This is the third Prayer Shawl Quest. You must do the first two before doing this. Ask Borannin "What chore?" and he will start you on the third quest.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, ______. I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before I forget, the council has issued yet another [chore] for you to complete.

You say, 'What chore?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'The council agrees that you have demonstrated a disdain for our enemy, the Kromrif, that rivals our own. They now ask that you demonstrate your loyalty to the Dain by humbling yourself and serving our people. Give this, my seal, to Mordin. He will instruct you further.

  • Mordin Frostcleaver is located in Mordin's Meats at LOC -214, -214.

    You say, 'hail Mordin Frostcleaver'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Ah, hello there, and welcome to me shop, Halfling. Ye'll have to excuse the mess but I've been havin a bloody good time here lately. . . HAR HAR, ye get it? Anyways, thanks to you offlanders I now have a selection of some exotic meats never afore seen here on Velious. • Give him Borannin's Seal.

First things first, warsh yer grubby mitts an cook up dinner fer good ol Leif. Shouldn be too tough fer ye, he has simple enough taste. • He gives you a napkin named "Leif's Napkin" is No Drop.

You say, 'What is a Tundrabear Sandwich?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Dat's easy, ye just take a slab a dat Tundra Kodiak meat and a jug a sauce, put it in da oven, den combine the product with a loaf a bread in a mixin bowl an there ye be.

  • Get a Tundra Kodiak meat, put it in oven with jug of sauces to make Saucy Bearmeat. Put your creation in a mixing bowl with one loaf of bread, which Mordin sells, and combine. If your skill is high enough you get the sandwich. Turn this in to Guard Leif (location -284, +492, on the way to Grand Historian) with the napkin and get a "Used Napkin" back.

Guard Leif says 'Well I'll be derned. An outlander that can make a good Bearmeat 'n Bread! Thank ye, _______.'

You say, 'What is Ulthork Meat Pie?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hmm, lemme look that one up. Been awhile since I made one. Here we are, two Ulthork meats, a vinegar and a spices in a mixin bowl. Put yer meat mix, a clump a dough, an a pie tin in da oven an yer good ta go.

This requires two ulthork meat, and the problem here is that if you're not careful you will eat the meat. Most of the items you need to collect or make are edible. I know the kodiak meat and bunny meat do not get eaten, but everything else seems to disappear if not below your food in your inventory. I could not find any snake eggs in Thurgadin for the clump of dough, so I ported to Misty Thicket to get them. The pie tin is another stumbling block here unless you are good at smithing and pottery, or you have a friend who is. To smith the Pie Tin you first need to make a ceramic lining, so your pottery has to be trained somewhat. I had relatively good success with a 25 pottery, whereas my smithing is in the low 100's and I don't think the pie tin is trivial to me yet. Luckily the pie tin, and the pot in the previous step, are regular items that anyone can craft and give to you if you lack the proper skills.

  • Turn the pie and the napkin in to Lorekeeper Brita in the back of the Library and receive a dirty pie tin which you take back to Mordin for the final step in this quest.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'More dirty dishes, eh? Well outlander, only one more meal to serve and I'll be done with ye. Make a snow griffin souffle fer the Grand Historian himself. It's his favorite.'

  • The final task is to create a Snow Griffin Souffle. The person you are making this for is none other than the Grand Historian Thoridain himself.

You say, 'What is Snow Griffin Souffle?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'This one's a bit tricky, ya toss four snow griffin eggs and a pack of spices in de oven. Ye must bake it just right or it's all gunna be wasted. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

  • So now you need 4 Griffin eggs. I set out and with a little help was able to get 4 eggs to drop in about 3 hours. It would have gone faster, but I had trouble finding the Griffins. All in all I'd say we got the 4 eggs in about 12 - 15 Griffins, maybe even less.

  • Once you've made the souffle turn it in to Grand Historian Thoridain with the napkin. Here I learned something useful. I forgot to turn in the napkin when I turned in the souffle. In my excitement in creating the souffle I had completely forgotten. I was about to petition that he had eaten my item when I realized the forgotten napkin, so I gave him the napkin and to my suprise it worked.

Grand Historian Thoridain says 'My compliments, _________, what a wonderful dish! Please accept my personal Seal as a token of my appreciation. May it give you power over your adversaries.'

