Soloed by The Holiest of Paladins
# Feb 14 2005 at 1:25 AM Rating: Decent
I, Sanctimonius Pontificus Pompous Pious XVIII, Holiest of Paladins, have this day soloed a Servant Swordfish which dropped the tooth.
At lvl 61 I entered SG through CS, pacified the bulthar, pacified the seahorses and swam to the right where the swordfish likes to swim around. I waited in a spot underwater far enough to avoid seahorse aggro.
I was self-buffed only (!) and chain cast Holy Might and Force throughout the fight, pausing once to cast Celestial Cleansing on myself.
Yes I had to LoH. I also had to use 9 out of 10 charges of Stinging Wort, but the fight ended with me at 40% health, the evil fish dead, and me gating to Thurgadin to attempt my 7th Shawl!

The swordfish tooth NO DROP also drops off the regular swordfish it seemed to be common when we killed 4 swordfish and had 2 teeth drop.

Well, finally got tradeskills up on my 59 necro, and have been hitting SG to get a tooth and a hide (bought the shell).

On the WW side, in the water, I only saw two spawns. Approx +50, +25, and +50, -25. Although when I first came across the area, one of them was gone, and one was stuck above the ground. So an easy kill, but no tooth. I was able to agro kite the mobs in the little tunnel that leads from the WW zone to the area where the fish are. That way I could get at the fish with no problems.

The fish are immune to changes in run speed, so no snares will land.

Can't fear kite these as they just run down the hole in the well now and agro others. Which started a chain reaction which caused me a horrible death. So I gathered a few friends and we went and kicked some fishie butt. (me-59 necro, 56 necro, 54 magician, 47 wizard, 60 cleric). The mobs weren't a problem, and we'd occasionally pull two at once. Us necros were mezzing the adds well, but still getting a large number of resists. Although I don't think one of my dots was ever resisted. The nukers said they were getting their fair share of resists.

We killed 4 cycles of fishies (on the first pull, the second agroed in, so you may be hard pressed to pull it alone without an ag radius reducing spell), and only one tooth dropped. So our average for the night was 1 in 8.

And the bottom of the pool is no longer safe. One of the wanderers in the area, starts in the southeast corner of the area, moves north, hugging the water edge, gets to the rock in the southwest, goes back north a bit, and then enters the water, and swims south back to his start point. If you're directly in the middle of the pool at the bottom, or even slightly off to the side, he will agro. But if you were able to kill him, and stayed in the water, it would just be him and the fish.

And in closing, may I just say, whoever dreamt up the loot tables for this zone ought to be drawn and quartered. We were looting crap like silver and gold earrings, jaspers and star rose quartzes. I really have to shake my head at that. Although there was the occasional armor quest gem drop. In two hours, we got 2 netted items, a molkor hide, one tooth, and 3 or 4 gems.

anyway, hope this information helps some of you out there.

Well, went back last night, after the server reset, and I guess some of my info is wrong. There is a single spawn back in the large pool. And it looks like he wanders a bit from the very south side of the pool, to partly into the little inlet portion. And the wandering mob that was swimming through the water, no longer does that. Somehow the spawns must have been moved/trained to somewhere else and never wandered back.

But I was lucky enough to get the tooth on the first kill. And then I went and finished my 7th shawl with no failures.

/agree with below. 58+ druid can solo this, mebbe lower if you're confident. Two druids or druid and cleric and it'd be cake.

Druid spells to mem:

Quick heal
Terrorize animal
Fire debuff
Fire nuke
Bet dot (Winged Death or whatever)
Improved S. Camo, or camo
Glamour of Tunare
Evac

In SG, evac to the WW side. Camo, and follow the tunnel in and bear right when it branches. When you reach an open area, hug the right wall and jump into the pond.

Swim down and to the middle of the pond, to neg 140 neg 15. It's safe to stand on the bottom of the pond to fight. It's safe from adds down there, you just need EB item.

Buff yourself up all the way with your best DS, skin, and thorncoat spell. Might as well let him get hurt since he is going to get some shots on you.

Swordfish sees thru Camo, so he will attack.

Only one fish spawns in that pool, he'll attack when you jump in. I didnt bother trying to snare, I read they are unsnareable. Just cast terrorize animal on him, then Glamour, then dot, arms/epic dot, fire debuff, then start nuking fire.

Some fears will last 5 sec, some a minute. He hits for up to 150 or so but at 61 he whiffed on me a lot.

Fight took 60% of my mana if I nuked a lot, but you could fear/dot and use less. Can be done with Potc and no KEI but I'd get KEI anyway, hehe.

Keep yourself healed up if he hits you much between fears, you'll have plenty of mana, no worries there.

Good luck!

Axaroth
61 Heirophant
Saryrn
24 minute spawn, give or take a few.

