  • Renth McLanis may be found in McDaniels Smokes & Spirits at +370, -280, or via the Find function (he is a Warrior Guildmaster).

    You say, 'Hail, Renth McLanis'

Renth McLanis says 'Hail, ______! Have ye come to train? I train all warriors. All Wolves o' the North must be strong warriors and swift as well. Are ye a young wolf, then? If so, maybe ye can [assist Renth] with his wee problem, eh?'

You say, 'I will assist you.'

Renth McLanis says 'I was ordered by Kylan O'Danos to personally escort a young warrior sent to fetch the remains of his cousin, Ivan McMannus. I forgot and spent me greater time testing out the fine spirits. Now I must find the courier and the remains. Will ye [search for the courier]?'

You say, 'I will search for the courier.'

Renth McLanis says 'Thank ye, _____! Go to Everfrost Peaks and seek out Arnis McLish. Ask him where Megan, the courier, is. Once ye find Megan, would you ask her where Ivan's remains are? Please go, at once!'

  • Arnis McLish may be found in Everfrost Peaks near the entrance ramp to Black Burrow at -1595, -175. He will run eastward to the tree at -1090, -960, attacking monsters along the way.

    You say, 'Hail, Arnis McLish'

Arnis McLish says 'My word!! I cannot believe how cold it is out here. I must keep running around just to keep warm.'

    You say, 'Where is Megan?'

Arnis McLish says 'I heard she got lost on the plains. You should ask her dog, Snowflake, where she is. I hear he is somewhere around the pass to Halas.'

  • Snowflake may be found at +2020, -1160, near Bryndin McMill and Lish McMarrin.

    You say, 'Hail, Snowflake'

    Snowflake says 'Grrrrrr!!'

    You say, 'Where is Megan?'

    Snowflake says 'Ruff.. Ruff.. Woof..'

  • Snowflake will slowly walk away to the east, stopping at the pillars of the tower at (+2045, +3835). Regardless of whether Megan is there or not, he will slowly walk back to the tree by Bryndin McMill. You can make him return to Megan's tower during the return trip by asking asking him again "Where is Megan?"

Megan OReilly stands outside the tower to the right of the pillars at (+2060, -3870) and will frequently walk to the bank of the frozen river at (+2025, -4240). Wandering orcs will sometimes attack her so you might have to wait for her.

    You say, 'Hail, Megan OReilly'

Megan OReilly says 'Brrrr.. It.. Is sooo.. c-cold!! I never.. sh-should've j-joined.. the.. the W-wolves of the N-north!!'

You say, 'Where are Ivan's remains?'

Megan OReilly says 'You were sent to retrieve the remains? I am sorry, I lost them. It was not my fault! There was no escort as I was told. I got lost returning to Halas and ended up on a frozen river. The ice broke and the remains were scattered into the freezing water. Will you [dive for the remains]?'

You say, 'I will dive for the remains.'

Megan OReilly says 'Thank the Tribunal!! I would have, but I cannot swim. Take this chest. Fill it with the four pieces which fell below the surface. I know not what else lies within. When you fill the box and combine the items, return it to Renth. Good luck, ______.'

  • You receive a 4-slot Empty Box, which identifies as "Box For Ivan's Remains."

Southeast of Megan's tower, there is a hole in the frozen river at +1375, -4585; grab an Enduring Breath from someone and go diving. Under the ice are various goblins ("goblin diver" and "ice goblin diver") who are KoS. Three of the pieces of the remains are ground spawns found on the river bottom and look like bags.

    Barbarian Femur: 1405, -4570, -190
    Barbarian Jaw: 1465, -4500, -230
Barbarian Skull: (just north of the jawbone) 1577,-4489,-242

The final item, Barbarian Rib, is dropped by a "goblin diver" found between the spawn spots for the jaw and the skull. Kill it for the final item, a Barbarian Rib.

  • Combine the four items in the box to craft a Box of Remains (identifies as "Box of Ivan's Remains"). Head back to Halas and give Renth the Box of Remains.

Renth LcLanis says 'Good work!! Kylan will never know o' me negligence. I owe ye one, young warrior. Let's call it even with this. Twas found by one of our foraging parties. It is still useful. And... I believe ye can assist with a more [dangerous matter] as well.'

Your faction standing with Wolves of the North has been adjusted by 20.
Your faction standing with Shamen of Justice has been adjusted by 4.
Your faction standing with Merchants of Halas has been adjusted by 5.
Your faction standing with Steel Warriors has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!
You receive 1 copper from Renth McLanis.

  • You receive a random minor item. The more "dangerous matter" is the quest for the Langseax.

