Speak to Ami at the gnome pirate camp.

You say, 'Hail, Ami'

Ami flips through a few pages of a small book, reading intently before answering you. 'Ye scurvy dog. I'll strike yer colors 'fore ya can put me on a gibbet. Take that, ya crimp!' She flips through a few more pages then smiles at you. 'Arrrr!'

You say, 'Ye scurvy dog!'

Ami grins. 'Hey, that's pretty good. You did it without a book too. Nice to meet you. I'm the bosun here.'

You say, 'What's a bosun?'

Ami says 'Yup. I think it means I'm in charge of the flag cause that's what the Cap'n told me to take care of. I'm the one who made our symbol, so I get to protect it. I even got my own copy of the grammar manual so I can practice my pirate speech.'

You say, 'What grammar manual?'

Ami nods and shows you the book for a moment. 'We don't have many of them and usually we share. My book is missing a chapter, though.'

You say, 'What chapter are you missing?'

Ami nods. 'A mate of mine borrowed the P Chapter to draw a map on but then he went and got himself lost. I've memorized the rest of the book but that chapter. Oh, well, I guess I can get by with what I have. Walk the mizenmast and batten down the boom!' She looks at you proudly. 'Good, eh? I'm one of the best pirates we have.'

Now go find "a lost pirate" on the northeast side of the island (hug the coast north from the dock).

You say, 'Hail, a lost pirate'

a lost pirate twitches and growls a little. 'Arrr. Grrr. Ahoy, mate. The name's Teep.' He shivers and you notice a little drool at the corner of his mouth. 'Ya ain't lost out here too, are ya?'

You say, 'I am not lost.'

a lost pirate grins and stares through you with a mad gleam in his eye. 'Hehehe. Yah, yer lost aren't ya. I can tell from the crazy sound o' yer voice. Too bad we ain't got me map. The map would lead us straight back ta camp. Yah, that it would, boyo.'

You say, 'What map?'

a lost pirate nods. 'After we got ourselves stuck on this island I got it in me head to draw up a map so none o' the crew would ever get lost. So I set myself to explorin' and drawin'. Now the map is gone. Too bad, too, cause it was a map o' the whole place, not just the first island, but a bunch o' parts.' Mention of the map seems to have sobered him up a bit.

[This is for a related quest to recover The Lost Map.]

You say, 'Ami wants Chapter P.'

a lost pirate stares at the water. 'I'm rememberin' that. Yah. Ami's book. Thats what I drew, erm, the fifth part o'n. It got lost in the ocean too.' He looks at you. 'Yer wantin' ta go out and find all o' these pieces?'

[Not sure what the next trigger phrase is, but go find "Snowfang fisher" on an ice floe south of the Tower of Frozen Shadow.]

You say, 'Hail, Snowfang fisher'

Snowfang fisher says 'Furless one wants something with snowfang? You here to help with curse?'

You say, 'What curse?'

Snowfang fisher growls as the other fisher-gnolls bark at the mention of the curse. 'Some days ago we found flat, strong, stretchy thing. Many scribbles, many marks on it. Ever since fish not come to us.. Rest of the snowfang think this is bad magic. To not believe this is foolish. But I not able to just get rid of bad magic.'

You say, 'What magic thing?'

Snowfang fisher says 'To cast away is not something we can do. Snowfang believe bad magic thrown away just make worse magic. Only way to get rid of badness is for friend to bring gift offering. Offering that means much to snowfang. If that is done magic is broken by the giving.'

You say, 'What offering?'

Snowfang fisher says 'Offering must be true and strong. To trade for anything else would be an insult to the spirits. If you want you can bring me true strong wooden pole and fine string for new pole. That would be true strong gift and maybe enough to break bad evil on this thing we find.'

You must go to the Wakening Land to get these items. "Strong Wooden Branch" drops rarely from holgreshes. "Strong Raptor Gut" drops rarely from tigeraptors.

Give these two items to the fisher.

