Find Gunlok Jure (Paladin Guildmaster) in the Paladin guild hall in North Kaladim. He's on Find (Ctrl+F). He's on Clerics of Underfoot faction.

    You say, 'Hail, Gunlok Jure'

Gunlok Jure says 'Hail, _____! Bow before the greatness of the Clerics of Underfoot! It is good to be a paladin in such an order as ours - to fight the good fight and defend Kaladim from the evil and undead. If you be a paladin, then I pray you find the [courage to battle the undead].'

You say, 'I have the courage to battle the undead'

Gunlok Jure says 'Yes!! To battle the undead is our greatest call. There has been a rise in the number of dwarven skeletons seen in the Butcherblocks. If you are a true member of this order, I shall reward you for the return of four bone chips. We shall defend our land from evil!'

You can now turn in bone chips in stacks.

Gunlok Jure says 'You have done well. We thank you for your deed with this humble reward. The power behind the raising of our dead shall soon be found. You will earn more respect with more bone chips. I only wish you could assist in the return of the [remains of Cromil].'

You will receive faction, a random minor item, some silver, and some copper.

Your faction standing with Clerics of Underfoot has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Miner's Guild 249 has been adjusted by 7.

Note: quest experience changes of 2016 nerfed this quest hard in that respect

    What's Up?
    # Jul 30 2001 at 5:44 AM Rating: Default
OK OK - I read all the reviews and I felt this quest worth it. Between buying and hunting, I got 5 backpacks full of bone chips. That's 40 stacks! By that time I was half way into 7th level. I turned it all in, which took forever by the way, and all I got was 2 1/2 levels up to 10th, barely. Now 2 1/2 levels is good, but not worth it in my book. What's up with you other people saying you got 16 levels doing this. I don't think so. But I dunno for sure, does the exp depend on your faction or what?

He's right. Figuring that you add 10 points to your skill caps for combat skills per level and most low level PC's skills are still in the single digits, you will be 80 to 90 points below where you should be. Now the bad news... you don't increase your combat skills fighting things that are way below you. It's too trivial. Your skills will only increase by fighting things that are blue and above. The problem is MOB's at the 10+ lvl are way tougher and they will now kick your butt because you suck at fighting.

You can build your skills by being in a group but you will be a major liability.

Tell me about it. I did not do any "free leveling", but I have not worked on 1hand slash since level 19 and even then I had left it at 88. Ouch, now I am level 31, and seeing the benefit of having a shield (for AC when I am the main tank), but my 1hand slash is 90 points below where it should be. Ouch, I am sure paying for it: my ATK drops from 658 to 498 when I use a 1hand slash instead of a 2hand slash, and ouch, I have only 1 point of 2hand blunt and 0 in 1hand blunt, and I also left my Piercing at 85.... oww... Oh well, at least I realized my mistake before level 60. My 1hand slash would be 190 points below max (which is where it should be).
This is to show the importance of practicing all skills, as there are really nice 1hb and slashes as well as piercers and 2hand blunts in the high end, and if you haven't practiced...

You tell raid leader: Thanks for letting me loot that Frostwrath! Oh man, ratio of 27/25 WITH A PROC!
Raid leader tells you: You haven't looted it yet, have you?
You tell raid leader: No, the corpse hasn't come open.
Raid leader tells you: Ok, good. What is your 1hand blunt?
    You tell raid leader: 0
Raid leader tells you: Umm, sorry that goes to someone else then.
    You think: Groan....

You don't want that to happen to you. LOL.

Best place in kaladim for skellies is beside druid rings. Also good for heals from passing druids doing there GG's. Great place for any low levels that get exp from dwarf skellies.

Well, at this moment, I'm about to liquadate my warrior (Read: Sell all his equipment) and buy stuff for a necro or magi (Can't figure out what yet). I was doing some calculating on the way to school, and this is what I found...

    1) It's a much more cost efficient quest than CB Belts, which usually sell for 1pp/pair.
    2) If bone chips cost 1 gp from the vendors (Actually costs around 7-8 silver, but for rounding...), and you buy 20, that costs 2pp. Now, multiply that by 8 (1 backpack), that's 16pp. Another 8 backpacks, that's 128 platinum in other words, not really that much, but you've now got 1280 bone chips, or 320 hand-in's, at much cheaper than an equivilent number of CB belts would cost. And, since I'm planning of selling all my warrior gear, I might be able to powerlevel with this to 12-14ish at least, or if the XP starts giving out, Mino horns/Lego pads. This is gonna be awesome.

