Solo in Echo

I spent lvls 28-32(Troll Warrior)in Echo working the Mutant/rejects caves and the first Boglings right after the big double doors. This guy and Roy gave me the most trouble, you MUST interupt this guy or he will nuke you oblivion. He dropped the Tinker's Tools for me on the fourth kill, other drops were deluxe toolboxes 0% WR 10 slot giant box, not really bad. As with most of the rejects he pops at one of the pre determined spots instead of a mutant. However, if the area has been cleared you might get several of the "named" type in the same room, makes it tough. Overall xp is similar per kill to Paludal, critters just hit harder :) good luck

Dack is found in Echo Cavern by way of secret entrance next to Soul Binder in Sh. He hangs out in the mutants area. He pops in all the rooms so kill everything. O don’t touch Crazy Pete or Roy both are under con. Best way to kill is single pull if you can. If you have a pet and can fear you own this area. Casting fear spell makes these guys run back and forth right in front of guard to SH. Just keep fearing and nuking or melee up to you. I lvl myself from 28 to 37 doing this. Killed this guy 70 time before I got tinker tool. Enchanter

Hard nuker
# Dec 03 2002 at 6:04 PM Rating: Default
Note of mutants: all name mutants can spawn ANYWHERE with few excptions: Crazy Peet, Preacher, Pristess and little Amonzo(sp?) have fixed location. Pristes (and Amonzo behind her) and way back in the cave so chances are you will never get that far before cave start respawning.

The dem gnome is a hard nuker and have one hell of a fear resist.

Killed him a few times with my 32 SK. While using fast weapon and bash will sure do a few interupts, but it seems he can chain cast his lighting spell, which does about 110-250 dmg, faster than i can swing my Noct blade (18/26). He eslse quite good at recovering from interupts, best tactics to deal with him and not be with silver of life left at the end of fight is:

1. fear kite him. He breaks fear about evry 15 seconds, but otherwise he can nuke you for about 600 dmg in those 15 seconds

2. leave him alone. After puling from mutant caves i finaly got him spawn way out of the main path - realy far away from general agro range - so i left him be. Now i can safly kill mostly anyhting from the cave for same XP/loot and not worry about dem 200+ hp nukes from the dem gnome

Kill all the mutants he will pop in one of the spots . dont touch the named guys there Except for Dack Tiptopper. if you do, the named will probably spawn first, delaying his spawn. once all the mutants are dead just keep hitting track. he will spawn a hell of alot quicker.
Try to pull him away from the preacher and the female caster, they will heal him. oh and as soon as he dies you will see him on track within 1 min or so if not Immediately. i learned this the hard way. after i realized this i nolonger let people pull from the area the whole area where these guys are is YOUR camp. i know it sound like your hogging the area but anything to make your camp easier you will end up doing. oh dont forget your C3 if you are a Caster, this camp will keep you drained with him popping fast

Good luck guys

Took my 34 Ranger here and killed him along with a 26 Monk. Dropped the tools but this was after many attempts and it seems to be a very rare drop.
any spot
# Aug 26 2002 at 1:48 PM Rating: Decent
To clear up some confusion..
This wiz can spawn in ANY mutant spawn spot;except those that are fixed like Crazy Pete and The Preacher.
Also he can re-pop immediately after you kill him in one of those spots =)
Happens all the time in that area, you kill a named and he pops in the next slot.
Great fun to kill..gotta luv the sound gnome's make when getting hammered )
I have only seen tink tools drop once in my 50 or so kills (

This guy is a wizard and casts all the appropriate spells. He nukes you hard to start the fight, then roots you, then resorts to melee when he gets lom.

/agree i found this guy to be one of the harder mobs in the mutant area.

I found him all alone and soloed him as a 36/war and defeated him with 2 bubbles of hp left. His initial massive blows scared me a bit, but I decided to stay and defeat him and was successful. No tools though. What's so special about the tools anyway?
info update
# Jul 22 2002 at 11:48 PM Rating: Decent
heh, don't pull any mobs standing right near him too. He buffs em with dd shields and some other things i don't know what they are.

