In Low Level Zones:

Warrior.

Spectres hit for a maximum of 96, and tend to attack rather quickly. They move somewhat slowly, and can be outrun even without speed-enhancing spells.

They have relatively few hp for their level, which is offset by their high damage output. Their two special attacks of a stun spell and a lifetap spell also help their damage output.

In Laurion Inn:

  • Type: Undead
  • This mob spawns at the undead ruins in the north part of the zone.
  • Mob sees through invisibility: Yes

Do the specs still cast? I remember when my druid and necro were youngins' in Oasis, they were jumped a couple of times by wandering specs who lifetapped for 200. Since then, both have returned, one in his 30s, the other in his 40s, but the specs haven't cast anything when I attacked them. I'm curious about if there's been a change.

Have been quadding these (in Oasis) for some time now. I can guarantee 100% the ones in Oasis DO NOT CAST. I have, however, camped the ones in the Feerott near the ent to Fear and they DO cast a small lifetap. As a wizzie HP's isn't my greatest asset so those taps can be troublesome, just have to be careful. Only prob I've ever had with Oasis specs is they have a tendency to warp around the island on me occasionally when I initially aggro them. Be prepared for that and it is a piece of cake.

Check it out, I was passing threw oasis with my former 30 Wizard and saw the tower. I was curious as to what lurked in there and was agroed by two of these creepy things. Well, it just so happened I had my Column of Lightning Spell up and I had a sow (not really need though). Well, I Levitate over the water and Quaded them. Saw that at lvl 30 they gave me almost half a bubble for just two of them. So, I camped them after I got C3, pulled all 8 and kited them to the north as to not **** off any lower levels. Well, after I killed them I was oom and at 100% health with like 2 and a half yellow bubbles. Needless to say I stay here for a while. Thier loot isn't so bad either. Have fun.

We've established that u can solo these guys easily, but how many, in oasis alone there r 8 specs (there r 4 in tower)and not unless u do something im unaware of u can not pull all of these guys befoe they spawn again when u r below 40. If u powerlvl here u will practicly be taking Leveling potions... i used my 53druid to pwrlvl my 40paladin within 2hours DING, not 41 but 45... I know not every1 has a high lvl druid to help him, but as every1 complains there r millions of druids, so just ask guildee or friend for an hours help... These things are easy as hell if you single pull them. They run so slowly that you can fear kite them and just chase them while whacking with your blade. Just always use instrument of nife and stun when the fear breaks. I've been getting about half a blue per solo kill in the oasis and their 3-12pp bronze and normal scythes aren't bad either they drop words ranging from liek 3gp-1pp each and things called globes of fear, Lore 3gp *shrug*

Just had hit 51, and was trying to figure out where to go to hunt. I was bored as heck running around all over Antonica. Thats when I stumbled upon Oasis again. I hunted here in earlier levels, and was slowly progressing thanks to Spectres and Sand Giants. Given the amount of times I'd been killed by both, it was time for some revenge. Low and behold they all where green, So out of sick pleasure I slaughtered every Spec and Sand Giant in the zone with the greatest of ease. Much to my surprise I made a lot of lower level friends that night.

These things are crazy easy to kill if you have the mana (KEI). As a lvl 30 Wizard I would hit a sow potion, have a heal potion handy, and use one of my lev spells.

Don't ***** with snaring them - it makes no noticeable difference, and you can outrun them without sow even.

I pull the whole island to the sro zone area and run around them in a big circle until they are packed tight. Then I just run away, stop and hit them with a AOE, repeat. Right now these things are all red and yellow to me, but I don't have any problem.

They are a fairly unique type mob in that they are soo slow. If I am getting low on mana - I run for 15 seconds or so and sit facing them. When I see them 20-30 seconds later I get up and run again. That way I can maintain the kite while getting my mana up.

Anyway, I wish I could soothe mobs, but since I can't - this is a good way to do it.

As a Necro, I started soloing the Feerott spectre at 35 or 36 (its been a while). I know that occasionally one would spawn that was yellow or white, but considering its low HP and that it was feared almost the whole fight, it was easily soloable

oasis is like my level 12-19 home here and I've been killed by lockjaw, the spectres, SG's, and even (once) cazel more than anyone!! (not literally) I got my revenge once I hit 44. I'm a 44 druid, and I say
"Once you hit 44 in the Dreadlands, the whole world is yours to DoT."
the dot is kickass. It only takes 2 drifting deaths and a firestrike to kill these things, my only problem is that I cannot single pull. my boyfriend has to do that (heh heh) since I end up pulling the whole fricken island. you should NOT attempt to try these guys just when you hit 30 just because youre 30 and you can do cool things. you will end up usually oom or dead, trust me. I tried killing sg's at 31 because I thought this. big mistake I ended up being oom and dead. fortunately there was a 60 cleric (she was nice) in the zone. what I suggest is you dont try these things until 44 (for all you druids out there ^_^), because the dot is your weapon literally! Im a regular in oasis with a few other people. there's a 38 druid who regularly comes to oasis and whenever shes kiting specs and sg's she usually sends me a tell that she's oom and she needs me to finish them off. so wait until 44 unless you're such an uber twink and you think you can kill these at 31 and outdo death, go ahead. I'm not complaining.