Snowfang fisher sniffs the offering and seems to relax. 'Very good, very worthy. You take this magic thing, with you maybe this evil is broken.' Before he can hand you the parchment a roar explodes from the ocean and a gigantic dark shadow slams into the ice floe.

An "Enraged walrus" spawns and immediately attacks you. The gnoll fishermen will join in the battle against the walrus.

After killing it, "an agitated snowfang" spawns in its place.

You say, 'Hail, an agitated snowfang'

an agitated snowfang shivers and growls to itself. 'Much thanks must I give ______. Furless one still wants magic thing, after all the troubles? Say quickly. Much pain from attack. Must go, shaman help.'

You say, 'I want the magic thing.'

It gives you "Chapter P" and immediately despawns.

Go back to Ami and give her Chapter P.

Ami bounces excitedly. 'Oh! I've been needing this!' She reads over the pages intently. 'Uh. Pirate - A sea robber.' She scratches her head. 'I totally forgot we were supposed to be robbing people. Put down yer weapons and hand over yer platinum and gold ya port side bilge suckers! Heh. This is great. Thank you, ______' She grins and goes back to reading.

She gives you a "Pirate Grammar Manual."

Go see Nilham the Chef in a nearby igloo.

You say, 'Hail, Nilham the Chef'

Nilham the Chef says 'Ahoy, ______. Welcome ta the brig. I didn't get ta the 'B' section of my piratisms manual so I'm not sure what a brig is but I'm guessin' it means 'really small place without enough food or water.' So, ya here ta stay or just visitin'?'

Give Nilham the manual.

Nilham the Chef looks at you with a gleam in his eye. 'Wow. Ya actually got one. Thanks, mate! Here, you can have my cuffs. I'm tired of 'em and they're startin' ta chafe.' He flips through the book with a grin. 'B - Bilgewater. Barnacle brained blunderhead. Blast yer ballast...' Nilham happily reads through the book.

&#^$(*#$&#$ Yesterday I started this quest...7 hours SEVEN hours I killed those damn raptor's and FINALLY one dropped the guts. Then I went on to the Holgresh cave and spent 2 hours there and no luck yet on the stick drop, I swear is this just a ranger thing? There is another ranger who posted that said he killed about 300 holgresh's and no drop /sigh Well I guess I'll start killing them some more!

Since the Vah Shir are a new race I noticed they have not been included in all the race wearable sections for the items here. So I`m wonderin if anyone knows if a Vah Shir bard can wear this?

I tried to do this quest tonight, and the snowfang fisherman did not spawn the walrus. yes he responded to "What curse?". No message about the items in my text as well. Nothing about "uh, thanks", "I need more items.."

Also, he no longer respondes to the "What curse?". I filled out a bug report, but as usual: Everything is fine.

Be careful.

You must have given them to the wrong guy. When its says the wandering fisher it means the one that is not on the ice flow. He usually is running on the main island near the camp. When i am in iceclad there are usually three Fishers. So iwent up to each one till one responded. And it was the last one i tried*L* and he was running around. That is why he did not respond to you .You hailed the wrong one. The quest works jsut make sure you hail the correct fisher.

No it is not broken, I just did it last night on Bristlebane server, it worked fine for me and my party started and finished it in about 3 hours. Hardest part was getting the Strong Stick to drop. It was a fiarly easy quest and well worth it on the reward. If you are thinking of diong it I would recomend it. The flying monky that dropped it was a random pull so you do not need elders from the caves. Good luck to everyone.

OK, having done this last night, I thought I would try and pull all the information together and hopefully answer all the questions. Did this with my level 50 Paladin and had a level 44 Paladin with me (did get some assistance from a 52 SK who was the only other person in zone).

