With the Coldain Military Bracers quest, you must have at least dubious faction to the Coldain and to the Kromrif/Kromzek.

In The Great Divide, kill a Coldain War Wolf, (PH's being the coldain tracking wolfies around the coldain areas). Coldain War Wolf drops a "Velium War Wolf Choker."

Bring the choker to a A Frost Giant Wolf Tamer under the bridge that leads to King Tormax's throne room. Just jump down the side of bridge.

After giving the Wolf Tamer the choker he gives you a wolf harness.

With the wolf harness now in your possession say "I am looking for more work".

A frost giant wolf tamer says 'Yes. I was charged with a certain... delivery. Apparently one of our good friends named Erdarf in Thurgadin needs a shipment of one karsin acid bottle. You can find such a thing in Crystal Caverns. Maybe one of the orc dogs has it. Find a way to get one of those bottles to our good friend eh? When you do, let me see whatever it is you find on him.'

He is being sarcastic... Erdarf is not really a friend and the Karsin acid will poison him.

A "Bottle of Karsin Acid" is no drop, and is looted off of random easy kill orcs in Crystal Caverns. About 1 out of 15 drops a bottle.

If your faction is good with both giant and dwarf then give the karsin bottle to Erdarf (in a bar near the cleric guild), and he "gives" you a gem of persuasion.

Now, with Gem of Persuasion, you can do the Kromrif Military Leggings OR you can do this:

Go back to giant wolf tamer, give him gem of persuasion, he gives you a giant's version of the gem.

Give him the wolf harness and the giant version of the gem, and he gives you his giant control harness. If you want, you can start the whole quest by handing in the Karsin Acid.. it is not necessary to kill the Coldain War Wolf and hand in the Choker.

Anyway, bring this giant control harness to the Shardwurm Broodmother in Great Divide (located in the wurm caves).

After giving the Broodmother the giant control harness, head to the Coldain Mine camp in the south east part of the zone and see Korf Brokenhammer.

Wait for the Broodmother to come. She suddenly comes running to the side of the cave and starts attacking, 1 second later, the dwarf with the coldain bracers (Korf Brokenhammer) starts running southwards (right of the cave entrance), hurry and root him. If you miss him you may miss chance on the bracer.

Now, the Broodmother becomes Korf's pet and will hit you if you're too close to Korf.

Kill Korf and find the Coldain Military Bracer on the corpse.

Did the quest today. The Broodmother never became a pet of Korf, she just charged the other dwarf at the camp and stood there for the rest of the time. Once Korf died, she walked back to her cave, she didn't despawn.

Also, there is a faction hit for killing Korf, +kromrif and +kromzek, -Dain and -Coldain. Don't know exactly how big a faction hit, but a hit none the less.

Last but not least, the Harness you want for this quest it the War Wolf Choker, dropped by a Coldain War Wolf. It's not the harness that drops from the Drakkal Blood Wolf.

As of today on the 7th hammer this quest was still broke. I have sent emails to many different locations requesting when they might GET OFF THEIR BUTTS AND ACTUALLY FIX SOMETHING, but no responses yet. Its junk like this that holds players back. They can make up new ideas to make themselves more money, then they just forget about the people on the regular servers. We may not pay $40 a month but we do still pay for a service and its not too much to ask for them to fix a quest thats been broke for months! If anyone has any idea on who to annoy to get this fixed please post.

I've had the components to do this and the leggings quest for 8 seasons on FV server and Broodmother has been bugged that entire time. Before she was bugged it appears that she had become an Ancient Shardwurms pet on her way to Fergul or the Doof's.

As usual Verant will take months to fix it, and on the roleplaying server at FV I will be TLC by then. Typical...
gem
# Dec 12 2001 at 4:30 AM Rating: Default
You cna get gem of persuasion from turning in rod of coldain ancients (droped of spider queen in cc) and turning it into one of the dwarves at the bar in thurg one closest to the door. I did it for the legging quest dont see why it wouldtin work for this. Then you dont have to mess about with the giant faction.
RE: gem
# Mar 14 2002 at 5:03 PM Rating: Decent
Thats fine, you get the Gem of Persuasion, then what? According to the quest you then give the Gem to a Frost Giant Wolf Tamer.

If that guy doesn't attack you outright (from poor faction) he's likely to just take the gem and say whatever giants say about "I don't know what to do with this, but thanks, I guess...".