  • He gives you his Seal to give to Borannin with your second Prayer Shawl. Turn them into Loremaster Borannin.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Well done ______, the council will be impressed with your effort. Here is the woven prayer shawl, wear it with pride. I know there is talk of great plans for you, be sure to come back and ask me what the council has [brewing].

  • You receive Seal of Thoridain.

    You say, 'What is brewing?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'As of now they have nothing for me to tell you. Bear with me _______, there will soon be much to do!

For those who want it sumed up, here is a shopping list of items you will need to do the whole quest. This assumes no failures, so plan accordingly :)

    1 Tundra Kodiak Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Jug of Sauces (Stackable)
    1 Loaf of Bread (Stackable)
    1 Mixing Bowl (Container)
4 Snow Griffin Eggs (Stackable, No Drop)
    3 Spices (Stackable)
    2 Frost Bunny Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Flasks of Water (Stackable)
    1 Pot (Non-stackable, Not a container)
    2 Ulthork Meat (Stackable, edible)
    1 Vinegar (Stackable)
    1 Snake Egg (Stackable)
    1 Bottle of Milk (Stackable)
    1 Cup Flower (Stackable)
    1 Pie Tin (Non-stackable, Not a container)

One last note...I did this whole third quest without an open inventory slot, since I had to carry around a mixing bowl. So you don't have to worry about not getting an item from one of the NPC's if all of your slots are filled, anything they give you, including the shawl and the seal, fit in your backpacks.

    Tanik
    # Jun 20 2001 at 11:12 PM Rating: Decent
    Guys,

There are currently six spawn spots that I know about for Tanik - all of these are at the top of the ramp to Kael. If you stand at the top of the ramp and have a pet class /pet guard here the pet will point to the nearest mob. In some cases this could be a mob out in the tundra in which case go kill it (if you can see it with clip plane set all the way out then your pet can too).

If you can't see anything - stand in front of the pet and put something on your mouse as if you were going to trade. ***Make sure you have Item Drop in Options set to CONFIRM***

No click the mouse forwards in front of the pet and in a straight line...It is tricky, but you will see one of two messages either:

You are to far away from A to trade...This message is bad - it means that the place your pet is pointing to is a KDS (Killer Death Squad).

If you see You are too far away from Tanik to trade..Then obviously bingo! Walk stright out from the pet until you run over him and there ye go...

NB If you do get ambushed by the KDS - simply run in a wide arc until you have time to gate (Best thing is to bind yourself either at GD zoneline or Kael zoneline). As soon as you zone the KDS will poof and the spawn will change.

If you leave the pet class at the top of the ramp out of the way of the giants and use the gate/zone method they wont receieve any aggro and when they see you zone they should also see the pet change direction and point to a new spawn.

With a bit of luck the whole process will only take between 5-20 minutes.

    Kromrif Deathsquad:
You are too far away from You have to trade!

    Tanik:
You are too far away from You stumble to trade!

You have = "You have been ambushed by Kromrif Deathsquad..."
You stumble = "You stumble accross an injured Coldain..."

"You have" and "You stumble" are actual mobs (of a sort), I have opened trade windows with both...

BTW, more often than not, anyone within agro range of the Deathsquad WILL have agro 1 1/2 seconds after they pop... If you get agro, best advice is to dart straight for Kael, assuming you have SoW or JBoots. (Yes, JBoots WILL outrun the DS)

Okay, is it me or did they do something to the spawn rate of the Snow Griffins? I'm on the Bertoxx server and I've had my druid tracking for several days now and no sign of a Snow Griffin. I remember them all over the place and now not one can be found.

    Anyone else have this problem?

those damn things were a serious pain in the *** until this quest became famous! i swear to god everytime i ran to thurgadin from the ice clad portal i had at least one of these things nuking me along the way! now that i'm doing this quest theres not one of them around!

also, i have heard from other players that there are frequent sitings of them near the rygor fort, but everytime i got to camp some rygor armor, i never see these stupid flying freaks!
    Whew!!!