First things first, skip talking to any NPCs and get yourself to Wakening Land. One thing to be careful is if you get a port in to WL, make sure you are not KOS to Wuoshi who guards the dragon ring portal, or make sure he is not up. I did the latter in EC, just /ooc and got 3 responses that he was NOT up. Only other options would be to get to GD and run through Kael, which is not a good option unless you are on Giant faction. Or get a port to CS and hoof it through SS. This also may pose faction and other problems. However you do it, just get to WL :) once there, be careful of a couple nasty mobs. First, a Corrupted Unicorn. Red to me and had a pet. Looked really nasty. Also got aggroed by some ogre guy who had a pet, he was dark blue and took me down quite a bit, but wasn't too tough with two people. Also, plenty of fairie dragons which were indifferent to me. Wouldn't recommend attacking one. Plus plenty of wandering Holgresh, which I will talk about later.

I would recommend getting the raptor guts first, as this is much easier. Now if you have a tracker, you can do this differently, but for those without a tracker (like me) this is easy to do. Head to the SS zone and just to the north of it but in sight of the SS tunnel is a small ledge where 6 Tigeraptors spawn. At level 50, 4 were green and 2 were light blue to me. I was able to single pull all of them with an arrow. Of the 6 raptors, we got 2 guts (graphic for it is same as rope). Piece of cake, now comes the hard part.

For the Holgresh, we decided to head south to the Holgresh cave. Figured we would sit in front of the cave and try and single pull them outside. First of all, these Holgresh seem to have a pretty large aggro radius. Right in front of the cave you get Holgresh that path nearby, so adds were frequent. They don't do a whole lot of melee damage, but their spells pack a wallop. I was getting hit regularly for 200 points a shot. In retrospect I should have memmed every stun spell I had and chain stunned them. Anyway, they are not hard to kill, but they do a lot of damage, plus the conjurer has the obligatory annoying pet (seems every mob in the zone had to have a pet). Another problem we ran into was trying to pull them from the cave. Not sure exactly how this worked, but I'll explain what happened. We would try and pull one out, and get blasted with their spells, usually 1 or 2 bubs of health before the puller could get out. Then they would never appear, they would get stuck in the ground somehow (known issue, Verant does not acknowledge as a bug /rude). We would be standing in front of the cave, and just get blasted. Anyway, twice this happened and both times we had to zone to SS to lose aggro. After about 15 or so kills we had looted 2 strong branches (graphic was a fishing pole).

Now came the problem of getting out. If you don't have someone in your group who can port you out, then I suggest having a gate potion on you. Or knowing someone you can get to come pick you up. Otherwise you have to run through Kael. With invis and SOW, probably not hard, although there are some giants in there who see invis. However you do it, get yourself to Iceclad.

Once in Iceclad, head to the Tower of Frozen Shadows. Just to the southeast of the gnoll camp are a couple floating icebergs, with gnolls on them. You are looking for the one that has a couple "Snowfang Fisher" on it. Hail them until one responds with something, and if you then say "What curse?" he will go into his spiel. After that, hand him the raptor guts and the stick. Immediately the walrus will spawn. Make sure you get aggro quick, you don't want the Snowfang Fisher to die. After the walrus dies and you loot the corpse (nothing on it), the Snowfang Fisher turns into an Agitated Gnoll. Target him and say "I want the magic item" and he immediately poofs and you now hold Chapter P. Run up to the igloos and you will find Ami standing right outside. No need to go into the script, just hand her the Chapter P. She gives you a book in return. Go into one of the igloos and find Nilam the Chef. Again, no script here, just hand him the book Ami gave you.

You have gained experience!

You now have the Ice Forged Shackles in your inventory (make sure you have an open slot before turning in to Nilam the Chef). Total time for us to do it was 2 and half hours. Now, we had to do this twice in a row, so after we spawned the walrus the first time and got Chapter P from the Agitated Gnoll, it was 15 minutes for the fishermen to spawn again. A few actually spawned earlier, but for the quest one it took exactly 15 minutes. Good luck!

Got my stick tonite, broke the hogresh cave with a few friends ( 2 wizzies. a cleric and a druid), got 2 sticks in less than 3 spawn cycles.

We was after a wizzie spell so thats why we killed em after I got my stick :)

At my level the Holgresh are easy kills, never dropped below 3 and a half bubs of health, only difficulty was the occasionally aggro from above when in the tunnel to the cave.

