What a Bugger
# Mar 16 2004 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
Was in the area so I thought I would beat on some FG's. I found this guy standing gaurd just out side the fort. After a snare/DoT, I feared him and followed behind slapping him for 50 - 90 with my Noc. Blade. After about 5 or 6 resnares and fears, and ALOT of time, mana, and 260DD's, he died. Other posts are true... at least 7k HP. Loot was the Woven Frost Giant Beard, and a Velinum Short Sword. I have 100% going into AA till I get my 3 for run speed, and I got 1% of my next AA from him, not good for the life he took from me... left me sitting writing this w/ 4% life left =P (52 Shadownight, named Monteray on Bristlebane)
hard for a bard
# Feb 08 2004 at 11:09 AM Rating: Decent
this dude is hella hard with a bard, cuz when ever i attack him, he always ends up bringing his 3 other friends, and it takes so ******* long to finish soloing him with his 7-10k hp, at under lvl 41 (which i managed 1 time out of 5 trys) i was doing 88 damage a tick, so thats like 100 ticks to kill him, ten minutes!!! but if your 42 and have your new chant he takes about 6-8 min. but he did give me some nice exp.
Not too bad... with dwarven assistance.
# Jan 07 2003 at 11:43 AM Rating: Decent
I just finished soloing him, I am a 44 Wizard. He resisted my first BOF, but a second one slowed him down nicely. With 188 Intelligence, it took about my entire bar to conflagration him down to slightly below half, so I'd say a 7k estimate for his health is correct. Then I just rooted him at the coldain camp to the north. They managed to almost kill him before I threw in the killing blow. 10 gp, 1 cp for loot.

Easy kill
# Sep 12 2002 at 7:38 PM Rating: Default
Like any giant in this zone an easy kill if you have a horse.

Aggro him and ride to the nearest coldain camp. Then ride outta range and wait till he kills those coldain he will get damage from them ride to the next coldain camp and repeat. After he kills those ones circle him around a bit and head back to the first coldain camp rinse and repeat until he is so beaten anoob could kill him.

if you take a single frost giant into these camps the coldain end up finishing the job. sometimes they can handle 2 depending on what coldain are up at the time.
For wizzies just before you get to the first coldain camp hit him with BOF then nuke away till your hearts content. With you nuking he does not attack the coldain problem with this is that if one of them strikes the killing blow or they have accumalated more damage then you then you don't get any xp or loot.

If you don't move out of aggro range of him after the coldain jump in he will quickly outrun them and get out of their aggro range.

If you get into trouble with adds just head over to the coldain misionairy camp near the dragon statue this group will kill him and his pals with no trouble. i agroed 9 giants on that camp hoping the giants would kill the missionairies and be in rough shape so i could then get some easy xp no luck the camp killed them all in dbl quick time.

Don't pay much attitoen to the posts here but any way any one know how much HP < exactly or estimated> he has ? being a 60 war he didnt bother me much < first time exploring in EW seeing how my comp is a PoS> but did have to snare him once so i could have time to switch weps and put on fungi tunic.. took him down fairly easy.. was swinging a axe of warmaster + blade of stradgey.. dont think it matters much tho.. 41% haste 21 hp regen < Axe : 12/20 15str+ 10 dex + 10 sta + 10 cha + 10 wis + 10 int + 100 hp 100 mana 10 svm + + +>

Others have said 10k... I'd say that sounds about right... just took him out with my 39 bard, he wasted about 6-7 giants and two savage dire wolves before he dropped.

Ya took him with 39 chanter/druid (and charmed manticore) Tons of HP, easy snare and fear after tash, even though was red to us.

Had Hit Points around 6,700 to 7,000. Took him out tonight with 3 each Winged Death and Breath of Ro with 2 roots for 184. Still had 60M left with C3.

Only dropped words and beard.

I would say 7000-7200 (8 dirfting death & immolates + 4 engulfing roots). If U R after exp just pull him to side of fort & root -- his resistance is low he's unlikely to break it & quad savages they give about blue bub of exp per quad up to 50. at 51 start to go light blue & significant drop in amount of exp they give.

This guy isn't very tough, we took it down in under a min (51 ranger and 50 shaman). No problems at all.

Yeah, this guy has about 10k hp's like some others have said on this thread. I'm a 52 monk with a Jade Mace and 21% haste and 202 base str. My wife is a 52 cleric. Our strategy was to pull him out, then I would fight him till I got down to about 3 bubs of health and feign, then she would celestial me, rinse and repeat. Doing about 1200 damage per minute we took him out in like 8 to 9 minutes but as everyone has said killing him is more of a clout thing and less of a exp or loot ploy.

As I look at the druid dot for level 44 I see it is 200 mana for 650 damage over time. That means casting it on him about 15 times to kill him... so about 3000 mana. After specialization (good if you are spec'd in conj. not so good if you are more likely spec'd in something else) you may be able to do it with all the meditation in between casting but again it would be more for the prestige of taking him down and less for the loot or exp.

