You say, 'hail Sentry Emil'

Sentry Emil says 'Greetings stranger, what brings you to the Skyshrine, home to the kin? Your intentions had best be honorable, perhaps you wish to prove them?

You say, 'I wish to prove them."

Sentry Emil says 'Good, then you wouldn't mind doing a little favor for me? I was on my way to the galley to eat when I was called for this duty, and I remain incredibly hungry. If you would be so kind as to visit the galley and bring to me one of their fabulous boysenberry pies I would be incredibly grateful.

Head down to the kitchen.

You say, 'hail Grudash the Baker'

Grudash the Baker says 'Ah, welcome stranger. Perhaps I could interest you in one of my famous Boysenberry pies, the delight of Sky Shrine Ruru the Cook says 'Hah! Whatever Grudash. You know that my Roasted Walrus in Plum Sauce is better. You just don't want to admit it. Grudash the Baker says 'Why would I admit to such a lie? Everyone loves my pies. I rarely see anyone come in here asking for your Roasted Walrus. Ruru the Cook says 'Just you wait, just you wait! One of these days Grudash, you'll see. Grudash the Baker says 'Please ignore my friend Ruru here. He is a bit delusional. Ruru the Cook says 'Bah!

You say, 'I would like a boysenberry pie.'

Grudash the Baker chuckles, 'I thought you might, what say you now Ruru? Who is the better cook between us now?' Ruru the Cook grumbles, 'Bah, this still doesn't settle anything Grudash. This stranger obviously has no taste for fine cuisine.'

You say, 'hail Ruru the Cook'

Ruru the Cook says 'Hey there stranger, Pleased to meet you. I'm Ruru, I do the cooking around here. I'm the best cook around these parts. So, If you get hungry, you'd best be making sure you're coming to see me. Grudash the Baker laughs, 'I'm sure they'd prefer my Boysenberry pie to your Roasted Walrus with Plum Sauce any day.' Ruru the Cook laughs, 'Don't get me started. You know that my cuisine Is prefered over yours two to one.

Does this quest still exist?

Where's Emil
# Nov 26 2002 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
Okay I've been, I think, all through Skyshrine. I have not seen Emil. Someone there said that with all the new mobs, Emil is gone and a different mob gives this quest. Does anyone have any ideas who that would be?

This quest was mentioned when they posted about info for broken quests on the Developers Boards ( http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/everquest/Forum1/HTML/000358.html ).

Absor said that the quest had never been implemented and the NPCs hadn't said anything about pie for a LONG time. They later realised some versions of the NPCs still did say something, so now they have removed the references.

Last I checked, neither cook now gives leading text on the pie, and Emil no longer mentions it (instead he goes on about watching your step lest you end up on someone's dinner plate).

So now instead of spawning with a broken quest some of the time, Emil sometimes spawns with no quest at all. Ho hum :/
RE: Not in game anymore

As of yesterday (7/21/02) the cooks argue over the pie and the walrus, but Emil doesn't give out a quest and no one in skyshrine wants the walrus in plum sauce (105pp down the tubes.)
Faction doesn't change things
# Oct 16 2001 at 10:08 AM Rating: Good
My monk has been at absolute maximum Claws of Veeshan faction since about the third or fourth week Velious was out. (killed literally thousands of giants to get there)
I can attest to the fact that having maximum high faction doesn't affect this quest. It's broken/disabled, plain and simple.
I've tried every word and phrase that I and everyone I know can think of. I've talked to Grudash, Ruru and Emil for hours, tried to talk to the corner sentry whos name starts with H, no dice.
I am quite sure I've seen Orclev, in the room with four named Wurms shortly before you get to Yelinak's cave, but I could be wrong. I'll have to check again next time I head down there to check Yelinak faction. (even after many dozen, possibly several hundred spider/Eysa message/Velium Delivery/Mercenary quests I'm *still* threateningly to Yelinak.. sheesh!)

If anyone finds any new info on this quest I'd love to hear it. I've been wanting to complete it since I first ventured into Skyshrine after my faction went to dubious.