    Need additional rewards, if any.

how much experience do u think this quest would give to a 1st lvl human enchanter? i have an alt that has all the pieces. all my enchanter has to go do is talk to megan to get the box, then put all the bones in it, and press combine. then give it back to Renth McLanis!!!

The quest is pointless. I did the whole thing and was pissed when I saw what I got for the stupid thing 1 cp and a crappy rusty mining pick.
Best thing I got from this quest

Ye gods people. It is a game, the quests are supposed to be challenging and fun. Not all about the loot...

    Just play, it's more fun.

Agreed, but when your a low (under 8) level char, tryin to get to megan out at the tower, which is populated with orc mountaineers, orc shamans, and other wipe my butt with your face characters at that level, the reward should at least be decent exp, if not any loot. I got 5 copper and a turquoise. Come on, this quest is the lamest ive seen yet.

Waaayyy back, before there were sites like this to list every quest in Norrath you sometimes had to do some task to get a later quest that gave you something good. This is one of those cases.

If you do this quest Reneth will be so grateful and impressed he'll ask if you can help with another matter and that leads you into the quest for the Langseax or Langseax of the Wolves, both of which are nice magic weapons. You don't find out about it from him until you've recovered poor Ivan from his watery grave. So overall this is NOT a bad quest -- in fact it's a lead-in to a great one. However, some people have gotten jaded and expect instant rewards.

It's a *game* -- PLAY it. Not everything is about loot.

OK, I will admit that I have higher LVL friends on EQ. Also, I know that they will help me if i ask them to, just as I will do the same for them (mainly transporting from Dwarves to Dark Elfs). I just created a Barbarian Beatlord; I am NOT going to ask for any assistance with this character BECAUSE this is my FUN, I'M TIRED OF JUST GAINING LVL'S CHARACTER. I love RPG's and enjoy actually playing instead of just gaining lvls. Have fun, you only live once.

how very sad, as a role player and righter of wrongs.. almost a crusader, I would jump to do this deed, as well as saving the sayers' baby (yes I know the quest is broken and will most likely NEVER be fixed) the point is to have fun it gives you a purpose a quest.... (hmmmm RPG ROLE PLAYING GAME? QUEST? WHAT A CONCEPT!)

The point of the quest is not the loot you get but the faction. You get positive faction with the wolves of the north.

Did this quest with my 20 warr and it was real easy(swiming skill 50), and got exp, however, I could bearly see my blue bar move. You get + faction with the wolves of the north, steel warriors and two others but i can't remember them. If you are an evil race hunting in everfrost, this might be a good way to enshure that Iceberg and Tundra Jack will leave you alone, however, Megan and Arnis are in the wolves of the north so try it at your own risk.

    Terrible quest!

This quest is totally pointless, you have to be high enough to kill the goblins underwater and hope to get air in time. You get about 1 silver from this quest?! The really need to add a decent item for this to make it worth the risk.

I got a rusty broadsword after completing this quest. Luckily, I only drowned once, but I did get gang banged by a group of Orc Troopers and Mountaineers. This has got to be one of the most worthless quests I've ever performed. Truly a shame...
    not a good quest
    # Jul 20 2000 at 6:13 AM Rating: Decent
This quest was very dissapointing. Given the chance that you might lose the hole in the ice and drown, 1 cp and a rusty short sword are hardly worth the risks. I have done this quest multiple times and have never recieved more than 1 sp worth of items for my trouble.
    time

this quest takes no where near 4 hours, more like 10minutes

It could take that long if your faction is low with the Wolves of the North. I had to turn in at least 24 (8 sets) of gnoll fangs to get faction to amiable to perform this quest at all. This can take a long time, sitting in BlackBurrow. Once I actually got to do the quest it was easy, because I had gotten bored trying to think of a way to get faction up, and went swimming just to see where the items were, so I collected them before hand. When I got the box from Megan, I put the pieces in and gave it to Renth. I got a throwing axe. I do agree with the fact that the reward could be better, but on the reverse side it is just an intro into a larger quest that is a lot more rewarding. You have to remember greatness takes time, just look at building up your skills, you didn't make a suit of plate mail armor at the forge the first time you opened it up, it took time and a lot of time and effort and money.
The real thing I see with this quest is this:
Its a low level quest for warriors mainly (hence quest from Warrior Guildmaster) and it allows the new player to explore most of the zone to see whats out there and learn their way around. Most people would rather port, but sometimes its good to get out and walk around instead of driving the car everywhere. So in closing, its more about what the mission does for the new player than the reward. Exp in BlackBurrow, Exploration of the zone, and Faction. And along the way you can get items and small pieces of armor to help the new player along. Besides the second part of the mission set is the Goblin Ice Necklace, if you think that was hard then you have issues. I think I got a torch or something as a reward for that one, but thats not the point. It's all about the game.
