Quad kited these with my druid from 40-44, so easy its scary. They have low hps but hit hard for the level.
There are 3 wanderers in front of the fort, pull them and use quad kiting tactics on them (even if its only 3). Then go into the fort and wait till you can safely pick off 4 with snare, since they all wander, pull the 4 you get out in front of the fort where you kited the first 3, and kill them. Once you have those 4 dead there should be 2 roamers left in the pool area, snare them, and proceed to carefully snare a couple in the back (that normally stay around the Oracle's area) and pull them to the pool area.
I have a lvl 42 Ranger and have been after Gnolls and Basilisks in this area for about 5 lvls now. Two ways in; hillside entrance SSW of SFG portal that put you in the village, and a portal inside caves (accessed through Black Burrow-follow the 'gnoll courier' if you want to know where the stone is).
The baskies have been good for me cause I can use Panic Animal and stay relatively safe. They do stun with a Stone spell which keeps you out of action for a few seconds while they bite you, so chasing them is a lot safer. The Genitors are good because you usually get anywhere from 2-6 eggs which sell for 7gp+ and are stackable. Since the C3 lvl-bug patch, this is a lot slower going but still decent XP. They will run out to the open area where the Gnolls wander so I run back up the cave and panic again to avoid adds. The regular basks have never aggroed on me (even DB), but the Genitors will.
Brell Gnolls are pretty tough for their level, hitting in the 100s and having substantial HP for their lvl. Cleric and I were pulling singles using snare/DoT, then root and shoot while DoT worked. When root broke, she cast fear and I finished off with melee. Worked very well and could handle two with NP, but without C3 or other mana-buffs, more = zone run for 2 of us. Would be great spot for a group of about 4 mid-30+ chars (2 tanks, healer, caster), who could wade through these guys and collect decent XP + loot. Usually a couple plat and have seen Opal, Black Pearl and Jade Ring drop from wandering MOBs.
Higher level and named stuff inside walls (also a very attractive skylight/altar), but yet to be with group that would venture in beyond pulling singles. Great place to be if you must be in Lagged Pine.
..... a full suit of crusty sucks *** and if it only gives you 186 strength you're not very twinked... or a darkelf... either way doesn't make something that kicked your *** an undercon Learn to fear kite i'm embaressed to have a SK sometimes
Well - a year ago when this person posted, a full suit of crusty was nice. Also, if you are just starting out, dont have crap, and get a full suit of crusty donated, that is awesome (sure, you fugly with all the CHA gone, but tis okay).
I have been soloing these at level 32 with my Druid. Just stand outside the gate area where they wander by and pull them into the tunnel leading to the portal to Black Burrow. Do the normal Snare, Dot, root & med routine. They have low MR.
I have been able to solo the Yellow & Red con's no problem. Just keep an eye on pathing to get them into the tunnel as they can wander at 1st. Great XP. Fair loot (A few pp coin and a 5pp or so gem every so often) Great solo XP for low 30's.
These guys make outstanding pets. They quad for up to 101, plus kick and bash 6 attacks per round. They have right around 1500 hp. Anyway, not sure how they will do against other creatures in zone, but against the basilisks they have some amazing damage output. Not terribly MR or fast. great pets.
35 ShadowKnight. VERY twinked at the moment (thank you to all who helped make that possible). Full suit of crustacean armor, Noctavigant Blade, Strength of 186, Stanima of 176, Attack over 800, Over 1200 HP. Harm touch was up. Lifetap was hitting every time. I was slashing and bashing for all I had in me, but to no avail. It was dark blue to me. I have hunted in the dreadlands. I have solo'd giants. I was even so bold as to attempt a chromatroc in shyshrine (which led to a corpse run from iceclad, but i put up a damn good fight). I could not take this gnoll. Beware of these, and your arrogance. They have made me learn a lesson in humility.
LOL, I can back you up on that one. Found the cave for the first time (haven't hunted there much) and they were all Apprehensive to me. I killed one green one and they are now Dubious LOL.
I wouldnt say that you take a BIG faction hit when you kill them, it may just be that you are BARELY Apprehensive to start. That single kill being enough to make up thier minds if they like you or not.
