This 23rd anniversary task starts with Krastoraab Puremane in Shar Vahl. He can be found at /waypoint -496, 79, -190 at the entrance of Shar Vahl coming in from Shadeweaver's Thicket. He can also be found via the find tool CTRL F.

You say, 'Hail, Krastoraab Puremane'

Krastoraab Puremane smiles warmly in your direction before he begins to speak, 'Ah, another who is on the path of enlightenment as am I. My name is Krastoraab and I am a devout follower of the cycle. You may be asking yourself, 'Which [cycle] does he mean?' I will be happy to answer any questions you must have.'

You say, 'cycle'

Krastoraab Puremane says, 'The cycle is an ever stable force between life and death that must be maintained in order to retain the balance of life and death. Should one of these faculties fault, then our entire existence as we know it would cease to be. This cycle, the cycle of loss and rebirth, is perpetuated by the work of [Ehayae and Drinal].'

You say, 'Ehayae and Drinal'

Krastoraab Puremane says, 'I'm glad you asked about them. Many misinterpret the actions of the Matron of the Dawn and the Silver Reaper as respectively good and evil. However, these scholars could be no further from the truth about the deeds that Ehayae and Drinal perform. Their work is often misrepresented due to the nature of their respective offices. Drinal, known for his representation of death, destruction, and night, is often confused with being considered an evil god that is bent on the destruction of life. This is not something Drinal wishes to do out of anger or malice toward the living. This is his duty. Easy it is of the sower to take the credit for the crop, but the crop will not be able to grow without the [Reaper].'

You say, 'Reaper'

Krastoraab Puremane's face glows brighter before continuing, 'I'm more than happy to continue discussing the Silver Reaper with you! Most people look upon him and think that he takes pleasure in culling the life from Norrath. However, without him, the flow of life will grow stagnant and the natural order is thrown off. He doesn't perform his tasks out of glee or happiness over the misery he causes. He performs his duties because he has to. Without his precious work, we would never grow. We would never change. We would never live our fullest lives in the first place. He teaches us with his merciful work that nothing is permanent, and that you can never really lose someone until you let them go, and that loss is a part of a bigger cycle. Dry your tears and rejoice in the cycle! Do this and you too will be renewed by the [Matron of the Dawn] with a new sunrise!'

You say, 'Matron of the Dawn'

Krastoraab Puremane says, 'The 'Matron of the Dawn' is the other name for Ehayae. Her position is often misinterpreted as that of a benevolent being. However, her work is to sow life back into Norrath, and this task is not done out of the goodness of her heart. Once you reap your crop, you are left with a field that needs tending to before it can grow life again. While Drinal ferries the newly reaped souls to their next form, Ehayae is busy sowing life back onto Norrath. She sows the life, then lets nature take over and whatever happens to that soul through its growth is up to their will to thrive. Whether they take root and climb higher than the other stalks, or they fail to thrive and rot, this is not the work of Ehayae. This would be akin to blaming a farmer when a chef fails to prepare a meal to your liking. The misguided pray in a foolish attempt to Ehayae for special treatment of their children. I have a [lesson] for you, if you wish to know more about the forces of the cycle.'

You say, 'lesson'

You have been assigned the task 'Death Finds a Way'.

Krastoraab Puremane's face is positively beaming with excitement as you show even the slightest interest in the subject at hand. 'Wonderful! As I have mentioned before, some try to give extra gifts to Ehayae when they are expecting a child. This is considered an act of great offense to Ehayae as she sees these types of offerings as a bribe. The point of the dauntless, unrelenting cycle is that none of us are better than each other at the moment of our creation. We are all born of the same equal potential. There is someone who is staying in Shar Vahl who has set up an offering to Ehayae while they are here. Who this is, is not important. Find their offering and bring it to me. This may sound like a cruel prank to do to an expecting parent, but the sage they used for this offering is toxic, especially to newborns. This parent's intentions are pure but they need to be enlightened to the offerings they give. The only reason I am aware of this sage being burned is because it's pungent and I can smell it from here.'

On Norrath, there is a cycle of life and death that must be maintained. THis cycle will happen no matter what forces are at play. Take some time to hear the tales of those who have long passed and learn lessons about the cycle of Drinal and Ehayae.

Krastoraab in Shar Vahl has asked you to collect an incorrectly used offering to Ehayae hidden away somewhere in Shar Vahl.

