Well I have duoed KT. If I can get him solo anyways. His low hit on me is 92 and Max hit was 545.

Most of the old school mobs really arnt as hard as they used to be. I remember killing them with raids of 70+. Hell we killed AoW the other day with 5 people. My first raid on him was with 80 peeps.

Guess things just change.

um....What Kalysta said. Plus even today as long as it's not an instanced zone with a raid limit, you can have as many people as you want on a single mob, just the 72 in the raid will get exp (kinda like the old KS group except now a KS raid). That means 200 people could go kill KT now if they wanted to...

There was no raid tool back then.
Raids were as many as you wanted.
Only one group, called the KS group, would get the exp. Anyone else had to wait until the corpse allowed loot rights.

Not really about the hp.
It's all about the ac.
A 15k tank will still die faster than a 13k if his ac is paper.

Bah, Kalysta, AC is broken. My best friend is a 75 War with over 19k raid buffed and he tells everyone its all about HPs HPs HPs.... He is one of the lowest AC Wars on the sever and tanks better than any I have seen, he is MT of all the raids and takes hits better than tanks that go after AC. He said after 2k AC it does nothing.

for one, the "over 2k does nothing" is a bad rumor, started by a misquote that no one has corrected, but some warriors spread it around to make themselves feel better for going after hp. Currently, a lot think it's 3k now.

The softcap is 1300 . Anything up to 1300 gives 100% returns.
Anything over, gives 66%ish returns. Shield ac ignores it. So if you have a 130ac shield, your softcap is now 1430 , with anything above that giving 66%.

AC is always scaling. More ac, less damage spikes, the easier you are to heal.
The part that warriors are confusing in all this is defensive vs ac.
A mob's attk hasnt been scaled properly since GoD/OoWish. So at the moment, each minor ac increase is doing more than it should.
Defensive saves xx percent of incomming damage. Great when ac only hit 1200ish during velious, it allowed them to out tank anyone. Then again in GoD when the mob's attacks made another huge jump.
Now however, once you pass a certain amount of ac, defensive isn't as good. It is an outdated disc.

Out of all that, some warrior misquotes and says "anything over xxx ac is useless" , and other sheep follow it so they can make their magelos look uber with high hp while sacrificing their tanking.
Now, if they stop getting ac at 2k, but their content gets harder and harder, of course they aren't going to notice swapping in one 10ac aug, when they should already be a few hundred ahead.

We have 25khp warriors in our guild. But with only 3300-3500 ac (because they think hp is what matters) , defensive drops, and they go splat.
The 19k/4300ac sk can tank easier than them, and the healers notice.

People have tested both ways too. Kelefane I think it was, an sk spent about 15k swapping augs around. Dropped all ac augs for about 2k more in hp. All the healers were asking if he forgot to put on some gear because he was suddenly harder to keep healed. Swapped back, and all was right in the world.
When you are dealing with 5k+ hitters, 2k in hp augs is nothing compared to what the ac can save you.

You only need enough hp to survive being one-rounded by the content you are tanking. The rest can be ac. Which then lowers the hp you need, which allows more for ac, and so on, and so on, and so forth...

your "warrior friend" is pretty clueless if he thinks ac doesnt help.
He should talk to Bedaviir, probably one of the best warriors posting on the warrior board (steel warrior)

Damage prevented is always better than damage healed.

know this is a semi old post, know kelefane who plays on BB(sol ro) server. when it comes down to it, ac<hp on warriors. when you have a mod that hits for 10k with defensive on, ac wont save you. the sk's go splat regardless if they got 5k ac or not. it only makes a noticble difference on groups where the 3k hits are normally around 1k level

excellent post, even as a 65 ranger i notice the difference when i started to switch to more AC then HP. Yeah those hp are nice when you are trying to brag but when it comes down to that mob owning your butt or you owning it u see the difference.

Hi all

Did KT today with a few people here the information the parser picked up.

DPS : 570
Max: 550
Avg: 250
Min: 160

We did about 300k in melee damage but spells didnt get caught by the parse so i am guessing he has between 400 to 500 k hp.

The tank was a 70 war with 5% shielding if i remember correctly

Fun fight. Just make sure you get him single and it should be no problem.