just my 2cp ^_^

I don't know what a level 60 Enchanter would be doing with a level 35 spectre pet, maybe just playing around with it... but for sure, the Necro's - I do believe Epic - is a spectre pet, summoned just like a normal pet.

This would be a lvl 60 necro. The spell to turn into a spectre is actually a hp to mana conversion spell call Arch Lich. Similar to the skeleton form they get at lower levels.

EASY XP
# Jun 17 2002 at 1:14 PM Rating: Default
This so far has been the Easiest xp for me so far to date. I am a 40 andI flew through 37 and 38 while soloing spectres in OOM.
Very Easy, either have sow or high swimming(swimming 145). I used soothe then when pulled (most i ever pulled at a time was 2)I would open up with expluse/dismiss undead while they moved there slow **** to shore...they resist about 4 out of 10 times but normally even when resist do some dmg. Once on shore I would root and attack with ghoulbane and nife....(could use my BaBS but like proc better). When you double proc you can hit for 250 or so with nife plus 155 with ghoulbane. I also have an fbss which makes my ghoulbane roughly a 15/20 weapons so getting in that many strikes too proc proved easy and they died quick. On few times i got 2 pulls I simply rooted and stepped back. I would reroot when necessary. Very Easy XP for Paly as these are tailormade easy kills for smart Paly's...
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 03 2002 at 8:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok - let's put a couple things in perspective.
RE: EASY XP
# Sep 07 2002 at 11:24 AM Rating: Good
Rrra let's actually put them into perspective for you.

First, that individual said they flew through 37 and 38 soloing Spectres so being level 40 has nothing to do with their comment other than to give perspective.

Second, I am a level 36 Paladin. At level 30 I soloed all but the crazed goblins in Butcherblock to do the Ghoulbane quest. And I did it twice since we've got to turn in the ghoulbane once or twice. By doing the quest twice, meaning I have the combine bag with all the components sitting in the bank since the ghoulbane is Lore and I am using Ghoulbane on undead.

So let's run down your points shall we.

1) No he's not a SUPER TWINK. Ghoulbane easy level 30 quest (can do sooner I believe too). Nife is a SPELL, level 30 in fact. And FBSS, well if you're patient enough and you know people who regularly wipeout the area near the frenzy room it doesn't make you a twink to have one before level 40.

2) Just because his two hander is a BABS doesn't make him a NOOB! Soulfire sure as heck isn't easy to get, so for under level 40 BABS isn't great but isn't a NOOB weapon either.

3) He never said he was 40 beating on them.

Next time step back a bit so you can actually see the true perspective, you might actually learn something.

hehe Whoever you were flaming got their message filtered out.
But I have something to say.
I got my Ghoulbane at 22 when it was really usefull.
I'm lvl 45.
I'm not a twink.
I'm armed with a Di`Zok Imperial Katana which I earned by dieing twice on a raid trying to keep the clerics alive, on a side not i failed because no one can solo the queen. It was a messy Necro CR.
I'm also armed with a Centi SS and Sarnak Battleshield.

I'm forgetting the point of this post.. aww hell.
I'm gonna go kill more specs

When one of these bad boys comes up and is slaughtering my group. I'm clicking the 'Done' button frantically so I can leave, but my stupid computer decided to lag just then. I FINALLY got up and started to make my way to the zone, and POW! 74 dmg, 86dmg, Lifetap thingy (can't remember exact name). Well, I was dead, although I got a lot farther that I expected. I will get my revenge...oh yes...in a few levels...the revenge will come....I will make lots of revenge....these guys will get soooo...well, I guess you get the idea.

If you really want to hunt specs, might I suggest the ones in Qeynos aquaducts? You have an area you can sell in not 100 feet away, privacy, and you usually get just 2 specs per pull until you break the spawn. There's 4 or 6 specs I think.

