He doesn't appear to spawn in picks on TLPs. So if you zone in and he's not up, make sure you're in the main pick. It's fairly unlikely anyone is bored/crazy enough to kill him.
Not sure what triggers him to despawn, but multiple people on the TLP server Ragefire have gone to turn in an ST key only to find his pedestal empty. No idea on respawn either.

Another way for small races to get up onto the platform is to cast jester hang out for a few minutes. Wait til he grows you and hop up did this with a halfling warrior on 05/15/06.
there is a small triangle shaped vent in the cieling you can shimmy into. Was hard to find, but once you know where it is, it can be used.

Behind JD's room there is a pile of rocks. Normally you cannot simply climb up through the rocks because there is a zone wall, but at the very back you can sneak between them and up a hole to come out on top. Fanagle your way up to the highest rock so you're looking at a large pill shaped one and on level with the top of JD's building. Use a lev ring, cast it on yourself, or have a bard use his song (that's what I did and it worked) and lev across. Next to those pillars sticking out of his building are triangular shaped holes that allow you to drop into his room. Do this, lev over to him (or climb the steps), do the turn-in, and get your key.

OK, so I've been sitting on this guys spawn pt for 3 days now since the server (Tunare) crashed/came back up and still he has not popped. Anyone know what the deal is with this mob? I thought he was always up?
I've tried logging in with my druid and standing next to the door to try to track him to see if he was under the world etc but he does not show up on the track list either.
Has he been removed from the game? Is he up on any other servers? Anyone know?
I have my shard from King Tormax and would like to turn it in for my key... the posts here are a bit confusing on this. First, I have to find my way to this guy, but then is he going to kill me on sight? It seems from the posts that you have to be in frog illusion, but only once you are around the corner from his lair? Can someone please clear up the illusion thing for me and maybe an idea of where he is in the zone? Thanks!

Getting to where Jaled Dar`s Shade is not hard if you can get to Western Wastes. Once in Dragon Necropolis, invis up and head east (avoiding bones) towards the big door. Go through the big door and I guess you can call the area past it right at the turn a safe spot (just watch for trains). When you come around the turn, you will see a large building at the end of the walkway - that is where Jaled Dar`s Shade resides (loc is around 1600, -20 on the main level you zone in on).
With max ally CoV faction, and very low RoS faction (which I don't think matters one bit) Jaled Dar`s Shade conned indifferent to me without any illusions or faction modifiers. So as was said before, he's a quest mob.
Now as a shorter race (dark elf), I was not able to climb the levels around Jaled Dar`s Shade to get close enough to hand in. I levitated and invised at this safe spot then ran through the door when my rogue accomplice opened them. I was able to get up the first level no problem, however I could not get high enough to climb/levitate up the second. I was still too far away to trade with Jaled Dar`s Shade, so standing right in the middle of the platform facing him I turned auto-run on and looked up at a high angle and just kept trying to hand the key in. Eventually I bounced up close enough to him and completed the key quest.
Once I received the key, I had it soulbound by invising up and zoning into Sleepers Tomb. Invising was a good idea because there must have been a dozen gargoyles circled around the portal. I clicked out pretty quickly lol.
Reading through the posts it's not totally clear. Do I understand correctly that everyone is KoS to him by default? In which case how do non-illusion classes do the hand in for the key if he kills any illusion that isn't inanimate.
The DX9 patch messed up jumping. Short races can't jump as high as they could before. I went to turn in my talisman the other day but Jaled Dar`s Shade wasn't up. Thing is, I couldn't jump up the steps to get to the top anyways. Does anyone know if you can hand it to him from the floor or do I need to wait for a patch to fix jumping height for small races / shrunk characters?
Spell-Immune Quad 711. Rampages roughly every round AEs a 3 tick silence - easily resisted AEs dragon roar - easily resisted DTs every 30-45 seconds Cleric mob so likes to nuke/blow mana making him a little easier.
In terms of difficulty you basically got a spell-immune Arch Lich who Death Touches.
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but he will assist the rats I think. I was checking zland when a trap cast a spell on me and dropped sneak/hide... I managed to run pretty far with a bunch of rats and a serpent or two on me, I was about to round the corner to leave Jaled Dar's area when he DT'd me. So I'm assuming he will assist the rats.
I'm not sure if he assists spiders... but to be safe I'm never going near his room with monsters on me ever again :)
I think your right about that. Did the same thing. Sprung a trap and started running towards the zone line with rats in tow. When I rounded the corner at that building --BAM!!-- 20k in damage. Wasn't a happy camper right at that moment.
Has any guild ever killed him multiple times to see if they could get Non-kos to trak, maybe even up to ally with him? I ask since Trak has a pretty big part in lore, there might, probably not, but might be Quest or information from him that no one ever got before. Just a thought.
The real problem with raising Trakanon faction is that there is no way to tell if you can unless someone were to do it. Even if people did it, there is almost no chance at any quests from Trakanon.
Most factions in the game, specially the ones in the old world and Kunark, are capped depending on a few modifiers.
Race is the big one. As a Dark Elf that is agnostic, I can only get as high as dubious in Fironia Vie, no matter how many goblins I kill.
Religion is another big one. I'm almost certain that an Innoruuk worshipper will always be KoS in Fironia Vie, but again, race matters. A human that worships Inny might be able to get to threatening, or perhaps dubious, but I doubt it.
Another thing to look at is the Goblins of Kunark. I've AE grouped in Chardok for months, and my faction with goblins has never gone above KoS even though I was receiving positive faction hits.
I think a persons best chance would being a bard that worships Veeshan. That might actually get them to dubious with Trak, but it's a LONG shot.
Yes, don't forget its very possible that you start at "maxed Trak Anon Faction" and your still KoS, or its also very possible that since he is undead even being maxed faction wont help. Its not worth ruing CoV and RoS for Trak Anon.
According to some of the beta lore. Trak supposedly chose 3 people from norrath. One high elf paladin, one troll shadowknight, and one human wizard as keepers of 3 artifacts that when possessed by a single person they would have something to do with the end of the world. Im doing this from memory so im sorry i cant get more details. But like i said, its all speculation, so feel free to bring any ideas theorys dreams or maniac rants that you want.
Look on the time page under Zebuxoruk and it gives the lore... but basically goes like this - Trakanon chose three mortals to safe guard l33t power; one to represent pure evil, one to represent pure goodness :P, and one to represent the gray nuetrality between the two. From there, those three would choose one to unite the powers. The chosen one was Zebuxoruk, and when you run the Quarm circle in time after Quarm's death he spawns and raves about how he needs to go home to tell everyone what's about to happen aka. the world's death because of the gods fearing human powers, and without humans there was no one left to worship the gods, so they fell from power IE.
