Martar Icebear

Scuba's directions for spawning Martar have been confirmed to function circa 2016:

Spawning Marter Icebear is easy if you have a tracker and a wee bit of patience.

Since Marter and Karg Icebear are so interrelated, I will be posting this under both of their names on Zam

Marter Icebear and Karg Icebear are relatively easy to spawn but a good tracker is required. These two are not on the same spawn cycle, though both of their cycles do include the same mobs.

The starting area is between the Wayfarers Camp and the west branch of the river above the split. slaughter any roaming mobs in that general vicinity. Mobs not included in the cycle are adult mammoths. What you are trying to spawn are polar bears, polar bear cubs and any of the Icy Goblins. These can spawn in any of about 20+ spawn sites. Generally, they will spawn between the ice giant fort and Megan's Tower, from almost to the north LDoN entrance to the lower LDoN entrance. The PH for these two re-spawns in 12 seconds +/- 3 seconds. Once you have a PH on tracking, stop the slaughter and wait about 20 seconds to make sure the slaughter re-spawns are done. Kill the PH and watch for what spawns about 12 seconds later. The re-spawns will include spiders, orcs and mammoth calves. Keep track of any other mobs that spawn at the same time, Tundra Jack and Iceberg will be killing at the same time. Almost every mob in that area of the zone re-spawn on the same time frame. Keep killing the re-spawns until you get either Marter or Karg. If you are after Marter and Karg is up, leave him up and repeat the killing of PHs until you get the Icy Goblin or the polar bears. These will become your new killing cycle.

Notes of interest: 1. I have had Marter spawn 12 times in a row then again not for over 25 kills of the PHs.

2. Normally, the named and the PHs will spawn in the north half of the zone, but they can spawn in the south..

3. I used a bard to track the re-spawns so that I would not get the spawns from the kills in the canyon area on tracking.

4. Watch the tracking very closely as the cycle contains orcs that can and will spawn all over the zone.. I:E a Snow Orc Trooper or Shaman. It also contains Snow leopards.

5. The Tainted Mammoth is not part of the cycle nor are any of the skeletons.

Good luck and good hunting.

There is nothing I have enjoyed more in my last 3 levels (30-33) while hunting Wooly Mammoths than to turn this guy into a smoking hole in the ground. Revenge is mine . . . only took 15 levels.

if you are hunting mammoths and dont want to get attacked by this guy, sit at the mammoth ruins ,no npc go close enough to aggro on you if you are on the platform

Sorry, pal, but that aint true. While at the Mammoth ruins, our good buddy Martar ran over us like an 18 wheeler while we were medding. Ouch!

have to disagree with you there pal, you must not have been on the pad, maybe on the ramp, but not on the pad itself. I have meditated on the pad many times and seen Martar just meander right on by minding his own business. Try it again, but this time, sit on the pad, not the ramp.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 07 2002 at 2:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Don't med in the middle of the interstate you blooming idiot. If is wasn't for 18 wheelers you wouldn't have anything you can put your hands on. That's right, 18 wheelers are responsible for bringing you EVERYTHING you could possibly mention. You bought it then a truck brought it. So save your little fececious statements for people who truly deserve it. Maybe the idiots that think 18 wheelers can stop on a dime and constantly try to squeeze their little sports cars between the 18 wheeler and the car or other 18 wheeler that he is passing. By the way, maybe you should know that of all the accidents involving an 18 wheeler and a car, the car driver was at fault 82 percent of the time. So maybe you got ran over by a drunk driver, or high speed sports car, or irresponsible teenager, or pot smoker, or needle pusher. Either way, I guarentee you that if you are hit by a car at 80 mph you aren't going to care what kind of vehicle it was.

LOL. Leave it to some low IQ trucker to totally lose comprehension on the meaning of the previous post. Too funny. And just because you never got in an accident doesn't mean you are safe. I've experienced a few of you idiots who like to dangerously tailgate. You don't own the road. As for that 'everyone needs a trucker' mentality, that's pure horse crap. BTW I rated your post awful, as in awfully stupid truckers.

Okay, back to Martar. As a 32 ranger I solo'd him pretty easily. And unlike a weak druid I do not go down in 3 hits. In fact I could take most his hits, WHEN he hit me which wasn't a lot. Having lots of arrows for a ranger is a good strategy, and thorning yourself up works too. No Kei either, just straight up man to man. Err, barbarian to elf.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 20 2002 at 4:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok, off topic rant. i admit it. this guy has hit one of my peeve points. I drive a truck (OTR, so you know). this guy might not have noticed, but 18 wheelers are BIG. and i've seen lots of wrecks made worse because of that very thing. so what happens we a 4 wheeler (read: car, SUV, minivan) gets run over by an 18 wheeler? hello, pancake. der. moral of story: the guy wasn't picking on truck drivers, so shut yer trap and get on with the game.
Nothing better then reveng =)

If you have created a Barbarian Chr whatever the class and have hunted in everfrost peaks for exp between the lvls of 8-14, more then likely you have fallen victom to his fists. I was killed by this ******* at least a dozen times when i was a newbe. After I came back from LOIO at lvl 27 i decided to kill mamoths for exp. I forgot about martar compleatly. I hunted mamoths till i was lvl 34 (They are great Exp!) and my pet and I hunted him down. Funny how that when your looking for him he is never around =P but we spotted him and for once I had the advantage over him. He hits hard but he does not have many HP and went down fast. Now if only I could get back at lag like that.

To the level 35 Warrior that posted above.

I took him out at level 34 (needed to root and heal few times) BUT - you should do more damage than me, so you should be able to do it at that level.