I Solo Specs
# Apr 04 2002 at 10:52 PM Rating: Default
Specs in Oasis

Specs are ez to solo, but the hard part is getting them off the island, as far as i know, druids cant harmoney (bummer i know) these mobs, but u can attempt to lower agro and help radius by using the Soothe line of spells. Necros have Numb The Dead spell which uses bone chips (i think), but turns undead agro radius to like nothing. The best classes to solo specs are (in order of how good they are) Necro, SK, Paladin, and Cleric (clerics are in a bad position since they lack a pet to tank and cant do dmg and heal at the same time: lifetap).

Once the specs have been Soothed or Numbed, its time to pull. Have Dead Man Floating up (its awsome) or Levitation (batwing burnage) or Spirit of Eagle (uber spell). DO NOT try to pull and swim. have good MR to resist Spec Fear and Stun spell, because they can be nasty when used on u. The best way to break the camp is to get 2 or 3 groups to get the specs, since there are 6 there, likely if u soothe them all, u will pull perhaps 3 max, if 1 resists...ouch.

Using Spook the Dead is preferable since low mana cost, fear is too expensive(in mana), but do what u thinkis best, im not a Fear expert. once they are spooked snare them using darkness (if possible) dotn root, because they will turn around and woop u if they are feared and u are meleeing. Necros should have NO trouble, and if they do, they suck =P. Recommend lvl for spec soloing = 40.

I soloed specs with my 41 pal using Instrument of Nife (proc vs undead for 243dd) and Spook the Dead. I could have used Ghoulbane, but procs are %chance dependent and i dont take chances on getting spec owned. i used mithril 2handed low dmg low del, but a good hitter (use Arbitors and FBSS?). XP is great, but pulling 2 is a NIGHTMARE!!! use undead nukes, but they are kinda weak so they are best for finishing off the mobs. i never had to zone or LoH when getting individual pulls, so its not THAT bad.

Good idea = HAVE SOW!!! (or SPirit of Eagle.

I'd like to throw in my 2 cp, as well. A single skilled bard is capable of pulling the entire spec island and kiting them all to their demise. Here's the trick... levi out to the island, draw aggro, and pull the train to the flat area just north of the South Ro zone. Charm one of the specs and turn him on the others. They'll beat on him for a while and when charm breaks the previously charmed mob should be down to almost no hp and you then turn your chants on him. Bam! Wicked exp. Repeat until the entire train is gone. The last spec is always the big pain to kill. Being that bards can't (or at least shouldn't) go toe-to-toe with mobs, you gotta fight smart. Twist chains (optional--specs are very slow) and your chants and run circles around him. This technique of charm kiting that many mobs takes a great deal of practice, however. When I first tried this I'd either get smoked by being hit repeatedly with lifetaps from 8 angry mobs or I would allow my pet to get killed by the other specs, resulting in no exp. Keep up the practice and remember that a skilled bard is a force to be reckoned with.

yep, snaring is definately helpful deeper into the zone (ie 3s) to avoid bringing back more trains.

if fighting at the entrance, be careful if you're a big ogre or troll since you can't zone out if there's a few other people there. It can get very crowded quickly when a train is shouted. I've seen numerous people die because they get blocked in (my small halfling butt can duck and walk under them)

Spec trains to docks
# Apr 02 2002 at 5:25 AM Rating: Excellent
A couple of observations about specs and trains in general:
I have leveled a couple of toons in Oasis to 19 or 20 and have noticed that once someone has lost control of the specs, they have the same path every time. The path goes right past the docks.
After seeing this once, and I died, I stopped medding on the docks and started medding on the pillars off shore. I never had problems with medding again.
There is an old southern saying, 'If you don't want to get run over by the train, get off the tracks'. I say this because I see toons medding at zone spots, or at ramps to zome lines, and the get mad because you shout train to xxxx zone. Med off of the tracks, you don't get hit by the train. Once someone sent me a tell saying I should pay for them to get rezzed because they were AFK, and didn't see the shout. Wasn't even my pull, group next to mine over pulled and when they came for us, we all headed for the zone. Use your head, I med up on a wall or if someplace like EW, on the shore line, never on the bridge to IC or valley to GD, use your head, go were trains are not going to go, not where there will go.

Why all the whining about Spec trains in Oasis? I know they are there, you know they are there, so get used to avoiding them (they move very slowly) and get on with your hunting of Crocs and orcs. head for the Spires out in the water or head for a zone. if you can't handle having Specs and SG in the zone, go and hunt somewhere else.

Specs give nice exp and loot. They are going to be hunted, no matter how much you want to ***** about it. Cry me a river if you can't handle that...

RE: how many?
# Apr 19 2002 at 9:02 AM Rating: Decent
There are several there. Not sure of an exact number, but I have seen as many as 4 on track.

However, a little ways out from the entrance is a single spectre spawn. It respawns roughly about every 10 minutes and is far enough away that it won't attract the others.
