The "a cave basilisk" in Jaggedpine do not drop Basilisk Egg. Only the "a cave basilisk genitor" do.

Unfortunate because otherwise this would be an amazing spot to farm them.

XP Baking!

Great for solo hunting xps. They seem to give about 1% XP even at level 39/40 for my toons. The Genitors are the ones that drop the eggs, so bring along a spit and a non-stick frying pan as you can buy cheese in this zone from Chef Brargus and make work up your baking easily and cheaply to 66.
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/recipe.html?recipe=1551
After that you can keep your spit, stop up in PoK to get lots of batwings and buy fresh fish from our friend the Chef and then you can do Fish Rolls until they max out at 135. Becoming a Master Baker in your downtime sure beats staring at your health/mana bar!! :)

One strategy that I use with my druid that is moderately risky, but rather fun is to charm/beguile one of the cave basiliks and use him as a pet. If you let him fight until he is under 20% health he will just turn to run after the charm is broken, so you won't have to worry about having 2 mobs beating on you. Then you can throw a quick snare on him until you get a chance to re-charm. Having these things put in some extra dmg for you sure makes the going more fun... not for everyone, but if you like a challenge it is a lot more fun that sitting and doing the old snare/root/dot/dot /repeat all the time... The pets are also very mana efficient if used correctly... my little lizzy buddy commonly hits in the 70's and that's a LOT of extra damage for a level 35 druid. :)

As always, have fun!!

Do these petrify you like the basilisks elsewhere do and are they social?

Do they....

I'm sorry this answer is so late in coming, but they are not social and these do not stun. HOWEVER! The genitors (found in the same cave) both aggro AND stun.

IMO, basilisk cave is a great place to solo. My Beastlord is there right now. Levels 29-32 so far, and the exp is still great (even though some have started to con blue... I was soloing red and yellow basilisks before). Not only that, but the loot you get is all very light, so there's no need to even head back to town to restock.
monster or animal?

Great for Rangers and Druids
# Jul 06 2003 at 9:26 AM Rating: Decent
I've been soloing these guys since about 30 now, with my Ranger. I'm now 39, haven't died once, and I've got so many clumps of dough I just really have no idea what to do with it.

No one ever comes by to hunt these guys. I once saw a group of two Erudites killing the gnolls, and a druid is there right now hunting one basilisk every 5 minutes or so, but aside from that they're all mine. At 39 I still get 1/3 to 1/2 a blue for each kill. With clarity, there's NO downtime. Snare, fear, dot, dead; snare, fear, dot dead. God, I love being a Ranger..

I dont have a hard time believing this one... they only have like 1K hp's... a ranger with a couple of half decent weapons could easilly solo these things. At 65 farmin these things is a breeze (of course) with a couple of 455 crits in a row they are less than 10% health. The genitors are a weee bit tougher... but maybe only 100 hp's or so... if that.

Snare... Fear... dot... beat em down... dead.. rinse and repeat. Sounds like a good plan to me
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 10 2004 at 8:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There is no way that as a 39 ranger u are soloing these with fear/dot unless u are doing a lot more than 1 dot a mob. (like 10) The only DoT at 39 is like 90 damage all together and i really doubt these guys only got 90hp. Your either meleeing or lying about only snare, fear, dot, dead

I think the melee was implied... with him being a ranger and all. Heh.

My lvl 35 Mage is hunting these with no problem. About 1/2 blue bub for each kill. I can usually take 2 on with 1 full mana bar. I keep my lvl 35 pet buffed with DS, BO2, and use Cinder bolt on Basilisks. The female ones drop 2-5 eggs and are like 50% chance to spawn after killing 1 of the regular basilisks.

This would be excellent hunting grounds for an all casters group or any grp lvls 35-37. There are lots of them in these caves and they respawn inside of 7 mins.

An update on my experience in the Cave Basilisks' Cave.

I grouped with a lvl 38 Druid and a lvl 36 Enchanter and my lvl 35 Mage. Talk about easy XP! We were able to clear on room, med up and by the time we were full mana the room was repopulated. The Druid kept the pets healed and the Enchanter and the Mage played Wizard and nuked the hell out of everything. Our skills maxed out for our lvls, and Clarity helped speed things up. In on day of camping this room, all 3 of us went up 1 full lvl in about 5 hours.

Great place to solo because of the lack of aggro and socialization of the mobs, and, now with the grouping bonuses, an excellent place for a group.

besides the eggs for as loot goes they also drop some runes and research words every now and then and usually basilisk eye stalks also, pretty good loot since a few vendors are at the surefall zone in for the none KoS races to sell to.

Well, I can tell you from my two levels of hunting these things,
The only ones to aggro are the Genitors - they aggro everything I have seen thus far from other hunters (wolf form, and werewolf included), but they (like the regular cave basilisks) do NOT assist each other... so don't worry about getting too close to another spawn point thoughout the caves, unless of course, its another Genitor. :)

Cave Basilisk
# Aug 01 2002 at 3:51 PM Rating: Decent
Just a few things to mention about these beasties.
They hit pretty hard, up to the 90 range, was
never hit for more than 83 while fighting them.
They have fairly decent MR and break root spells
fast, however snare seems to slow them down
pretty good.
Me, being a lvl 32 druid and grouped w/ a ranger of lvl 31 were able to snare/fear/DoT and nuke
them and they go down pretty fast.
I wouldn't recommend rooting since they break
free quick.

Not sure if they aggro since they spawn far enough from the others so you can pull one at a time. Decent exp for my level, for the loot well they didnt drop anything but chunks of meat

Yeah, these guys are good xp. Approx 1200-1500 hp, not too tough. The Genitors also proc a Stun, kinda long maybe 5-6 seconds spins you too. heh

Animal spells work on em, panic animal is such a great fear spell.. 10 manna i think?

Anyway, for all you chanters out there try getting one of the gnolls (Brell anchorites) and charming/hasting and siccing on the Basilisks. They only last like 20 seconds vs those burly gnolls.

I hunted these solo for a while when the zone first appeared. These and the genitors are very good xp, and the genitors drop eggs that sell fairly nice, and they always seem to drop 2-5 eggs, usually around 4. the basisisks con dubious, but genitors are KOS, but have a very low aggro range, you pretty much have to walk on top of them to get aggro. They spawn far enough apart from one another that they can be soloed or duoed easily. Great spot for PL'ing twinks if your into that, and I have almost never seen anyone in the cave at all.
