It amuses me how you view this character as just another means of obtaining dragon scales for your quests. Do you realize how he might have gotten those scales in the first place? He is a dragon-slayer hundreds of years old and his Rusted Throneblade should tell you something. He was the king reigning in the Temple of Veeshan before Vulak'Aerr led an insurrection against him, under the terms he was a traitor who was planning to awaken the Sleeper and pass on to it the throne of Norrath. Unable to fend of all the Elder Dragon youths of Veeshan, Nortlav fled to a place where he would be able to take refuge from the dragons yet find one to complete his destiny as he was becoming too old. I myself have done the impossible, the ultimate quest. After collecting every Talisman from every Elder Dragon of Veeshan, I came to this wanderer Nortlav. He told me his old Throneblade was no longer able to perform the tasks it once did, and in order to slay Vulak'Aerr by myself and find the true hidden passage within the Temple of Veeshan, I must kill him and turn in his sword and all the talismans to one he believed could give me the strength and the blade powerful enough to slay the great dragon lord. This is Venril Sathir he spoke of, once great ruler of the Iksar. I did as he told me, and Sathir himself cried as he used all his last powers to forge together the ultimate weapon. There on the floor, a former rusted throneblade, laid Atma. I clasped it in both hands, and felt a surge unlike any other magic I have seen. This was a weapon of old times, I could feel it, maybe before the time of Veeshan. I am here inscribing this down, at the entrance to the Temple of Veeshan, by myself. I have slain the Temple's Guardian Dragon with it, and the future of Norrath will be determined by what happens here in this unholy palace of the Ancients Ones.

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 22 2002 at 3:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There's a similar quest involving the secret correlation between Kerafyrm and Queen Klicknik. Basically you turn in fire beetle eyes to Kerafyrm before he flurries you and he despawns and repops as Princess Klack Klicknik, the eldest of Veeshan's chosen protectors. She's a lvl 1 and drops a Mrylokar's Antennae of Assholism, 29 20 SHM only 2hs with 90 int and +90% skill mod to begging, as well as a note that you turn in to Kane Bayle asking that he *** ram you back to lvl 1, you farking ******.

It's true. I completed a similar quest that involved freeing the injured halfling in Najena, returning proof of his captor's demise to Rebbo Leafsway, and displaying his letter of recommendation to Bristlebane. The reward was a halfling-only range slot item with effect: ultravision. Very useful item, considering how difficult it is to see with my head so far up my ***.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 10 2002 at 9:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I believe your story friend. I too, am an old blood of Norrath. Many years ago I was the right hand of Mayong Mistmoore himself, before his mysterious disappearance. Being one of the oldest creatures in this world, he told me of a prophecy not even he could decipher, one of great magnitude, yet very secret. It told of a Dragon King, his downfall, a rusted blade, the birth of a hero, the creation of a weapon far greater than any power he or the gods would ever have, and the change that would separate the Universe.

Hey peeps....need some input rather quickly here. Got a guy who is gonna sell me a "red dragon scales" for about 10k. Is this the same thing as "a red dragon scale" used in the warrior/bard epic? And if not--->What are "red dragon scales for"?

Last night my guild took down this individual rather easily. It was luckily for us that he was already near the drop down in part of the hole. Our guild was hunting there for xp all day, so I assume somehow he got pulled all the way up. There were only 21 or so of us and we were able to kill him. We not only did it, but we did it very easily. Here is what our strategy was and the people we had aboard:

MA 57 war
56 war
2 55+ rangers
2 60 enchanters
4 50+ clerics
1 60 mage
3 55+ SK's
1 60 Paladin
1 50+ monk
1 55+ shaman

I can tell you that he only dropped one red dragon scale and of course his sword.

