Xi Vius also drop Essence of Darkness. I have gotten many in last few days
Just for Swirling Shadows?!
# Oct 09 2004 at 7:40 PM Rating: Decent
I heard it suggested that Swirling Shadows was really easy to get in the zone where this MOB resides. Is this the only MOB that drops it? Pretty deadly compared to a Lesser Shade in Shadeweavers' Thicket... :-(
Charming
# Jul 20 2003 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
These are the most fun mob I've ever charmed. I've been charming the skellies in ME and doing ok, but not so hot. These are MUCH better, though I still need to get the technique down. Here's some of what I've learned:

1. Make sure you have a cleric. Easiest way is to watch it for a bit. It will yaulp itself frequently when not in a fight.

2. Keep your health up, CH is cool an all, but it kills its DPS to have to pause 10 seconds to cast it on you.

3. Keep it buffed with your pet buff.

4. Pull with slow, then root and then snare (use low level undead root and low dooming so it costs you very littl mana).

5. When charm breaks, run away. Mob will fall behind fast due to snare, and pet will keep up for a bit, but pause to cast on you. Stop and mezz former pet. Then charm. Root incoming mob if it gets too close. When Mez breaks, send in pet againg.

6. Don't bother with root on target mob excpet on inc. Pet will nuke root away 3-4 times per fight.

7. If things go poorly, don't sweat losing the pet, just FD. I've died many times because I knew it was risky, but did not want to lose a well buffed pet.

Good luck!
Cleric solo?
# Jun 25 2003 at 6:39 PM Rating: Decent
Think a 58 cleric with moderate gear could solo these with root/rot and undead nuking? KEI too, probably. Never spent much time in the zone, so I have no clue.

RE: Cleric solo?
# Apr 02 2004 at 5:22 PM Rating: Decent
you prolly could as long as you dont let them get in range to hit you and as long as you used stun spells as well. If its a SK mob and it gets in range of you it will HT you. The Cleric ones will also nuke you from afar if they can so you would have to be careful.
RE: Cleric solo?
# Jul 30 2004 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
well I've killed quite a few of them now, with no luck getting the earring. But it is possible. I was kei'd and virtued and tanked them np, just have to back off when heals are necessary, because they interrupt alot.
Still only 59th level lol
Girls
# Mar 19 2003 at 5:17 AM Rating: Default
The Xi Vius and Xi Xaui are all female if you do the % command that reports a gender specific Con, eg. Fred speaks with <her>
RE: Girls
# Jul 03 2003 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
That explains why they always glide past me and attack my pretty DE female. They jealous of her beauty. :-P

BTW - I hate ME . Loot is no good and exp is low.

do they summon?
# Dec 25 2002 at 8:14 AM Rating: Default
do they summon? are they soloable by high level druids?
RE: do they summon?
# Mar 05 2003 at 12:56 AM Rating: Decent
Oh my god yes. At 55 it was pathetic. Supposedly they cast, never have on me. They go down quicker than goranga gatherers. Never had one resist a spell or break early. Sometimes they have pets, just dismiss them. Don't worry about pulling aggro from killing their pets. They'll come at you, but they're more concerned about looking cool than actually getting you, so they fly all slow and pimp. Light em up at this point.
On the Elusive Earring.
# Oct 17 2002 at 6:24 PM Rating: Good
I think that The Ethereal Earring has been removed from the Xi Vius/Xi Xaui Loot Table, and has been replace with a Less Powerfull, but still very nice Earring named nearly the same, saw a link from a person who picked it up, with these stats as I remember them. AC 10, +7 Int/Wis, +50 Mana/HP and + 5 Save to Fire, Cold and Magic.
So to sum up what I mean. The lesser Earring is a Uber Rare Drop off the 50-something Mobs in ME, and I think off all the Mobs not just the Xi's, and The Big One that now only drops of the Named Xi (Shadow Lord or Whatever) or have been completely removed from the Loot list.
Flame all you want, but the thing just doen't drop off the Normal Mobs any more. Spend 10 days in ME and see if anyone, ever reports an Ethereal Earring.

undead?

Are these undead or no? IE will necro undead charm/slow/fear/DD spells work on them?

They are undead.
RE: undead?
# Oct 07 2002 at 7:30 AM Rating: Good
Thanks very much, didn't want to try to charm em and get owned, heh. They are charmable btw, but the reanimated drudges are waaaay better as charmed mobs, some of them though go above the lvl limit for Thrall of Bones, but they can own just about everything else in the zone, I would take one of them, and own about 3 of the goranga's w/ just a little help from myself (58 necro). Make sure to root the mob the charmed drudge is attacking tho, that way if charm wears off you'll have only one mob to deal w/ instead of two (simply screaming terror the drudge and then recharm).
RE: undead?
# Dec 18 2002 at 7:56 AM Rating: Decent
Xi Xaui clerics own when charmed, they'll complete heal you, so basically, all you do is charm them buff them up put lich on, and wait while they're fighting, just do a low-lvl tap on the mob so the pet doesn't hug all the xp
RE: undead?
# Jun 24 2003 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
I was just playing around in ME waiting on kids for UP, and I charmed on of these and was killing some goranga, well charm broke and I was sitting near zone line and kept getting damn cannot see target, and before I knew it ******* had charmed my *** :P luckily i just zoned out, but scared hell outta me
Rarity?
# Sep 28 2002 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
Hello all, Does anyone out there know abouts how many of these Xi Vius creatures one would have to kill before you might see one of those earrings? I mean I know its rare but I killed about 10 yesterday and nothing. I mean not even one rare item at all LOL. I was just curious if anyone knows just how SUPER rare this stuff is.

