I was looking on casters realm at weps that might drop that I could get for my rogue alt, saw this guy and said he was level 40! Now why is it that casters realm first of all is usually lacking all the information needed as far as where things drop? and also why are all the search items they have in there way uber items? no items that anyone below 55 or so could get Even a 60 solo couldn't ever get 3/4 of the items they got. Really dumb and now I am depressed I can't get this wep was all excited

I'm sorry, but Caster's Realm is... well... a pretty bad site.

They have the bard song Kellin's Lucid Lullaby listed as an AE mez spell, when it hasn't been one in over a year.

Killing Lifetappin Mobs for Newbs
# Jun 22 2002 at 3:33 AM Rating: Decent
ok...folks if you ever are trying to kill a mob that lifetaps its simple and easy:

Main Objecctive:
Get your DPS higher than his life tap regen.

Methods to increase your DPS tremendously without touching your weapons or levels:

1. Shrink everyone if you can..this applies to VS I know of ..maybe scalekeeper...probable this mob as well. The more people u can cram into the mobs *** to attack the higher your dps will be.

2. If after shrink u still feel that u can't get all your melee behind the mob confortably kick the sks bards pals to the curb...you don't want a pally cockblocking a rouge from backstabbing becuase the rogue can't get in range.

Method to stop his regen:
The mob is gonna get his regen from the tank period. You can rune..spell shield..use pally and ranger level 60 disiplines to stop the regen....whatever..Lifetapping mobs get their regen from main tank

However, he should only be lifetapping the tank no one else..if you are hitting a lifetapping mob from the front..he will riposte and life tap you...in VS's case that is 1500hp...

VS HAS 18k hp...1500/18000 * 100 = 8.3%...VS just regened 8.3% of his life because your dumbass can't attack from his rear.

Just by applying these tatics you will see life tapping mobs fall...if you don't..u will die.

we just did this guy wuth 16 peeps, gated first try, informed the chanta to drain mana on the second and he was owned.

He does not hit hard and his Life tap is not anything to worry about. you just need to make sure you get him slowed and keep him slowed. Started off making a 60 war go Deffensive, then waited a few before all other attacked. once he is slowed cleric mana is nothing to worry about.

Thats how you survuve Van to kill him just bring a few rogues/monks/Ranger for DPS.

we had levels 58-60 and he went down very easy.

remember:
1: Malo, OOS, Tash
2: Slow
3: Mana Seive
4: Start off Defensive

Anyone know his spawn time?
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 26 2002 at 7:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm Mitch on Bertox. We went in to kill crap and after a while went down to Vaniki. We were doing great then we heard the lev 60 warrior Bonehammer (Who ALWAYS does stuff with my guild) shout "OK guys! time to kill a named mob that drops the weap im using!" So everyone got ready and we buffed. We got Vaniki and 6 adds. Needless to say we were slaughtered with 3 groups. So Red Sky (one of the big guilds on the server) ran in to kill him, but started rezzing us first. the DEAD corpse of a relogged guildie PULLED Vaniki. Red Sky and all of our guild went down in this one fight. So my guild brought in our expert corpse pullers, while red sky went in without equipment. They all died, while we got all of our corpses out and evac'd. They came back in a 2nd round about 5 min later, killed everything, looted corpses, buffed, then killed Vaniki. DON'T ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU CAN SOLO PULL VINIKI.

Whenever you fight a mob that you know gates, make sure to have the necro/shaman/druid to use their dots. When the mob does gate, it will still be taking damage from said dots, and we've dropped many a gating ******* that way.

# Mar 07 2002 at 4:06 AM Rating: Default
The "VS" Tactic is chain runing, you'll want to have 2 encs doing this and using the same rune spell, theres sometimes problems with stacking runes 3 and 4 or 4 and 5.. Would it be possible to beat him to 15% let him gate and have your neighborhood friendly wizard run up and suicide mana burn him? =D
RE: -
# Mar 08 2002 at 4:44 AM Rating: Default
May be possible to stop him from gating with simply mana sieving. A lot of mobs can be stopped that way. Seeing as he reportedly has less than 40k hp, though, I could definitly see the melee/wizards and such taking him down before he makes gate if you have enough people.

I'd stick to fighting him near his spawnspot myself so he doesn't gate on you. He's slowable and doesn't really hit all that hard so there's really no reason to use a tactic like that.