Boy when I spoke to somone who was working on this part of the quest and they said it was tough and boring, I thought "naaaa seems easy, put batwings and fish in a container and combine, get some blocks of clay some sketches and water and combine.....no problem" Well, even though its fun learning new tradeskills, and being one of very few who can say "I can make Fish Head Stew or Gnome Kabobs", this takes alot of time and pacience. I spent several hours getting my baking skill up to 140 (just to be sure of no failures) and getting pottery up to 115 (plenty for this part of the quest). Then off to get my items, luckily i was able to get the Ulthork meat, rabbit meat, and kodiak meat fairly easily, and went back to get atleast a portion of the baking and distributing done, so that i could just get my Griffin Eggs and combine and turn in for the shawl and seal.........THIS IS THE HARD PART (but as always..there are secrets) To get the eggs, here is what you do...

First get 2 to 4 druids together in EW. Everyone memorize the AoE Lightening spell (34 or 49) everyone Quad kite Snow bunnies, Tundra Mammoths, and anything else (animal like) in 2 areas. The first area you want to do this in is near the Rygorr Camp, and the other area is in between the Rygorr Camp and the hut Icefang spawns in. After about 1 hour of quad kiting, you will begin to see several Snow Griffins on track, and even a few Elder Snow Griffins (im not sure if Elder has a better drop rate, but they are higher level, I received 2 eggs from Elders and 2 eggs from regular snow griffins, so it seems random) now the 4 druids can either Root/Dot or Charm Mammoths (if any are left after your mass killing) and have the mammoths kill your griffins. It took me on the upwards of 5 hours to get 1 egg by just sitting and running circles looking on track for snow griffins, but the following day i used the above tactic and ended up with 3 eggs in about 2 hours.

I hope this helps you all with getting your shawls

    Spit works fine
    # Jun 10 2001 at 3:43 AM Rating: Default
After camping the griffs for about 9 hours i got my eggs. most of the ones i killed were near the orc for, so this is a good place to look for them.

yes, a spit will work fine as it is mostly a portable oven, anything you can make in an oven you can make in a spit, as long as all the ingrediants will fit. i haven't found anything with more than six ingrediants at one time so a spit will work fine.
    My 2 Cents
    # Jun 03 2001 at 3:08 AM Rating: Excellent
Well I have successfully completed Feeding all the Coldain. They are quite the hungry bunch. There are a few very good posts about what is needed but I just wanted to add my two cents on what items are needed for this quest.
ulthork Meat - Easy to get off of ulthorks in EW BTM at lvl 40
Rabbit Meat - Also Easy to get, they spawn near the Ulthorks
Tundra Kodiak Meat/Snow Grifin Eggs - These two were harder to get. The Kodiak Meat was the easier of the two. Both the Kodiaks and the Griffins seem to spawn most commonly between the base of the bridge and the Ry'Gorr Fort. The Kodiaks I could solo with about 2 1/2 mana left. The meat spawned on the 3rd one. I got a few extras, just in case.
Snow griffins - These are much harder. They are as fast as a slightly weighed, sowed 40th lvl druid :-(, they are also fairly snare resistant. The are casters as well, although not too bad. They hit a fragile druid hard. I soloed a few of these but they all took nearly FM to kill and a few times when snare didnt land things were pretty hairy. Then I hooked up with a lvl 51 Monk who was hunting Kodiaks for HQ hides and we got 4 eggs in maybe 10 kills and 2 hours or so. The bad part about where the Griffins spawn is there are Dire Wolves, Snow Dervs and Ry'Gorr. We had to Fd/zone a few times because of adds. I would highly recommend that you avoid Elder Snow Griffins unless you are high lvl or have good support. Very snare resistant and very, VERY fast.
Most of the baking supplies can be purchased from the Dwarven vendors in the bank.
The Pot I bought in a store in FP and the Pie Tin I created, trivial with 134 pottery.
A snake egg is easily gotten anywhere snakes spawn, I got 4 in Sro in just a few minutes near the druid ring.
The Mixing Bowl was by far the most frustrating. A posting here stated that they purchased a Mixing Bowl in NFP near the bank. As far as I could tell no shop there sells a mixing bowl. I finally tracked mine down in WFP in the bakers Shop, im sorry I dont recall the name off the top of my head. I tried Rivervale and Thurg and was not able to find it.
The three people you need to find are Guard Leif, near the entrance to the Paladins guild, Trita Coldheart, in a house very near the back door of the bank, and Loremaster Brita, found in the library very near the grand historian. I hope you can find him :-)
I did get the Seal of Thoradain and it is a very nice item for ranged slot, see postings below for stats.
Skills Baking 135, Pottery 134. All attempts successful and all trivial.
A good quest with a nice bonus item, im sure many will do this quest just for the seal.
    Good luck

this has to be the most helpful post on this board. not this "oh it was easy i found a pot on this vendor and quad kited half the zone and got all my stuff in 30 minutes so if you cant do it then too bad!" this post has names relative locs and someone who put some real effort! my point? i just want to whine about the other posts and brag a little about this post. that is all!