If you had a healer around of almost any level - you would be able to take him out in a heatbeat

Had a 21 druid heal me a few times, she also tracked him for me, thanks Libra. He hit hard, but he still went down, got a nice cloke from his carcase to.

Good idea: Attacking and quickly making your way to Tundra Jack, once you're low on mana.

Bad Idea: Attacking and quickly running to tundra Jack in Wolf Form.

Tundra Jack...and any Barbarian are not fond of Wolf Form...steer clear of them...

I'm a lvl 34 Barb warrior, with a Mith 2hs and full crafted. I waited by Megan's Tower about a half hour till a polar bear cub came by, killed it (supposed to be his place holder) and ten minutes later Martar came by. He hit for 40-70 damage and I managed to kill him. He took me down to one bub of health but I got the Cloak of the Icebear (Yes!) and the Warthread Kilt (Bah!) off of him. Easy kill and not too long of a camp.

I was helping a shaman friend find this guy one day. We mess around for about an hour and a half when he pops. The shaman starts clubbing the hell out of Martar (with me watching) when this dirty KSer name Debraella comes up and nukes Martar. She then loots his corpse, takes the kilt and runs off. Don't people have morals anymore? I'm on the Tunare server, so if any of you guys are on, give a tell to Debraella and tell her how you think she sucks.

Tried him last at lvl 29. Unmalaised he resited all my attacks, Frost DD, Poison and Sickness DoT. And resisted the Malaise I tried than, but my cha was not buffed, so you might get lucky. Regarding his aggro range - it seems to shrink with the level of the victim - he walked by me at 29, but at 8 he came for me from quite a ways - Martar Icebear hits you for 152 - you are stunned, Martar Icebear hits you for 152 - you have been slain by Martar Icebear.

At 39 Karg and Martar are still blue... yea!

Have killed Martar about 4 times in the last week, he has dropped the cloak EVERY time. At 39 he roots down like a rock, slap dot's on him, and watch him rot. You have gained experience!

Martar vs SoW
# Jul 24 2000 at 11:57 PM Rating: Default
My lvl 16 warrior with with full health (thank God), was on his way back from perma and was big time encumberd. i was going up the river to starn bearjumper to sell then camp when i noticed my butt was rapidly getting kicked by martar icebear fortunately i had sow and i left him in the dust. i ran all the way to 2 tress and turned around to see if he gave up and i thought he did or turned on some other poor unexpecting person (thats when my SoW ran out). i sat down for a sec but was almost immediately brought back to my feet by martar once again kicking my **** i started to slowly run my encumbered self to the guards when i saw tundra jack and thought he would do just nicely so i ran circles around him but it took a couple of rounds for tundra to finally take martar down (time i didnt really have) even with tundra laying a can of woopas on martar he still managed to take about 200 hp(plus the 100+ hp he took off when i was running to tundra jack) off of me so dont count on tundra too much if your a lower lvl (just find a familiar spot to die for an easy corpse run if you dont have SoW).
Martar Icebear
# Jul 10 2000 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
I am a lvl 33 druid and easily soloed him. Start with Ensnare then combust him to death, not too hard. He didn't resist a single spell and I barely used 4 bars of mana to kill him. I would say he has around 1100hp.
RE: Martar Icebear
# Dec 04 2000 at 2:12 PM Rating: Default
Interesting, and maybe the reason this happened to me was because I am only lvl 27 at the time and dont have my 29 spells yet. I was camping this guy with a 22 Barbarian Warrior. Mistake Number 1. When I asked atound, someone mentioned he was lvl 25. I thought no biggie, Ill loot the cloak and sell it or something. He walked right past us while we were medding and practicing languages out of boredom.. I mean if this guy has an aggro range its small as hell. I *heard* the footsteps which is what made me look up in the first place. We, btw were camped in the middle of the frozen river right off to one side of Megan's tower. I sicced my pet, the warrior started bashing. He was actually doing decent damage, when I came into position and started nuking. 2 nukes, both resisted. At lvl 27 my bolt does 156 unresisted. Because I was hunting snow critters I didnt have my conjure nuke which does 167 unresisted, so I thought ***** it.. 1 more nuke. RESIST. finally I wised up, cast Malise, it stuck, but by then I only had mana for one bolt and one shock of flame. By then the warrior was dead, my pet had gone bye bye, and I had enough time to do a /loc before accepting my fate and meeting my maker on the frigid plains of Everfrost.

We depressed yet? :)

My point...
I think if I had started out the fight with Malise we would have lived. 5 nukes at 156 plus pet damage plus pet and warrior fire shield damage plus warrior using 2 handed whatever, a lvl 27 and a lvl 22 can take him. We are going to try again today. I guess the the moral of the story is that survival is reallly based on tactics.

He is like any other mob - if he knows you'll stomp his a** then he isn't going to even give you a sideways glance because he knows what is good for his survival....that's why a 45 Level Druid can play ring around the rosie with him ;)
....bad...man...
# Jun 05 2000 at 2:29 PM Rating: Default
This guy is tough. I've heard rumors that he only spawns when Karg Icebear has been killed, but I don't think that is true becausewhen I got my cloak from Karg, I turned around and got a fist full of Martar fist. Very nasty surprise. I only had around 250 hp at the time and he dropped me like a small child drops an expensive item in a glass shop. Stay away from him unless your lvl 38 or higher.
RE: ....bad...man...
# Oct 09 2000 at 4:14 PM Rating: Default
Martar is a wuss. I started killing him at 29th lvl. Now at 35th my pet can almost solo him. Karg is a bit higher and a lot tougher but also pretty easy to drop at 35. No need to stay away from Martar if you're a caster after 29th.