Umm, he almost always aggro's with a few other things, usually mutants. And he can root, so keep a guard up and group against him.
A threat to the hunt!
# Jul 14 2002 at 4:14 PM Rating: Decent
If you are hunting mutants, beware of this guy as he can be a serious problem. This bugger can be casting well before you know he has aggroed.

These nasty spells hit hard, and he will use them MANY times until you drop. Be careful, my friends and good luck with the tools!

I've now killed Dack some 40 (thats right, 40) times on Tarrew Marr trying to get the Tinkerin' Tools. It suffices to say my main and most of my alts have delux toolboxes, but NOT ONE DROP of the tools.

On Crynthia, I get the ring 1 in 10...

This is not a rare drop, its an ultra rare, or I am really unlucky.

Don't feel bad. I killed him with my main so many times that every character in my account had the toolbox populating every inventory and bank slot except for the occasional quiver or weight-redux bag.

Then, after my alts were high enough, they began to kill him consistently (this is a great zone for exp for high 20's low 30's), and I have yet to see the tinkering tools.

Believe me, I have killed Dack over 100 times and have never seen the tools. They are ultra rare.

Tools dropped opening day of luclin for me on the first kill... I kill him every time I head to FG... must have killed him about 50+ times, tools haven't dropped since. Very rare.

Up to 80 kills now, no tinkering tools. For two weeks, and 2%, I've given up camping this guy.
stats
# Jun 18 2002 at 1:49 PM Rating: Decent
He has about 940hp or so and punches for an average of 20. Hits you with mana shock that does 140-180 a hit, also dispels - took out my symbol of transal buff. Hard to take him out solo with 34 pally despite chain stuns and bash. OOM and on 15-20% health at end of fight. Think respawn is 15-20mins and mutants are sometimes placeholder.
It took 2 to get him
# May 24 2002 at 9:27 AM Rating: Default
A 26 Level Monk asked me to assist him and together we killed him. The room was cleared and it was just us against him. We killed him and looted the tool box. I would suggest not soloing him unless at least 30.

The spawn rates have changed since the last few patches. This guy can pop anywhere immediately upon death if there is an open spot in the mutant area. I believe only 3 of the named (Roy, Pete and Priestess) have their own area. So if Dack, Crinthia, Adelin, Gip, Murph, Marin, Torin has been killed Dack or anyone else for that matter will pop where ever is next to respawn. Yep this place has gotten confusing. Also, So far the pathing has been fixed for a few zones including this one. The spawn point just past the small room on the left (after the curtain) and in middle of hall needs to be a fast kill, or it will run away from guard area and towards other mobs.

# Apr 28 2002 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
me and my friend both lvl 29 im an SK and he is a necro were huntin here and killin the named mobs like crazy and he pulled a mutant and this guy came along necro mezzed it not sure how he does that but anyway i killed the mutant and just as the mutant dropped the mez wore off. well htis guy blasts me with his nuke spell which hit me for 179dmg twice in a row before i could finish killing the mutant and click on him well i was already pretty low and this hurt a lot. i was unconcious and the necro feared him and we took off maybe him alone would be pretty easy but not this time. but revenge will be mine
oh and these named mutants spawn extremely fast BTW

If you want to hunt this guy you have to enter Echo thru the secret wall in the room behind the Soulbinder in Shadowhaven. He can be found in the outcasts and mutants area.As for level he cons yellow to my 27 monk.He hits for mid 50's,but it's the nukes that get ya.Most don't land full for damage, thank Cazic for decent resists, but the most he hit me for was 141 cold based.Hope you get luckier than I did spent a week in here solo'ing from 20-27 with my monk, but also parked my 52 ranger in there to drop Dack when he spawned. And in 30-40 kills never seen the tools, does drop tons of toolboxes though, great for filling your bank with 10 giant slot containers.Happy hunting all.

he spawns by roy
# Mar 03 2002 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
dang this little booger sucks! but i found out a good way. all ya do is grab a cleric and when ya get to him ROOT him then have cleric keep stunning him. i nuke him, dot and other it was run lol
RE: he spawns by roy
# May 03 2002 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, most of the mobs in this area dont have specific spawn points with the exception of The Preacher, Crazy Pete, the Princess and the mushrooms that spawn near Pete. You will find them in all different spots. Roy may have a set point as well as I have never seen him out of the main 2nd room you have to pass thru the curtain to get too.

