Killing Garou
# Jun 07 2003 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
I killed this guy back when I was 45. He was hard the first time because I didn't have KEI and my tactics where all wrong. The second time I did it right. You have to de-buff him a couple of times first (after you snare him of course, he has sow), to get rid of his HP buff. Also cast resist magic on yourself because he does cast dots. He is on a long spawn time, 18 hours I think with a spawn skip at random. I camped him on and off for about 2 weeks and only saw him 3 times paths in a box pattern right behind the ToFS. Dropped the skin on the last time. The weapon is a little over rated I think, at least for a 45. It was fun to finally get it tho.
What's the big deal?
# Feb 20 2003 at 9:05 PM Rating: Excellent
I don't understand why people think he's so hard. I (35 Druid at the time) encountered him while quadding cougars, and he attacked when I had about 1/3 - 1/2 of a bubble of mana left. I root-kited him for awhile, and got him down to about one bubble of health. I did die due to a combonation of no mana and a dot spell on me, but if I had had just one more bubble of mana to begin with I could've won. Granted, he never tried to heal, but if I had mana to heal myself too I still could've won. Anyway, when a passerby helped out and killed him for me, he dropped a dire wolf pelt (?), Spell: Turning of the Unnatural (Level 39 CLR), and Skin of the Garou

No joke, I saw Garou own my friends 56 Cleric. She had 80% mana going into the fight and he kept resisting. It wasnt pretty. Suffice to say, my 28 Dwarf Warrior was a snack after eating the cleric.

Killing Garou
# Dec 21 2002 at 8:43 AM Rating: Decent
My guildmate and I were doing the Cougars in IC last night when Garou poped and smoked her (lvl 32 Druid). I was playing my 28 Chanter a that time so when she got back I logged my 40 Druid to take him out. I had KEI
Ensnare stuck then DoD, Imolate, Crud, Swarm all stuck. Rooted and sat. He nuked me down to about 1 bubble of health (DoT's and nukes) I healed and hollered for my friend to hurry up getting her KEI redone.
Healed myself 3 times, nuked him 3 times he is down to 2 bulbs of health. I refresh all DoT's (2 resists on DoD and 1 on Imolate) and re-root. Down to 1 bulb of mana. Friend returns and starts to help out while I med. Garou heals himself with, GHeal I assume, to 3.5 health. OHOH!!!! Root breaks and he DoT's me again. I heal and nuke him twice more then he Gates out!
ARRGGGG!!! We track him and he is still rooted. I sit and med while friend dumps the mana pool on him. (Lots of resists on a 32 druid)
I get up and nuke him 3 times then he turns to run (1/2 bubble health) and we go in to get skill up with weapons. :)
He dropped the Skin and a CLR drop spell

Garou Killing
# Nov 03 2002 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
I ran into this guy tonight hoping he would drop the skin so I could complete the quest for the club. No such luck as he dropped only the fang, a LQ Dire Wolf Pelt and a 39 Cleric spell. He resisted my first 2 snare attampts but then I got a root to stick. While he was rooted I got a snare to hold and from there it was pretty easy. Dot, Nuke, Nuke, repeat when Dot fades and re-root when that breaks. He hit me with a couple Shammie spells for a few hundred Hp's but I had Gheal memmed in and quickly got back my health. I had a KEI on or running out of mana may have been a problem.

I love this weapon. Furiour Battlestorm (lvl 39) and myself (lvl 34) took out Midnight while just killing cougars. After aquiring the bloody cougar bone we looked up the quest. No sooner then that did we see Garou spawn and killed him. Must be beginner's luck because both items dropped and turned into Belix (located at pos3230 and pos2921)and recieved the club. Great item for the time I spent on it. It procs for life tape of 25 and proc'd for me 5 times in about 25 swings. I think that is pretty good if you ask me.
Nasty critter.

I've been waiting for that Garou for a few weeks now ever since I got the bloody cougar bone from Midnight. Logged in yesterday and a druid who was kiting cougars around the Tower shouted that Garou was up if anyone wanted him, I ran around the Tower a few times and was convinced it was an April Fools joke until I finally found Garou by Balix Misteyes's camp. He was dark blue to me at 51 and hit for 91, as a shadowknight I had to fear-kite him for quite some time as this guy has a lot of HPs, finally killed him but he only dropped the fang and a 39 druid spell. Seems the skin is rather rare, unfortunately.
What Luck!

Was levelling to twenty-nine in Ice Clad when my friend noticed Garou on track. Stopped killing cougars and tag teamed Garou. He gated out three times, each time healing himself (the sneaky bugger). Finally we got him down to quarter health and he was gonna gate again. This time I cast cancel magic on him and he was a gonner!

He dropped the Fang. A pretty nice piece of luck for a couple of Druids who just planned on levelling off cougars that day. But that Garou sure packs quite a whallop!
Poor Garou run slow =(
# Dec 18 2001 at 6:40 AM Rating: Decent
Dropped him (again) last night. I'm 49 bard, and I always dispelled him a few times at the start - a couple of times to drop his sow and a couple to remove any hp buff.

Once he's sowless he's easy to kite without fear of him getting in melee range. (which is a scary experience)

This quest seems to be working again. Killed Garou last nite and was pretty easy. Had a chanter with me and we used mez and nuke and he dropped without even casting. Dropped the skin, 39th druid spell and a dire wolf pelt. Needless to say I turned in my skin and bloody cougar bone from Midnight and got the club from Balix. Club looks like my newbie weapon but oh well has pretty nice stats for now.

