#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 05 2002 at 10:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I've been lied to. All this time the IG campers/dotters have been telling me that I am too low to camp them. Yesterday, I wandered in to on my to way to PF, only to find them uncamped. So I decided to try my luck. They're about as easy to kill as HGs in the plains of Karana. He dropped some decent cash. I think I shall return more often. I don't appreciate being lied to, I suspect it was a greedy tactic to keep the camp for themselves. (A great reason to share this info with everyone :)

To Halas. I port to Odus with a spire from the Nexus, and arrive in Toxx. My lvl 13 might pass through here and go to Erudin docks. There I take a boat accross Erud's Crossing and Arrive in Qeynos. There I go to Qenos hills and enter Blackburrow. Here's the part where I should be told if safe: I go from the Blackburrow/Qeynos Hills exit and go to the BB/Everfrost exit. And Here is the part concerning these guys: Where do they spawn? And the west side of Everfrost: Can My lvl 13 pass through this area? I've never killed a RoS member or a ice goblin or Vox member. PLZ!!! Tell me if it's safe!

IF you are an erudite you have an advantage in Everfrost. Erudites are not KOS to the orcs there, for some reason.

The IGs are in static spawns on the far wall, you will not have to worry about them in the areas you are hunting in.

When I was a young pup of about lvl 7 I started banking for the people who camp these things. (they drop alot of silver and gold as do most giants and it appears when people go to sell other people like to steal the camp site but I digress) I asked someone once what lvl I needed to camp these things as a shammy. They told me... "dont even try it till lvl 49" I wondered why then I started looking at the spell list. Shaman get 2 new dots at lvl 49 that each do a bit more than 1k each. (as aposed to the ones I currently have at 42 which do closer to 400-500 damage each) So, for the eager 45-48 shaman who's just dieing to kill these things, I've gotta say... stop. Find something with less hp till you've got thoes dots.

Second thing... and this is advice to the barbarian smith. They drop essence of winter. (I sent the site a correction so that can be added) Essence is needed for making barbarian cultural armor and the Ice giants are one of only a couple creatures in the game who drop this stuff.

Ice Giants and Goblins in EF lower your faction with Naggy and Vox. I suspect it's simply Varants way of making sure that Barbarians are all KOS by the time they go on a dragon raid *LOL*

I finally killed one solo last night with my 46 ranger. Snare root shoot sit stand shoot sit stand shoot ...... Even medding between shots it takes all my mana to keep up the snares roots and flame licks and buffs Have at least 300 arrows ready. I cant stand toe to toe with them til they are down to 25% or so. They resist maybe 1/3 of root and snare and flame lick. Almost always resist my offhands velium shards proc which is cold based.

They will get to you real quick if snare and root are both off. You dont want to melee these fellows they hit up to like 110 and stun alot. They have pretty high AC but are not agile - dont dodge and riposte too much.

Best bet at 35 is to kite. Best with Snare and sow. Fear it and pound on it while it runs, If you dont have snare then you best have sow and lev cause these boys are nearly fast as sow.

or aggro kite where one guy pulls it along by inducing aggro - dots snares heals and every one else gets in free blows. Remember if you are leader and lose agro - sitting is an instant boost.

I dont see how with a 35 warrior and cleric. So many heals needed the cleric will eventually get a root resist and get squashed. Expect it to take 4-5 mins to kill it all by melee solo. Expect to take about 1.5 - 2K damage per minute if they melee on you.

You will take a beating, but with a cleric by your side to drop heals on you, you should be ok. The zone line is close, so go ahead and try your luck. The worst that could happen is you would have to run when the cleric is down to their last heal.

Just be aware that nukes will NOT stick unless the caster is within melee range. (Saw a wizzy waste a load of mana figuring this out)

absolutely not. that equip really doesn't make too much difference. I have seen a group of mid fourties including a warrior with better equip a cleric, and a druid. that means they had about 10 levels on each of you, and there was one more of them. these are a tough solo even for low 50's characters, and they occasionally die because of decent MR and good speed when not snared. do yourselves a favor and save a corpse run/mana on a res. not trying to be rude or rash, but thats the strait info. just not feasible at your level.

Oh Please.

I am a level 49 Druid and I solo these giants quite well. Snare pretty much ALWAYS hits as does root. Cast Ro's firey sundering and fixation of Ro, then your DOTS..maybe a DD or two. Giant is then history. Ice Giants and definately more difficult than Hill Giants in RM or Sand Giants. Ice Giants have more HP.

They drop decent plat(most of the time) and fine steel weapons that can be sold for about 5pp each. I occasionally leave the camp with about 300pp plus weapons each time I hunt these.

I do agree that it would be difficult for a 34 warrior and a 34 cleric to kill these, these giants hit hard.

For those tha want to carry more loot..

