With the Coldain Military Bracers quest, you must have at least dubious faction to the Coldain and to the Kromrif/Kromzek.

In The Great Divide, kill a Coldain War Wolf, (PH's being the coldain tracking wolfies around the coldain areas). Coldain War Wolf drops a "Velium War Wolf Choker."

Bring the choker to a A Frost Giant Wolf Tamer under the bridge that leads to King Tormax's throne room. Just jump down the side of bridge.

After giving the Wolf Tamer the choker he gives you a wolf harness.

With the wolf harness now in your possession say "I am looking for more work".

A frost giant wolf tamer says 'Yes. I was charged with a certain... delivery. Apparently one of our good friends named Erdarf in Thurgadin needs a shipment of one karsin acid bottle. You can find such a thing in Crystal Caverns. Maybe one of the orc dogs has it. Find a way to get one of those bottles to our good friend eh? When you do, let me see whatever it is you find on him.'

He is being sarcastic... Erdarf is not really a friend and the Karsin acid will poison him.

A "Bottle of Karsin Acid" is no drop, and is looted off of random easy kill orcs in Crystal Caverns. About 1 out of 15 drops a bottle.

If your faction is good with both giant and dwarf then give the karsin bottle to Erdarf (in a bar near the cleric guild), and he "gives" you a gem of persuasion.

Now, with Gem of Persuasion, you can do the Kromrif Military Leggings OR you can do this:

Go back to giant wolf tamer, give him gem of persuasion, he gives you a giant's version of the gem.

Give him the wolf harness and the giant version of the gem, and he gives you his giant control harness. If you want, you can start the whole quest by handing in the Karsin Acid.. it is not necessary to kill the Coldain War Wolf and hand in the Choker.

Anyway, bring this giant control harness to the Shardwurm Broodmother in Great Divide (located in the wurm caves).

After giving the Broodmother the giant control harness, head to the Coldain Mine camp in the south east part of the zone and see Korf Brokenhammer.

Wait for the Broodmother to come. She suddenly comes running to the side of the cave and starts attacking, 1 second later, the dwarf with the coldain bracers (Korf Brokenhammer) starts running southwards (right of the cave entrance), hurry and root him. If you miss him you may miss chance on the bracer.

Now, the Broodmother becomes Korf's pet and will hit you if you're too close to Korf.

Kill Korf and find the Coldain Military Bracer on the corpse.

49 and Tribunal?
# Feb 24 2003 at 2:02 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering if a 49 barbarian shaman could solo this quest. Someone said they did it at 46, so is it possible? if so how? Thanks
How do you MQ this?
# Feb 16 2003 at 9:52 AM Rating: Decent
I have been told that this can be Multi Quested. I am ally to coldain, but max KOS to the giants, and was told that you could create a ogre or troll character, with Rallos Zek as thier diety. My question is, how do you go about doing the MQ?
RE: How do you MQ this?
# Mar 23 2003 at 1:39 PM Rating: Decent
You would MQ this by having your Mule make all the turn ins. The mule would get the Giant Control Harness and hand in to the Broodmother. Then on your main (the one that can actually kill Korf)go kill the dwarf and loot your Wristguard.

Just tried this today with my druid who is Dubious to dorfs and the bugger wouldnt give me back the acid and ya he wouldnt talk to me either but as the other posted say here he is suposed to give gem with Dub faction but not talk to you...

Didnt work gah...maybe my druid is on the low end of Dubious or something...he is Karana deity I dont know if that matters or not.

Guess I will try with my twink SK orger who is Rallos Zek .." sigh "

Karana deity suggests a Halfling druid - if so, try sneaking behind Erdaf.
Another way to solo!
# Dec 31 2002 at 4:56 PM Rating: Default
Another way to complete quest, and is how my druid did it (hlf,57 // ally to coldain, KOS to kremzek/kromriff/tormax)
I waited in GD till a "Coldain War Wolf" (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=8769) spawned, (wasn't too hard at the time since there were people killing the PH's) which dropped a "War Wolf Choker"(will edit soon).
I then got a "Bottle of Karsnic Acid" from crystal caverns, and turned it into Erdarf Restil in Thurgadin to get the "Gem of Possession".
In Kael, I got a 58 monk to pull the 2 guards(at the entrance to the room containing the Frost Giant Wolf Tamer) away from the gateway, and FD. This allowed me to run into the room. Every giant see's through invis, except for one, which was also green to me(. So I sneaked around the right edge of the room, after falling down the ledge, behind the green giant until i was behind the Tamer and my sneak made me indifferent(there is also a wolf that doesn't see invis right next to the tamer, so make sure you are sneaking, and invised while positioning yourself, then just cancel it right before you do turn in). I went up behind him and turned in the choker and the gem, but he gives back a "Blood Wolf Harness"(https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=3769)and the gem, and then says to come back when I am looking for more work. I simply handed the harness and the gem back into him and he gave me "Giant's harness of control"(MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO DROP Slot:WAIST AC:5 WT:3.0 Size:MEDIUM Class:ALL Race:ALL) and the harness back. At this point, how you get out is up to you(CoH preferably, since when i tried to egress every giant in the room agroed me and started kicking my behind, luckily I channeled, and the aego sure was a help, since i had 250 health left when i popped back in hehehe)...good luck!