Our strategy was as follows. We threw the first cleric(fully buffed and lowest level) in to take the firt several procs and die. He procs a 1500 damage that can be stopped runes. The MA was then sent in(with defensive on of course) to gain aggro. The clerics were setup in a CH rotation so that each CH would go off every three seconds. The enchanters were also set to chain runing the main tank. The main tank called all in and I can tell you we only had three deaths. The first person to take the several procs, the MA who died when the scalekeeper had reached 20% life, and the second warrior who was not prepared for the procs. Unfortunately we were not prepared with a back up plan had the MA gone down, but he was so far down.. that he was no match for us by that time. My rune went down and he proced three times really really fast and....I died. We won the day however and not too shabby with only three deaths.

This gentleman is not that hard to take down by a well rounded raid. He is not completely MR, but is indeed Highly MR. We've taken him down 4 times in my guild and I've tagged along on 3 other raids that took him.

You want to have 4 to 6 groups of 50+ with at least one 58-60 warrior, and 3 other warriors 55+. The key to taking this guy down is having a good warrior able to keep agro, 2 to 3 high level clerics chain CH'ing, and 2 to 3 people chain runing the MA as well. I'd suggest at least 6 to 10 melee out of the groups a good shaman or two and the rest a good mix. I prefer to take alot of wizards and mages, but it isn't strictly necessary if you have good people there.

Agro control is the biggest point as Nort will tend to walk right up and waste your clerics and enchtanters very quickly if you loose agro for long. The initial rush is important as well as he will usually get off 1 or 2 1500pt dd's immediately followed by 2 to 3 hits in the 300-400 range. It's a good idea to send in a sacrificial lamb to take the initial flurry followed by the MA, who takes him on alone for at least 10 seconds to build agro.

The rest is just beating him down.

Good hunting,
peace,

ahh, here's a thought, if he proc's 1500pt Life tap every 2 swings why don't you just root his *** & watch him rot? I know warriors really need this guy (& bards like me to some extent) but C-mon thats just common sense. I've never killed him so there may be some issues I'm not aware of. But 4 wizards, 4 clerics, 2 Bards runnning resist, & 2 tanks to act as blockers I'd assume this guy is toast.

I may be completely wrong, but it makes sense to me.

2 enchanters running MT.. this guy is easier then VS :)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 06 2002 at 3:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Unlike VS who virtually ignores the Enchanters Rune'ing the MA, this guy will beat down any enchanter that runes in the middle of the fight. To give you an idea of how sensative he is, once when we killed him I (60 Enchanter) sat there the entire fight not doing anything at all. When Nortlav was below 25% health, I stode up and Runed the MA 1 single time. He ignored the rest of the raid completely, ran straight to me, and killed me instantly with 2 1500 HP lifetaps.

2 main tanks lvl56+
2 clerics of appropriate level.
Rest of groups should be filled out with secondary melee and wiz/druids/mage for nukage.

MT goes in, after first tap, hits furious dis.
9 secs later, next tank goes in, attempts to get agro. Once he is hit and tapped once, again puts furious dis up.
Hopefully mob will be dead not long after second warrs dis runs out.
Important that the MT gain agro, you dont want Nort swinging on people without the dis, or Nort heals himself by tapping.

My guild tried to kill Nortlav last night. He spawns somewhere in the courtyard by the undead tower. He is not kos, he is indifferent to all. He is hard as hell to fight. Hits for 270 max, fast, and procs a 1500 damage lifetap on a single target every 2 - 4 swings. We could never get the MA to hold agro long enough to take him down (he kept jumping the clerics). However, in the little bit of time we were hitting him, he still lost a lot of health. I'd guess he has under 5000 hp. However, 1500 lifetap every 2 seconds makes it a teensy bit harder.

If he had under 5000 hp a wizzy with manaburn could solo him. He has more hp than that. Not lot but I'd guess in the 32000 range.

