This is a new drop I found today off of the shissars in the Grey. The item has a tradeskills tag and is not on eqtraders at this point. It sells for 1sp to vendors.

Am here trying to get the EB necklace for one of my toons, and have done it numerous times before. I am finding the Shissar Stalkers rarer than hen's teeth (that's pretty rare), when they used to be all over the place. I used to be able to quad them easily, now I never see 4 up at a time in the whole zone, much less close enough to make quadding them worthwhile. Thanks once again EQ.
Also, just found out the hard way that the stupid little boulderlings summon. Never had that happen before and been jumped by many of them. These were only 3 strong, and almost had me. I've survived being jumped by up to 5 at a time while killing various other mobs, and never had a problem evading them...
Oh well. Might as well complain about Income Tax or City Hall politics.
THere was no nerf, maybe someone else was there killing them?
Anyways these things are all over the place. They drop the scales for the crafters and the no-drop organs for the enduring breath item in Katta. Although the organs and scales are both pretty rare.
For all those who can get the EB necklace in Katta (from Drenic), by all means do so. Even if you can cast EB.
EB when worn has obvious appeal for most of us, but classes who can cast EB, or those who have a "clicky" EB item may think they have no uses for an EB when worn thingy. There are many times when I have seen folks die from such thinking, but here are my top two favourite examples:
(1) Phinny in Kedge dispells your buffs, and you can not re-buff in time. A CR from Kedge is no fun at all, and dying because you relied on buffs to breathe there will just make you feel worse about it. 'Nuff said.
(2) You are soloing in a place like the Grey (this has happened to one of my necro alts), and you go LD... and then get a 1018 for 20 minutes whilst frantically trying to log back in. Well, this happened to me twice, and both times my DMF seems to have run out whilst my toon stupidly sat there medding away and LD. And of course, she died. Granted that rarely happens, but I have never been without EB when worn items since.
In fact, I have various extras in the bank (in shared bank slot) for CR's... turtlebone (or whatever it is) ring for one, and a fishbone earring as well.
Having EB when worn gear is also simply meaning that you have one less thing to worry about when you are bopping about in airless zones. Collecting snake guts from these guys (or Torkazh in Echo) can get you a pretty decent (and free) EB necklace that is definitely a must have item in my opinion. As for Katta faction issues and "evil" races... you might seek the aid of an enchanter <<wink>>
Thinking of sending in my druid to have a crack at these for the EB item quest - yes, yes I can cast EB but as noted elsewhere would be nice to not have to worry about it, what with Kedge Keep coming up for Druid Epic item . . .
Anyway the two questions my little wood elf druid always wants to know are:
1) Is it Druid Rootable? and
2) Do the buggers summon (I hate summoners the most!)
Thanks for any insights and sorry if I missed it in posts below!
With the number of hidden and wandering mobs in The Grey, i'd like to know how you did manage to quad these. I'm finding it slightly hard to believe, unless you had help.
it's doable... start quadding with skellies on the zoneline to get a feel for the zone
it gets more difficult at the temple obviously but there's a fair margin of clear space around the temple itself... you pull 4 shissars and then you just run halfway around the temple quadding, then you turn around, run through em (yea you take a couple smacks, suck it up) and quad back... should be darn near to dead by then
I did this at 58 though, when I had fist of karana, for the shissar organs, not exp...
also if you're feeling adventurous, charm a Xatra Sha and have it smack the mobs around as you kite them... adds a nice damage output, even tho he tends to stun and make mobs drop out of the quad... whatever you like!
For the Necromancers out there, these guys are a piece of cake. These guys have a fairly nice aggro radius, so make sure there aren't any others near. Be thorough too, I don't know how many times I've tried to pull one and then 2 were behind a rock nearby. Pull to wall with dooming darkness, send in rogue pet, then fear. Hit them with a banish undead if you want, or if you think they're heading out too far into bad territory. Pretty easy guys, but like all mobs in this zone just watch very closely for adds and traps.
As a 54 paladin i can solo these guys, just pull to mons letalis zone and fear them, they hit very hard so gotta keep them feared and gotta watch out for adds, high level stonegrabber things pop if ur not careful and the golems will assist them, they seem to have high ac as i cant hit them very hard but not so many hp, not worth the effort imo as they slow to die and way too dangerous
Does anyone know if DMF can be cast here? I would think the duration of the EB effect would far outlast a druid cast EB and the levi would help avoid those ground traps.
Planning a trip there and this info would be very helpful.
Phrodoe Drogoson Halfling Druid of 51 Seasons Tunare
I just used my 55 druid to solo these used 3 Winged Death's 53rd spell and 2 elder spirits vambraces on these to kill them, this usually brought me down to around 3 bubs of mana left.
The usual drop is nothing, but sometimes you'll get a scale, in the 6 hours I was out there I only got 1 organ so I take it this is an uncomon drop or so.
You also have to watch where you walk there are hidden traps that you'll spring and get one of them bolder guys, that casts a necro dot or something because it took off SoW. I didn't have time to see the DoT because the rock and the snake beat me down quickly.
This mob is also for a quest called "Undead Snake Organs Quest". It is to get an EB necklace called Amulet of the Grey Wastes. The Quest starts in Katta Castellum with Denric Garrison. Only about 1 in 5 to 10 will have snake organs on them.
The problem I see with this is that the necklace is a NO DROP item, that you need to spend much time in a waste land that has no air. If you can spend all that time in a place with no air, you wouldn't need the EB necklace anyhow. Oh well.... The stats are OK with +10 STA, +4 MR, +4 CR.
Just for infomation you do not have to go to the grey to get the organs The Taskmaster in Echo caverns drops them too and is of a lvl such that you would be able to camp him untill light blue then move to the Grey. Who said Sony don't think about these things 8o)
i enjoyed lvl 49 -51 beating on his scaley *** with no deaths and no real problems had to use LoH maybe three times and run too zone once when a skele poped as i pulled