makeing a mixing bowl is easy, if you have no pottery skill raise it on makeing small bowls, till about 90 or so, then buy a stack of larg bowl pattern and go to town, when you get an unfired go fire it and then your done, at least till you need to go make a thurg gate potion<at 130 pottery i get a scucces every once in a while >

Finding a mixing bowl on a vendor is a matter of luck, I think. It would have to be on the vendor as an item sold recently by another player.

    Fifth Quest
    # May 08 2001 at 7:32 PM Rating: Default
    This is madness:
Talk to Boraninn and he tells you to go see Rexx for next step:
About Prayer Shawl here's Rexx's Answer:

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardworm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete.

So if Crystalline Silk Threads are 3 Crystalline Silks combined:
You need, yes, 225 Crystalline Silks ! And you are supposed not to fail! Which means around 250-260 Crystallne Silks!

I camped wurms for two hours no Glowing Sharfworm Bile dropped in GD for now.

But the worst is that you must combine the shawl number 4 into a Tailoring Kit to get Shawl number 5.
This is madness! (its not even a quest, its a lottery!)
    RE: Wrong
    # Jul 18 2001 at 5:45 PM Rating: Default
GATHER 5 strands of thread, not make them from 3 silks, therefore 75 (minimum) to collect.

Besides, this should be posted under the 5th quest, not here in the 3rd.

The drop rate for the fibres is due to increase in the next patch, to make this a bit easier. Lets hope we get 10 shawl quest to match the 10 ring quests, so far these have been really fun! Raising Baking and Pottery skills arent so bad, but Tailoring is another story. Keep collecting those HQ pelts and silks, and you'll get the skill up in time. (I had my guild collecting as much as they could for me, and made them items for free, so it was a good trade for all of us, tailoring at 84 now)

    # May 09 2001 at 4:47 PM Rating: Default
    So, what, that is:

    5 (strands per fiber) x
    3 (fibers per piece) x
    5 (pieces for combine) =
    45 strands

    and

    1 (biles per fiber) x
    3 (fibers per peice) x
    5 (pieces for combine) =
    15 shardworm biles

I am told that the strands drop of spiders in V's Lab, and are not made from silk in CC. They are supposedly quite rare.

    *sigh*

Well, your math was off, but you're absolutely correct about the last part - Crystalline Silk Threads (needed for part 5) drop off the tougher spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth, Crystalline Silks are needed for the 4th part of the shawl quest (the Thurgadin Gate potion).

    Pot?
    # Apr 19 2001 at 5:55 AM Rating: Default
Need a little help here, when making the snowbunny stew(the second step) I made a pot by means of pottery. I put this pot, the saucy bunny meat, 2 waters, and sauce in the oven and I get the "do not combine in this container message" this was just before servers went down today.

What am I doing wrong? (am I putting the wrong items in the oven?)

Does my pot need a ceramic lining?

If so how do I put the pot and the lining together?

Or do I need a pot made by a blacksmith?
    RE: Pot?
    # Apr 22 2001 at 2:56 AM Rating: Decent
You misread the ingredients. After making the saucy bunny, you must put that, 2 flasks of water, a pot, and *spice* (not more sauce) in the oven (or spit). Good luck! :)

Goes without saying that the first recipies are easier then the latter. Anyway its been awhile since i did this quest and i dont remember all to well. However theres a great recipies list at EQtraders. It also lists the recipies for this quest and appropriate skill needed. Heres the url:
    http://www.eqtraders.com/secrets/recipes_baking.htm

Its the souffle thats the nasty part. Obtaining the snow grif eggs can be a drag and i didnt try before having a baking skill of 135. BTW if you really set your mind to it getting a skill of 135 isnt that hard. My advice is go to Freeport. Youll have all the needed supplies in that area. And if you dont mind about loosing a bit of money (in fact its a very cheap skill to raise) you can call yourself a master baker in no time. EQtrader has some great guides to becoming a master baker.

