Posted:Jun 27 2001 at 5:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i started on these at 26 and im 29 now plan on staying till 32 and im a warrior been soloing the whole time and i own joo rangers here in my home land
Yeah, If you can find these bad boys before the rangers can that is. Rangers happen to have tracking, and they will find them well before you do, unless you get real lucky. sheesh
Heheh Rangers own these guys with the addition of Panic Animal. Snare, DoT if you have it, fear, then wack away at their back legs, reapply fear as needed. Uses almost no mana, and you might get hit 2 or 3 times. My only problem is there arent enough of them in the zone. I was even solo'ing the corrupted's at 22 if I recall (deep red). Panic is an easy spell to stick on a yellow or red mob.
I'm a 16 lvl wizzy and I was wondering what is the first lvl spell that will not get resisted by these. When i was 14, my 12 lvl bolt and shock did nothing, always resited, will my 16 be resisted too?
I've been soloing white mammoths fairly easily now, usually don't get hit at all and use up 4 bubs of mana. Just snare, swarm, and careless lightning. They seem to have around 800 hp. The only problem is if he resists the lightning more than a couple of times. They are pretty fast and you need some room to kite. Important note, these are animals, not monsters, so if things get tight, terrorize animal works very well. You can even try fear kiting, but they hit for up to 48 points and I prefer to just stay away from them.
Ribs drop about 1 out of five and tusks seem to drop 1 per kill on average. Sometimes none, sometimes two. I get 9pp for tusks in Surefall.
I've hunted these guys a lot with many different characters and levels. Today my 20 enc grouped with a 22 druid was able to kill most of them with fear snaring. Had a much harder time killing them grouped with a pair of 18 warriors and three similar level shamans, they do hit pretty hard, double up to 54 dmg that I've seen so best to kite.. was 10x easier than straight up melee/heal grouping.
Druids are a little better against these guys than Shamy's because of snare and fear. But the two of you may still be fine. Make sure SOW is on and have the Shamy DOT the heck out of the Mammoth and start kiting with Spirit Strike. Get the Mammoth good and mad at the Shamy, then let the warrior beat on him from behind.
You'll need a lot of space without snare, try not to go toe to toe for long, these guys hit hard and often.
A third add to your group should be a Ranger or Druid, for snare/fear. The Ranger brings missile fire, good melee, and tracking. Probably a better fit with group since Shamy can Heal/Buff/Dot.
You need a REAL healer... hehe guess who is a cleric.... bring one of us. We are fun lovin people and are always anxious to get into a good group. And by the way all of you, LET THE CLERIC LOOT EVERY NOW AND THEN. sheesh i havent looted in five days of about 3 hours a day. powerlooting dwarfs and barbs keep taking it all. NO HEAL FER YOU!
you kidding me at lvl 17 warrior me and a lvl 19 monk took one of these things on true you might need a heal but they are kinda easy besides the fact that they hit for up to 50 but if you have high agi and good parry dodge and STR they will miss you ALOT i went for 10 shots and it missed me all 10 Times
ummm you sure you werent doing a calf? mammoths will hit for 50 to 100 and not miss alot besides having enough hit points for an army.:) also they resist most if not all the lvl 19 shaman spells...
You are too low at level 16 to hunt wooly mammoths unless you have plenty of help. I would recommend that you and your level 20 necro friend grab a level 19 or higher shaman at a minimum. You can make good use of his buffs, debuffs, DoTs, SoW, and melee.
My magician was in Everfrost Peaks last night for something else, but he did stop off to kill a couple of mammoths, since he gets almost 9 pp per tusk. One of the mammoths he killed was blue. My mage is level 34, so I think you have to say these beasties go up to level 27 on occasion.
I was a 24 shaman when i started hunting these solo. They double hit in the 50's. I just root...dot them med root...dot again till dead. I got to level 30 with these by 27 i was meleeing them to death while dot's did their work too. good luck with them
Wow. this makes me feel so much better about myself. i am not trying to go on an ego trip but i have been killing these ever since i hit 11. You may not believe me, but come to Tunare and you can see me. All you need is tainted breath, sicken, and frost rift. Hehe. i know this sounds like suicide, but i forgot one element.... SOW. hehe. This is the key to survival. Basicly: KITE!!! And keep close to the gaurds, and be prepared to sometimes.
Im a lvl 22 Druid at the moment and these guys give the best xp I've seen so far w/o killing NPCs and losing faction. They each give my a quarter bub of xp and their tusks sell for really good money in the store. I can kite these guys all day.

hehe No way! I have slew literally 1000's of mammoths with two different characters and with a good connection and low lag and packet loss you can outstraff them if you get in trouble.
They are lots of fun to kill! If the place is deserted of higher level players and a lot of mammoths are up, you can make 100p off tusks pretty quick. They started going green to me at level 33 but only a few.
I was hunting Icy Orcs (Everfrost) last night when I heard two separate shouts inviting anyone in need of Mammoth (no drop) Rib to come and get it. Totemic Gauntlets here I come...8^)
one note my hunting party and I found that the mamma's could outrun sow...oh how we found out (still looking for one of the bodies..) plus they will come to the aid of the crying babes or so im told..can not verify that..its still rumor at this pointbut one worth noting
I hunted these with a 20 shaman (I'm a 22 enchanter) yesterday, and we had no problems with them. We killed about 6 of them but no ribs (only half had anything at all). The level range above is correct, at least the low end; only one was an even con to me, the rest yellow or red. The shaman had hunted them before on other servers and swore that they've reduced the spawn rate since then. The 6 we killed took us about 2 hours to find, not worth it IMO. Also be warned that calves will assist Mama's & vice-versa.
Actually, when I quit EQ 'Mama's" were conning all colors except green to my 29th level Barb Shaman. Most were yellow or blue, with a few reds as well...
I /con everything that moves, sits, stands, and breaths (or not). I have a 26 cleric (which sucked) and a 19 necro now. I got the /con habbit after wandering into an abandoned house in East FP... necros don't like clerics? Why not? :)
After a lot of crap I finally got my stuff back... (thanks guys)...
One good thing came of it... my necro never had to wander around town looking for the guild!
So, a note to all characters of any type... CON everything. always. This will save you many unneeded deaths.
Also, on a side note, I have seen "A Mammoth Calf" instead of "A Wooly Mammoth Calf" a whole lot in EF since a few patches back. Perhaps they will just change all the calfs to non-wooly types... This would save everyone confusion. Funny also, the elephants (in SK) hunt in EF... they often carry small mammoth tusks :) j/k
Just consider them to have the complete name. Calf are easy but their mother are harder lvl 22-26. They are great xp amd money. Just look correctly before posting message like that!