Your mind is like a parachute, it only works if it's open.
Well, you see......Verant has a sick sense of humor. They love making you waste your time thinking if you play more, you pay more. Interesting logic that.
ya know... duh... sometimes there is a legit reason behind things. Perfect example- I have Ornately Runed Shell Necklace, the one thats supposedly pretty rare drop in SG. no stats effect Enduring Breath (worn) this is perm EB as long as it is being worn. I solo 98% of the time I am playing... and as most of you know im sure 99% of the items out there that have EB as an effect are LORE. but wait, why would u want 2 eb items. are u crazy??? LOL go to the grey or kedge solo, die, then not have another EB item in bank and have fun on yer CR. nuff said.
Then again, having a necklace that gives you permenant EB WOULD be better than having to cast it all the time. Perhaps I shouldn't be so cynical......naaaaaah.

Was in the grey last night hunting snakes for the organs with some guildies. Me (a 51 wiz), a 52 Pally, and a 52 Monk was in the group. Monk pulled of course and the Pally feared it. Once fear took I cast Bonds of Force on it, our wizzie version of snare. Sometimes BoF took first hit other times took up to 3 before it took. Same thing with the Pally's fear. I haven't tried casting Nullify Magic on them yet, but will give it a shot on our next trip there. As far as nukes go Ice Comet go partial resisted about half the time. However, their MR must be low cause Rend hit for full every time, 784 dmg at lvl 51. For some reason I forgot to try Draught of Fire on them--doh! But will later.
these guys are very resistant to draugh of fire, lure of frost seems to hit 100% on them all the time, Tear of druzzel hits about 60% of the time on each check. More hps than I can solo (53 wiz) but can be done with 2 people or solo if you are an uber necro.
do you think a 54 cleric and a 50 monk could solo these? or should we bring a druid and a tank along to sow and take the beating? I just want to get the organs for the quest, and I've never been to the zone so I dont know what its like.

Posted:Feb 06 2002 at 3:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you would invite the wizards and druids into your groups, perhaps we wouldn't be so hot to risk quading. Perhaps you could take your lovely exp group somewhere that noone can quad..ie temple or griegs end...perhaps ME, Umbra, Akheva, Fungus grove...sheesh. there aren't many groups for wizards and not many places where quading is viable. Try not to f up others game by playing in the only zones where someone can get exp when no groups will take them because of their class.

Posted:Jan 31 2002 at 1:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Haven't been to Grey yet but if I zone into Grey only to be met by 4 damaged mobs that druid best log... I MIGHT find it in my heart to train into Grey and gate.
was soloin these things and got hmmm think its called polished snake scale or shissar scale somthin of that accord. btw these are easily soloed and have seen wizzies/druids easily quad them they fairly easy
Quadding: Very hard to find 4 together to quad. They wander around.
See invis: No idea about IVU, but I conned these, and some could see through invis, and some could not. They are not casters, but do wander by the Temple. Perhaps the Reverents cast on them.
When pulling, watch out for those Shimmering Rockfiends. They have huge aggros, and if you train to zone, they will camp zone line for hours.