61 Druid, and I tried the method listed.

Every time my fear spell lasted long enough to heal myself, it got so far away that it regenerated completely before it even came back. And it always brought friends.

So this method has not worked for even one kill.

I dunno what I am doing wrong. I would guess nothing. Maybe Sony read this post and fixed it so it wouldn't be soloable by a druid.

I've tried this, and every time I fear the swordfish he runs out of casting range. Doesn't give me any time to cast WD, and when fear runs out he always seems to get stuck and never returns unless I go looking for him. He also paths down a channel with two other fish, so I can't go looking for him without aggroing them. :\

ok, here is my experience taking him only by nuking.

13400 HP (hard on mana)

Resist ocasionaly Fire spell, but never totaly.

Resist occasionaly Magic DD after being tashed, but not totaly.

Can not be rooted.
Not sure for snare.

around 24 min respawn time.

Taking the single 1 in pool was a good strategy for me.

Droped the tooth on second kill.
Almost gottem

We came here today to collect some shalw pieces of mine. Luckily enough some nice United Legion people gave me my Runed Sea Shell (1 charge EB). The Molkar hide was easy enough... we got 2 in 5 kills... the Molkar themselves are clerics so have stuns up and ready! As for the swordfish, we had a hell of a time trying to get him. For some reason we thought the only one available was the one that bounces up and down on the waterfall...3 or 4 falls and a couple CoH's later we finally pulled him. Only problem was an Ulthork agroed along with em :/ (aka not a good thing). Well we died to sacrifice the cleric making it to the zoneline and got our rezzes. By this time we were really frusterated and the group mage was getting pissed at the fish. He sicked his pet and the cleric and i (52 shaman) kept the pet healed up... but sure enough another ulthork wandered over to kick my booty. I attempted to keep it off long enough to kill the fish, but i died and soon after so did the mage earthpet due to excessive agro. The mage and cleric barley made it out. Well everybody gated home and got their TL's and i sat around for a bit just to check out the zone and low and behold i saw a lone swordfish waiting to be killed...i wasnt going to try to solo him, but i know where to killem in the future now! Was lotsa fun trying though although i lost a half a blue xp from rezzes. Hope you all have better luck and try the one in the little fiord that points out to the tunnle to WW zone.

Soloable by 58 druid (probably lower) in the pool near WW zone with only the one swordfish in it

Glamour of tunare (lower MR)
Fear Animal
Wing death 4 or 5 times
ES

Repeat

Gets a bit hairy if it resists several fears in a row as it hits for 150's and stuns regularly (5 in a row on me once)

Safe to jump out of pool if fight is going badly (usually :)

Cannot be snared or rooted
wizzie with epic can solo this.

Just killed one with an all caster group like 2 seconds ago. we killed one of the wandering mobs on land, but we had no tanks for in water. the wizzy in our group has epic, so he clicked is 800dmg runeshield, then jumped in water and blasted and jumped out to rerune. repeated till dead. nice and easy.

Based on my experiences getting a swordfish tooth for my shawl quest, here is how I suggest you approach it. I did it this way with a 60 wizard, 56 paladin, and myself, 54 shaman:

From the WW zone buff, med up, and invis and follow the tunnel, taking the right branch when it forks. When you reach the open area, follow the right wall to the edge of the pool. Huddle in the little niche where the wall meets the water. This is reported to be a safe area as long as you're back in the corner all the way, and that seemed to be true while we were there. I am told that the pool there will either have one or two swordfish. There was only one there when we went. We hopped in and the wizard swam to the middle of the pool to pull. The paladin and I stayed back in the water against the wall right below the niche. It is still important when underwater to stay back in that corner to avoid agroing the wanderers on the main open land and the two static mobs over on the far bit of land. We eventually backed up to the underwater shelf right under the little waterfall just to make it easier to stay on target, but you'll want to be very careful to stay to the near side of it.

It was a tough fight. The swordfish resisted my first few attempts at slowing and rooting, and after that I was too busy healing the pally. We lived but two of us were at low health and both I and the wizzie were oom. Happily, that one fish dropped the tooth and we ported out.

This spot really isn't far from the zone, so if you have a fresh sow when you enter the zone and make sure you know the way back out, you could probably make a run for it if things get ugly. Remember to check that there is only one fish before you start the fight, unless you have enough firepower to handle two. They're a lot nastier than they look.

These bad boys drop a tooth needed for the coldain prayer shawl number 7. Is a no drop item. Talked to a mini raid or 2 groups who went through SG. Said these guys were mean very mean. Con blue to 53 while seahorses are even. They said the swordfish were harder than seahorses.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 27 2001 at 1:33 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) try and find out, but i thought druids love and care for all animals. where is your love and care?

Nope, only cute furry ones that grin inanely at them as they amble by (wolves and bears basically). Everything other animal hates Druids as much as anything else.