If I just want the of Seal of Thoridain, and am not trying to acquire any Coldain Prayer Shawls, what is the minimum I need to do? Do I still have to start the quest from the beginning (the Burlap Coldain Prayer Shawl and onward), just to get the Seal?

Actually if someone just wanted the seal they could start the 3rd quest by saying "what chore" to the guy. Make all the food to get the seal... and stop there.

    # Aug 25 2001 at 11:51 PM Rating: Decent
    Would this work?
What about the napkin you got when completing the previous shawl that you need to turn in?
I believe for the first part to work, you need to turn in the food plus Leif's Napkin in order to get the napkin to complete the 2nd person's food order.
    RE: Seal of Thoridain
    # Apr 17 2001 at 7:59 AM Rating: Default
Yep. You have to do the whole quest im afraid. Its not that hard, just time consuming. BTW being a Ranger, Bard or Druid does help alot; or have a friend in one of those classes. And if you find it easier you can also buy the Giant toes and heads from other players. They are not "no drop" so that will save you from the first 2 parts of the quest. Personaly it gave me a lot of satisfaction to chop off their heads and toes myself:)
    Next Part of Quest
    # Apr 09 2001 at 9:04 PM Rating: Default
There is another part to the quest. I haven't started it but this is how it goes:

You say,' What does the council have brewing?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh yes, good to see you again Fluteria. I wish it were under better circumstances that we meet today. For some time now we have sent teams of our finest rogues to gather intelligence for the Dain. Tanik Greskil is one of our best. He was recently sent into the heart of Kael Drakkel on a very important mission and has not returned. He is now long overdue, and fearing the worst, our wise council has asked me to dispatch a rescue party to determine what has become of him and return him to safety. I have decided to give you this opportunity to build upon the trust you have earned from the council. Will you accept this mission?'

You say, 'I will accept the mission'

Loremaster Borannin says 'The council will be pleased to hear of your acceptance, Fluteria. Scour the regions surrounding the city of the Giants. Discover what happened to Tanik and, if possible, return him to Thurgadin. If you are successful, remember to hand me your woven shawl. We seem to be running low on them, but I must say Mordin has never had so much help in the kitchen. Anyway, I will eagerly await word of your findings. Good luck, and may Brell protect you.

Has anyone done any more on this quest or know where to begin?

Ok let me try this again. Is the suffle recipe correct? I put 4 snow griffen eggs and the spice in the oven and hit combine. Got the red message "these items can't be combined in this container." Gave my spice back put kept my griffen eggs 8(. Do you have to make the stuff in sequence. I tried making the suffle first and was gonna keep it in the bank. Is it possible the last patch which is suppose to have it give your stuff back messed up this recipe?

Is the velium vial used in the fourth quest no drop? Or could I get a master potter to help me make it?
    RE: velium vial no drop?
    # Mar 31 2001 at 4:59 PM Rating: Default
Yes, the veliulm vial is no drop. But, the nice part of pottery is its ease to get the skill up. I went to the bank area and made medium bowls on the pottery wheel, and in about 40 minutes my skill was 122, at which point the velium vial is trivial.

    # Mar 18 2001 at 10:40 AM Rating: Decent
Ok the other day I was hunting snow griffs for the last part for the seal and I hadn't heard about the Tanik part of the quest yet. I was killing a griff when I heard Tanik casting behind me not to far from the dragon bridge in EW straight out in front of it but out of sight of it. I hailed Tanik and he asked for my help. so I said I would help him. he tells he is the last surivivor yadayada and he needs me to kill the leader of bunch of Giants that are tracking him and give him something the leader drops (didn't catch what he said it was). then he points to a nearby hill and says here they come over that hill. he then falls down instantly about 5 or 6 giants spawn at the hill he pointed to and come running. well being oom and not expecting this I ran the giants all stood over his body for about 30 seconds then they all despawned

perhaps this is a another way of doing the quest

aye that wasn't tanik...i forget his named but he lays on the ground like straight out from the bridge. if you hail him and say "i will help", a bunch of giants wil spawn, including 1 named one. you have to kill the named one and give the thing he drops back to the dorf.