Cheers

I have foraged up a pie looking thing in waking lands before but never really looked at the name. I just drop them as a run along to where ever I am going at the time. =/

I have the pie on an alt rogue, that i bought from the baker forever ago for 0 pp, mostlikely if this could be purchased for nothing and repeatedly quested, it could be easily seen how people would exploit this for faction, hence it being removed from game... I will give the pie to emil and see faction changes

maybe you have to bake the pie
asking Emil
# Aug 30 2001 at 8:39 PM Rating: Decent
Has anybody asked Emil what he prefered? You might have to trigger Emil who asks you to go and pick up the Pie, go to the Cooks, They then will argue what dish is better. Then state something like you will ask around or ask Emil...Then go back to Emil and ask him if he would rather have a pie or roasted walrus? That might trigger the cooks into allowing you to get the pie or it might open up to a whole new thing.
New thought
# Aug 28 2001 at 5:00 PM Rating: Default
Is the Walrus dish etable? I know it soudns crazy, but mayby if you eat the walrus in front of the cook, so he would see --chomp chomp-- .... then he might respond that you havn't tried dish yet, or something. I mean, verant did make a big deal out of people being able to fake eating and fake looting things with emotes.

Just a random thought from a person who's faction is still not high enough to get into skyshrine. If ya don't like the idea of testin it, just wait and I'll tell ya my results if I ever get there myself.

All,

I have foraged this pie a couple times and I am 99.9% sure I was in Dreadlands when I did this. I am only lev 47 druid w/ foraging skill about 173 and have not worked on Factions in Velious so could not tell you if these pies work there but I am keeping them.

BTW If you want my pies give tell on Druzil Ro to Nduma.

Are you sure it isn't a Bixleberry pie you are foraging in DL? I've foraged those many times on the run from the teleports to FV or Karnor's.

Well after saving my BOYSENBERRY pie that I had foraged (made sure kept it in the last slot of food contain always so I did not consume it while playing) in DL, I thought I had foraged another one just the other day.

I was reading up on this quest and saw that someone had rudely said "No you have not" and that I had foraged Honey Berry Pies. I said to myself "bah I'll show him" I logged on today to verify that the 2nd pie was in my inventory, and low and behold it was. However, when I checked the name guess what had happened .. the name said "Honey Berry Pie"

Anyway, I could probably say the 2nd pie I had foraged was not a Boysenberry, however I know for a fact that the first one was. It was actually the 2nd with that name that I had foraged but the first one I consumed because I did not know about the quest. My feeling is VI nerfed the foraging of those pies.
Faction related?

I am curious if anyone trying this quest has amiable or higher faction with Yelinak? I have threatening still so I won't know until I get mine up a bit more, but I have looked around for this Orclev they talk about and can't find him, so it's possible he is in the deepest parts of Skyshrine where the Yelinak faction takes over, either that or I just haven't seen him yet.
RE: Faction related?

I am warmly to every creature and NPC in Skyshrine right up to Yelinak, who is still Dubious... apparently, making he has othe rfactions built in or is just more resistant to faction pluses than his underlings... but at any rate, every patch seems to have a different set of conversations in the Galley... the one with Guardian Master Orclev mentions taking a sample of each item to him along with a note (no note given, btw) and to wait for his response and bring his answer back... well, after tracking on the entire trip back thru Skyshrine right up to Yelinak, I can state there is no Orclev (Velcro spelled backwards) and NO boysenberry pie exists in the game as of this date (no boysenberries either). Obviously a unfinished quest (or few quests since Emil also asks for a pie in a separate quest). Also confused why the bartenders on the upper level of golem area (near Banker) do not sell/buy/or speak. Who ever heard of a bartender who had nothing to say??