Hey all, I did the quest last night and I want to tell you abou tit to clear things up

First was the tigeraptors, I'm a 47 twinked warrior so I could solo them, but not the tigesaurouses. It took two days to get a gut, but in the end it came from a raptor /shrug.

Second , the holgreshes. They're flying monkeys. I suggest bringing along a tracker and if you face out from the SS cave go right and try to track them. Bring a 52+ tank to pull ( they wont aggro if its 52+ ) because in the cave they will all come out and nuke the hell outta you. The branch dropped within an hour or two, and two dropped but I lost the roll. They're pretty easy to kill with a good group . ( i had a 43 warrior, 41 pally, 52 pally, 57 bard { didnt really need bard } and a 44 druid ).

Now you head up to Iceclad where the gnoll fisher camp is. it's right near Tower of Frozen Shadow, right there down on the icebergs. There are lots of gnoll fishers, but the gnoll fisher you need is the one that responds to " what curse ". Other than that, do NOT hand in your items ( may work but i dont suggest it ). Then an enranged walrus spawns directly on top of you. DO NOT ATTACK IMMEDIATELY, you will still have the fisher targeted and will attack him and almost ruin the whole damn thing. Just wait and click on the warlus. After he dies ( i soloed the walrus ) , he turns into an agitated gnoll that wont respond to anything. He despawns and a second later the Chapter P is in your hand. Go to Ami the Buson ( her name is just ami, little gnome lady by the flag ) and hand her the chapter p . Right in front of you to the left or right there is an igloo ( cant remember which one , think its to the left ), inside is the brig holding Nilam the Chef. Give him the book that ami gave you ( you can read it its pretty cool ) and he gives you the shackles.

10ac 5 str/dex/agi 30 hp proc of a 12dd nuke from melee range, cannot be casted from inv.
( the bracer adds about 1 more ac when put on. vs crafted which is 10 ac my ac went up by 1 /shrug )

I hope this works for y'all

No, you cannot solo this quest unless you are extremely uberlucky. The TigerRAPTORS should be a piece of cake for you, but the TigerSAURUSES will turn you into an uber rogue corpse. Even if you manage to kill a Tigersaurus, you'd have to be at full health at the beginning of the encounter, get no adds, and get in a good backstab at the beginning. Tigersauruses are the kind of mobs that you want to use poisons on. I suggest using a haste-reduction poison. Bring lots of bandages and suspension fluid because it took me no less than about 80, yes *80*, raptors before one dropped his guts.

The holgresh are entirely different mobs. They will nuke you to death quickly. Unless you can chain-stun them (which is how I killed them), and are at full health, and have on all your resist gear, and never get any adds, then you could probably kill one at a time from the wanderers outside the cave. Your downtime will be long though. Expect to get the stick once every 30 kills.

Reason why the Bracer added 1 more AC than your Crafted was because of the +5 AGI. It looks like I am gonna have to try taking down a Holgresh. Can anyone recommend which kind I should track and take out?

WL appears bugged to hell ... You can expect to go LD, you can expect your corpse to be hidden by a tree, and you can expect the Guides to not help ... You can expect SS to be down, and you'll be randomly teleported to "SAFE SPOT" which happens to be in the path of a HUGE train of Giants near Kael. Again you can expect the Guides to verify that SS is down, but still they wont help :-)

Ummm, well ... I killed about 50 Raptors before I got a Raptor guts ... I was actually hunting for Hides, and so killed another after the Guts dropped .. guess what .. more guts ...

I've been meaning for awhile to do this quest, ( I have a 57 Druid to help me out ) and finally bought velious. Anyways I was looking under what the Holgresh's dropped and it doesnt say " A Strong Stick " or anything close to it? Will the " Mojo Sticks " work? I also looked under The Tiger raptors, and it did'nt say it dropped any guts. I was wondering if someone could give me the exact name of the stick and guts, so I dont ***** up and waste about a day to do it.
Thanks, Please E-Mail me at ChipStatic@hotmail.com is you've done this quest and can help me out.

