#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 05 2005 at 11:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) East Freeport docks has a grubby little tavern on one side across from the Porth Authority. He spawned in the Tavern after I ran in anxiously to see if he was just hangin out in there.

Been in QH for 2 nights and went through 6 EQ days and no Motte. Every 3 hours a PH comes speeding by, but no Motte. I have got to the point where I kill them all, and still no Motte.

Being an Iksar, I really don't want to go into FP but I am almost over this FIRST part of the epic. I understand long camps and have sat through my fair share, but this is the first step. I will continue to hunt him down, but in reference to other posts they say 11pm spawn time....well that is not true, atleast not every 11pm EQ game time.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated !
Hailed him...

My 36 DE Necro killed him last night in Qeynos Hills (25 Feb., 05).

He was near the marker at the crossroads walking away from the tower. This was only the second time I have seen him there, the first was months ago.

I let him get a little ways out from the marker because the guards path along there. First I threw Engulfing Darkness (DOT & slow), then Venom of the Snake (Poison based DOT). Sent the 34th. lvl pet in to tank him then threw Burning Blood, my vampiric DOT (don't remember the name), Heart Flutter, and I think the kitchen sink got thrown also.
At 40% he used his LOH and went back to 70%hp, but the DOT's were still on him so with a quick refresh of Engulfing and Venom he went down fast. I did have to hit him with a Life Tap at the end when he started pathing back towards the guards at the crossroads, but that was it.

I looted the head and a few gold coins and a great feeling of satisfaction.

Only place I have noticed him listed in the soulfire quest was as a PH for another guy that spawns and despawns in the same spot in a bar in EFP by the docks.
The easiest place to take down Motte
# May 20 2004 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
Went to EFP, didn't see him up but then I didn't even want to think of dropping invis. Spent too long as an Iksar, got a healthy paranoia of having the whole zone jump on top of me.

So, went to the crossroads in QH. Guards were light blue (at 56), was able to take them out with my two monk pets. BTW Guard Nash is extremely resistant to everything I threw at him (magic, fire, cold). Don't waste your mana on him, just heal your pet. Got a backpack of fine steel waiting for two Sir Edwins who wandered to the crossroads (from the WK zone) inside of an EQ day: one at 6pm and the other at 3am.

This guy is kind of interesting. One of those NPCs that is set up to spawn and despawn so it looks as if he's actually travelling through multiple zones himself. Just one of those cool ideas that aren't practiced anymore for some reason.

K at 34 i he conned dark blue so i toought heck ill give it a shot. rooted him sent pet .... then Uber lagginess started inn and everything freezes next thing i see is please wait loading....

came back a few minuts later. hestill there. rooted ( root holds easily) then sent venom of the snake and dooming darkness and boil blood and heart flutter ( want pet to stay alive) and even vampiric embrace.

he used LoH pretty fast ( idiot) still just standing there when he got under 50% he started healing himself ( annoying) so i sent pet in to interupt it an started nuking with torbas acid blast.

also during this i recast root 2 more times ( to be safe )

hold ur pet off until hes used loh and he starts healing. cuss if not ur pet is gonna go bye bye pretty fats

I have a good Motte story. My Necro killed him a long ways back, cant remember what level i was but i was YOUNG! I decided to get my epic going so i started with Motte. I went to EFP cuz i knew i was good there, i killed alot of orcs and no human guards and Dark Elves are usually tolerated in Freeport. So i look and wait for hours and no Motte. So im sitting at the docks by the bar and im about to quit and try another day when suddenly i see "Sir Edwin Motte begins to cast a spell" and im like WOOT! So i run into the bar and there he is with his two Bard friends and i get prepped cuz i didnt want to lose him. Here was my technique:

I heard that the bards might agro if i fought him in the bar so i memmed Screaming Terror and decided to stun him and run outside. Lo and behold it worked like a charm and 24 secs later out comes Motte pissed off and swingin. So i sent my pet in and did my thing with taps and DoTs (he did LH once so expect that) But heres where it got crazy. At low health he broke darkness and took off like a shot!!! I was like UH OH as he ran straight down the docks towards the guards. But heres the kicker, NONE aggroed. He isnt on their faction and if they dont hate you they could care less who you kill mercilessly in the streets of Freeport!!! (my kinda town =)) Anyway he ran past three guards before i dropped him and i was fine, got his head and walked right out like nothing happened. Stoopid Humans =) So thats my tale, i hope it helps someone. I never tried anywhere else but EFP but you have to be patient i guess. Good Luck With your Epic!!!

He is a paladin after all.

They do care about the citizens of FP. There are some citizens that if you kill them you get negative militia. If I remember correctly even Knights of Truth will go down as well for some citizens.

Sat on the docks with my 52 ranger tracking for about an hour, when he finally popped in Seafarers Roost. I had my 56 Necro parked on the docks as well. There were a couple other guards sittin at the bar, that had to be dispatched first. But both guards and Sir Edwin were very easy. Sir Edwin was standing in the corner at a table on the same floor as dock level, not upstairs or downstairs. Good Luck

There are never any guards in the Roost. You mean you killed bar patrons.

