IG hit points, loot

I can definatively say that the Ice Giants in Everfrost have just under 5000 hit points. Been killing them for the past few days and running the battles through an analyzer. My approach (level 51 ranger) is to root, dot, then shoot like crazy, root, dot, shoot, etc until dead, (the IG's dead of course, not me).

In every case, the amount of damage they took was in the 4900-5000 point range.

Loot can be maddening of these guys. I've gotten plat as high as 46pp but once I got 2 gold, 3 silver (Boy was I ticked off at that one!) Good amounts of gems and FS weapons over the course of 8-10 battles. Of course there are the occasional Ice Giant Toes and about 4 or 5 different kinds of 1-2 plat jewelry.

Resist!
# Apr 22 2003 at 5:52 AM Rating: Decent
Just as an FYI, they don't resist much but they do have an Area resist. What I mean is if you are NOT in Melee range, they will appear to resist everything but if you move in close, they are like other MOBs of the same lvl.

SO keep an eye on that.

i killed one before when i was about 34, with two other shamans within a level. we all just sat there dotting in and sending pets in. it was hard, it took a while, and i did die once (stupid groupmates didnt heal me as i was running around while gettting whacked). at that time, they hit for at least 100, and they hit pretty fast. i went back at about 37, grouped with a 53 ranger, and we took them out pretty easily (although he did most of work hehe). now im 41, i been meaning to head back and try to solo one, with a kei and temperance/virtue. it shouldnt be a problem, my spells would probably stick a bit more now. theres only 3 areas they spawn, and they are regularly camped, try the hill giants also in rathe if you looking for nice plat drops (and much easier to solo - my first HG solo was at 37)

# Jun 02 2003 at 10:39 AM Rating: Decent
I soloed a WK hill giant with my 36 Ranger and can tell you that they seem much easier than the Rathe HG. The guy dropped 40pp, plus over 100 of all other coin. They are hard to find in WK which is why sooooooo many people camp them in Rathe Mts. Was there @ 37 and had trouble keeping them rooted, plus they spawn and wander so adds are a definite consideration.

As far as IG go, I tried one @ 37 and ran my butt all around EF repeatedly hitting with DoT (Swarm) and arrows when I could get the root to stick (KEI made all the difference). It was worth it for the 1/2 bub of XP and FS weaps I looted. Looking to get a small group to camp one since there are only 3 who spawn (all at the entrance to Permafrost), and someone is ALWAYS on each of them....no I did not SAY farming....just camping for their own quests, yeah, their own quest items......I'm sure that's what I mean.

At 41 with KEI it will be a piece of cake. My 37lvl druid is soloing them w/KEI now. Even the red ones aren't that hard, just take a little longer. An FYI for ant druids in the mid to upper 30's, they are very managable. Snare 'em and DoT them. Don't waste the mana on DD spells. They resist alot or take minimal damage.

# Apr 06 2003 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
A guy below, 51 Mage, said the IG is easy for him is probably right.

I am a 47 mage and I CAN sometimes solo these mobs, but it is risky. Mages get nice new spells at 49, so I shan't go back until I have them.
how much
# Mar 24 2003 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
how much plat do these guys drop?
RE: how much
# Apr 09 2003 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
Not much, spent a few nites in there got about 2-3 pp off them. Unlike the ones in everfrost.
RE: how much
# Apr 07 2003 at 11:37 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know if this is norm, and when grouped it was ALOT smaller but I got 40pp & alot of change (lots of lesser coins) and a FS mace which sold for another few plat off one last night (first solo kill). Overall one kill netted over 45pp from a Everfrost IG.

Now I wonder is this a norm cause I got KSed before I could kill another one and find out.

N, yes a 35 druid can solo one of these =). Just takes patience. It also helps to have VERY high abjuration for that level (specialization is 93 skill at around 180), kei (which wasn't absulotuly necessary with FM), and good wis to make sure he stays put and off you letting the DoT work. Didn't have to cast any other spells than root, snare, swarm, crud and a few whacks when he was running.