Mebe is guilded with another poster here, Fattus. Mebe also just got a willsapper. We took him down with 22 people this time. There were a few deaths when the MA went down with Vaniki at 15%

We did not have the debuffers there to be able to stick a slow since we had a 56 shaman, no magician, and no bard. Mebe's opinion: if he pops in a good spot, and you have the staffing to stick a slow on a red-to-60 mob, you can probably do him with 3 groups of 55+ or 2 groups of 60s with a high damage output class mix. If you cannot stick a slow, you need more on the order of 4 groups with good damage output. We had 1 58 rogue w/ragebringer, 2 58+ wizards, 2 57 -60 monks and various other folks. Obviously, if you have rogues with post epic stuff and others with NToV gear, your mileage may vary.

When you go in, understand what you are going to do on adds. Some of the "normal" rats in DN are very high level and mezing with the high level spells will run your enchanters oom before the fight is over and charm will break before the fight is over. If you are having trouble beating respawn and getting a 5 - 10 minute kill window, you probably do not want to try him because you will add and that may put the hurt on you. If you split tank adds you are going to have a bigger drain on your healing team, and have to divert your damage output. If you pull to a safe spot you are going to have to fear the gate.

This fellow is heavy. Have a plan. Be ready to coffin CR if things go bad. Enjoy the fight and figuring the rest out for yourself. It's a fun encounter.

Like Fattus, Mebe also loves his willsapper.
Lifetap - VS Tactics?
# Feb 21 2002 at 4:26 PM Rating: Decent
Someone mentioned above that they used "VS Tactics" to stop lifetap. Can you explain that a bit further? We worked him once, but I have no idea how you'd prevent him from casting lifetap. Mana drain would work *eventually*. But prolly not soon enough.

Main group was 60 warrior, 60 warrior, 60 cleric, 60 wizard, 60 bard, 60 enchanter. Second group was 58 cleric, 56 cleric, 60 wizard, 60 rogue, 58? magician, 55 warrior. MT had ~5200 hp.

We had lots of healing to go around, to say the least =) And no small amount of melee output.

We tried chain-casting spellshield, and that kept his lifetap damage output low, however he still got his 500hp from it. Might have been better to let him lifetap and give the warrior a chance to resist it. But we never made a noticable dent in his hp. We never lost anyone, but we jetted once all 3 clerics ran OOM. Didn't have shaman or necro to drop diseases on him to beat the regen, probably our biggest mistake.

you had 3 warriors 1 rogu 1 bard for melee, together all 5 of them couldnt equal the damage of 1 monk 1 ranger and 2 rogue, your melee out put was weak, once a warrior goes defensive his melee out put drops in half at a minimum, as for the wizzies they could out damage all 5 of your melee but prolly got a bunch of resists, as did your mage with his debuff. warriors are tanks not the best at damage output, you prolly would have killed him with 2 groups say with 2 warriors 2 monks, 2 rogues, 2 rangers, 2 clerics 1 shaman, 1 wizzy, 1mage 1 chanter (i know thats 14 so adda 15th member, a druid, to group and heal the extra 2, makeing it 2.5 groups) he prolly would have went down np for you. NOTE: all should be lvl60 vaniki is lvl 63 so he will resist alot but if your debuffers are 60 they have a good chance of landing spells first or second cast. now gather your forces and go try again.

killed him tonight, he hits for 230ish flurries a lot. procs 500 lifetap about every round if not more than once a round. he's a necro, gated at about 5% health. had 40% instantly heh. dunno about regen cause mobs always get some health back on gating, plus he summoned and slaughterd some people on the way back...about 50 feet hehe...so im sure he sucked a few thousand hp from them too. long fight...mean rat...love my willsapper=)

How To Kill Vaniki 101
# Dec 01 2001 at 8:36 AM Rating: Decent
He's actually a pretty easy but long fight, just gotta know a few things about him and make no mistakes in the fight. ;)

Important things to know about him before fight:

He sees invis and will camp corpses and FD people. Can't say for sure how long, but I've seen him do this for 30+ mins. So, if your group/guild whipes or your FD near him you're pretty much gonna have to get corpse summoned. He also will immediately aggro anyone who gets down to a bubble of health or so.

As for the fight, I reccomend pulling him out of the tunnel going into the corner with the 60 warrior that will be tanking him. (Don't pull him past the wall or Jaled will Deathtouch whoever is engaging rats.)