I followed the previous posters advice about crating a troll warrior. I have access to two accounts so it was much easier for me. When it came to the Broodmother part, the troll handed the harness to her and then I ran my druid to the dorf caves from the wurm caves. (I was at the south end of the wurm caves and ran straight to the dorf caves when I handed the harness to her with the troll). The troll died quickly at the hands of the guardian shardwurms but that didn't matter. My druid saw the 2 dorfs outside the caves just standing there. Not very long after (maybe a few minutes), I saw the broodmother coming. Once she got near, Korf started running and I snared him and rooted him and put winged death on him. All I did was root and winged death from there and he died with 2 bubbles of mana left at least. The broodmother stood by him as though she was a pet, but she never attempted to attack me. Overall an easy quest for me.

Greetings all !

Just a short note as a draft for those who want to do the quest. I got mine yesterday and it was a lot of fun to do the quest. Since i am kos to giants and needed a person who could enter both towns, the giant and the dwarf area. I created a troll warrior with the beleives in Rallon Zek. Leveled him to 7 so he has a chance to stand a hit. A friend of mine helped him to reach crystal caves and killes the orcs so he could loot a bracer., then ran him to Thurg where i gave him a blood wolf harness i loted with my main. The troll turned in the accid and voila, a gem of persuaion. Then with the things needed in his possesion he ran back to Kael turning both items in. The wolf tamer is under the bridge in the kael king area. Handed the gem first, and then the returned gem and harness and taraaa a giant controll harness. After this success i ran my little troll back to turg and camped him there. Since i killed in GD with my main for faction at the moment, i saw broodmother on track. Askes some people in the guild for help since i am a suky ranger and cant do that alone. They agreed and waited at the cave entrance, whbere i camped my main while the guild druid casted slow, levi and inis on my troll so i could run into the cave and turned in the harness. Camped the toll out and back to the ranger where i joined the team again and waited for the broodmother to start her work. It took like 3 minutes for her to reach the cave. Korf started running as descibed and i snared him. We took him down but when zou are a meelee better bring support. He maybe 45 but he hits very hard and fast for that level. He droped the bracern my ranger looted and there is it. My new shiny bracer.
Some additona notes. After Korf died, the broodmother depoped. It might be possible to kill her first, after you rootedthe running dwarf and see if she drops something. For this method with the troll its essantial to have a druid or at least a rng in the team to do the needed buffage.

Thats it for now.

Has this quest changed???

I have my wolf harness and my bottle of Karsin acid...

Last night I went to Thurgadin ... I was Invisible and attempted to hand the bottle of Karsin Acid to Erdarf (sp?) to recieve the gem of pursuasion. Immediately upon attempting to hand him the item I was attacked by him and about 10 other dwarfs. By the time I reached Icewell I was down almost 2 full bubs of health with a pack of about 30 dwarfs following me, hell bent on my destruction.

I am max KoS to Dorfs
I am max Ally to Giants

Has the quest changed so that you cannot hand in the bottle of Karsin Acid while invisible? BTW, my invis didn't wear off, it was dropped when I initiated the trade. Previously I had no problems handing in dwarf heads or kobold paws to Capt. Bvellos in the Kael bank while invis (was ally to kromzek, but scowl to kromrif) and it didn't cause my invis to drop either.

I will attempt to get the gem again tonight while invis.. perhaps last time was a mere fluke.

Does anybody else have any ideas regarding this?

Thank You,

Bah, this is easy to get around...when I'm turning in quest things to someone KoS I always just hire a druid to give me wolf form first...as long as its not a KoS to Illusions zone, hehe...but I know this works very very well, and should work in Thurg. Good Luck with the quest...I'm now VERY VERY glad I have preserved my coldain/Kael faction as well as I can...still dubious to both! And now it finally pays off, hehe...plus you can also do the Coldain Skin Gloves/Boots if you have dubious to both I believe

Wolf form cannot work in Thurgadin. It's an outdoor only spell that pops off when you zone and Thurg is an indoor zone.

One note that many on Giant faction may not be aware of. There is a script that continually runs in Thurgadin involving a dwarf named Horasug. He will enter the bar that Erdaf is in, say a few lines and then get chased out of the bar by all the dwarves except the bartender and Erdaf. Since I believe the bartender is a vendor and therefore should not aggro, and Erdaf pops once you hand in teh acid, I believe it is entirely possible to go in invised, wait for the dwarves to run out, hand in the acid and get your gem then reinvis (or have someone cast it on you) Good Luck on this quest.

If you are KOS, I doubt that you can turn that in. When you activiate a trade window, invis drops. When the invis dropped, everyone in the bar saw you and wanted to hug your neck. If you can't sneak and hide, I dont think that even if you pulled him out of the bar you could turn in the gem.

That is not true, Invis does NOT always drop automatically when You hand in quest items.
I handed in numerous bone chips to the guard near cabilis entrance while invisible (spell).
I don't know the exact pattern, maybe it's depending on Your faction, at that time I was not kos anymore to the guard. And if You're kos invis drops as soon as You activate trade window... Hmm... no clue, could someone clarify this?

