shared spawn
# Mar 28 2008 at 10:32 AM Rating: Default
i believe these and the stoengrabbers share spawn points. if you kill a greyhopper. on the next spawn theres a chance it will pop either another hopper or a stone grabber, hence if you kill nothing but hoppers eventually none will spawn anymore and youll be inundated with stonegrabbers.

if you are farming these i suggest alternate between killing the hoppers and killing the stone grabbers.

Not worth it
# Jun 01 2004 at 2:19 AM Rating: Decent
after scouting the entire zone with my 50 necro.. I rarely see that many greyhoppers. Such a huge zone for as little as there are of these mobs.

Seems like such a waste to spend most your time in transit to only find 1 or 2 every few mins.. at best.

So much for that. If you really have the patience... I suggest searching near the Recuso camp in the southwest. I had more success there. Not much more though.

Does anyone know what the PHs are for these?

I'm farming for tailoring and once they're gone...well, it takes forever for them to respawn..anyone know what the placeholders are?

I believe the placeholders for the Greyhoppers are the Rhino Beetles. At the very least, they seem to share the same paths. FYI, near the zone entrance from Netherbian Lair seems to be a good spot - they path right across the front.

i killed 8 today to see the rate and if it worth for tailoring, it does, got 4 hides, 3 lq hides, and 1 egg. It was pretty easy with my 37 wizard, didnt even had to root, just had to cast 2 318dd spell and another 80dd to kill the hardest ones. all green to me, and the others around didnt attack me, the only one who attacked me looks like a nasty pig, he was green too. With kei i killed 5 to 6 and still had 12m.

Was soloing rockhoppers here with my 20 druid and found that the min level on these is 20, as I tried to stick to white and yellow cons while farming for the hides to work on tailoring for my main.

I confirm the drop of low quality rockhopper hides and greyhopper hides yesterday. Is there something to do with LQ rockhopper hides?

LQ Rockhopper hides can be combined with shade silk thread to make leather padding. Leather padding is used in smithing recipes for various things. Most commonly it is used to made Fine Steel Plate.

You don't need shade silk thread: ordinary silk thread from spiderlings works with LQ rockhopper hides... or, at least, it does for me.

Just came back from hunting they guys. Low quality seemed to drop about 3 for 2 to the Greyhopper hides. Greyhopper blood also dropped and even on greyhopper egg. The last two are no drop items. One in 20 had a page on them as well. Took about an hour to get stack of Greyhopper Hides with my 40 warrior killing non-stop (was buffed to hilt by 45 shammy)

Found out the lack of greyhopper drops today... as did many others it seems. One question though, did everybody at least file a /bugreport? Maybe a little uproar from the players helps to get them back :)

Is this still bugged
# Jun 17 2002 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
I am working on tailoring skill and was thinking of trying an alternative to hunting Spider Silks. East Karana is pretty good for spider silks, but monotonous at times and competition at peak times can get frustrating.
Do the Greyhopper hides drop and as frequent as the spider silks in East Karana?

Bit late now, but I found the fastest way to get tailoring up to 95 or so was to farm hopper hides and make hopper hide boots (one hide + boot pattern, AFAIR). These guys drop hopper hides about 50% of the time and usually LQ hopper hides the rest of the time, for leather padding. Took a couple of hours of farming to loot enough hides to get my tailoring from the max for picnic baskets up to the max for hopper hide boots, and I made some decent money selling the padding.
Bug?
# Jun 17 2002 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
Well the Greyhoppers doesnt drop anything anymore =P It could be a bug, or maybe Verant desided that the hides were too good? =P I dunno. Seems like a bug to me. I used to get alot of hides here. Now no more drops =/ Not even the rockhopper blood =D
Where are the hides?

Ok, I'm wondering if this is a fluke or not. I'm farming these to get the hides for tailoring. I've never hunted them before. I killed about 50 and nothing absolutly nothing has dropped. It's quite depressing....AHHH!
I'm hoping the hides are supposed to drop more often. Because at this rate i'll be getting about 0 hides =/.

I am finding about 45% lq hopper hides, 45% greyhopper hides, and 10% other stuff like blood and hopper eggs on these. I dont think they really have 700-800 hp but they do seem to have a decent regen rate. they arent agro but zelniaks and lightcrawlers are, zelniaks have a very large agro range as well.

Hide drop rate?
# Apr 07 2002 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
I was wondering if anyone know what the drop rate for the hides on these guys are? I'm trying to up my tailoring and it seems like this is the way to go (just need a hide and a pattern, nothing else), and I was just wondering if it was worthwhile to farm them for the hides or if they are rare drops.

From what little hunting I've done of them, it seemed as if low quality hopperhides dropped 50% of the time, Greyhopper hides 25% of the time, and blood and stuff the other 25%. I never saw multiple hide drops, nor hides dropping with anything else. But then I also didn't kill enough to say for certainty.

Eggs are for one of the Vah Shir class quests, you make spiced eggs fpr a guard in Hollowshade and he give something back, then farts and makes his captain gripe about you zone-wide. The blood is for the Vah Shir progressive pottery quests, pretty much all hoppers drop it now.

These creatures come in lower level varieties.. they con even and blue to 23 with very few above. Stonegrabbers are by far higher level than rockhoppers on average. Both however are great EXP.. and adds are not very likely as there is not much population of agro monsters.. Ohh btw .. the Zelniaks do have a nice football sized agro area... but the lightcrawlers have a small one.

I've been hunting with group, in manus seru for two lvl's and the hoppers started out white to red and are now blue to red to me, have about 800hp or so.
Let see, two stinging swarms, 250hp dot or so, three careless lighting 97 dd and one dizzying wind 114 dd, then about six flame licks to keep down hp between dd hits. and still they don't die for me, of coures they resist root quite well, but hardly ever break it. avg 3 casts for me b4 it sticks. snare all most allways sticks on them even the red one to me. 1 in 5 resists, I can't hit them fast enough to kill them melee style. even with me hitting for 17's still go about eight swings b4 i hit them, or five or six 5/6 point hits in a row then, 10 swings w/o a hit, thats with a flame lick up too, they regen at about 20 hp a tick. when fighting, and 40 when resting.

My hp assment may be off due there regen rate.

Your estimate is a little high. I can take these guys out with 4 Combusts. At 182 hp a hit that maxes them out at 728 hps. But they, like everything in this zone, have an ungodly regeneration rate.

It may be the way you wrote it all but I would suggest you find another Druid who is soloing and watch their cast patterns. when and what. Although, It is good to see a Druid who is not afraid of toe to toe, cast patterns can be the diferance between life and death at 40+. Same goes for the Defence score of a soloer. Keep it up and don't give up.

They sometimes hit for 40s ( max 46 that i saw). Mostly high blues, a few white and some low blues. With my level 23 troll warrior ( ac 540 or so with 890hp) soloed them all night... really easy. Killed a white one and it took a bub and an half of health.
