 AM Rating: Default
If you are not native to Panieel, but wish to gain enterance to do some of the quests and such there is a way to gain the key.
First proceed to the Warrens and kill 100 kobols, then go to the enterance to tunnel ( mouth in newbie area ). Hail the skeleton guard there ( facing tunnel the skele on the right ). He talks about 'keyz' to Panieel. Tell him you lost your 'keyz' ( spell it with the z ) and he will give you one.
My sister used to have a DE SK awhile back, and that is what someone told her to do.

Hope this helps. =)

Sounds like it's probably the right idea, except replace 100 kobolds with closer to 1000. As a Troll Shadow Knight, I've killed over 600 of the buggers (give or take some change) and got my faction up from threatening to apprehensive, but still can't get the key quest from the guard... and all I want to do is buy a key to the Hole. Yes, I know you can wiggle your way through, but Trolls are big, and we no fit so well through small spaces. But then again, what do I know, I'm just a dumb Troll.

I'm pretty sure you can just have a newbie erudite get the key for you, since it's not no drop. Tell the newbie to hail and ask for keys and give you the key (lore but not no drop). If you offer to kill the guards and let the newbie have the items it drops as a reward, they will gladly do it. thats about 7-8pp per guard.
How many?
# Jan 19 2002 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
Can you turn in 4 molars at one time to get 4 faction hits, or is it just one at a time? How do I get inside Paineel if I am not an Erudite, I am dark elf with dubious faction with the Heretics right now. Thanx for any reply
RE: How many?
# Jan 20 2002 at 5:44 AM Rating: Decent
The only way you'll get in or out until your "indif" is if someone else lets you in and out.

Don't worry, the news gets worse... With your current faction level, you can't do the quest, i.e. it won't give you the faction hit you want.

On the flip side, yes, if you could do the quest, you can turn in four at a time and get four faction hits.

End story, you'll only fast way to gain the faction you want... Kill Kobalds in the Warrens. Kill a thousand of them.

Actually, being a dark elf (or any character with Hide) is an advantage here. My DE SK fought in the Warrens until Dubious, got someone to let him in to Paineel, then went to turn in the molars.

After initiating trade, hit Hide then /con Likus. If still Dubious, take off Hide, wait for it to refresh, hit it again, then /con again. Repeat until you successfully Hide. You'll know, of course, because you'll be Indiffent to Likus. Then hit trade. Voila! You get the faction hit! You can keep doing this until Apprehensive (when you'll no longer need to Hide). Just remember to take off Hide after each trade and start again.

Why can't I turn in molars in Paineel when I am dubious to Lilkus? I was able to give them to Tiam in Erudin when I was dubious. Any ideas? Last time I turned in 15 molars in Erud and didn't get a thing. (I am now amiable there). I was hoping to improve my lot in Paineel.

I am playing a DE Necro and thought I'd visit the other Evil nation. I arrived to find I was "Threatning" and figured it was due to the differance in Gods we worshiped. I went into the Warrens and began to slaughter Kobolds. I killed roughly 20 of them and came out to Con one of the guards. "Dubious" I thought "alright, this won't take long at all" WRONG. I have killed literally hundreds of them since then and no change to faction. QUESTION: Am I wasting my time? Is the different Diety worship to much to overcome? I have gone through 3 stacks of food and water and have to beg because I have no where to buy from.

As an Erudite Necromancer visiting Faydwer, I found that Scowling and Threatening were the two easiest factions to change: just kill a lot of orcs. Dubious, however, took the longest of _all_ the factions to change. I estimate I killed about 50 orcs each to go from Scowling to Threatening to Dubious with the dwarves of Butcherblock, but probably about 6 times that many to get from Dubious to Apprehensive, then back to 50 or so to get from Apprehensive to Indifferent and from Indifferent to Amiable. Likewise, you're in a tough spot... you're going to have to kill a lot of kobolds to get your faction up... the good part is, the kobolds seem to drop a lot of food and a lot of molars. By the time you get to Apprehensive, you should be able to shoot your faction up with the molars.

It is only a waste of time if you do not want the faction in your favor. I personally love good faction and build mine any time I can with anyone I can. Have now gotten my Halfling druid to warmly with the Heretics of Erudin. Granted it does take a while. Just depends on how badly you want the positive faction.

Upping Armor Odds?
# Sep 10 2001 at 11:04 AM Rating: Default
You can give up to four molars. At first (levels 5 thru 8,) I always just gave them one at a time. I pretty quickly got ringmail bracers, sleeves, and coif. However, after hitting 7th, I wasn't getting any ringmail any more. After turning in a couple of dozen singles, I decided to try two molars. Bada-bing, I get a set of ringmail boots! At level 9, I tried three molars and got a cape on the first try.

So, it seems that you need to up the molar count at higher levels to get armor, and/or your odds of getting armor increases as you give a better "offering".