I decided a while ago to make a Shammy alt..While wandering around killin bears and skellies I got a Tell from a Nec at the front of Perma...He had me doing runs to him every 45 min or so.What he did was get me to bring him 8 bags which he left on the ground as his loot filled he would drop the full ones and pick up the empty bags. When He had 16 bags of loot I would run back out to him and take 8 to the Ramp merchants sell go to him take the other 8 sell then accompany him back and drop his bags again...In 4 hours he made nearly 3k and I made about 300pp as he would give me a cut for my troubles....At my low level 3-6 at the time I was more than happy to complete this task.As the Money got me all my spells till 14 and some nice gear). If you are lowlevel and doning this for one of the High guys just put your stuff in the bank then carefully run out tto perma....as everything will kill you..)

Inside VS Outside
# Feb 04 2002 at 10:39 PM Rating: Good
As someone posted down a ways, the 2 that are inside, past the ice giant diplomat, are bad-asses compared to the ones outside. I also had a 51 earth pet up, and pulled the 2 ice giants. they were able to take all his HP down at around the same time he had the one he was tanking down to i'd say 5% health. If i could single pull them, my pet could solo them, with heals from me. occasionally, maybe not even, but they do have 100% resistant. 3 malosi's, 6 blazes, and 3 shock of swords were all resisted fully. i ended up not being able to gate fast eough, and lost level 51 to those bastages, but who cares, 51 is about cake *** easy to get anyway :) the knowledge was worth the death. The ones outside are little girls and my 51 pet eats them for breakfast.

My guild was camping Ice Giants inside tonight. I was getting 100% resists. When I mentioned it to the guild, I was told that you have to be in melee range to cast a spell on them. I stepped up after the tanks had agro and sure enough I could land spells like normal. That might be what your problem is with the resists.

Here's how that Battle would go, within the first 30 seconds the ranger would be down, followed by the cleric at about 45 sec mark cause ahe wasted a few heals on ye, at the 1min 15sec mark the Pally would be history (after his LoH),Then at 1min 15sec the BL pet is down, foloowed by his Master at about 1min 35secs, Hopefully the shammy wasnt stupid enough to cast anything on the mobs, as it wouldnt hit anyways, and was running to perma zone, if not he dies before the 2 minute mark elapsed. And the Ice Giant, with no noticable affext to his HP Bar, walks back to his spawn spot to wait for you all to come get your corpses.

Do yourselves a favor, hunt the Mammoth. Same exp as most should be red to you, and decent loot since the tusks sell from 7-10pp per to vendors.

Well, if you read my above message, no way in hell. The cleric couldnt keep up with heals, then the melee would not make contact, the beastlords warder will die in one hit, the nukes would affect it, i would have hated to watch this happen, as everything went wrong.

no, you have no chance. IG will kill your full-buffed 20's tank before your shammy and cleric can heal them, then have all your group as its dinner.

The Icey out front are a breeze to solo, the ones inside had 100% magic resist/spell resist and seem to have up toward 10k in hit pts maybe more it was only my pet fighten I didn't land but one spell the three time I trid to drop him.The pet i used was a 51 Earth he trimmed about 20% of his health off before he was himself low on health and I kew chain casting would not be worth the effort, so I gated.

Bard Solo at 38
# Jan 04 2002 at 5:48 PM Rating: Default
Bards can effectively solo these guys. My 38th bard took one out last night with no problems. I had Nostrolo's Tambourine equipped and twisted the following songs:

Selo's Accelerando (Don't let this drop!)
Fufil's Curtailing Chant
Tuyen's Chant of Flame

It took about 15 minutes but he eventually dropped. During one of the solo's Tundra Jack came over and killed him when he had a sliver of life left. That was frustrating!

Just thought I'd share how I kill em.

When soloing the front two back to back:
Hit with darknes/snare/dot spell.
Fear
Pet Kill
Splurt

When front are camped and i get stuck with single spawn in back same as above plus ebolt to speed things up.

No need for lich in back, but I use it quite a bit out front. Typically I'm able to get Mana up high then cancel the effect to retain health. When using lich I generally also use deflux to self heal 2x per giant.

I like to keep my mana very high for a simple reason: I hate dieing. With the single spawn in the back you never know when you might get an add if whoever back there doesn't know what they are doing. If it's a druid lookout because non-feared igs will aggro you and your pet.

There is also the matter of Tundra Jack, Martar, et all occassionally finding their way there. I've seen all of the above and it can ***** your camp up good if you are low on health from lich or on mana. I even had the icy orcs trained in on me once. I feared Redwind and never saw him again (no doubt someone killed him).

This is a good camp for plats, you can do 1k in a few hours easy more if you have some weightless packs. If you can manage to waddle around with all the FS and other drops they add a couple hundred more pp. Otherwise you may end up destroying them because the igs do drop lotsa stuff.

PS
It does not hut to advertise the FS for 3-4pp each, the barbs can go into town and get up to 5-6pp for them with spirit of snake or other charisma modifiers. Plus then the weps get spread down through the noobs, a fine steel two handed sword is okies when you are level 5 etc.

You are thinking of frost giants in Velious. They are completely different from ice giants, which are only found in Everfrost and Permafrost.
