Blackbox XXVIICThe same has happened to me. Gave him two, nothing happened.
and I can't find any mention of Captain Compolten in either Akanon or Steamfont.
Also, I am only getting "black box fragments" from the rogue clockworks, not rusty blackboxes. The hail text says black boxes, not rusty or fragments. I am very confused.

Is this quest broken? I have given him 2 black boxes twice and have had nothing happen.

I have tried to give manik many of the black boxes and pieces of black boxes... and nothing has happened... is there anyway anyone can help out?

I also received the message saying I must give two boxes to Captain Compolten, but I can't find him anywhere. Can someone please help?

Read the earlier posts, about intital Hail text output, the poster says Compolten might refer to himself in 3rd person. Have you actually TRIED to give Manik Compolten 2 boxes?
You can't miss this joker. He is the Warrior guild leader.

Ask a guide to show you to the gemchopper's hall. He is in one of the rooms near where the guide will stop.

Where can i find this ****?
Use the Find function and uncheck "Only show destinations that I can use." Alternately say "where gemchoppers" to a guide robot. (The location is 900, -470.)