The invis do ALWAYS drop when you start the trade!
The icon stays up, but you are not invised anymore.
I have done the Cabilis quest too and you lose the invis there too.

This quest is almost as easy as the leggings.
Faction is not that big a deal for it...
all you need is sneak.
Most druids have it, and all rangers have it.
Just either have a ranger do everything up to the broodmother (beyond if you are brave) and then Killing the dorf is cake.
He is originally like 55 or something, but his quest incarnation is closer to 45.
I know, I killed him twice, got a wristguard for my druid and my shammie.
It was cake.
Do this quest.

Charming no.2
# Jul 04 2001 at 2:22 AM Rating: Decent
To the addition of all that...
according to Illia's, the giant wolf tamer is lvl 52.
So lvl 39 charm spell (Cajoling Whispers, cap lvl 41)
and lvl 49 charm spell (Allure, cap lvl 51)... won't even work on him...
So you'll need the lvl 53 charm spell (Boltran's Agacerie - cap lvl 53).
So you need a pretty high lvl enchanter to do that 40'ish quest... sigh
if it can do with charming at all...

Charm?
# Jul 04 2001 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
I came to the conclusion that CHARM the giant wolf tamer won't work at all or you need some VERY GOOD puller for it.
First off, getting to the giant wolf tamer involves going through some see through invis guys.
Secondly, the giant wolf tamer was sourrounded by 4 other Dire Wolves (all red to a lvl 50).

Ok, there are 2 ways of doing this quest, depending on whether you're KOS in kael or not. For both you'll need to be at least level 50 to attempt this solo.

Method 1 (KOS)

Make a new character, a warrior (any race) with a religion of rallos zek. Get him buffed up with sow and invis then ported to Iceclad. Run to crystal caverns, and log at the zone. Then log in your main character and start pulling orcs to the zone. When a bottle of karsin acid (no drop) drops quickly log on the warrior to loot. Alternatively, if the queen is camped, get someone to invis your warrior and run him down to the queen room and ask to loot a sceptre of the coldain ancients (lore no drop) from her. Obviously, this is quite tricky, but I managed it first attempt with help from guildies camping the queen.

Next, run your warrior to thurgadin. Hand either the sceptre or acid to Erdaf Restil (both result in the same item: a gem of persuasion). Get someone to bind the warrior here and camp him here. Get your main character killing drakkal bllod wolves for a blood wolf harness. Once one drops, loot then have someone hand it to your warrior.

With the warrior again, get sowed and invised and run to kael. The wolf tamer is under the bridge near the tormax area. He won't respond to hails (he should con dubious) but will hand out items correctly. First give him the gem of persuasion, to recieve a giant's gem of persuasion. Then give him the blood wolf harness and the giants gem to recieve a giants control harness. Get translocated or run back to great divide.

The broodmother is unlikely to be up, she's on a 12hr spawn timer. Get someone to invis the warrior yet again and proceed with caution into the wurm caves. Log him out in the cave just past the guardian shardwurms (this is where the broodmother pops).

The final stage is a series of triggered events. When you see the broodmother's up, run your main character to the entrance of the coldain mines in which Korf Brokenhammer resides, and log out. Log the warrior back in and hand the broodmother the harness then IMMEDIATELY log the warrior back out and your main character back in. You have approximately 4 minutes before the broodmother reaches the mines.

With a reasonably fast PC, you should log in to see the 2 dwarves stood outside the cave with the broodmother still some way off. Target Korf and sit and wait (He will be approximately level 45 now). Eventually, the mother will arrive and attack, at which point you will lose your target. This is because korf depops then immediately repops with the bracer, and starts running. Retarget, then throw a quick snare at him (assuming you're a druid or ranger), and he'll attack you. The broodmother will be his pet and attack if you get too close to him, so root dotting or bow kiting is ideal. As a 54 druid, he took 2 rounds of breath or ro and winged death to kill, meaning he has around 5000hps... I've no idea what he hits for because i didn't get close enough to find out. Every snare and root I cast stuck fully, making things easy. When he dies, the broodmother should depop and you can walk over and loot the bracer.

Method 2 (non KOS)

This is similar but you save yourself the hassle of needing the alternate character. In CC, loot the acid or sceptre then hand in whilst invis in thurgadin (The quest intends for you to slip the acid in his drink, poisoning him and letting you steal the gem whilst he's distracted, although you can give him the sceptre and he hands the gem over willingly - no faction hits in either case). Kill a coldain war wolf in GD, and loot the war wolf choker. Hand the choker to the wolf trainer to get a drakkal blood wolf harness. Hand the gem in to get a giants gem of persuasion. Hand both these items in simultaneously to get your control harness. Give this to the broodmother to trigger the event, and follow the advice given in the previous section for killing korf.