As for this little jerk, he is an undercon specifically because of his spell ability. I have done a fair bit of soloing just for fun in this area. As a 43 Warrior with good armor, good weapons and good skills, if I am not 4 or 5 bubs of health to start with I can all but kiss it goodbye. He is Light Blue to me and is a wizzie who routinely hits me with his DD blasts for up to the mid 160's, seems tougher to interrupt than most and just plain isnt a nice fella.

None of the other casters give me much of a problem (although Pete gets some good spells off too) and even Roy who is higher level (Blue to Me) is cake compared to this guy.

My 1c worth (recession on MT ya know),

dack dastardly!
# Feb 27 2002 at 4:13 AM Rating: Decent
Major undercon! - took out our moderately twinked 29 and 31 monks with ease. Was difficult to interupt and saw through FD. Keep away from him unless in a bigger group!
Did manage to kill him on first occasion (beginners luck i guess)dropped a 10 slot toolbox
This little bastard is no joke

I have killed him since level 39. Put your resist gear on because you'll need it. The best way to tackle him is to have some way to bash to interrupt his casting. Of course, as a paladin, I have my sheild and three stun spells at my disposal.

His nukes are cold, magic and fire based. He has a damage shield on and a damage absorb shield of about 200 hitpoints to begin the encounter.

If you time it just right, he can be slaughtered quite easily. Just wait until he begins to cast then bash him to interrupt casting. When he starts to cast again (and if you are a paladin), just cast a "cease" on him. His next cast will come at the same time as your bash button refresh, so repeat the interruption.

I've killed him so many times that me and all seven of my alts has the 10 slot toolboxes filling up all 8 inventory slots. He drops the toolbox all the time. I've let them rot and have given some to the guards. I must have killed him no less than 80 times and he has NEVER dropped the tinkering tools. Three straight 10 hour days hunting here and not one single tool. Soloing mutants, boglings, and needlites from level 37 to level 40 in Echo caverns and all I have seen from Dack are toolboxes.

I hate gnomes.

the little guy !
# Jan 13 2002 at 10:47 PM Rating: Default
The gnome spawns by "Roy" in that little area he is a wizard and he spawns by the other name guys so just kill everthing where roy spawns and he will spawn i killed him like 6 times and he drops the tool box ever time good luck

# Jan 30 2002 at 12:07 PM Rating: Default
actually if you kill other things in the mutant and outcast area, zack can pop where ever. This is the case with most of the mobs, cept probably those mobs that look like the recuso (human guys with beards). Zack has poped in the first room and the hallway for me, but he has never dropped the tools :( I'm gonna keep killing till he coughs them up, and put all the toolboxes on my alt :)
He casts a nasty cold based DD
# Jan 03 2002 at 5:40 PM Rating: Decent
I ran into him in echo caverns in the second "room" you pass after you go through the curtain and pass the guards. Hunted this room three times and ran into him only once. He hit me with a DD that landed for 161 damage. The message said something like "You are chilled...blahblah" so I am quite sure it is cold based. I had an endure cold buff on that gave me 60 cold resist and still got nailed for 161hp. The festering hags in unrest cast cold based DD's. Without the resist buff they hit for like 200, with the buff, about 80. So this guy's DD is potentially much more damaging with a low cold resist.
I would like to know what, if anything he drops. I got trained and had to feign death so I never got to kill him. If anyone has any loot info on this guy please post it.
