oh! boy this mask is great! it compliments my group friendly spells just fine,im beginning to think i'll log on the game one day and find verant has turned my necro into a femmy druid,think about it,what's in your account should stay in your account,well i guess the mask is just a faction builder now ,thank you verant for another discouraging necro quest and or camp keep up the good work.

I got the mask the week before it was nerfed. The ones in circulation at the time of nerf were all set to having 1, yes, thats 1 charge, not the 5 charges of the newly completed quest version. I really dont get how this is an unbalanced item. It had a casting time slightly longer than the spell, it has crappy stats for a high lvl item, but it freed up a spell slot and gave me an extra chance to try to FD when something was agroed on me.

hmm, just look at my 45 druid, who just freed up how many spell slots by wearing the crappy stat ES gear? at least 5. I don't get Verant sometimes. Can they truly have trouble giving the evil classes goodies?

Are there still masks that are 'pre-nerf' versions and still retain the unlimited charges or have all masks been changed to 5 charges?
Just curious... I was thinking about the Circlet of Shadows and how that was nerfed... they should have just made a similar change to this item (ie. increased cast time, required to wear it, etc... something!) if they were out to "balance" the item.

It really pisses me off when I read about items that I can't get (yet) but now they've made them worthless compared to the time spent. They're just catering to the Uber guilds (I have nothing against high-lvl guilds/players... just VI) by making anything that doesn't require a large group of 55+ mobs, junk items! I can't wait until I finally make it to 60 and can go on the cool raids... until then, I'm stuck with seriously nerfed crap because VI knows that the ubers are the durable customers and anyone under that may change games at any time.... *shout* "Not very forward-thinking, Verant"

Anyway, I'm off to work on 49th and get some cash to buy some halfway descent Velious gear... at least they have lost focus of that stuff and are looking for more SoL gear to nerf....

Ok, I know it's over a year later, but I felt I should reply.

Necromancers used to be the (possibly second) most versatile class (only bard comes close) in the game, but vastly under-appeciated due to the limitations of pet classes.

Then Verant improved pet classes drastically for raiding and such by making pets neutral-agro and much more reasonable in terms of pathing and abilities.

At this point, I would take a necro in a group over a wizard hands-down. I'd take a MAG, MNK, NEC, RNG, WIZ or ROG equally for damage clases, but if there were a chance that things would get tight and one character's ability to serve many roles would save us all, everyone else would take a walk.

It's not that I don't respect what those classes can do, and there are raids where a RNG or WIZ or ROG or all of the above *must* be present in order to do enough dps. But the necro is the jack of all trades and master of none. They don't get the best pet, dots, support spells, snares, mezz, heal, slow, etc. But who else gets all of those? Answer: Bard. And while bards are possibly even more versatile, a bard just can't do the raw dps of a necro, so it's not a useful comparison.

All of this (except the usefulness of pets on raids) was true a year ago, so what exactly was the big deal with an item that gave free FD getting nerfed? Someone else pointed out that all this did was free up a slot... WRONG! You keep FD up, and only use this when FD fails! That gives you an instant-recast on FD and a third attempt not long after. In most fights that go poorly, I have time to try to FD twice. With a third attempt being possible, I would probably never die.

FD for necros is a very powerful ability that sets them apart from all other casters the way long-duration-snare does for RNG and DRU. If you know how to play the class, you should know that this item had to go. Getting 5 charges is actually still a very nice reward!

Of course now there are, what, 3? 4? different FD spells that a Necro can use?

If you're willing to waste the spell slots, you can be chain-casting one variant or other of FD as fast as you want. So that argument is now totally moot... but you can be sure that the mask won't be un-nerfed, making the whole quest pointless.

Unbalanced??? are you a freaking IDIOT how the hell would it be unbalanced, necro's always had the ability to FD and having a clickable FD isn't a guarantee it will not fail next morons like you will say evac skills are rogue escape skill are also unbalance. Just get a life and find some other game more suited to your class envy whining.

Verant seems HELL BENT on pissing off its customers... kinda strange for a company that 'should' be trying to make money, which usually entails making customers happy


I guess the real point is that we understand that when an actual game imbalancing item is found, it needs to be adjusted, but stuff like this? Comon Verant, whats the big freaking deal here, all you do is **** people off...