Oh yeah, he rampaged so watch out.

hmm, 2 beastlords and a cleric. Sounds like a "Trio" to me. as opposed to "Solo" which would mean just one toon. It makes me laugh when someone claims to have solo'd a mob. "Yeah, i solo'd KT, had a monk pull him for me, had an enc mez the adds, and slow. and a dru for back up heals." People, thats NOT considered solo.

is it at all possible to solo this guy as a lvl 70 beastie, and an extremely well equiped on at that?
i have seen other beastlords solo all the way through some of the planes and was just wondering if the same could be done here to this guy, although i do see that he has guards which makes soloing diffacult...
RE: soloing a god
# Nov 20 2004 at 4:19 PM Rating: Default
I'll make this simple, no. He hits for more then you can heal. Your healing wont even be able to keep up with the rampage alone nm the full damage he's doing. You'll never land slow without malos/tash. He summons faster then other mobs, you wont get 2 feet out before getting summoned back. Rgjmidgets was being nice when he said 97%.
RE: soloing a god
# Nov 07 2004 at 8:03 AM Rating: Default
If you can heal yourself / pet while killing him for around 30min or more, then you can probably kill him.
RE: soloing a god
# Oct 11 2004 at 5:15 PM Rating: Default
1) he's not a god.
2) you can't get him single as a solo beastlord.
3) you won't get him below 97% hp.

Two questions on turning in the Dain's head for the belt:

I am Ally to Tormax but KOS to the other giant factions in Kael. Is there any way to do the turn in solo or do I have to attend a raid? (eg: are the giants in the throne room all tormax faction, or if not, do they see invis?)

Also, How close do you have to be to track Tormax? Can a ranger with like 190 tracking see him outside of the see-invis giants guarding his area by the bank?

You probably could if your healers can last through the fight without going oom. This is a longer fight, although I found it easier to keep the MT alive with a CH rotation. We did him with roughly the levels and numbers you are stating, but we had 5 clerics, of which 3 were 65 with very good mana pools and regen, uber bard mana regen and c5.

How were you able to split his guards? Aren't they linked to him? Where did you fight him at?

Does anyone know a way to pull him without his guards, or a way to kill his guards first without a FD'er? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sashai

P.S. We are a small guild of about 12 level 65's that would like to try him. We can take vindi down easily.

I haven't tried this with KT - but in similar situations, you can snare a guard and use CoTH - then when non-snared mobs go back to spawn point, tag the snared mob and reel it in. We almost always have FDers - and with linked mobs we use snares to split the guards off (sk or necro snares, fd, and then monk can tag and bring to raid).

I finally got a chance to pull him last night. Just clear from zoneline to his chambers, tag him and run like mad for the zoneline (stop and check every so often that he's still following you) and most times you'll find he's the first one there and can be tagged single. A very easy pull compared to Vindi. After that, a good CH rotation and RT and he's finished - after you beat down his significant hp's.

if the guards can be snared, just have 2 snarers run up, snare both the guards, tormax will come running as well, brun tormax to WW zone, snare team zones, rest kill tormax. snare team can zone back of course as well )

If you're feeling brave, once you've cleared his room, just FD pong him and his guards a bit. Watch their behavior - in time you'll be able to get enough separation to bring him out to a tagger on the ice bridge. Tagger can aggro him without his guards following. We routinely kill him at the arch just north of the ice bridge.

He's faster than his guards - that'll give you an idea to work with, as well.

# Apr 30 2003 at 10:10 AM Rating: Excellent
The spawn is seven days on KT still. However, as I happily found out last night, he spawns on server repops, zone repops and patches. Yesterday he actually spawned three times on Tallon Zek. Once for a patch and twice for zone repops.

On the third time I was lucky enough to be standing right at his spot to see him pop. It was kind of weird though, because when I first looked at his throne where he spawns, there was actually another NPC standing there. I can't recall the NPC's name, but I had never seen it before and it's not one of the normal NPC's that hang out around KT's throne.

After about a minute of sitting there, I then saw King Tormax pop right before my eyes and the other NPC was nowehre to be found. It was kind of creepy. =)

Anyways, I then gladly hailed KT and handed him Dain's Head to receive my Belt of Dwarf Slaying.

My guild then took him down swiftly and gobbled up some pretty nice loot.
