1 or 2 of these can spawn from some of the 'traps' that are scattered throughout the Akheva Ruins.
They can drop a variety of things:
Akuel xi ans vius, for the cloak of truth quest
Swirling shadows
Essence of Darkness
Shaded armour pieces
Shaded weapons (dagger/staff/sword)
Pallid weapons (I've seen pallid hand wraps drop)
They are also a good source for the Akheva lucid shard.
If you want to hunt these, a good tactic is to enter Akheva, run straight, past the broken column on the floor, and into the room with the statue. There are two nooks on either side of the room with a Shrouded Anisher in it. Kill the anisher, then carefully walk around the immediate area and in the rubble.
Yes, that means you will be triggering traps.
If you're lucky, you'll get one or two of these to spawn. Or, you might end up with a shade golem, which can also drop the lucid shard, but none of the other items. Worst case scenario is a worm trap spawns, but they seem to be rarest - and deadliest.

It would be interesting to know if their assassinate skill follows a level restriction. Player Rogues only get the skill at 60 and only works on mobs level<49, these mobs can be considerably lower. Has anyone above level 50 been assassinated?
OK, funny story. I was a bored level two shadowknight in my uber newbie tunic, and decided to see if I could go say hi to the Va'Dyn. A kind shaman invised me and I marched into Akheva. Got to that big room where the worms spawn, and was starting toward the shaded stones, then...
The Insanity Crawler begins to cast a spell
(apparently, he drained all the mana I didn't have. :) ) But it still broke my invis.
Then the shaded stones gave their aggro messages, but before they could come kill me... A shadow reaver coalesced out of the void (or something like that. :) ) and killed me.
Now here's the funny bit. He didn't assassinate me. He hit me for 153. Maybe at level 2, I just wasn't worth the trouble. :)

Just last night I took a level 1 naked rouge in there to explore and was going all over the place with no problem when I got a message that said something like my mind wonders. Something like that and I then went from sneak run and whack I was dead.

assasinate is rogue ultimate skill for Backstabbing.. point being.. if you dont want 32k dmg taken off of your char dont turn your back on these things and run.. =P lol .. be safe "r" then last time..

Hi all,
Primeval did this area last nigth waiting for the VD to pop. I recieved a Pallid mace from this fellow. Stats were 13 29 wis sta cha str svmagic agi hps mana +3 magic damage. Think that's it it's a 1 hb most classes can use has a skull on the end hehe really neat lookin.

You gotta be pretty stupid to be assassinated by this monster...considering everyone knows he can do it why the hell would you run to group leaving your back facing him?..hahaha
Use a bow or some other type of long range attack. Going back to camp running backwards will just let the mob beat you to death from the front
My favorite would be snare and haul *** back to camp deftly tripping every trap there is... damn mind worms go leech someone elses mana

Well, I guess when you pull this you better either have a harmshield/divine aura class pull it or have a cleric bestow divine aura on the puller eh ? :)

i think these also drop a really cool looking sword called shadows blade.. forgot the stats but i know its not magical...heh but im pretty sure it was this guy

Just as a note:
Was wandering around in akheva as a lvl 1 halfling rogue with sneak/hide up, had just come from Maiden's, where nothing saw through it...nothing that is till I got owned by one of these buggers...
I'm not sure if they see through all sneak/hide, orjust my lvl 1 wuss version, but just thought I'd toss this out there, as a warning, heh...

Well, I dont really like calling others names but it seems that people dont really do any research into anything ever.
Rogue halflings are THE explorer twinks, roll one up, never play it exept for sneaking around.
Make sure to worship the right God as well, you can do corpse runs from wherever inside Hole if you have half a brain and a map.
Makes soloing so much nicer.

It is possible for a level 1 halfling rogue to sneak into some high level zones.
Also, in Ahkeva, not all mobs will aggro on anyone. Unless you have been killing mobs in Maiden's Eye which causes your Akheva faction to drop. As I can remember, if you have never killed any of Vius mobs or any robed mobs, then you should be safe from them.
If you want to increase your faction in Akheva, do the Shield of warding quest a few times. :)

drops a 11-22 1lb 5 to all resists except fire thats minus five... looks like a dark velium stick

The shaded staff got one of these in fp market to give to my lvl 5 mage 11/22 1hb wt 8.0 would have been nice for my monk :(