  • 1. Bring the offering to Krastoraab in Shar Vahl 0/1 Shar Vahl

In the far northwest part of the city, there is a 2 story building. You will see 2 Honor Guard's (Honor Guard Siiv and Honor Guard Ishouz) on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

On the south side of the building, go upstairs to the 2nd floor and go in the door. In the far north room, on a chest of drawers is an item that looks like a torch burning at /waypoint 446, 407, -166, pick it up. It is the Toxic Ehayae's Offering. It has a respawn timer of 6 minutes.

    Hand this into Krastoraab.
Your task 'Death Finds a Way' has been updated.

Krastoraab Puremane says, 'Thank you for this. I will dispose of this offering and create a new one to replace it with. In the meantime, there are a few spirit elders I want you to speak to about the cycle. These are other disciples of the cycle who have passed but remain to tell their tales to anybody who will listen to them about the cycle. The shroud around Shar Vahl grows thin during these times, and those spirits can be found located around this city. Find them, hear their tales, and come back to me. The first one is named Jonus. You may need to search for him indoors. I do not know the full tale as to why these spirits stay where they are anchored, but they will not stay anchored for long.'

  • 2. Speak with Jonus and hear his tale 0/1 Shar Vahl

Jonus is in the northwest section of the zone back near the same building where you found the torch. Jonus is on the find tool CTRL F.

Hail Jonus to get the update.

Jonus Siedel speaks in a grizzled, rough tone. The spirit's eyes look sunken, as if he had seen a lifetime of regret before meeting his untimely end. 'Hail adventurer!' His voice sounds like he needs to cough but can't. 'You wish to hear my tale, eh? I'm afraid it's nothing special, though I suppose that is why it is so insidious. I was a mortician and spent my life servicing the recently deceased so that they could have a good transition to the next life. I worked very hard. I was proud of my work. I eschewed a life of a family man so that I could hone my skills until one day I would surpass my mentors. I spent my life serving Drinal, believing that my work would prepare me for the afterlife. My work is known to many, though nobody knows my name anymore. Learn from me child. I spent my living days preparing the dead for the same journey I knew i too would be on someday, but didn't spend any time preparing myself. Look for Lorelei. She will be the next spirit you wish to speak to about the cycle.'

  • 3. Speak with Lorelei and hear her tale 0/1 Shar Vahl

She is located in corner of the city not far from the building where you found the burning sage. She is on the find tool CTRL F.

Hail her to get the update.

Lorelei Carversbane barks with a booming voice, triumphant and strong! 'Adventurer! Don't let that sad sack, Jonus, keep you from living your life to the fullest! Take it from me! I was a sellsword who spent her life protecting others. My living days were spent beside many an adventurer much like yourself who wished to best the horrors on Norrath for a brighter future. I have seen many adventures, caves, errands, tasks, drinks, jobs, donnybrooks, conflict, strife, and riches! All will eventually be dust. Somewhere in the annals of the history books, there are countless tales of all of the findings and adventures that I have seen. Yet, due to my role as a sellsword, my name was long forgotten. Glory means nothing when nobody cares about who performed the heroic acts needed! The cycle is set to its own pace. No matter how much you try to speed it up, you will not be able to influence it. Now, don't be too sad about these tales. Speak with Salk and hear their story!'

  • 4. Find and hear what Salk has to say 0/1 Shar Vahl

Salk is located not far from the gate leading out to Hollowshade Moor bridge.

    Hail Salk for the update.

Salk Hopfit responds with a soothing, soft tone in their voice when they address you, 'Greetings traveler. You spoke with Jonus and Lorelei about their cautionary tales. You would be wise to follow the messages they are trying to give you about the cycle. While the cycle is finite, it cannot be predicted. From where there may be ruin, comes triumph. From wherever there is life, there is death, and from wherever there is death, life will someday sprout. Ehayae can sow life, but that life still needs to fight to thrive and grow. It isn't as simple as planting a seed in rich soil. What about those who can thrive where even life cannot? What drives them? Return to whoever it was that told you to seek us out. There is nothing more we can teach you today about the cycle of life and death.'

  • 5. Return to Krastoraab 0/1 Shar Vahl

    Hail him for the update.