Acid drop

I've killed around 100 orcs in CC with no acid. I have only been killing the 8-10 spawns closest to the zone in (so I can log on my poor level 6 troll to loot).

Have I just been unlucky or do I need to kill further in to get the acid?

On the positive side, I've killed 4 Herbalists (2 BCRs, 1 Shroud, 1 Pack), 2 Inspectors (2 belts) and one oracle has dropped a cloak.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Update: Logged in yesterday and someone else was farming velium in the upper tunnels. I checked the corpses they had left and two of them had acid bottles, so I assume they do drop them at the top.

Actually you don't need any harness to do the Coldain Military Bracer version of the quest - just get the Karsin Acid, hand in to Erd in Thurg, take gem to giant wolf tamer in KD, hand in gem, hand in the gem he gives you back to him again, and you get the giant control harness to hand in to Broodmother.

Just did all this with troll warrior of Rallos Zek dubious to all and worked fine even though they wouldn't talk to me. Great quest great item :)

RE: shortcut
# Feb 12 2003 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
This is correct, but seems to be a bug. The intention seems to be that you can get a Blood Wolf Harness in return for the War Wolf Choker, then turn in the Blood Wolf Harness and the Giant Control Gem to get the Giant Control Harness.... but currently the quest returns the Blood Wolf harness and just uses the Giant Control Gem to give a Giant Control Harness.
velious midrange MQ's
# Nov 11 2002 at 4:51 PM Rating: Default
As with most midrange velious quests, this is ridiculously easy to MQ as the final reward is a looted item. For those of you who are looking to do this any enchanter with apprehensive or better faction with giants should be able to cover everything for you, provided they haven't pissed off the dwarves too intensely.
Dubious

I can get a dubious toon to the wolf tamer, but he doesn't respond to hail. (Or rather he responds by saying 'A talking lump of refuse, how novel.') I assume he won't give the harness at this faction? Anyone know whether that's correct?

I just did this minutes ago with Dubious faction. Works fine. Give Gem, get Gem back. Give Gem and Harness, get Control Harness and original Blood Wolf Harness.
tunarian druids and handins
# Oct 24 2002 at 1:25 PM Rating: Default
It seems that you cannot do this quest if you are KOS to giants. As it says in the first line, must be dubious or better - but some of the users posts were confusing on the subject. A guildie attempted to get in to the wolf tamer, but apparently some giants see invis towards that area. So the trick of bringing in a charmer capable of lvl 52 npcs wont work. Unless:

A) you find some way of navigating thru see-invis-giants, bringing a charmer with you
B) a dubious or better charmer pulls the tamer to zone or a safe hand in spot??

As a guild we were thinking about a mini-raid to get in as deep as the tamer, then possibly pulling off the charm trick.

Im not familiar with the Tormax section of Kael, would two or three groups of 50+ suffice to
just get as far as the tamer?? (just before the throne room, by bridge).

Any advice is welcomed.

Otherwise - the Rallos Zek Troll (or Ogre?)
looks like the only option.

It looked like it, when I took my dubious toon in there. You don't have to go by all that many see-invis giants. But you never know until you try, and my toon is low enough that everything looks the same shade of red regardless of whether it's easy or deadly for low-50s characters.

"If your faction is good with both giant and dwarf then give the karsin bottle to Erdarf, and he gives you a gem of persuasion. "

This is incorrect. I am horribly KOS to Giants ("Your faction with the Kromzek could not possibly get any worse") and ally to the coldain. I handed Erdarf the bottle of Karsin Acid and he returned the Gem and depopped.

I have not yet completed the quest, but I looted a bottle of Karsin Acid in CC so I thought I 'd give it a try. I was able to buy a blood wolf harness in the bazaar for 50p, so I guess now I need to find someone who can charm to come with me to find this guy in Kael.

The rest sounds like cake, he lied.

thanks for your help!

Yes, they are no drop. The only droppable items in the quest are the war wolf choker and the blood wolf harness.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 02 2002 at 10:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I play a 51st lvl druid on Brell Serilis by the name of Mossberg Scattergun and I have gotten this bracer for my druid and many other people through multi questing. If you play on Brell and are interested in this item I can MQ it for you for 8k, and that is cheap, I had done it for 3k at one time but due to needing to correct my faction for the completion of my shawl quests I had to up the price.