Yep I am bored correcting minor things.

Other Zones

I have yet to see anyone talk about his other spawn spots (other than EFP and QH). Is he always up in one of those zones by chance? I dont have anyone to port me around atm but it would seem logical that he would maybe cycle between the zones.

Last night (8/28/2003) I killed Sir Edwin Motte in Qeynos Hills. At first, I had an alt of mine check every inch of the bar on the docks of East Freeport (because I'm KOS to one of the NPCs in there). He was nowhere to be found. So I took myself to Qeynos Hills and got a pet and walked the road from the NQ zone line to the stone marker, then east to the WK zone line. As I stood there, not 5 minutes later, he popped. And this is important: He began RUNNING FAST.

This guy doesn't walk to Qeynos, he SPRINTS. So, thankfully I had ROOT loaded, and hit him with that and sent my pet in. I laid in with 2 DOTs and when he got to about 70% health, he LOH himself and my pet was getting beat on pretty hard(50% health). I began nuking Motte and casting fear, hoping he'd break root. Didn't work, but we kept beating on him in place. Thankfully, we got him down to about 20% health and he turned tail and began WALKING away (not in such a big hurry this time). He dropped his head and a Fine Steal Scimitar.

I fought him perhaps 100-150 feet from the guard tower..I was down in the valley on the road, they were up on the hill a bit. We were in sight of them, but they did not aggro. The faction loss didn't put me over into KOS territory with them either.

It wasn't a pretty fight, as I didn't even have the spells loaded I needed for a "quick kill", and I didn't intend to ROOT him, but it was just my instinct when he began sprinting for Qeynos.

Nonetheless, he was simple to solo by a 42nd level Gnomish Necromancer just trying to lay the groundwork for my epic.

UGH!!! I cannot get this guy to spawn anywhere... Been to QH and no go, been to EFP and no go...
He also spawns in HH
# Jun 04 2003 at 4:28 PM Rating: Decent
No one has mentioned this, but he also spawns in Highhold Pass. There is a hotel, I think its the Tiger's Roar, but it might be the other one. There are 3 rooms in a row, and different people spawn in different rooms at different times. I've never figured out the pattern, or it is random. I talked to him about darts, but that conversation never seemed to go any further.

Anyway, sounds tons easier than taking on a whole bar. He was quite by himself.

A guildie needed him for start of epic...so me being the trackin sort and always willin to help, break out my lvl 49 druid...guildie had already found out he don't like the camp in efp, so went to qeynos as did i, thinkin quick spawn time. nope. hour and half later, he is board, i'm board, so i pop to hhp. run around there lookin at track...nothing. an hour later, guildie says, i'm off to the plains to hunt, i quit for now. i defer going to plains although i really do want exp. 10 mins after he gets there i do a tell "POP!!!!" took me 5 mins to find the stairs up to the lvl he was on and another 2 mins just to find the room. but i hail constantly for about 10 or 15 mins while my guildie gets his fite over and comes in to kill. mob was lb to me, i figured, kk root, dot, sit and watch him die with necro pet kickin tail. RIGHT!!!! 2 dots, and before i can mem healing water, i'm finding myself in western waste..>EEEP NEKKID and in dragon land where i'm kos.... quick mem misty thicket. :) safely nekkid in nubling zone a semi happy druid. :) necro pet did kick tail in happy fashion, but i didn't get to see the drop. that guy has a KILLER dot. one is boil blood line, and other is poison. watch it.
Not too hard

This guy was pretty much trivial at 52: I walked into the bar in East Freeport invisible to see if he was there, and he was... ran out, summoned a 49 pet, augmented it, went back in, set the pet on Motte, threw on Chilling Embrace and Vampiric Curse before one of the bards decided to attack me and kept interrupting my other spells. By the time I'd rooted the bard and stepped back, Motte was almost dead, and no-one else in the bar aggroed on me... and the bard was dead a few seconds after my pet finished off Motte and turned on him.

Cannot confirm it but bored as I was tracking motte for a friend He seemed to be in a cycle with a few others running from WK to Qeynos. always picked them up at the end of valley to WK and follwed them to the spot along zone to qeynos where the road hits the zone.

Others I think were in the same cycle
Sir edwin motte
Gro...
talym
Wyle Bimlin
They all followed nearly identical pathing runing out of wk valey the stop and change to walking to Qeynos. Motte seems to be the rarer of them because i saw two Talym's and two Wyle's. I'm sure I missed one or two between motte and Gro? didn't write down his name hadn't seen a pattern at that point and didn't see him again rest of night.
Finding Motte
# Feb 18 2003 at 8:14 AM Rating: Decent
I read some of the above posts and decided to wait in front of the FP inn for him. came there and waited, occasionally went in and checked the place.

