This creature now hits for double 234, and will quad with weapons. Buffed with druid buffs and a pair of Fine Steel daggers, he will kill regular gorangas in 15 to 20 seconds of melee and finish the fight with about 98% health remaining. Also, it has the raw DPS to kill Xi Vius that Complete Heal themselves, although it will be a long fight and he will require healing.

Without any healing, he can solo any goranga, including the chieftain, but he'll be at critically low health afterward. He can tank multiple regular gorangas at once, and kill them all, while losing only a couple bubbles of health.
Waste of time since the nerf

Charmed one of these, he broke charm almost immediately, re-charmed, buffed, sent him at vapire bat. Saw no xp.

Then sent him at a second bat. Two reanimated skeles came outta nowhere and took him down. Gated before they could do the same to me.

Not going to try that again. It's dangerous and the xp looks to be extremely slow.

It's too bad they nerfed pet xp. Like everything else, anything that has a good xp reward gets nerfed, especially if it is solo-related.

The animal/beast

Well just some food for thought, if it is an animal it can be feared. If it looks like an animal does not mean it is. More then likely it is cataloged as a beast not an animal. If the ranger is telling the truth, you were able to fear it, then it was an animal. Part about it not lasting very long is because you are using a ranger spell which is the lowest for of fear a druid has. At 51, druids have a 3rd version of fear, and it would presumably last significantly longer then the rangers fear.
pets

these guys make nice pets if you find the 53 version. they *will* dual-wield if given 2 diff weps. quad for 151 at lvl 53, kick bash.

Lotsa HP, around 10k, a bit lower attk than the reani drudges but more hp.

Very nice pets

Just one little request from a friendly magician. When you're fighting with us, please consider not charming beasts to be your pets. Invariably the charm breaks and your "pet" starts chewing on our oh-so-wimpy limbs.

A disobedient pet is far worse than no pet.

Enjoy the opportunity to let my pet tank while you sit back and amaze me with your archery damage.

I'd be pretty amazed too if I saw a Druid with ANY sort of archery skill considering druids CAN'T use a Bow/Arrow!

It's a simple mistake since the chain-look of Elysian gear make Druids look like pseudo-Rangers. But just to set the record straight:

Druids: CAN charm animals, CAN'T use a Bow.
Rangers: CAN'T charm animals, CAN use a Bow (and do some heavy damage with it if they are using /disc Trueshot)!

As for the disobedient pet situation, the best advice I can give you is the one I use myself: Stay away from the charmed pet as much as possible!

Just a little request...Be careful with misindentification, because for some reason a few Rangers get pretty upset when they are mistaken for 'treehuggers'.

As for the original post, /agree totally w/ you Crockett:
The Lv.53 version of this MOB (if you are lucky to find it) is the best pet a Druid can get in this zone.

Find one (sometimes you get lucky and one wanders near the Goranga Scout rock), "Glamour of Tunare" it, "Ensnare" it, "Call of Karana" on it, give it two different types of weapons, "Savage Spirit" it, and you then have a monster of a pet that hits like a truck.

It can easily take down Goranga trash (excluding Hunters/Scouts/named) and Toilers so fast you can literally chain pull to it. Avoid sic'ing it on the '4 arms' and 'towels' that are SKs...they usually cast Fear, which is not good for a pet which already has low Magic Resist due to "GoT" you cast on it.

If you can't find this particular pet, then 'a spectral wolf' will suffice even though it is a gimp compared to 'a ravenous beast.'

I did the root-dotting thing, I did the quad-kiting thing, however I find charming to be the best and most mana efficient way to gain exp./AA exp. in this zone. I never had to memorize an AoE ever again in this zone. By the way, KEI is helpful but not needed with this type of hunting since I hardly ever need to sit and med.

*Edited due to the fact that SOE changed the way charm exp works again /sigh. Apparently, a charmed pet will give you at most 66% exp if you do some damage to the MOB, if I read this right. Who knows if that might be changed (a.k.a. nerfed).

The armor is exactly what throws me (my poor guildie druids get so insulted when I make that mistake).

My bad.

I still hate charmed pets, but I'm getting better at noticing when the charm breaks. I sit very very far away from them now.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 26 2002 at 6:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was reading this page and it all says that these are hard. I Duo these with a 60 monk while waiting for a named to spawn. I slow them and Epic dot then hit with JBB while monk and pet hit him. I ususally only heal monk once with chloroblast during fight. By the end of fight I have used 25% mana and there is a dead mob at our feet. Was wondering if these have now been nerfed?

these beasts are charmable.

most as you say are 54+, which puts them
above the charmable range.. but some are
just on the borderline.

charmed lvl 53 ravenous beast, snared, and
buffed up tears through anything in this zone.

the only way to solo in this zone for me :)

Agreed. After getting LOTS of adds just trying to find one and having to Egress three times, finally got one without all the adds and tried charming him. It worked like a charm <hehe>. He was blue to me. Then I cast Savage Spirit and my DS and he was a killing machine. He stayed my faithful pet for three Goranga kills, then turned on me (still had 2/3 of his health). It was relatively easy to re-charm him (I kept him snared and the mobs and adds rooted) and continue killing. Finally after about 7 or 8 mobs, he got ganged up on by 4 Gorangas and died. GREAT experience for like 20 minutes of effort and probably the most fun I've had soloing for quite awhile. I'm definitely going to go back and do it again. Great pet! I just wish the charm would last longer! Maybe next level.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 06 2002 at 9:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Charm animal doesn't work because it is undead I believe...

Last night this beast dropped the lvl 54 bard song elemental chorus. If i can ever get out of 45...that will be of use =)
you can not do any spell that has to do with animal.
# Feb 27 2002 at 4:53 PM Rating: Default
It is odd but the druid that was with us tried doing some spell to animals and it said this is not a animal. so i do not know if this is a bug or what but i do know it can be feared!

These CAN be paniced by a ranger, but get ready for a LOT of resists (even with Tash/malo etc) and it will break VERY soon. Longest i was able to keep it panic'd for was maybe 8-10 seconds, trying to take a little heat off the MA to make time for the Cheal to hit. I doubt anyone below a 60 ranger could fearkite them, they just resist/break fear too often, and they almost always drop jack, so i wouldn't see the point.

always 55-56

This always cons white to yellow to my 55 pally.
He hits hard, around 120-150 max, enrages at 10% health, and does run unless snared or rooted.
If you run into this guy, be sure to have a cleric
or 2 shamans/druids or 1 of both for this guy.
Good luck to all of you

I would suggest avoiding these mobs. Yes. they can be 56 and are Tenecious! they like to double for well over 120 and have quite a fair amount of HP. a kill on one of these puppies often isnt worth the clerics mana and exp / loot. just avoid em. they dont drop anything that I have seen except for the lower level tanks in your group =)

Good number of HP's and were doubling our 60 war for 150. They drop nothing of interest. Good to avoid as they'll just slow your group down. Charmed, would make a kickass pet (until charm breaks) ;)