A few facts...

If KOS to kael you CANNOT do this quest without using the warrior multiquest method above. You are GUARANTEED to be attacked in kael if you try handing in invis, and the items will in all probability be lost.

Korf is NOT 55 in the quest, as mentioned above he's nearer 45 with low MR and FR. He is however 55 when not in the quest, which obviously leads to some confusion.

You MUST wait for the broodmother to attack and repop korf before attacking him, if you attack prior to this you won't get the bracer.

You can depop the broodmother by killing whichever mob she's attached to as a pet... you don't need to kill the mother herself. She's a remarkably bugged mob and whilst will probably take Korf as a master she may pick a passing wolf or anything instead. It's common courtesy to depop her after you've done the quest if she doesn't automatically depop since if she's left wandering round following a wolf it's A) a nasty surprise for anyone that attacks the wolf and B) stops her respawning so others can do the quest.

I've gotten my leggings now and don't mind taking a faction hit with the coldain for getting a bracer. My question is.. has anyone tried using a ranger to camo/sneak on the wolf tamer to get do the quest? If faction doesn't have to be at least amiable I don't se why this wouldn't work unless the tamer sees invis. Or is it possible to get the quest in a loop like the leggings (don't kill the mother and keep pulling the quest mob out of its agro range of her when they come out)

You don't actually need good coldain faction to do this, since you can hand in the acid / sceptre of coldain ancients to the guy in thurgadin whilst invis and it will work. Dubious faction at least to both kromrif and kromzek is a must though, unless you want to do it the awkward level 1 troll warrior way (or happen to be a troll warrior). In my opinion, it makes sense to do all the coldain quests you want to do (prayer shawl, kromrif leggings, seal of thoridain etc.) then go fight in skyshrine and frostkeep to get both giant factions up. Then you can do this quest and the kael armor, which is arguably the best of the three types.

I have a troll shaman follower on Innoruk, is it possible that he might be ok factionwise to do this quest?

Does anyone know if the originator picked troll warrior/rallos Zek faction for a reason, or if any other race/class/religion combinations would work?

I'll try this tonight with my innoruk troll and see what happens...wish me luck...
RE: Hey!!! is troll warrior the only posible starting factio
# Jul 06 2001 at 11:26 AM Rating: Excellent
The key thing here is worshipping Rallos Zek. The Giants are Dubious towards such worshippers regardless of race, whereas they are by default KoS to everyone else. I think all Warriors, and Ogre Shaman, can worship Rallos Zek. "Evil" isn't really the issue here.
Will take a hell of alot of faction to fix this
# May 09 2001 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
I read this thing and figured it would be as easy as Kromrif's military leggings...well I was wrong.
Actually, Krom's legs is one of the easiest quests I have done, I have legs for my ranger, druid and shaman. Unfortunately, just to finish that quest, you need to kill giants(Furgul). So, although the description says you can "either do the legs quest or this one" it is way not that simple. I know that I am KOS in Kael, and I am ok in Thurgadin, so I can get the gem of persuasion, but I will need a boat load of faction to get to the trainer.
I tried with help today, he's actually called "a frost giant wolf tamer" and he is under the Icebridge by King Thrax or whatever...I made it to him invised the whole way, and made it out alive too. The problem was, he glared at me threateningly the whole time, so there is no way I could have given him anything. So, my plan is to do this quest more than once, so I can't kill my Coldain faction, but I need Kael faction-which I can gain by killing coldains. It's kinda a double edged sword. I think I might try the troll trick, but it would take alot of luck and a whole lot of help from my guild. I have a shaman who can make invis and sow potions, that might be the way to go. I've heard dragons in WW will raise both Coldain and Kael Drakel faction, but WW is hard to get to, and the dragons are all 50+...it could be messy. I guess I'd sit the troll at the zone in Crystal caves and hope I see the karsen's acid, then hope he can make the run to Thurgadin without dyng, and then the run through to Kael without dying and then run back to the Broodmother in GD to sit and wait. It seems like a really big streatch...but hell, if it works, they are better than my mith bracers.
What level is Korf?
# May 08 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Decent
What level is Korf once he respawns during the quest? I assume it is 45, much like Fergul who was 45 (normally lower level) during the Coldain version of this quest.

Ok, I am dubious to both the coldain and the giants. I handed in the karsin acid with out talking to the giant wolf tamer, and i did not get the gem of persuasion. If i talk to the wolf tamer first will erdarf give me the gem this time? rather than just say i don't deal with your kind... or something like that

As of April 27, the quest works... everything went as normal, but the broodmother did assist Korf, even before she killed Relik. Relik actually spent the fight boxing away at the broodmother, while she just stood at Korf's side. Quite amusing.