    You say, 'Hail, Krastoraab Puremane'

You have been given: Offering to Sahteb Mahlni
Your task 'Death Finds a Way' has been updated.

Krastoraab Puremane says, 'I see you return from speaking to my colleagues. Those spirits were former disciples of the cycle, much like myself. While they still perform their duties, even in death, eventually they too will dissipate and become nothingness, ready to be sown by Ehayae, and culled by Drinal. There is a third entity within the cycle that many people forget is a part of life and death. This entity is Sahteb Mahlni, who is a powerful animal spirit. Many forget the drive it takes to thrive. This constant need to better oneself in one's own existence comes from Sahteb Mahlni. True understanding of how the cycle works stems from understanding that your primal instinct to fight comes from somewhere. Speak with Sineb, one who understands this aspect of rebirth more than any others. They can be found here in Shar Vahl, though they don't find much solace from within the city walls. Bring them this offering. They will know why you are there when they see this.'

  • 6. Deliver the offering to Sineb in Shar Vahl 0/1 Shar Vahl

Sineb is on the southern ledge of the city outside the gate walls on the southeast side.

Hand in Offering to Sahteb Mahlni to Sineb.

Your task 'Death Finds a Way' has been updated.

Sineb snorts in the air as you approach. 'You approach me? Then you are not someone who takes the seriousness of the cycle for granted. The cycle churns endlessly. However, it takes a special kind of strength to thrive within the cycle, even without being aware of it. That drive comes from Sahteb Mahlni. They imbue us with the primal urge needed to grow and prosper while alive. All living creatures house this energy. It is required in order to grow. Without it, we would simply not have any drive, there would be no progress, there would be no strength. The wisdom that one can gain by understanding one's animal instincts and how they are used to strive to create a better world for the pack, not just the individual. If one is to know of the cycle, they must know of Sahteb Mahlni. To prove your understanding, I need you to bring me an offering to Drinal. This offering is something that is carried by the Darkpaw clan in the Jaggedpine Forest. Bring me one of these idols.'

  • 7. Locate an Offering to Drinal 0/1 Jaggedpine Forest

Sineb has asked you to bring them an Offering to Drinal. These can be found on the Darkpaw clan members found in the Jaggedpine Forest.

Go to Jaggedpine Forest to the gnoll cave in the north part of the zone. Kill gnolls until you loot a Offering to Drinal. I got mine off a Darkpaw curate.

  • 8. Deliver the offering to Sineb in Shar Vahl 0/1 Shar Vahl

Upon turnin of: Offering to Drinal

Your task 'Death Finds a Way' has been updated.
Sineb says, 'You return to me. This is most excellent! You also found an offering! Some of the Darkpaw clan believe that having this offering on them at the time they pass will help pay for their passage with Drinal, in hopes of a smoother transition between lives. This goal is ultimately futile. Though Drinal does appreciate the offerings, he does not have any control over when a soul will be sown again. It is the spirit of Sahteb Mahlni that keeps us putting one paw in front of the next. You will keep this in mind with your journeys, adventurer. Return to Krastoraab. He will be more than delighted to hear about your thoughts on the cycle.'

  • 9. Return to Krastoraab 0/1 Shar Vahl

    You say, 'Hail, Krastoraab Puremane'
Your task 'Death Finds a Way' has been updated.

Drinal, Ehayae, and Sahteb Mahlni are three of the forces that keep the ebb and flow of life continuing on Norrath. Drinal is the Silver Reaper who culls lives in order to ferry souls to their next stages. Ehayae is known as the Matron of the Dawn and is responsible for sowing life across all of Norrath. However, the primal forces that drive the living to thrive come from Sahteb Mahlni, the Feral Spirit.
    You receive 225 platinum .
    You receive alternate currency.
Krastoraab Puremane says, 'There you have it, my friend. You now can continue your journeys with the knowledge of the cycle of life and death. There are important lessons within each of these tales. The beauty of the wisdom of the cycle is that you have to be comfortable not knowing the unknowable. Many confuse 'not knowing' as a weakness when in reality, it is impossible for one to know all. Many scholars have lived and died while pondering the very same lesson. The lesson here is that there is no lesson. Sometimes we have to say goodbye early and sometimes we say goodbye far too late for it to matter. There may not be a grand scheme that is being unfolded before your eyes, but life and death are all around us and are an inevitable part of our consciousness. Grow strong in your journey.'
