These guys also drop Words of Tenure now, which, as far as I know are only used in the advanced research for Minion of Shadows, the lvl 53 Necromancer rogue pet.
I am so eager to kill these guys but I am still not sure I would win. I 2-box with a 47 Shammy with me a 56 Paladin with a Windblade (thanks to my brother). I normally can take on 49 and below without a problem but this guy has me worried.
I will try one near the ML Zone with my shammy slowing and debuffing plus some heals if needed, I will try these guys tomorrow. If I can take these guys without too much problem, Wow, I will be in heaven in The Grey.. endless pulls.. to lvl 60.
Did these guys today.. YeaH.... easy kills with my shammy and me. he slows and debuffs the mob very good. So, 50-51 lvl mobs for me are no longer a problem (as long as they are spell casters).
Okay my dream has been realized and I can hunt here for a very long time.
Oh one thing, some of the traps out there are these stupid little Bolder-ettes...wowsers. I tripped the trap and 3 of the goobers popped out of the sand and started to tear me apart... only 50 hp at a time but.. a Shimmering Rockfiend aggro'd and started to summon me. I ran like baby towards Letalis zone but I was summoned about 10 times.. I had to use my LOH to extend my life and wow out of 3300 HP twice, I had 12 HP when I zoned.. whew! You gotta love this game.. I was shaking for an hour but loved every minute of it. What a Rush!!!!
The shimmerings (as I like to call em) are cake to a 59 druid. Since they are extremely fire and cold resistant it's left to Winged death and Drones of doom (ES vambs) to do the workload. I usually keep two of them root cooking at once to keep things interesting. Seven stacks of both dots (with extened affliction III) finishes them off nicely. About 12k hp. As of the recent research changes these guys also can drop assorted runes, words, pages, etc. I have yet to see a single one resist a snare and only very rarely do they resist a root. Also roots always lasts full duration, they never break early unless your nuking. This is my experience with these rocky little buggers after killing about 100 or so of them. Good hunting out there.
This things are extremely fast moving, makes quad kiting other stuff in the zone tough because of the different run speeds the mobs have. With JBoots I am only slightly faster when they are not snared.
I killed one of these today, guessed about 8.5k hp from looking at log (used DoTs but it was rooted always). Killed 2 more later and checked log again, around 11.5k! Seemed like a huge variability but dbl-checked and it was right.
High fire resist, have not resisted any snares, roots or magic-based nuke. Aggro range may have increased with last patch. This morning many near ML zone (more than ever before) and appear to be aggroing from farther out.
They wander and spawn on traps. But unlike some other trap spawned NPCs, they do not disappear if un-agroed. You will commonly see them on top of rocks and commonly won't see them in rocks. The later makes for a great wake-up call as you are running cheerfully to your favorite pull spot.
These guys are nasty. Faster than jboots and their dly on the swing is almost nill. Forlorn Deeds takes 95% on the first cast. They are charmable and seem to hold fairly long at 199cha but do so only with sow on.
These are the second best charmed pet in The Grey IMO. First being Timeless Golems because of their low natural run speed and golemsmash stun/dmg proc. The SRF have a proc that seems to do around 80dmg called pebblepelt(?).
They have dropped both shiny granite chips and polished granite sphere(?).
They do not summon, unlike their tiny conterparts Boulderlings.
Worst experience I had with one of these as my pet was when I spawned bourderlings and charm broke. LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...

Well here it is, Necro 47(me) and Druid 47 and 45 chanter zoned into grey last nite, and pop into one of those... well we decide to try him anyhow ... so to make sure he was in range(was red) i leached(low resist) and it stick, so druid Snared (fist cast) then feared first time ... keeped him fear the whole time. Did not resist it Then proceded to put all my DoT(except Heat base resisted 3 time) and keeped him diseased at all time and the two others did dots and try to DD ... while pet was beating on it ... took a while but was good xp ...
A dire charmed SHissar Revenant will OWN a rockfiend one on one. If I remember correctly, it takes maybe one or two Shadowbonds for safety's sake on the snake and Rockfiend is toast!
These are one of the stronger mobs in the Grey, they have more hp than anything else and hit harder, they are good exp tho. They aren't imposable to kill, just a bit harder than the snakes.
Did you know... these rocks are considered... SUMMONED!!!!!!
Yes, druid/mages can banishment them... Exile summon works too... =D Almost always hit for full with it too... If your in trouble... Cast banishment.. and POOF
They must have changed this in the nearly 2 years since this post was made... I went to cast Exile Summoned on them today and got the message "This spell only works on summoned beings".
No wonder I had such a hard time with these at 54! They are just below me. Anyway, I don't like these all too much. They kinda tear me up pretty fast and don't do my pets a lot of good either. I had trouble sticking snares and roots. I avoid them.
He was added i believe (i was told by a nerco hunting the area) to stop the AE groups from running this zone, i guess they were making a killing , they made this mob now almost if not totally unstunnable , taking AE groups out of the grey
Have been playing three characters at the same time in the Grey, a 60 cleric, 57 warrior and 50 wizzie. The other critters are no problem but this one is dangerous. He is definitely Hasted, hits VERY fast. If I dont have the wizzie fight, he is a five to six CH kill. If the wizzie fights about a four - I dont let the wizzie cast till the mob is halfway or more down. He is near impossible to do much with Cold based or Fire based spells but Magic based like Rend do fine. My Cleric's Fear works great on him. Fear works great in this area on all the mobs. The Mobs run forever and most will not show back up. Rocky does not see Invisible, which really helps since it is common for a couple to camp zoneins both at the SD and ML entrances. My cleric gets invised bye the wizzie , zones in and Fears one. Zones back to safety. If just the two were there, can then zone in and kill it with the trio. If about four skels were also there (not uncommon from peeps training zone and/or wizzies quad kiting and running out of manna), have to jump in and out until all Feared away.
Dude playing three character you picked the wrong class combos jessus man. perfect three account combo is cleric, enchanter and drood. anything can be killed outdoors and indoord you switchout the cleric with a warrior, if you need any help let me know Miss Farmer :)
Man this is the Perfext Duo For me At Least Druid, Shaman, and a monk. Shaman For Slows, Druid for Snare Monk for Damage, and if i get adds kite em wit Druid or Root/Dot Wit Shaman. But thats just me :)
He has semi-high MR, maybe even moderate. Prolly luck but I got snare on him first cast, and root took 5 casts to stick the first time, 2 casts to stick second time. Resisted all fire DD I tried, but never resisted drones or drifting death (low resist magic dots).
Didnt get to finish him cuz like a fool I hit the wrong button and ported to Sro /bonk. Would have been a tough fight though.
its not that hard for that level. it is harder than the other spawns though. I presume its over 45. It hits for 140 and hits kinda fast and has decent hp (maybe 6.5k+?) but tanked it as 55 rnger with low mana on cleric when it was pulled. can also be snared and feared. similar to drolvarg captain in karnors.