Read all the bs on other sites about how hard it is to level up caster caster through the newbie and lowbie ranks. I can get any character 14 in about 1 hour. By the way this does require a high level character. I personally have a Half elf ranger level 27.

Get you high char and park yourself a CB kill all the legos, you see. AT 30 a lego would hit me for about 10-20 damage per fight, THIS IS NOTHING. After 2 hours of doing this i had reached my goal, 34 lego pads. Took the six backpacks and stored them in the bank. Bought another four back packs and TPed to tox affordable at 30, stuck my camo on and got the the newbie hunting area. Man was i impressed took me about 1 1/2 hours to get my goal of 240 chips. That's 12 stacks worth. Took the boat to Qeynos and got a TP back to Butcher Block. Started up my dwarf cleric and moved him over to the hut by the chessboard. Took my ranger there and unloaded the four bags of chips, quickly logged and got them with my cleric. Who promptly went and put them in Kaladim bank. Brought Cleric back to the hut and camped him. Took ranger to bank and got teh six bags of lego pads, went to the hut and unloaded them on the floor, as well as some money 100pp for all your spells. Logged as Cleric picked up the money and bags and ran to the bank, note that this is teh most risky thing in all of the statagy as a level 1 cleric goes down fast. Arrived at back switched the pads for the bones and headed off to warrior guild. Handed them in, Bam level 7 and 1 bub. Went back got the bags of lego pads handed in all of them. And looked at my persona bar and i couldn't believe it, LEVEL 13. Raced on down too the Cleric guild bout all my spells including the level 14 ones, you WILL have enough bags. Yu will have 115 practice points. I suggest 40 in to alteration, 20 into divination, 20 into evocation and 9 into conjuration, 1 into meditate and the rest slam into 1 hb.

I also happened to get a broze morning star as reward for one turning in on the lego pads as well as picking up a Shiny Brass shield from the trainer.

Now you must get your skills up to scratch, this if done right should only take 20 mins. Stand by guards and DD yourself till your outta mana or almost dead, meditate until full mana and then heal your self up with MINOR healing it will raise your skill faster as you can cast it more often.

Well their you have it a 13 dwarf Cleric with all his spells awsome weapon slots a full set of cloth armour and A EXTREMELY TIRED WRIST.

You can use this strategy with all casters including wood elf druids and all int based casting gnomes.

Hope you have fun, i did.

    How to do this quest
    # Feb 06 2001 at 4:22 AM Rating: Default
Each newbie area on Faydwer has decaying skellies. Never sell the bone chips to merchants and see if you can avoid selling them to players until this quest no longer gives decent exp for your level. When you give the chips, give him 16 at a time in four groups of 4/stack. This does the quest four times in one click. I've never had a problem stacking items for a quest as long as the stack was not larger than 4.
    Great newb. quest

I did this quest from lvls 1-4, killing nothing but decaying skeles. even as a rogue with low paladin guild faction i still got good cash and some patchwork armour, as well as weapons to sell.It only took me a couple of hours to hit 4 doing this and i had almost a complete set of patchwork. I would recommend this quest to all newbies headed through Kaladim.

with 7 stacks can take a lvl 1 all the way to lvl 6 in a matter of seconds.. free armor and money.. god love this stuff
    Great for smithing
    # Jan 14 2001 at 2:31 AM Rating: Default
If the random item he gives you is a weapon it will always be rusty. If you are a blacksmith you can get sharpening stones by going into the mine and taking the first right. You can buy them from the merchant there. I got my blacksmithing to 17 from this quest and it's still going up...

Wait till lvl 5 before turning in bone chips. The reasons. You get EXP for killing them till lvl 5. In BB there is not much to kill at lvl 5. Turning in 60 or so bone chips will take you to 6 almost 7. You don't need armor till lvl 6. With all the money you get from turning in the chips, you can buy some banded armor. He gives patchwork armor swords, so between what he gives and what you buy you will be ready for the crossroads.