Garou Spawning
# Nov 27 2001 at 2:58 AM Rating: Default
I quadded cougars for 3 days and Garou spawned, i kited him around, i am level 41, i ran OOM quickly and he had half his health left, i rooted him and gained mana back to dot him and root and dot until he was dead. he dropped the bloody fang and not the skin =( i wish to GOD someone knew for sure the EXACT spawn requirements if he is timed, triggered, and or what timing or what triggers him, since most people have different opinions on this i take them all to be possible but it's just too much to try and get him to spawn with all that. And 18 hours (or more if his spawn is skipped) is too long for this weapon they should make it better. I've been camping him for a week since that last encounter. NOTHING! Bah.

The spawn can't be triggered. It is every 18 hours, and it does sometimes skip a spawn. Thank you Verant.

What is his spawn rate and could a 40 ranger solo him, where does he spwan /loc if you can thanks.

The loc of his spawn is +2900, +2900. Near the shaman camp, by the Frozen Tower.
RE: spawn rate
# Oct 28 2001 at 9:32 AM Rating: Good
He has a chance to spawn every 18 hours and no I don't think a 40 ranger can solo him. I died to him at level 52! granted I think that fight was messed up. I wooped his *** twice at 54.

I've killed him four times and he only dropped the skin once. He usally drops that piercer.

Ok so I'm completely offended now. Being a Shaman myself and to say that Shaman are weak soloists obviously means you've never played a Shaman. And of course our kiting skills are lame, we're not kiters we leave that to druids and wizards. I beg to differ...Shamans can't tank ? BAH ! you've been grouping with the wrong Shaman then, granted we are no warrior, monk, or any hybrid, but we can certainly outmelee any pure caster and any priest class. Hell, I've even out meleed some tank classes I've grouped with. Slow a mob, haste yourself and your pet, have regen/chloro going and Shaman are very hard to beat. And comparing us to druids is almost insulting. Druids don't have the buffs we have, the slow spells, the AC, HP's,DoTs, they don't get a pet until 55, and name one druid that can solo dragons in WW. You can't name any, because there aren't any. The only class I know of that can do that is guess what ? A Shaman.
And these are not just a few here and there that have done it. Dozens of Shaman have soloed dragons in WW.
Shaman are one of the best end game soloers there are.
Settling for poor armor just to get 200 wis- any Shaman that does that is a dead Shaman. Unlike druids and clerics, Shaman don't need 200 wis, we can regen our own mana. We also have the AC to take a beating unike a druid who has to run for his/her life whenever they start to take hits.
I have nothing against druids, they are a cool class but don't think for one second that a Shaman is anything like a druid, because we're not. I hate it when people have opinions about a class that know nothing or very little about.

Well I do not have a shaman but my wife does and I have noticed that a shaman is not the strongest solo charater, their kiting skill are lame until 30's and they can not tank much better than pure castors.

Shaman are unique that they can be a good secondary melee with good armour but if they want to be a good castor they have to settle for poor or worse armour until they get ubber.

I have grouped with a shaman for most of my 35 lvls and real do not see much difference between them and a druid except that shaman have better exp and armour and being a porting class the only thing a druid has that a shaman does not is wolf form.

If anything a druid is more of a challenge to play over a shaman because of all their shortcommings.

And yes I do have a druid, lvl 8 now with lousy leather armour and a few other stuff

I would sign this but alas i have heard of people training other because of them stating things that went against their beliefs

just my 2cp

shamans dmg potential is ALOT greater then that of a druid (they get mutliple 1000+ dmg dots that stack) a shaman is far more valuable then a druid, i must say that (i hate playin a shaman tho and prefer my druid)but druids are more encouraging to play at lower levels... trying to solo as a shaman before 34 is a beating waiting to happen, which can be VERY discouraging... Im very glad there are both druids and shamans being a warrior they both make surviving alot easier...

# Dec 16 2001 at 12:38 PM Rating: Default
BUt i must admit i created my wife shaman and Now i am paying for my mistakes, i put all here extra points into sta and str and none into wisdom. and now i am paying for it cause you try getting a charater from 80 wisdom to 200, it is not cheap, but she does have 160 now and still wearing mostly rygor amour. But after we spend like 3 to 5k she should be up to 185 with only 15 left to go.
Pst don't tell the wife, she does not know lol
RE: Easy as pie
# May 30 2002 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
At the lower levels when the shaman oten gets grouped to fill the role of healer, extra wisdom is nice. However, the higher you get and the more rounded you become as a shaman you will find that having 200 wis is not necessary. And when you hit lvl 60 and get Torpor, mana just isn't an issue... you always have some available.

For the post up above a couple, take a look beyond the level 35ish shaman you've been partnered with. As someone else stated, the shaman class can be a bit tough and discouraging at the 25-34ish lvls; however, not long after that when you get your pets and your stronger disease and poison DoT's you'll find them to be impressive soloer, groupers, duo, whatever you need them to do.

Again as posted above, to my knowledge only two classes have been able to solo select dragons in Western Wastes. Shaman tend to solo a few of them quite often. And a rare few enchnaters also have managed to solo them. With the alt exp skills that came with luclin, I imagine an enchanter with dire charm would be able to solo them quite frequently now as well.

Bottom line though is the comparison is apples and oranges. Druids and shaman are both drastically different and each have their own strenghts and weeknesses. If all the classes were the same, the game would get quite boring in a hurry.

Oh, an average raid buffed shaman is over 3500hp and over 1000 AC. A well dressed shaman is over 4k hp and upwards of 1150 AC. So yes, we can take a bit of a beating.

Shamans were the first to solo the dragons in WW. Weak? I think not. I dont think there is a druid that has yet solo'd a dragon in WW.
