Last night I took my 42 Necro over to the hard side of Echoe for a look-see. The Stonegrabbers there are conning from Dark Blue to White to him. The problem is with their resists.
Every time with out fail, these guys resisted 99% of my necro's spells.
Asystol: resisted Venom of the Snake: resisted Chilling Embrace: resisted Scourge: resisted Boil Blood: resisted Disease Cloud: resisted Dooming Darkness: resisted They even resisted my Resist Debuffer!
The only ones I tried that weren't resisted were the duration tap: Vampiric Embrace, and the DD tap: Spirit Tap, and Root.
A 42 Necro and I ended up blowing my mana pool by having to Tap them to death!
Very humbling and frustrating for a "Master of the DOTs"!
At lvl51 the stonegrabbers in Mons Letalis resist dooming darkness about 1/4th the time, almost always resist insidious retrogression. Resist fear seldom but it does happen occasionally.
Just so you know...my friend has a level 52 druid and still gets dark blue stonegrabbers. She's leveled from 47-52, just on the stonegrabbers...don't count them out. They are getting fewer and far between, but they are there. Just gotta know where to look for them
Hello all I was in Mons Letalis Farming these for the fist of rock for my monk with my 48 dru easy to root rot, pain in the butt to quad to many adds in zone. Now in this zone the rockhoppers are indiff to me but if you pull one of these guys (stonegraber) next to a rockhopper the rockhopper WILL agro (like famliy agro) but i didn't have any problem with the bugs except the little ones but there just a little pain more of a nusence (sorry spelling).
Fist Of Rock https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7432 And Drops from A Stonegrabber in Mons Letalis Only. And It's Not A Common Drop Either Killed like 35 before i got my 1st one then 50 plus before i got the second one. Both Are Now on my Bst.
As a level 49 BST I have soloed about 20 of these. They are an easy kill with the new pet no matter what equipment you have; just let your pet tank and keep him healed. Having C3 I was able to fight without taking breaks at all. I am not sure how often they drop the Fist of Rock, but I am going to keep fighting them until they drop at least one. BTW my strategy is that I pull them to a wall in the E/SE part of the zone where only the non-agro warriors wander and kill them there. Good experience, easy kill.
Just so everyone knows, I tried using the spell Ward Summoned on these yesterday after reading here that spells and weapons that work on summoned creatures will affect these and I got a message in red saying "This spell only works on summoned creatures." meaning that they may have started out as summoned, but are no longer. I guess they figured out that casters have a big advantage being able to root and ward summoned without taking a single hit. I expected them to have high fire resist since they are made of stone, but my ignite hit for max damage many times so I guess they aren't like many other mobs in the game that are made of stone that only take 1 damage when hit with a fire based spell.

If you were me and I were you, would we still be friends?
Must have been a temporary bug for you man. I just spent 4 hours or more over the last 2 nights casting Exile Summoned on them with abandon in Dawnshroud. I have also spent plenty of time killing in Mons Letalis where they are also just as susceptible, as well as every one I cast on in Marus Seru when I was younger.
Interesting... next time I go killing the ones in DSP I'll get my mage to summon a couple of swords for my pet. A quadding pet with two swords that proc Ward Summoned should do a good job on these guys :).
So, I did that two or three months back with my Mage, and the swords were proccing. However, yesterday the Mage hit 50 killing the Stonegrabbers, and the swords weren't proccing and I couldn't cast my anti-summoned nuke on the one I tried to nuke.
So I presume they've stopped being summoned again, or perhaps only some of them were counted as summoned before?
Not sure if anyone knew it, but i went into Mons Letalis with a 56 mage, warrior and cleric, and myself at the time was a 47 druid. We was camping these so i could get a Fist of Rock. After awhile of OOMs and medding, i started looking at text. Well, i mem'ed banish Summoned. Told the mage to have any anti-summoned spells. I dont know if its bug or not. But these guys are summoned. Needless to say, after my little discovery to the group, mage gave summoned a pet gave him 2 swords procking an anti-summoned spell and one for the warrior, and myself with Banish. We owned them. Though i never did get my Fist of Rock ohwell. These guys are weak.

My first impression of these guys was that they were summoned ("whatever force that animated it is now gone"), so I tried Dismiss and Expulse summoned against it. I got a message that the spell did not effect this creature type.
I've found that they are fairly resistant to magic-based spells, but fire line seems to work well.
I've spent about 2 weeks in MS with my 34 Dark Elf Mage still getting lots of xp (started at 32)killing the Stonegrabbers. The Stonegrabbers still con dark blue to me. Not much loot to speak of and have not seen this weapon drop for me. Killed dozens of them so far. May head to Dawnshroud Peaks next.