Ive killed 100+ both in grps and solo and never seen that earring. The other 2 listed drops I see all the time.
not so bad
# Sep 10 2002 at 1:05 PM Rating: Good
These guys arent that bad. 2 people can take them easilly. They are snarable and fearable so fear kiting is a cinch. sk/ran/wiz/druid and a cleric is all it takes. Another method ive tried is rooting them for soloing. Gotta have KEI for the mana regen because they seem to break root often even without being nuked and break root every time they nuked. But if you root them and stay a safe distance away except when nuking they pretty easy especially for cleric. Use your dots, they help alot.

quest items?
# Jul 02 2002 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone know what the following items are for? I wasn't able to find them anywhere on this site.

Shaded Tunic (AC9, all/all - no drop)
Shaded Wristband (AC4, all/all - no drop)
Gem of the Void (class=none, race=none)

I'm guessing these are quest items.

Shaded stuff is for tailoring.

Gem of the Void is for beastlord epic.

Why Argue, Its pointless..
# May 25 2002 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
To say this earring belongs to any one class is wrong. If you read the previous post anyone can see, its a earring that anyone in this entire game can bennifit from. If you cant, well you are to uber to bother reading the post. I honestly would be supprised if in a group, that ANYONE would pass in the roll for an item like this.. No matter who you are. If this item drops in a group that I am in, only reason I can think someone would pass on the roll here, is if they already have one. Did I mention, ALL/ALL.. Goodday to you all.

I was runnning with a group to akheva the other day and our cleric got hit at the zone line by one of these and died. It wouldnt leave the zone line. Myself (52 pally) and a 55 pally friend ended up fighting this so we could do the rez on the cleric. Hardest hit i got was in the 130-150 range with a 960ac. It was stunnable and didnt resist any stuns. It tried to ch once but was stunned. went down pretty easy with chain stuns did take a full bar of mana worth of stuns though, cycling through 3 stuns. I have heard horror stories about these but it seems the key is stun stun stun. well just my 2 cp.

Ew I am PvP I am superior...oh shut your mouth! You wanna go one on one I will show you what a real PK is. I play on a bluebie server and I duel and I kill other players. WHOOPIE!!! Who cares if you can just run up and attack other people for the heck of it on PvP!! Some of us like to not have to worry about BS like that so put a sock in it. Sick of this arrogant PvP attitude..oh and bring your resist gear if you want it doesn't matter. Either way you'll die.

/em listens to the pathetic response that is impending and rolls his eyes at the nonsense.

I would see you point...except you are bragging about dueling people. There is accuall skill invonved in trying to level while other people can attack you, and train you even (SZ). If you wanna be a bluebie then be a bluebie but at least have a little bit of respect.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 17 2002 at 2:15 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These guys now see invis and they aggro which makes traveling and CR within the zone extremely dangerous. Prior to the patch people used to wander and run through the middle of the zone with ease, to do so now is a death wish.
This things a pushover!
# Mar 31 2002 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
These things are fairly easy to kill...OMG it was fun too. They hit for only 210 max and cast a 410-540 AE/DD, the only thing that pissed us off (group of 55+) he CHed 2 times before we dropped him, at one time, with a little crowd control (mezz, etc.), we took 2 and they con blue to me, and No these are not the named ones. Dropped the Etheral Earring (20 ac 8 int/wis 50 mana 5 to all resists) 3 times in 4 hrs. ;) A little clarification for the mass. ;) MY 200kpp!

before you start saying how uber you are get your info strait.. no AE's.. very few CH (the xi xaui are mainly clerics while the xi vius are mainly SKs) hit for roughly 160ish not 210. think before you boast..
also xi vius drop the shrouded medallion somewhat common while the xi xaui drop the medallion of life. never seen the earing personally.

imo RZ is far from the best server.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 02 2002 at 8:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Its funny how you have Rallos Zek as being the best server considering Comet Nosce is nothing but a blubie server guild. You have loads of nicely geared people, but you have zero pk skills.

Level Range Wrong
# Jan 28 2002 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent
The level range on this mob is incorrect, as I was in the Dome in Maiden's Eye today and every time I pulled these jokers, they conned yellow to me (and I am lvl 54).