Let the warrior that pulled him build good aggro for about 15 - 20 secs and then go Defensive. As soon as the main tank goes defensive the rest of the melee should join in fight, staying max attack range from the main tank. Then do the usual debuffs: tash, malo, malosini. Then get him slowed and disease him to stop his massive regen. NOTE: To slow Vaniki the shaman MUST be in melee range or else it won't work period. After this is done, the enchanter should spend the rest of the fight sieving him constantly to prevent him from gating at the end of fight.

Do all this and have melee turn attack instantly if they get aggro off the main tank and watch overnuking casters and you'll be set. Vaniki has 100k hps so be prepared for a long fight. Make sure cleric has plenty of mana to keep up with heals, so putting a bard in group is a very good idea.

He can be taken with one uber group, but I've seen 35+ people get their asses handed to them by him. Following the tactic above and having the right classes and you'll succeed. 60 WAR and 60 SHM are a MUST, you'll also NEED these classes: CLR ENC ROG BRD (preferably 55+) Again, he can be killed with one good group but more people will make the fight go a lot faster. Always helps to have backup cleric/s to heal main tank in an emergency as well as those getting hurt from his damage shield and occasional aggro. Necros also help to pump mana if needed as well as more melee and nukers.

Just stick to the strategy and don't try to zerg him..

For you people insisting that he 'must be unslowable' and others reporting he regens so quickly that 'the meleers were not moving his life down,' do you even understand the approach one should use when trying to debuff extremely high resist mobs?

1. Malo or mala, both irresistible 60 mage or shm
2. Occlusion of sound, also irresistible 55 bard
3. Tash, irresistible, highly aggro on enchanter, 57 enc spell
4. Malosini, MR based, resistible, shm or mage

5. SLOW ATTEMPT
6. Disease attempts

If you did not follow this procedure, I have no sympathy for you! I also place no stock in your reports of slowability =P

Separate issue: I haven't heard anyone report that Vaniki Rampages, though I wouldn't rule it out. If he does not rampage, you need to isolate aggro on one tank at a time (60 warrior with defensive ideally). Rogues, rangers, anyone else who gets aggro should already know to turn off attack, jolt/evade/FD, and step back a few feet till the tank regains aggro.

If Vaniki is not a caster and does not actually gate, then it's a warping problem that I'm not sure how to deal with. If he warped and was not summoning people to his spawn point, and was also regenning at an even higher rate, I guess his aggro list was cleared when he warped/path freaked? I've seen Taskmaster Abyott in GD do the same thing, warp to spawn point, forget the 6 of us, and start regenning as though at rest. In any case I spose keeping him away from walls, rocks, anything other than open, flat ground is key. GL 2 U SAHS
Vaniki's heart
# Oct 24 2001 at 8:17 AM Rating: Excellent

For the person wondering about Vaniki's heart. Neb the leader of the Paebala side gives a Quest for the Key to Jaled'Shers room. The price is Vaniki's heart and Zlandicars Heart.

The reward is Nebs Warbone 1hb 15/23 str 10 sv fire 15 proc bone melt. And the Key to Jaled'shers room. Well worth it? If yoou cant get Zlandacar to give you the quest anymore then yes it is. Zland gives the same quest basically all he wants is proof of Nebs death. Neb will drop the Neb Warbone when killed to I believe.

Just to clear up.
Vaniki doesnt CH himself. He is a melee mob not a caster. He does tho have insane regen.I could see him regening himself to full in a just a few minutes from near death.
Which is probably why others thought they hardly scratched him.You really have to drop a disease line dot on him to stop it.Either that or bring so much offensive power with you that you shouldnt bother killing him anyway and should just go bum rush random unsuspecting WW dragons.
I could see raids of 20 plus people getting sent to bind points by him easily.Like most of the bigger velious mobs he has some hefty resists (suggest malo or mala / oos and tash on him. Then maybe a malosini after just to drop them even more.)
Just a rough estimate tho without regen he probably has in the neighborhood of 150-250 hp a tick regen.Couple that with flurry attacks that can drop alot of non tank classes in one round and its easy to see why as he takes away your damage dealing potential he wins a war of attrition with anyone not fully prepped for him.
Full debuff crew ,slow and disease dots are a must on him really.