Ah be a level 46 cleric o Blessed Brell an me friend be a level 45 o 46 warrior o Blessed Brell.

He done aggroed t'Icy Giant inside Permafrost behind the door next to t'King's room. Ah hit me friend wit Celestial Healing (HoT 748 in 24 sec) JUST AS HE AGGROED the giant. I had to do that three times, and use one Complete heal. Problem solved. Giant went down.

Oh yeah when I hit the giant with two of my Retributions (DD donna know damage actually) - it made its health line move but only about a sixteenth of an inch - glad I wasn't soloing tha damme thing!!

It has magic an bad jumjum it is too - me tanks health bar went kerplunk a couple times and if it weren't fer the pre-healing he woulda dropped quick.

My tank was Symboled (naltron), Resolution, Resist magic, resist cold, resist fire, Armor of Faith, and my fingers were crossed.

first off you dont need a kei to solo these guys im 46 & can solo any giant & have soloed them all from the rathe mts ones all the way to sro. second anybody that tells you that sk's cant solo tell them to look me up same serve like i said im 46 & i have soloed my entire career...except for a few times when my wife has wanted to play with me for cover. i lvl her often just because i can. but yeah you can solo these guys at will w/o a kei...though the kei would make it easier.

I think that there is alot of great information in here about IG's for anyone who would consider fighting one, these posts are invaluable, though, no one seems to have mentioned the damage that IGs average, FYI its commonly over 100. I was reading the post by the 29 Nercro, I assure you that if the IG that they fought had been a duel weilding IG, and the first de-buff spell had been resisted, that would have been 2 corpses at IG's, 55+ charecters do not die there for fun. an unslowed duel weilding IG will kill you faster then you could imagine.

Someone said that these have 1400 Hps. I would say that estimate was greatly underestimated. I just put 4736 points of damage into one with a combination of dots, roots, and nukes over the course of 7 minutes and it was still hanging on with 0% life left. That was on a dark blue con at Lvl 52

Partner Kill
# Oct 08 2002 at 3:24 AM Rating: Decent
A friend and I decided to give it a shot. He is a 31 ranger named wrektum, i am a 29 necromancer. It took us a half hour and a lot of boil blood and arrows. We each made hotkeys for when we needed the other to take the agro, when we needed to resow (we knew the fight would last longer than our sow), when we were low on hp and mana and so on. They resisted about half my boil blood spells, wrektum made 14 stacks of arrows for the fight and used them all. He saved all his mana to heal me so i could keep up my hp->mana spell, I would pull fly bys when i had the agro so he could heal me. Then he would take the agro and bow kite it while I medded. Neither of us had any outside buffs or heals. Only one blue of xp for all that work... But this has to be a new record or something!

Hi im a 51 mage and i just have to say that these are fairly easy, BO3, DS, sick pet, nuke twice and bye bye mr icey. As for the lvl 20's and 30's groups wanting to take IG's, theres no way. The loots nice and the XP is just as good at 51, if you can solo these i highly suggest you do so

i'm a 35 monk with about 700 ac, 1300hp (unbuffed), an IFS for a wep mixed with chitin handwraps. good but not uber. anyways. if i were in a full group of fello 35's u think i could take em?
RE: should i try it?
# Apr 07 2003 at 12:12 PM Rating: Decent
You can do it with a single partner (see second suggestion)

Team up with a couple healers or a healer and a tank so you can alternate agro giving the healer a chance to med but not much so watch the healer's calls, these critters hit hard and pretty fast. This is mana intensive though and you should have a energy regen on you so you don't have to rely on the healer quite as much.

Alternately group with someone who can root, heal, and cast DoT so you both can rest and recoup while the giant still loses health when snared. Also advisable to that they can snare so you have time to get up and keep the agro off the healer. Make sure the caster has really good Abjuration to make certain the snare if not the root holds.

I got hit once and learned my lesson staying WELL out of reach, so most casters will want to stay out of agro.