I did this quest solo as a 45 bard, here's my tale...

I didn't actually know of this quest, but I was hunting the Tigeraptors and Tigesaurous's that wander around the Skyshrine side of WL. I got the Strong Raptor Guts after a dozen kills or so and decided to look up on Allakhazams what they were for. After some research I logged back in an went to hunt the Holgresh.

These meanies, eventhough I gather they mostly con green to a 46 (or light blue now I guess) have a nice array of nukes and laugh in the face of the 'range to target' rules we all have to obey =/ So, I found myself a Tigesauros, charmed it and used it to smack some discipline into them. I spent 6 hours hunting, got 3 mojo sticks and 2 level 39 spells (and some cash loot which sold to merchant for 140pp total) Finally I decided 3am was past my bedtime and called it a day.

Tried again today and first kill dropped the Strong Wooden Branch. Rushed over to Iceclad and headed to the gnolls. The gnoll you want is 'a gnoll fisher' and responds to the cry of 'what curse'. Hand him the goodies and the walrus pops immediately. I took a few hits before realising I wasn't designed to melee this thing so I stood back and chained, and double dotted - letting the nearby Spearguard do the tanking. Kept watching his health though, and was prepared to step in and take some hits if it looked like he was going to buy the farm. I gather it's a bad idea to let the walrus kill the gnoll you were speaking to.

So, walrus down, did the rest of the dialogue and got the page. Headed over to gnomes. Tracking said Stormfeather was up so I got myself the 2nd part of the map (for the eyepatch quest).

Did the dialogue here and got my shackles!

Nice stats but bards should be aware that you can only cast the Velium Shards when you are not singing/playing a song. The 2 second cast time will effectively mean this effect would substitute one of your songs in your combat lineup.

Nice graphic too +)

Anyone know if they nerfed this item? I tried to help a bard do this quest tonight, and we killed Holgresh for more than 6 hours and no branch. We killed all types of them, even killed the named Grand Vizier guy.

I heard that this was an uncommon drop, but I never dreamed it could be this rare. Anyone else have the same trouble as of 11-12-01?

My 47th level Ranger did this quest the other night and it was actually pretty fun. This quest is basically pretty straight forward and it's made better since everything you need is located in one zone. Anyway, before you start, I would suggest that you have at least one of the following: a druid partner, a ranger partner, or great tracking skills.

First of all, WL is not exactly zone that you want to go wandering around and floicking in. Woushi, the dragon, is one reason why everyone needs to be on their toes. Another reason is that you'll need tracking to find the Tigeraptors and Holgresh that are scattered all over the zone. Also, the presence of mercs and wandering frost giants can complicate things a bit. Finally, if you have a ranger or a druid buddy with you, it makes hunting Tigeraptors a lot more easier since they can cast "Snare" and "Fear Animal." This means a lot less down time and a lot more hunting time since these bad boys, espeically the Tigersauras, hit pretty hard.

Now killing any Holgresh will drop the stick. It's a somewhat uncommon drop but you can usually find them off of conjurers. Moreover, the strong stick is known as the "Strong Wooden Branch." It's one of the same. But, IMHO, the hardest part is finding Raptor guts; even though the raptors are pretty easy to kill with "fear animal." Had to kill tons of them before one of them dropped because apparently, Tigersaurases don't drop the guts; only hides.

Once you get those two items, go back to Ice Clad and go to the Snow Gnoll camp. Contrary the info above, there is NO wandering gnoll fisherman. Instead, it's just one of the Snow Gnoll Fisherman located near their camp. And to find out if you got the right one, go up to one of them and say "What Curse?" Appearently that's the key word that will start the dialog and the quest. Hand the two items to the Snow Gnoll Fisherman and an Enraged Walrus will spawn.

