Was killing these today on the 7th floor, there are two that spawn there, and have gotten two "Globe of Fear" so far. Was not expecting these, as they supposedly are only to drop from the Icy Shades on level 6. However, I didn't see any drops from the 6th floor in the 10 times I cleared it.

I like to think of these guys as "junior spectres", not just because of their look but also because they have a similar (but less potent) spell they use during their melee attacks.

As a 36th season paladin, these things were laughably easy. Using the Ghoulbane, Instrument of Nife, and fear undead, these hardly do any damage at all. There is a pair of these on the bottom floor; they are the first mobs you'll see when you enter the Tower. What works well is to pull one of them and then back up towards the entrance mirror. They have a pathing issue which causes them to get farther away before getting closer. If you back up far enough, you'll probably only get one of them since you back out of their range. Now while in the entrance corridor, cast fear undead on him and he floats right past you and keeps trying to walk into the mirror. Now you've got an easy shot at his back while he's running in place against the mirror. After a couple of Nife and Ghoulbane procs and maybe one more fear, this guy flops to the ground like a popped party balloon.

Drops have included various scythes from rusty to bronze to even the regular scythe (sold for 12pp to a merchant). In addition the Globe of Fear dropped twice out of about 8 to 10 kills, but it's a lore item so I only kept one. I even got a nice jewel once which was worth about a dozen platinum (opal I think). The coin is decent and varies from a few gold to a few platinum. All in all, these "juniors" leave pretty good loot.

To expound on this, I have been fighting these shades for a while, and the best way to do it is to fight in the room where you first come in.

First, go into the second room (just short of the shades) and Enstill one, and let the other come to you. When the shade gets to you, back up and kill the first one. When you are in the middle of the second room, or in the first room, the shade you cast enstill on will not come for you EVEN IF enstill breaks (NOTE: The aggro is still there, so don't expect IVU to work if you want to get by him).

Kill the first one, med back to full, then head back to the pit room, where the second shade will automatically come after you.

Only problem with this is the slow pop time, but there is another skele that is all alone that you can solo if you want to fill some down time (first passage way on your left, all the way down towards the end of the hall... be careful, the aggro range rarely pulls another room).

What do Globes of Fear do ?

Globes of Fear are for acquiring words from the 3 DE's in Neriak. You give them various items and they give you specific words. See the Neriak zone quests for it
Solo Pull

It's easy for any necro level 34 or higher to solo pull these, charm one, attack the other. IF charm is resisted (which ain't very often), FD, they will come sniff at you then return to bind point seperately, so at that point it becomes an FD pull. Works like a charm (pun intended)

30 cleric on Vazaelle here and the levels are off just a tad.

At 29 they conned black or yellow to me, now they con high blue to black...

So guess the range is 29-30

Not that it makes much differance. Any group can handle them fairly easily if they know there stuff...

And Soloing ToFS is just plain stupid. Mages and Necro's take note, LOTS of stuff, even on the first floor, pops and adds real quick, and they all hit HARD. Big aggro ranges. Duoing with a tank class is almost a must. The most effective combo's otherwise i've seen are Druid/Mage or Shaman/Necro's.
Solo Pull?

I noticed a Necro pulling these individually, but even after I Pacified one sometimes I would still get both. Not only this, but they would pull up the skeletons in the pit!

Can someone share the secret of how to single-pull these things?

I have pulled them solo by Screaming Terroring the weaker one and having the tougher one follow. Also you can charm one and send in to attack the other, FD, then repeated.

The Secret? It was probably a very high level necro that was not aggroing the other creatures because of his level.

I am a 35 Shadow Knight and I can solo pull them...I usually cast darkness on one and then back up waiting for the one that hadnt been dotted to come to me. Afterwards I rest up a lil and move into aggro range of the other and it comes. I was able to not aggro the skels unless I had a pet.

Last night got a black pearl off one of the specs... been soloing them for quite a while, and first time it's shown up. Also got other things like pearl ring (no stats) and a LOT of words. In short, other than the words, most of the stuff is simply to be sold.

Appear to be on the spectre loot table, dropping scythes (not those cool-looking axes) and globes of fright.

lol, loot the sythe off the spec, and the image of the cool sythe is still on it. These specs are trying to fake us out with their rusty sythe they give you.

I looted a regular Sythe (not rusty) and a Globe of Fear.