I have done the Bone chip quest in South Qeynos.
I twinked 24 stacks to a 1st level Human Mage and buy repeating the SQ bone chip quest got to half way through 6th.

I twinked 14 stacks to a 1st level Dwarf Paladin and by reapeating the North Kaladim Bone Chip Quest made I just made it into 6th.

Based on this expericense I would have to say that this quest gives the better exp. Of course I understand there are race and class exp bonouses and such that could be tainting the results.

I agree. This quest is under rated, and should be considered on par with the CB belt quest. My enchanter had just made 2nd level, and went to Kaladim with 8 CB belts and a stack of bone chips. The 8 CB belts just barely made him 3rd level; the 20 bone chips just barely made him 4th level.

As a Dwarf worrior, I started collecting bone chips and held them till I stopped getting EXP from skells, goblin whelps, bats and snakes. The reason, between level 5 and 7 there is not much to kill. When I stopped getting exp I turned in around 50 and this took me to level 7 and with all the cash after selling the loot I had enough to buy some good armor from a blacksmith.

Good quest - where to hunt
    # Oct 30 2000 at 1:31 PM Rating: Default

This is a good quest... at level 6 a single stack (20 chips) got me a whole bubble... with a pack full of chips you could easily advance several levels just for encouraging your carpel tunnel a little.

A word to those who'd like to complete this quest quickly - Run to Steamfont and hunt decaying gnome skeletons instead. The gnome skel's spawn much faster and in a much higher quantity and also seem to have a higher chance of having chips. On top of this, due to the docks being in Butcherblock, the Dwarven Skel's do A LOT of warping so half the one's you run up to will warp away as you get to them.

In the amount of time it took me to collect 8 chips from the Butcherblock I collected an entire stack from Steamfont.

Also on faction - as a rogue I was indifferent to the clerics and they still let me do the quest.. so unless your factio n is negative you should have no problem trading chips in.
RE: Good quest - where to hunt
    # Jan 11 2001 at 8:06 AM Rating: Default
I agree on Steamfont, but Befallen is even better. The skellies do not drop as many chips per mob but are plentiful.
    unlimited supply of decaying skeletons
    # Jan 16 2001 at 6:32 PM Rating: Default
This may be a *tiny* bit of trouble but you will have ALL the bone chips you could ever need. Create a mule erudite necro, cleric, or shadow knight (I suggest cleric). Their newbie area in Paineel is loaded with decaying skeletons which seem to spawn in relation to how many players are there. Even with 10 people online (it is hardly every that many - very often I have the whole zone to myself) there are enough ds for everyone to kill one, loot, and imediately run to another one. It takes about 10 minutes to accumulate a stack of 20. Sell all of the rusty weapons and you'll have plenty of gold to buy all the backpack you're going to need. If you see one with a staff, go after it right away. It could be a worn great staff - 2G or a cracked staff - over 1 Platinum. After you have as many backpacks as you want, get a TP to Toxx forest and go to Erudin. Run you mule to Erudin, find someplace safe and exchange. That part is a little trouble but I took a druid from 5 (as soon as I got Gate) to 9 with about 30 stacks (4 backpacks). It's not very practical after that because it starts taking hundreds of stacks per level.
    Great newbie quest !!!!

    # Oct 03 2000 at 7:12 AM Rating: Decent
This quest should be listed as a cleric quest too. Not only is the experience good for low levels one of the factions gained is with the Kaladim Clerics guild (also their thieves guild).

With only one bubble into level 12 I turned in about 200 bones and made it about one bubble into 13. This was enough to raise my faction from indifferently to warmly with the clerics. At 2 PP per stack of bones this faction adjustment cost me 16PP (minus all the items that I sold back at the clerics guild nearby) I expect to get that back in the reduced cost of my spells within the next few spell cycles.
    xp good skills bad
    # Sep 09 2000 at 8:13 AM Rating: Default
the only downside to this quest is all your combat skills don't get increases much when you level so quickly. i had a lvl 6 cleric with only 10 skill in 1HB, i ended up blowing a few practice points so i could actually fight the tougher mobs i was facing at the later levels