RE: HP and Loot and etc
# Jun 18 2002 at 11:33 AM Rating: Excellent
The ones in Everfrost have about 4000hp. I saw a level 40 druid killing them solo, using all of his mana. I have also taken a couple on as a level 51 cleric. The couple I have soloed have taken all of my mana. As a cleric, my nuke is 516pts. Usually in a fight one is fully resisted, one is 80% resisted, and rest land for full.
Loot on about 15 kills has been 0 plat to 36 plat and other coin, up to 2 fs weapons and 2 gems/toes/etc per kill.

red means it is above your level, white or black means it is the same level as you, blue means it is right below your level, light blue means it is a few more below your level, and green con means that you could probly spank it hard. at level 6 you were very green to a IG that is level 38 to 42. in other words HE spanked you hard....

Me(Sham 42) and my lvl 42 monk friend can take these pretty easily.

Monk has Jade Mace.. and Staff of shielding. Can take a blue one down with about 2 bubs of mana left.. and a white con is real hard but totaly possible with FM.

THe sham DOTs and the speed of the monk eat HPs like nothing. Slow keeps them from putting out to much dmg.

Perma Frsot Giants are different
# May 02 2002 at 10:27 AM Rating: Excellent
the posted level range of 38 - 42 is only correct for the outside giants in Everfrost.
Inside giants between the throne room and Vox can be as high as 50+. We pulled the first two spawns behind the diplomat last night during a little coronet farming session, and at least 3 where red to our 47 warrior (=50+), all blue to a 53. Without tash, several resisted multiple attempts to be slowed, rooted or snared. So don't be fooled by the low level "yard trash" outside, the perma frost giants are of a different calliber. Also, their aggro and assist range is level adequate, don't try to pull the lair giants without a FD puller. You will get 3-4 (unless you can handle that :)).

Absolutely agree with this post. We went as a guild group last weekend and posted a upper 30-lower 40 group on an outside spawn. We then took an upper 40-low 50's group inside.

Any high 40's caster/druid should be able to solo the ones outside. However, once you get inside, you are playing with a new breed. These guys resist BIG TIME...for those of you used to seeing a mob's health bar go down as you nuke away, stand by, because without some sort of magic reduction, the only thing that will be going down on the inside giants is your mana bar, and you'll be contemplating gate.
A 30ish Group can take.

This is the same level 16 as you see below. I am level 31 now, and my grouop and i (32 warrior, Me a 31 Rogue, 33 Cleric, 30 Shadowknight, and a 31 magician) were able to solo one of these guys one at a time. We had buffs from a level 48, all of us, and we all had SOW to zone into Perma. The first two there was a lvl 55 there who conned them for us, they conned light blue to him, so we tooke them rather easily. Then the third our warrior died as he was a dark blue to the lvl 55. We killed 3 all together with only one death, not bad, and the war constantly taunting. I looted a fine steel shaft, 10pp, an ivory, and some toes. dont know what else they got was too busy celebrating.

Hiya im a level 17 rogue of the tribunal and just logged. For the past three hours i have been sitting outside the camp for these things as high levels killed them. When they killed one, they didnt always loot all the items. I got about 10 gold rings, 15 topaz crystals, a fine steel warhammer, and 13 jade earings. You can sell the jade earings for about 10-20 pp in east commons i was told. The topaz crystals are sold to merchants for 4 pp or to jewelcraft people if you can find them for about again 10pp. in the process i got about 25 of their toes, all for about 8 gp each. While waiting for Snow orc shamans and other calfs to pass i sat and practiced my sense heading sense traps sneak and hide. went up about 5 in those. I was about a low 16 when i started and now have 1 bubble into my 17th level from killing shamans. If things are looking bad just yell for help and with luck a high level will help. You can get nice buffs from the high levels too if you if you ask nicely. Just thoguht id share what i did today, from all the shaman loot and ice giant toes and whatnot i made about 50pp. A good day for me today.