You do not need to be 45 to get the items to drop. There is not one item in everquest you cannnot loot at level one ( planes are obiviously an exception, as you cant zone in till 46.) His drop rates have nothing to do with his level; they have to do with where he is killing. The fist of rock ***ONLY*** drops in Mons Letalis, killing grabbers anywhere else is merely an exercise in futility.
I agree you must remember there is a diffrace between Mons Letalis and Marus Seru ML being the high lev zone with rockhoppers and stonegrabers and MS a lower lev zone with lower lev stongrabers and greyhoppers fists will never drop here
dumb question. do servers have diff lvls for mobs? i see alot of high lvls kill these stonegrabber yet i solo them just fine as 42 monk. non twinked just a set of spore and a cane of harmony.
#Anonymous,
Posted:Jun 21 2002 at 4:26 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) HI, I'm lvl 35 Iksar Monk on sexgony. i have always worked on 1hb but i realized at lvl 60, ur fists are 9/16 which are PIMP. now, im not a fan of my fists cuz my fists suck right now but this is a hella god 2h2 item so i gotta spend some time killin stonegrabbas =)
that fist would be a nice weapon for my monk to raise his h2h with..i really screwd him up when i started him i started my monk with 2 CoT and never practiced 2hb and now im lvl 43 with i think around 270 in the 1hb skill and only like a 54 in my h2h skill GOD IM STUPID...:)
You need to get a fast H2H weapons and group with an enchanter as much as possible. BEG PLEAD do favors but get maximum haste possible all the time and your skill should go up fairly quickly. Realistically you have around 10 levels to get it maxed and it shouldn't take near that long. Don't neglect 2HB either. At higher levels it's a nice way to reduce aggro on you from a mob and there are some very nice 2HB weapons out there for monks.
The only ones that drop Fist of Rock are the letalis ones... On another note, I ID kited these with great ease. In the (?)Southeast corner. You can pull them back to the corner, ID them, and then chase them to the ridge... stop, run back to your spot. Rinse repeat. you have to find the right spot for pathing thou. No adds, and only 1 FD out of kiting about 150 of these. Got 2 fist drops, some random gems and spell components.
Level and class of "I" would be nice. All you said was "I kited these with great ease". You did say "1 FD out of kiting about 150". I am guessing you are a monk but could be a SK or Necro. For example, if you are a 65th level SK then I would assume you had no problem taking these out.
Congrats on the ease of kill. However, with all the holes of information you give, all I can use is the "(?) Southeast corner" and "the letalis ones" information.
With a few more words your post could rock.
Thanks for the location info. That part will be very useful.
just need to know if these are confirmed to drop here....i can solo these very easily....but the ones in mons letalis hit a little too hard and i dont have enough hp/ac.
Laleydar D'Aarth 55th monk of TT Loyal and Confident member of FoF
hello, does anyone has any idea how to make the stonegrabber of growth spawn, been here for 4 days and nothin,i had kill more than 100 stonegrabbers and no fist, please give any info if u guys know how to make him spawn, thanks
Hunting the Stonegrabbers in Mons Letalis revealed that they are vulnerable to anti-summoned creature spells, if slightly resistant. I was able to land Banish Summoned on them, though I had a number of partial resists and a few complete resists.
I attemtped the same tactic against a Crumbling Stonegrabber and a regular stonegrabber in Dawnshroud and got the message about the spell only working on summoned creatures.
"I attemtped the same tactic against a Crumbling Stonegrabber and a regular stonegrabber in Dawnshroud and got the message about the spell only working on summoned creatures."
Not surprising since Luclin is full of strange inconsistencies like that. I think it all boils down to Luclin being rushed and there being a lack of communication between the various designers due to a lack of time.
The rockhoppers here which are normally indiffrent ARE social with the stonegrabbers and will attack if your engaged in battle and one happens by...just bring a druid with ya and have them charm animal, the hoppers help make killing grabbers alot easier when you have a pet that hits fast and hard.
That post is much better. You used information you knew and posted it for all to see. I admit my post was really stupid and i apologize for it. I was harsh when i should have asked for your wisdom on the matter instead of bash you.
bah only reason im anon is cuz im too lazy to register for a forum i never use. and i know their power varies from zone to zone. i have fought all of the ones listed and the hardest are the ones in mon leath or whatever its called. they are the same con but hit alot harder and have around 4khp. they hit max 125 from what i saw, and i wasnt flaming. im just saying that theres no way that they have 10 or 20k hp. but thanks for calling me a ******* cuz im anon. hmmm dunno what being anon has to do with having a father. im not bashing the other guys post. he just made a large error in calculation
First let me say that the other person posts as much information as he knows about it. You on the other hand just say he is wrong. They do spawn in other zones and like it said on the above description there power and level vary greatly. The person also lets you know his name on the server he plays on so if you wanted to you could talk to him. You on the other hand have absolutely no usefull information you anonymous *******. If they dont have 4k hp according to you then you could have at least said how much hp they do have. All in all though you suck.
