a tundra mammoth  

the tusk quest in neriak is for just plain mammoth tusks i believe..don't think the tundra mammoth tusk will work, though haven't tried.

so i have this tusk and tail off these things...no idea what to do with it..hmm...

Fought one of these tonight with 35 troll SK - they hit extremely hard and have alot of hitpoints - definately an undercon. I had to go full bore on the thing chain casting every offensive spell I had and even ended up having to HT it - that was at FM and HP - I could do 5 Everfrost mamoths in a row with that back at 29th level.

Merchants still not buying tusks, no sign of any quests - went through Thurg and quite literally hailed every dwarf there.

What is tail for. Quest item?

I would wager that these bad boys have more than 2500 hitpoints... fought one today by root-dotting and this is what I used (I wasn't able to kill it either, had to zone as darkness and root broke at the same time and i was oom):

Dooming Darkness x2 (300dmg x2)
Vampiric Curse x2 (200dmg x2)
Chilling Embrace (600dmg)
Venom of the Snake (450dmg)
Boil Blood (504dmg)

Adds up to 2504 and he still had about 1/5 to 1/6 of his health left. One tough cookie, I won't be fighting these guys again for a while.

I fought many of these last night 5-11-01. I am lvl 33 and they con from blue to red. So they may well goto lvl 38 but the minimum lvl is more like 31 or 32. Panic or Terrorize animal works so they are animals not monsters. I did not try to solo but a group of three (lvl 30 cleric, 34 mage, 33 druid thats me) took down yellow cons very easily and on several ocassions we took some reds too. The yellow con and lower rarely resisted my DOT's, ensnare, or terrorize. I have no clue what to do with the tusks or tails they drop. Merchants will not buy either.

Edited!!!! OOOPS, I was killing woolies not tundra that were blue. My fault. I did fight tundras too but they were red and had better resists. I was correct though about the animal part.

The tusks I remember the merchants REFUSED to buy (i.e., quest item only?!). The tail I don't remember, but they useded the same graphic for its icon as lizard tails (green).

Darn shame they don't drop anything *sellable*!
