I'll answer my own post I suppose. I killed probably 45+ warriors (maybe 50+) before the tendril dropped. The best concentration of warriors is in the temple inside the fire ring. I would pull the temple with my warrior and just furious them down. That got rid of the most mobs in the fastest manner I could muster. If you can get to the camp site north of the ring, there is one wanderer that has the potential to go thru there -- much nicer for not having constant adds thru the fight.
I just got the tendril yesterday for my 66 bard. I noticed there were several questions about PoFear and the mobs in this thread, so I figured I would post. Anyone who raided Fear back when it took a raid to clear can disregard this post.
Fear was one of the first planes. It was part of the original game, I think. It's an outdoor zone with a few houses and small temples and other structures.
Fear is much different than any of the planes in PoP that people level in today. Fear was designed to be a raid zone, not a leveling zone, and it was designed to be hard. Back in 2000 it was hard. Even in 2003-2004 I wiped once or twice in raids on Cazic Thule (the wipes were on CT himself, not the trash). The zone is a piece of cake now, but I have major respect for any guilds who cleared it and dropped CT back when the level cap was 50 and there were no AAs.
For those who have never been there before, this is what you should know:
1. There are two named golems that death touch (-100000 HP, unresistable), so watch out for them. Their names are Dread and Fright. Invulnerability / Reflection / etc spells do not protect against the DT. So if you see them then A) avoid them, or B) have a friend or pet eat the DT. They don't seem to cast it more than once every 30-45 seconds, so if you beat them down fast then you're good to go. (The golem "Terror" does NOT death touch; he's an easy kill).
2. Agro range is huge. Expect trains of 10-15 mobs as you wander around. The mobs are MUCH easier than most PoP mobs--I would say they are about as hard as rats on the first level of PoJustice. So clearing the trains won't be a problem for most people. (Note: I just returned to EQ after a 4 1/2 year absence, so my bard is just 66; I don't know if agro range decreases once mobs are gray. Most were green or light blue to my bard.)
3. Quite a few mobs will try to fear you, so make sure you have good resists. Anyone in Defiant gear should be fine.
4. Cazic Thule does wander a portion of the zone (the north east corner, if I recall, but I might be wrong). There's no flagging or keying to get to him, or anything like that. I haven't fought him since 2004, so I don't know how tough he would be today with today's gear, but he's tough enough to be sure to avoid unless you're confident you can take him.
5. The tendrils seem to be a semi-rare drop. I only had to clear about 15-20 warriors before I got one. I did have to visit Fear twice before I got it. The respawn time in Fear is significantly longer than other Planes (I think it's like 4 or 8 hours) so if you clear all the warriors and don't get your tendril then I wouldn't sit around waiting for them to repop =)
6. As a previous poster said, most warriors are in the temple. Some do wander though, so either track or bring a friend with track.
7. Resists are high on some of the named. My 66 mage box couldn't land any spells on Terror (one of the named golems). I tried resist debuff, fire and magic, and nothing would land. So be prepared for that if you're a pure caster class. All the trash take nukes just fine, though.
I hope this info helps people who have never been there before. I would think that most classes 60+ would not have a problem with this zone--especially if they have a merc. If you're a bit worried then bring a friend. You definitely don't need a raid or anything like that for this zone anymore. One or two people with mercs should do just fine.
1: Quite a few mobs wander, most were green/grey to a 71 Rogue.
2: All of them, when you con them, have the little title underneith the normal con message that says "This would take an army to defeat!" Which simply means if you kill them, you won't fully be able to rest until 5 minutes (if you want to be technical, 4min 55sec)
3: ALL mobs have an insanely huge aggro range. If you go up to or near the temple uninvis'd, you will probably get around 8-9 mobs on you.
4: All of the wandering mobs don't seem to be in any particular spawning pattern that I saw. Any of them could be a different spawn each time.
Considering i had no information to go with when entering Fear, I hope this helps a little bit.
just went to fear today to get a tendril for my baby bard... cleared the whole zone of amygdalan mobs and all i got were a bunch of the eye's and some sk armor drops, along with the sheild !! what is up with that!! these used to drop common, now i can't even get one on a clear !! argh!
sk 1.5 epic piece. drops off knights and warriors.

Posted:Aug 04 2004 at 2:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) these guys are tough...hit us right after he zoned in. Seemed like all the mobs are underconned here or there are so many adds. Was there last night for the first time. I can definitely see why people hate this zone.
3. They're found in the interior of PoF, most commonly near CT's Temple and near the smaller temples for Dread, Fright and Terror. About half of them are on a patrol pattern that takes them through most of the zone, however you will rarely (if at all) see them from the zone walls where most people pull to.
i just came from a long 8 hours of solo'n fear with my 65 bard trying to get the whip for my epic and .....
1. NO the Amys do not summon
2. YES they can be mezzed and can be charmed(i was swarm kiting the whole temple of them)
3. there are a couple who wander through out the zone but mainly they are inside the temple surrounded by fire. each of the named golems have 2 as a gaurd.
hardest part is breaking fear so i wouldnt recomend trying unless you have FM because the chain agro you get builds up fast and it sux to be kiting 5 of 6 mobs and suddenly LOADING PLEASE WAIT... because dread or fright decided to DT you.
when i broke in all i did was make sure i had my resist gear on 212 RM and i killed off the toads first because they love to cast fear( usually resisted 99% of the time but it only takes once to cause a problem) then i took out the chillers and the imps because they love to warp you all over the place
pretty useless for a warrior though. it was a joke loot on our run. warrior rarely use a shield at this level. mostly for weddings and other functions ;)

These also drop every single peice of Indicolite armour, which is the full set of warrior only PoF armour and is golden, sorta like the bard only armour in the planes...looks very good on me (Half-Elf warrior)...and the stats on the stuff is very nice. They also drop a 1h-slashing weapon- 9 dam/25 dly +5 str +4 dex called the Amygdalan Tendril. Also a good item. Fear is like a second home to me (= Very fun and somewhat scary indeed.
Thanks, Darrkangel Eagleheart Level 50 Warrior The Rathe, owner of guild "Eagle Knight Gallantry"
How often do the tendrils grop. need it for my epic and was wondering how long im gonna have to wait for it and what kind of comprtition ill be up against. Do warriors actualy want the tendril?
Thenius Darkpenman <Disciples of Chaos> 49 Bard on Quellious
My guild was there with some help from allies the other night and I think a total of 3 of these dropped before we cleared the zone.
Warriors don't really need a weapon of this sort at the level they are for Fear. I'm sure if you found a warrior he could help you if the Bard Epic you seek can be MQ'd
More hp's on these mobs then most mobs in fear, and they have some magic resistances. Very hard to mes these mobs, so enchanters be aware. The majority of these mobs come from the temple near Cazic Thule and it's quite hard to pull them if you have no experience in doing it.