Now here's the important stuff. It's important that you kill the walrus fast. If the other gnoll fishermen KS you or if the walrus kills any of the fishermen, the quest is ruined and you'll have to start all over. This is unconfirmed but I've heard that many people had problems in this part of the quest. Once the walrus is dead, an Agitated Gnoll or an Irritated gnoll will spawn close to a location between the walrus's body and the gnoll fishermen. Follow through with the rest of the quest and you'll get your nice new toy. Please note that this quest may differ between servers, but that's how I did this quest in the INNORUUK server. Have fun and good hunting.
RE: Clearing Up the Facts
# Nov 11 2001 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
you do NOT need to kill the walrus first. I thought my quest was ruined because the gnolls got the kill, but the gnoll DOES still spawn and you can still get the chapter P.

Well, it took 15 rapturs and 4 sauruses to get the strong raptur guts. In the end the guts dropped off the raptur.

I could solo the rapturs as a level 40 warrior with 1800 hps. The tigersauruses are impossible at this level because they hit so dam hard.

The tigerapturs spawn as doubles sometimes but i could still pull both the zone, kill one, zone out, bandage back up, then come in and kill the other.

This method only worked when a higher level broke the camp, then i could pull for hours after that.

Hope this info is helpful.

On to the Holgresh......

I can say by exsperiance the stick drop is not I repeat is NOT 1 for 8 drop. We tried to get it to drop for 2 hours after 34 kills we had to sleep. Seems these spawns are off. Takes alot of luck

Did this quest last night on my lvl 34 Warrior, didn't really have any probs, but a few things are different. First off we Killed Many Tigeraptors, and Tigesaurouses before the gut Finally dropped, and it came from the Tigesaurous. I also got about a stack of Tigeraptor hides during this time which is used for the velious tailored ranger armor. We got lucky on the Strong wooden Branch, after about 8 dead holgresh it dropped. Next I looked for the wandering gnoll fisherman, and it took a few minutes before I realized that it was not named that. It's actually any of the Snowfang Fishers, just say "cure" and he will talk to you. Then give him the branch and guts, and the Walrus will pop right on you, and he will turn into "An Agitated Gnoll" Quickly kill the walrus, he hits pretty good, but a couple people around 40ish should have no prob, my war was lvl 34 with my brothers lvl 56 necro Monk pet, =). After you kill the walrus hail "An Agitated Gnoll" and say I want the magic item. He will then poof, and give you the Chapter P, take that to Ami at the Igloos, And then she will give you the Pirate Grammar Manual. Give that to Nilham the chef, then he gives you the Shackles. Hope my experience with this quest Helps.

LOL, my own fault for doing it, but I just want to clear up something in this post. Rapture guts drop about 1 in 30 times. Strong branch drops maybe 1 in 8 drops. But after you gather up all your items to give the Snowfang fisher. Don't say "cure" and give him the items. Say "What curse?" Now I'm doing this one again. =)

Lots of people will tell you to let the gnolls fight the walrus when it spawns. This is absolutely the worst advice. The walrus is a tough hard hitting ******* and can easily kill the original fisherman who is going to give you chapter P after the walrus is dead. If he dies, you have to start allllll over again. It happened to me and I'm furious about it after placing faith in the "let the gnolls fight it" advice and it only turned into a huge disappointment and embarassment. At a "maximum", let the gnolls assist you but make sure you do most of the hit giving and hit taking to be ensure that the fisherman does not die.

On the items, if you are a ranger, use "panic animal" spell on the tigeraptors and they are easy pickins. You'll get the "strong raptor guts" in no time. It looks like a rope or cloth belt like we all started with as newbies.

On the holgresh, definitely get some assistance and a HEALER. If you are over 50, you can solo them if you are well equipped, have good fire resist and have sound wisdom on the creatures and area. I went to the holgresh cave and to pull them I inched my way down to the main vestibule where they all hang out until I was in aggro range for "one" of them and attacks me. Then just lead it half way down the cave and attack. You can also just wait in the tunnel and about every 5-10 minutes a solo holgresh will fly out of the cave, then you can just pounce on him. A "strong wooden branch" will drop about 5% of the time and it looks like a fishing pole.
