This needs to be added to the category of Partisan of Shadow Valley, with Catching Lightning and Exploring Shadow Valley as related Quests.

Treading on Dangerous Territory

You can obtain this quest from Daerius Jaegir. He can be found near the zone in from Basilica of Adumbration. He is on the find tool CTRL F.
Prerequisites: Catching Lightning and Exploring Shadow Valley's Burn Scars. 1. Talk to Daerius Jaegir about the [toxic] results 0/1 ALL You say, 'I don't know anything about what is happening. It sounds like Methinon invited a bunch of Barbarians to invade this land. The first invasion went poorly, and the subsequent rescue missions have also failed.' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Those Barbarians aren't the most [forthcoming].' You say, 'I have found most of them to be less than forthcoming. But Istoph Banock did mention that she had family that went missing.' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Banock. That name sounds familiar. I have heard that name before. You should look to the Basilica for more information on that family. I digress. The samples that you have brought me, from the creatures and the fulgurites, seem to be [toxic].' You say, 'Toxic? I have been carrying those around!' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Yes, they have an interesting effect. The shadows mixed with this power. It [really want]s to keep its secret.' You say, 'How can rocks really want anything?' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Look where you stand. This land belongs to one goddess and she holds [dominion] over all you see.' You say, 'She does not have dominion over me.' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Indeed. And perhaps over some of the other creatures here. There are shadow wolves to the west of here, that may also have been altered. I believe these unfortunate creatures were lost in this land and changed by their experiences here. Bring me any clues of their alteration and we may get to the bottom of this mystery.' 2. Hunt Shadow Wolves for proof of deception 0/6 (Shadow Valley) 3. Loot the Shadowed Subjugation Collars 0/6 (Shadow Valley) Shadowed Subjugation Collar drops off a shadow wolf and an umbra wolf. They CANNOT be prelooted. 4. Return Shadowed Subjugation Collars to Daerius 0/6 (Shadow Valley) 5. Walk with Daerius Jaegir about [the collars] 0/1 (Shadow Valley) You say, 'the collars' Daerius Jaegir says, 'You can feel the power emanating from these collars. There is a formidable resolve here. I am curious about the other creatures you have [come across]?' You say, 'I have come across grim shades and drifting shadows.' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Do you think any of them [could have] put those collars on the wolves?' You say, 'I think they both could have been capable of doing it.' Daerius Jaegir says, 'Maybe I should [go look] into their abilities.' You say, 'I can go look for you, since you're so busy.' 6. Collect the Residue of Shadow 0/6 (Shadow Valley) Residue of Shadow drops off grim shades and drifting shadows. They can be prelooted. 7. Return the Residue of Shadow to Daerius 0/6 (Shadow Valley) 8. Talk with Daerius Jaegir about [the residue] 0/1 (Shadow Valley) 9. Defeat the shade assassin 0/1 (Shadow Valley) Protect yourself from the shaded assassin. An NPC called "a shaded assassin" will spawn and charge you at this state. This NPC spawns just a bit NW of Daerius. It only spawned for me when everyone in the group was at this part of the task. The whole group will get credit. 10. Talk with Daerius Jaegir about the [shaded assassin] 0/1 (Shadow Valley) Talk with Daerius Jaegir about what the assassin means. With this quest, you do not want to pre-loot anything except the residue. If someone in your group has, say, 4 collars, less will drop and even none.
Example: We had 2 players needing the shadow wolf collars and wolf kills. Unbeknownst to me, one of them already had 6 collars but I handed 5 to him anyway (cuz I didn't know). They were dropping 1 at a time, and we got 4 collars total and they stopped dropping, leaving one player 4/6. I told the first player to destroy 5 of his 12, but it didn't work. Then we had him destroy another so he was 5/6. A collar dropped the next wolf kill, we left it on the corpse, same with the next, and the next, until 3 remained. Then we could hand them out and were done with that, for them.
Later, another player joined who needed the collars, and already had 3/6. We killed wolves and had 2 more dropped, bringing him to 5/6, but no more dropped. We killed a mob, and no collars dropped so I had him delete a collar, leaving him 4/6, and one dropped. I asked him to delete another, leaving him at 3/6. Then we killed 2 more wolves until 3 collars were on the corpses and then he looted those 3, to make him 3/6.
Clicking on his prompt about "residue" will not update the quest, so type "the residue".
For the shaded assassin you need to all be at the same stage in the quest (kill the shaded assassin), have a full group (mercenaries count) and repeat the line to him, if saying it one time won't spawn it, say it multiple times. (you can use Shift up arrow) It appeared that people in the group who already had completed the quest counted as being at the same stage.
As with the other tasks in ToL, leave them on the corpses as long as you can before handing them out, and do not pre-loot anything except the residues.