I am a woodelf, would it be possible for me to invis to the giant wolf tamer then hit hide and do the turn in? i think i can make it out of there alive when i have to stop hiding by moving but i would at least like to know if a trade in like this would work

Instead of killing the Queen in CC, you can just obtain the gem of persuasion with a bottle of karsin acid?

Yup, did it with leggings and doing the same with this, no need to kill Queen in CC just spend like a bit of time in CC til you get a bottle of karsin acid, good luck :)

Fraction
# Aug 24 2002 at 2:17 AM Rating: Default

Started this quest with Ally with the coldain, and Dragons and KOS to the giants. After spending a few hours a night for 2 weeks of killing in Sky Shrine and the Dorks in Great Divide, plus a whole night killing dragons in NTOV I am now KOS to EVERYTHING. (Yes still KOS to all giants)

My suggestion is to do the trick about creating another char "troll warrior" and SAVE YOURSELF the TIME and TROUBLE from trying to change your fraction for this quest.

The reason you are KOS is that you are a Tunare worshipper.

The giants are oppossed to Tunare more than Dorfs or dragons, you may never not be KOS.
RE: Fraction

wrong.
nothing makes a person permakos.
your faction, your race, and your religion all go into how a thing considers you. race & religion together alter your consideration, but these can be overridden by faction, for example anyone can become nonkos in chardok, and those sarnaks definitely don't care for the average race/religion. and any guild that consistenly raids nToV will become nonkos to the giants, even their tunare luvin hippie members.

I want this for my Shaman, who's a Tribunal worshipper. Currently I am dubious to the Coldain and KOS to the Giants....is the only option to get the faction to do this quest to slay dragons?

Also, my warrior is a Rallos Zek woshipper. From the little contact he's had with Frost Giants in Iceclad, he's KOS. Does religion really matter?

I tried this today with a Ogre Warrior of Rallos Zek and the wolf tamer wouldn't talk to me.

So I assumed dubiously to the giants wouldn't be enough anymore but I finally handed in the items and it worked, despite the fact that he didn't want to talk.

Korf Brokenhammer
# Jul 21 2002 at 5:30 PM Rating: Default
Korf Brokenhammer is the one that runs from fight and drops the item when killed...

When harness is handed to broodmother she heads out the north end of cave & around the mountain (behind the giant fort) to coldain mines... When you hand in harness the 2 Dorfs spawn at mouth of mines... Korf runs SW when broodmother attacks...

His listed level on Beastiary page is not correct for the quest spawned version... He was light blue to my necro at 55 which means he is 40ish....

He does give negative Thurgadin faction and positive Kael factions when killed....

I recently started this quest. When I handed in the Gem of Persuation I got the Giant version like I was supused to. When I handed in the Giants version with the harness I got a the Giant Control Harness like I suposed to, but also got a "I have no need for this item you may have it back" message and the blood wolf harness back.

Blood Wolf Harness
# Jun 23 2002 at 9:23 PM Rating: Default
Whats the drop rate on the blood wolf harness off the drakkel wolves. Is it easier to just get the regular harness off the war wolf. If so how rare a spawn is he?
Successfully completed
# Jun 19 2002 at 1:28 PM Rating: Excellent
I successfully completed this quest on June 18th, 2002, with considerable help from my guild. Here are a few facts that I confrimed:

1. The turn-ins can be done with a charmed "a frost giant wolf tamer" without a problem.
2. The blood wolf harness dropped by the drakkel blood wolf in Great Divide is exactly the same as the one returned by "a frost giant wolf tamer" for turning in the war wolf choker. You can avoid killing the Coldain War Wolf by getting that piece instead. (Be certain, if you do it this way, your turn-ins to the giant are: Gem of Persuasion, then blood wolf harness and Giant Gem of Persuasion together.)
3. After the broodmother reaches the mines, Korf will run off. I waited until he had gone over the first hill, and the broodmother never bothered me.

In this case, I killed Korf, the broodmother killed the other dwarf. After that, she just stood around. I didn't stick around more than five minutes, so I don't know if she evntually wandered back to the caves.
NO BRACER
# Jun 14 2002 at 6:14 PM Rating: Default
Did the quest today. The Broodmother just walked to the dwarfs at the camp and stood there the whole time. Once Korf died, she walked back to her cave, she didn't despawn.

ALSO, the Bracer DID NOT drop!!!!!
is it still bugged ?!?!?!?!?!?!
got NO loot, no bracer! GM said ill have to start it over ! its BS!
RE: NO BRACER
# Jun 19 2002 at 1:34 PM Rating: Decent
It sounds like you may have attacked Korf before he ran off. If he didn't have a chance to despawn and respawn in place, the sequence may have been interrupted. You MUST wait until the broodmother confronts the dwarves and starts fighting before you attack Korf.