Hey Hansel. :)

I found this quest too, but for the life of me couldn't get any pie out of those stingy cooks. You actually got farther than I did in this, I never got them to talk about how good the boysenberry pie was. I would have to put forth the theory that quest is yet to be fully implimented. I know, I know, Verant would NEVER put in only part of a quest, trade skill recipe, or unitemized zone, but there is a first time for everything. :p

Hiya Hippster. It's changed again. Now he says the following when you hail him:

Grudash the Baker says 'Welcome stranger. What is it that you say your name is? Hansel ? Pleased to meet you. I am Grudash. I do the baking here in the Sky Shrine and my friend here is Ruru, he does the cooking. Perhaps you would be willing to settle a dispute for us. Each of us has our own delicacy, a creation that defines our art. Mine is the Boysenberry pie, and his is a Roasted Walrus with Plum sauce dish. If you could let us know which you prefer more, it should help settle our dispute on who has the better dish.

Perhaps they thought this text would be easier to figure out, but I still don't get it.

Checked this today...

You say, "Hail Ruru the Cook"
Ruru the Cook says, "A stranger? Hmm. Well since you are new to these parts, I will introduce myself. I am Ruru, I do the cooking around here. Best cook in all the lands I would say."
Grudash the Bake laughs, "Hardly, I am at least as good as you. Perhaps even better."
Ruru the Cook says, "Perhaps a contest then? Stranger, if you would, take one of his Boysenberry pies, and one of my fabulous Roasted Walrus with Plum Sauce dishes to Guardian Master Orclev with this note. We will let him judge who is better, be sure to brign his answer back to me."

However, I didn't get a note from Ruru. I am still dubious though, so perhaps you need higher faction. I also can't buy from the two of them yet, so I can't check if they sell both dishes now.

# Apr 03 2001 at 4:13 AM Rating: Default
Having gone with giant faction, I can't check any of this. But if the two don't sell the indicated items, you might want to try saying something like "I will settle the your dispute", "I prefer the Boysenberry pie", "Grudash has the better dish", or "Grudash is better". Just some ideas based on the above text.

Cook and Baker SELL NODROP foods
# Mar 12 2001 at 3:02 PM Rating: Decent
They both have a NODROP food item at the bottom of the list of all the stuff they sell. I forget what they trigger phrase is, but you'll figure it out if you watch them talking to each other once in awhile. They want you to buy one of each of the NODROP items and bring them to some Sentry (probably Emil) for him to decide whose is better.

I'm told the baker used to sell the Boysenberry pie, but they removed it for some reason. I would guess that someone probably was abusing the faction/exp of doing the boysenberry pie quest, so they disabled it to get back to it at a later date. Just a guess though. Wish they'd fix it, or that I could figure it out. I'll post if I find the answer.

If you foraged one could you please tell us where? I have spent many hours foraging in SS for drake eggs, so I doubt there is anything forageable there I haven't seen.

Thanks

At least now he responds to boysenberry pie.
I'm sure before this most recent patch (march 5?)
that he still did not to "i would like a.." etc.

On another note the sentry kcor quest for mercenary assignments is fixed now.. and it only takes ONE. The mercenaries in wakening are green but sometimes xp to a 54.. and the caster ones are actually pretty hard (my 54 druid has not even tried the necro looking ones.. or the shaman)

reward is as much as 4 plat and various change. It might be like other quests in skyshrine where you get an item rarely.. but so far only money.

It seems that the responses have changed slightly since the patch, they even changed from the morning of the 6th to the next day after the emergency patch. Also the Merc Assignments quest has been working for me for about a week, ever since I tried using sneak, so it was a faction thing perhaps. It looks like they lowered the faction needed on some of these quests.

Ruru the Cook sells the dish he brags about: Roasted Walrus with Plum Sauce. It's an expensive dish though, at around 140p. Since I couldn't figure out how to get the pie I thought perhaps you need to give Emil the Roasted Walrus instead, but it didn't work. It may be that 2 servings are required (Ruru does say that it's preferred "two to one"). I have yet to check if it's LORE.

I got a velium blueberry (maybe it was boyesenberry) pie off of one of the mobs near Ziggy (keydrake). I hope this helps, doesnt make sense that a quest item would drop off something of the same faction, but *shurgs*, maybe im missing something.