QUEST???
# Nov 09 2001 at 1:19 PM Rating: Default
I was told by a guide that there is a quest to receive a white scale, but the stupid guide would not say anymore...i asked around and a couple of people said they had heard something similar...

the two rumours were -
1) it might involve turning a white dragonscale cloak (50k on veeshan) back into a white dragon scale (100k on veeshan).
2) it begins in the hole.

now, i have read every site i could find, and no one has said anything about hailing mr nortlav. i am taking a halfling down there today if vox doesn't drop her scale (this'll be third time i've killed her) and hoping he's up to be hailed. if he isn't, i'll get a guild group to kill yael and then hold the camp till he pops, maybe faction song will be enough to give me the quest...

What would actually make sense to do, would be to attach the NO DROP sword he drops to a quest to acquire the green and white scales depending on your class since it is absolutely worthless otherwise.

That would probably make too much sense for "The Vision" though.

geen scale

This is about green dragon scale, it does not matter what its used for beside the epic, no one would ever use it for anything but the war epic, , the best way to get one is to kill hoshkar in Veshens peek he drops it like everytime and is on like a 12 or 24 hour spawn time no more then that, and spawns in the same spot evertime unlike the dragon in EJ which is random spawn in the zone and has like a 1 week spawn time, so if you want one just go to VP and kill hoshkar, If anyone reads this and is in an uber guild that has some extra scales on tarew marr i am looking to trade for a green dragon scale , like good stuff not **** trades, send me a tell, name is zortang
RE: geen scale

GL killing hoshkar for scales. we defeated him two times, and lost about seven times with 30-35 60's in vp. its all dependant on chance and your heal coordination. hope you have 400 dr or your going to take about 8 ae slows for 1200 each before its dead or you wipe. ahh it gates too. nice to finally get it to 5% and have it gate and summon your raid to die all over vp. spawn timer is 7 days and hasnt dropped scales yet. one more thing:
Guardian Wurm claws YOU for 1550 points of damage.

AoE or Targetted LT?
# Oct 10 2001 at 1:19 PM Rating: Decent
I've read conflicting reports on his Lifetap. Some say it is AoE every 10 to 15 seconds and some say its a targetted 1500 point proc every other swing or so.

Can anyone confirm which it is? Or is it one or the other depending on his level?

If the LT is AoE, is it 360 or arced the direction he is facing?

Also heard he has spawned as 51st.

I ran a series of raids for peoples epics that was well over 3 months. We killed him every time. Toss in the respawns that came with patches, thats over 2 dozen times. Every single time we killed him he dropped a Rusted Thornblade & a Red Scale

The rumor that he dropped the green scale started because Verant put "rumor has it there is a new source for the green scale" in one of their patch messages. They didn't say where. I heard stories popping up all over that it was from Nortlav then I heard some that it was off a seahorse in Kedge. Eventually, people found out it was from Veeshan's Peek, however that didn't stop the rumor that was already spreading like a wildfire for going on.

Now, I will say that it would make logical sense that this guy was a source for more scales then just the red. However, I have also never heard of anyone actually doing a quest to get any other colored scale from him. I've heard people yip yap, but never anyone that actually did it. Maybe it exists. As far as I know, it doesn't, and that comes from a fairly long experience in this.

The red dragon scale is used in the BARD EPIC, WARRIOR EPIC, and to make the RED DRAGONSCALE BREASTPLATE. Talendor, Nagafen, Nortlav.

The white dragon scale is used for the BARD EPIC, and to make the WHITE DRAGONSCALE CLOAK. Comes from Vox, and Gorenaire, possibly Nortlav.

The green dragon scale is used for the WARRIOR EPIC. It drops off Severilous in Emerald Jungle. It is also reported to drop of Nortlav, and possibly Hoshkar in Veeshan's Peak, though I doubt it comes from Hoshkar.

The EMERALD dragon scale is used for the EMERALD DRAGONSCALE TUNIC. The EMERALD dragon scale drops off Wuoshi in Wakening Lands. Wuoshi spawns at the port in and is on CoV (Claws of Veeshan) faction.
