This quest series is active on Thorneblade, and we are still in PoR, level 70. In the last quest, the final mob, Galha was dark blue to me, but on this quest the mobs are quite red at 111-113. I ran diagonally to the river and realized I'd missed some things, went back and followed the shore, got the first update but no spawns, then a ways up the river were a stack of the red assassins. Seven were there, (tracking) and when I thought to at least see if it was doable, I snared one to pull it. All 7 aggroed and I ran and zoned.
I talked to some others who had finished and found I had missed an update with light blue assassins, went back and got them, and when I got to the shiny blue spot with 7 level 112s, we kited them away while pulling the light blue out of the pack. More assassins were white and yellow, and the final boss was yellow.

This task is triggered when completing the previous New Year task, Buried Too Deep.
This updates at the end of the docks around /loc -3983, -1569, -376.40 Pick the Cinnamon Spiced Nectar (blue shiny) nearby. This updates around /loc -4008, -2021, -380.63. An ambushing assassin spawns and attacks. Kill the assassin. When he dies, another assassin spawns and attacks, kill him too. They are level 110-112. Cinnamon Spiced Nectar is a blue shiny on top of the rock nearby. This updates around /loc -3850, -2563, -102.78. An ambushing assassin spawns and attacks. Kill the assassin. When he dies, another assassin spawns and attacks, kill him too. Cinnamon Spiced Nectar is a blue shiny by the river nearby. This updates around /loc -3200, -2670, -36.19 on the other side of the river. An ambushing assassin spawns and attacks. Kill the assassin. When he dies, another assassin spawns and attacks, kill him too. Cinnamon Spiced Nectar is a blue shiny by the river nearby. This updates around /loc -2666, -2973, +63.71. If you have a group, make sure only one of you updates the task as you near the shinies. The task will update for them, and 2 ambushing assassins spawn, and when you kill them, it will count for all members.
Otherwise, if one at a time go in, you have to kill 2 assassins for each member.
Step 3, east along shore, not NE. Step 12? Go Northeast, not North. It isn't far so be ready.
Make sure, that all group members get in for the task update of following the scent before killing each pair of assassins, and don't die, or else you may need to start over. The good news is that all you need to do is remove the quest, and use the egg to restart.

Quest log: Visit the docks in Stonebrunt Mountains.
At the land end of the dock is a glowing orb.
Approaching gives an update (sorry didnt write it down)
Picking it up reveals it to be a bottle of Cinnamon Spiced Nectar. You are then directed by the quest log to follow the scent marks northeast along the water.
There is a series of these Cinnamon Spiced Nectars, each one guarded by two assassins (111 and 112), that follow the water's edge and then up the river.
One on the shoreline, two up the river and finally one a little northeast of the second river set.
After killing the last set, the Quest Log directs you to give the egg to the Wrulon Protector, just northeast of the last fight.
Reward is experience, some money and a Baby Wrulon Familiar

When we returned to the location, two more assassins, level 113, had joined the two that had killed me. For the last fight there were two 111's and a 113.
This suggests extra mobs are added depending on the number and levels in the party.
Keep in mind, for each fight, the quest log still only mentioned two had to be killed.

Also just did this quest. The Cinnamon Spiced Nectar are No Trade, Temporary, Quest items that don't seem to be used at all other than for the steps of the task that require you to pick them up. As a level 115 Enchanter I encountered level 110 to 113 mobs until the boss, who was level 115.
After triggering the Task update on the dock in Stonebrunt, you follow the shore eastward to an area a short distance away that triggers another update. There i had to defeat 2 "ambushing assassin" female human rogues and then pick up the nectar nearby. The mobs attack one at a time, one after the other. Once both are dead the next step is to pick up the nearby Nectar. Then follow the shore eastward to the waterfall / river and northward up the river on the west bank until the next task update. Kill two more assassin and pick up another nectar and continue northward. The last triggered update was on the East bank a bit away from the river. Kill the last two "ambushing assassin" and then an "assassin commander". After defeating the boss the final task is to deliver the Stolen Phoenix Egg to the Wrulon Protector just NE of the location.
Task text upon turn in: The new year looks bright with fiery potential. You have safely delivered the stolen Phoenix Egg to its guardian.

The Baby Wrulon Familiar will summon a very small blue wrulon guardian familiar. If you have your pet targeted, it will change your pet into a blue wrulon guardian
