Going to the Loda Kai cave is something you should definitely do at low levels on the TLP servers as soon as Luclin opens. You can gather a set of armor that's as good as banded without having to invest in smithing to craft it, if you are patient enough to wait for all the pieces to drop, and it will last you a while. Even if you aren't able to kill the Loda Kai's yet, you can find the armor pieces on the local merchants sometimes because some people don't want to drag them around if they don't need them, or you can buy them directly from players farming the cave. A lot of rangers used to wear banded for a long time in the old days, because getting better armor like Ivy Etched or Tolan's wasn't as easy back then as it is now, so this should do you well on a TLP server until you are strong enough to upgrade.
If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?

I found that poachers drop the loda kai armor most frequently. They also drop poached hides and some pretty good h2h newbie weapons

Also, they drop ruined cat pelts, which can get your tailoring skill up to 26. I know, it's not that big a deal, but after that, I kept making the armor. Instead of selling the the ruined pelt for a few copper, I bought a pattern for about 7 silver, and sold the completed product back to a vendor for about 1.3 gold. So, a ruined pelt can make you about 6 silver.

LOL, that sounds funny, but 6 silver is better than 6 copper...