Ok, here is a list of wot i found to spawn :
Branis Noolright
Trolon Nightlear
Palana Willin

Lozani (small Mage castin spells)

all conned green 2 me and dubious, except 2 of those guys at the bar that stand there occsionally ( a fat guy and a lady, standin close togetha ).
i killed them after they jumped at me.

if u kill those bards that doesnt seem to have any effect on spawn sequence.
so i waited for this damn Motte around 5 hours and no spawn, so i decided to start with my epic some otha time ;).

next day i though, come on give it a try at qeynos hills and i went there but no Motte. So i hailed a little Ranger that was huntin there and told him i d give him 50pp if he finds motte and hails him till im there.

so after ca one hour he calls me and says hes there. when i arrived (btw it was at the intersection of the road where the guards patrol) i dropped invis and conned the guards, hmm, blue and dubious, same as in FP, np then. just when i started casting my pet i had all 3 of the guards on me, feign death ran away multiple times till i m out of range.

finally i get close enough to Motte with my pet and draw half his health out with just one cast, pet finishes him of after he healed himself twice.

And of course the head was on him.

So just 2 little conclusion, try to find him in Qeynos, he seems to be there quite frequently
and dont trust the cons, get your pet at safe distance from guards, then pull motte to u and kill should be easy.

and i gave the Ranger 100pp and all the FS weaps i had on me, he is a nice guy :)

So one day about a month ago, I was running through QH when all of a sudden this con dark blue thing is infront of me. It cons scowling so I summon a pet and whack the crap out of it. I saw I took a hit with pally guild, but I was like "no biggie, I've killed a ton of gnolls" I go strollin into town and just to check it, I go by the pally guild and con some folks. I had gone from warmly to scowls just from killing this guy. I have no clue why he was scowling at me in the first place.

I wandered in invis to the Seafarers Roost last week to see if I would get lucky and see this guy to get my epic going. Lo and behold, I look against the wall and who do I see, Sir Edwin Motte. I /con him, and he appears Dark Blue to my then 36 Necro. I con everything else in the room, and they are all green. I decide to try to take him out and leave the greens alone. I start conjuring my skellie when a magician walks in and asks "WTF are you doing?" I tell him simply "I'm going to try to take down the Pally in the corner." His response is "You're gonna die LOL" and he stands there to watch. Anyway, I send in my skellie, cast Dooming Darkness, Boil Blood, Venom of the Snake, and start following him as he runs out of the tavern. By he way, his magic resist sux because I got no resists and the greenies stayed put, so I got no adds. I got a bit nervous because when he walked out I was hoping the wandering guard wasn't there, and I got lucky, he wasn't. He went down pretty quickly I looted a Ringmail sleeve, a Topaz, a Fine Steel Hammer, and the Head (Woot!). The best part was he dropped 5 seconds before the guard walked out of the other building (whew). Anyhow, I got the first piece, some decent stuff to sell, and got to shove it right in that dumb mages face. Doesn't get much better than that)

Saw this guy in Qeynos Hills today on the road right in front of the Qeynos zone line. I hailed him and he said his little boastful blurb. Never saw him before, but he stood on the road for hours I would guess because when I logged and came back on later he was still standing in the same spot.

Found and killed him near the NQ zoneline along the path (he was standing near the stone marker). Fairly easy kill for a 46 SK, other then I let fear lapse a second and he got his Lay Hands off (so essentially I had to kill him twice).

Not sure I've ever seen him in QeyHills that often, so it may not be the easiest spawn to trigger - but OTOH, you only have to dance near one wandering guard.
Wasn't too hard
# Mar 18 2002 at 10:55 PM Rating: Default
As a lvl 51 dark elf, who had screwed his faction with freeport early and was kos with everyone in it, I was worried I was gonna die when i tried this. It turned out though, that most of the people in the tavern wouldn't attack me, though they scowled. I had my 48 shaman friend with me, and we were killing his ph's to get him to spawn, while a monk was killing the bards for exp. I only had one npc attack me without me hitting him first, besides Motte, and he was easy. Motte wasn't too hard either, though having to take him out inside of the little tavern was a little tough, especially when he healed himself.

Just a heads-up, this guys is actually way easier to get to spawn in Qeynos Hills than in E. FP, have seen him spawn and despawn 3 times in roughly 7-10 minutes intervals. The only thing you have to watch out for is making sure you also don't aggro the stupid lvl 42-45 guard in that zone, can't remember his name, but he's the highest one, just makes for a harder situation. I cast a BoD and healed 49 pet once for the 350hp dot and saw he healed himself once, well not having anything of it, I nuked him with Ignite Bones for 500 and then did a 44 Lifetap on him, he went down pretty quick then, hehe.....he spawns literally at the zone ent. into WK, right at the bend to go further into Qeynos, so it's pretty easy to tag him without aggro'ing anything else, like say, Bard Trainers, etc. hehe