But the prestige is kind of cool, I remember a few people on Xev that were impressed when we said we took him down just the 2 of us at level 52.
Mean one

First of all, I have a level 50 druid and don't mess with the captain. I've killed him twice, but it takes about 20 minutes and the exp/loot isn't all that great (except for the tunic). However, I've hunted enough giants that I can share some solid info about him and the savages (which are much easier to kill and give about the same experience and loot). The captain triple hits pretty hard and can wipe you out in a hurry if you're not careful. I had one rooted/dotted and about one bubble from being dead one time when I went LD. When I came back, I was the one doing the corpse run.

This guy comes out of the fort from time to time and stands between the two frost giant savages generally found at the front gate. If you see three giants standing there, you'll get the captain (who's in the middle) if you pull either one. Go kill something else. Get a rhino, manticore, orc, snow griff, whatever. Doesn't matter. After your kill, med up, go back to the giant fort, and you'll note that there are probably only two giants there now. The captain has gone back inside. You can safely pull one savage without the other one following you now. After your kill, you'll note that the captain has probably come back out. Pull something else again. When he goes back inside, take the other savage.

Hope this helps!

Bah. A 50-51 beastlord with Kei can solo the captain and a savage. All you need to do is pull them toward the right side with Sha's. Hit one with Flash of Light and have pet take on the other. When Flash of Light runs out and you see the giant running back to you, cast it on him again before he gets too close. Rince and repeat. In between this heal pet or nuke the giant he is on. Don't let the blinded giant get in range of the pet, he will attack it too. I'd say stand to where the giant won't reach the 2 fighting.

The first time I did it I was soloing 2 at once and it's a little tougher with chain pet heals till I got to 2 bubbles of mana and the captain had died. Finished the savage and had 1 bubble of mana left.

Drag him to Coldains
# Jan 10 2002 at 1:41 AM Rating: Default
if you'r lvl 40-45 drood or below that lvl, the easiest way to kill him is to drag him near coldain hut, but make sure u are invi when u bring him there because Nasty Coldain Guards are nearby. when he reach the coldains he will be attacked but he will eventually finish them off. Atleast after that his health would be atleast in 3/4 u save mana so u just ensnare, ROOT DOT (best use Ensnaring Roots lvl 24 root spell, I am still using this at lvl 53) u can DD him whatever.. am sure you will own him in 10-25 mins hehe. have fun

Lots and lots of HP
# Dec 22 2001 at 7:07 AM Rating: Default
He's a triggered spawn... kill the two savages standing in front of the fort and the captain will appear. I soloed him with my 50 druid. He didn't resist (except a few partials on DD spells), but it took forever. Mostly root/dotted him to keep from going OOM too quickly. Level 49 root lasts longer and isn't resisted as much, so that was a big help.

Dropped the tunic and a few gold, I think. Nice item for large races :)
Soloed him at 47

Level 47 druid with 200wis. I used a ensnare drifting death ensnaring root med technique. Had to recast ensnare once before I killed him. He dropped Nilitim's Grimoire Pg. 116 and some plat.

Snared it from between 2 blue savages (did not agro and didn't use harmony). It took 8 Drifting Deaths, and resisted Engorging Roots 4 times. Hit for 130s when I let it get too close. Snare did drop due to the time that it took. Loot consisted of platinum, frost giant beard and a Kronie head.
Is it supposed to look like banded?
# May 02 2001 at 7:55 PM Rating: Decent
I just got this vest and was disappointed that it looked like banded (BORING) I dont have Velious installed yet, will it change when I install SoV?
RE: Is it supposed to look like banded?

Most likely. As Ry'gorr before velious graphics looks like chain aswell, and same with Ulthork/tizmak(well... they look like plain leather) Almost all velious armors graphic change when the velious graphics are enabled using the "LOADARMOR"'s in the eqclient file.

lvl 49 druid with no blue giant spawns around, spys this guy sitting in the fort all blue and looking bad. Snare, run, dot, dd, repeat till oom and the guy is still at least half life..needless to say kited the guy all over ew, had to snare him 3 times! (resisted engulfing roots all but the first time) And thanks to a lil ranger girl at the end of it all (got a heal and she wailed away on him when he finally stopped)...he was down! Went back and counted the approx dmg done to him...over 9+k ! Yeah got the vest, giving it to my hubbys shaman. Just a lil warning to soloing druids out there...you can take him down but be ready for a serious marathon kite :)

Invised and snuck into the giant fort. Targeted the captain and while still invised went outide the wall closest and sung a chant on him. Pulled hima nd 1 or 2 of his mates. found a rhino to charm onto him and eventualy pulled him down. Got the vest first shot.
Did the same technique with a named mob Fjlorean Icebane or something like that. Funny thing that happened with another giant (one of the guards to the big bridge) that when they were low on health (10-20%) they poped back to their spawn spot. I didnt see them gate (ie look like they casted) they just popped. Is this a bug or some kind of Insta-gate? I still had them on target so by the time i returned to the fort i could chant from outside the wall. But by that time he had told all his mates about me and i had about 5-6 giants on my tail hehe. Eventualy brought him down he had nothing on him :(. Kept checking the place for another half hour to an hour or so i guess and he didnt re-spawn. ne1 know what he is for? quest / item etc. cheap a$$ only had like 8hg 7s on him too ;P gona try him again now.
